Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov addresses the Commission of the General Council of the United Russia Party on international Cooperation and Support for Compatriots Abroad on Russia's upcoming Chairmanship of the BRICS+ Association, and the addition of new members: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates, and Egypt (Argentina has delayed or postponed membership under the new Milei government).
Additionally, Lavrov speaks on Russia's role in 2024 in continuing its foreign policy supporting multipolarism and multilateralism.

That statement was full of very general aims and aspirations, with the announcement of almost no detail or concrete measures. Kazan, October 2024 for more of the same, I suppose.

There are extractive and anti-sovereign policies and decisions by BRICS members, though. It’s disingenuous to portray this as solely a “western hegemonic” phenomenon between stronger and weaker states. I do respect the goals and ideals that Lavrov outlines but I think there is concrete work to be done which redresses serious imbalances. Hopefully states like Bangladesh will be supported in joining BRICS.
