- Russia's Gazprom stopped exporting natural gas to Poland and Bulgaria after both nations refused to make payments in Rouble. But reports say at least 10 European companies have agreed to Putin's rouble-only demand. Palki Sharma Upadhyay tells you more.

@@pastanight9782 India has its own Energy needs like EU does. We import 95% of our energy requirements. Most of it comes from Middle East, 7% from USA and 1% from Russia. EU buys more Russian oil and gas in an afternoon than what India buys in a month from Russia. Sanctioning Russian in everyway possible and expecting them to not retaliate is stupid.

India must sign long term oil and gas supply from Russia in order to build India economy faster and stabilise it's prices in order control inflation.

That's how the EU have been supplying Ukraine and Poland for a while now, which is exactly what created the shortages and insane gas price increase last fall-winter. Except Russia/Gazprom reduced the overall amount they are sending to the EU by the Polish and Bulgarian cuts. So if other countries decide to send PL/BG their gas they will be left with shortages in return, even more than what they have now.
Except Hungary, we have a contract until 2036. As PM Orbán said "we have gas to heat our homes, and they [the West] can give birth as men. It's what your government grants you."

They can still pay in Euros oder Dollars, but only to an account with Gazprombank in Russia. There these payments will be converted to Rubles and used to pay for the Gas. Russia of course is not interested in payments to western banks, where the money can be frozen/stolen at will.
Everybody misses this moment. It's not rubles that has a main meaning but on which bank account money are transferred.

Not technically, Russia did make it clear what was going to happen to countries that refused to comply with the new paying mechanism. That's a fact.
All of the EU Countries are still purchasing Russian energy resources except Bulgaria & Poland. If these two countries don’t want to pay, they’re not going to get any Russian energy resources for free.

They are willing the pay with the currency the contract states which is dollar. They are willing to pay with euros as well. The only currency they are not willing to use is rubbles. So Russia should honor the contract and accept the payment as was stated in the contract. It is Russia who is not accepting payments from Poland and Hungary. You should take note that Russia has not cut gas transport to all of europe even though they are paying with dollars.
The sanctions are because Russia attacked Ukraine unprovoked. They did attack already in 2014 but now the agression is much bigger. Russia has bombed Ukranian cities and some cities in the east are decimated with no buildings standing. There are several mass graves found in areas that Russians occupied for a while when they were attacking Kiev. And because of the war there will be world wide famine. Not only because of grain exports, but fertiliser exports and energy hikes that are essential for many farmers. Russian exports are diminished greatly because, many of its transport routes go through black sea which is war zone.
India might be ok because of their farming system seems more resilient. That is if their neighboring countries don't star warring.
Frankly I can't see no winners here. And Russia is even threathening with nuclear war and if that happens I thinnk many would rather be dead than face the aftermath.

@Xyran Kashyap The fact is this is only news in India, the western news aren't really mentioning India's purchase of Russian oil. I don't think many people care because the switch to other forms of energy and other energy contracts will take a while for several countries. Sanctions are meant to hurt over time, not immediately
No, the Russians failed to follow minsk agreement. Their soldiers should have withdrawn from Donets before any true voting could have been made. Instead those soldiers chose to continue hostilities. The russians were and are ethnicly cleansing ukranians and any who weren't fervent supporters of Russia. Any vote of independence would have been fradulent if there were to be russian soldiers deciding who vote.
If a country can't pay in a money the seller can use - it's sort of like not paying. And of course the West confiscated 200 billion or so of Russia's foreign reserves - so, Russia does not want to build up "confiscatable" reserves. Doesn't want to give the gas for free. Sort of understandable why it requires rubles now.
Th money the West froze was in Western banks, the payments for Russian gas are in a Russian bank, and they can't freeze them. But Russia would get quite fast it's access to SWIFT and the money if it stopped the invasion.
They don’t require roubles. They require EUR/USD payments for gas deliveries to be made to Gazprom bank which will convert it roubles and pay Gazprom in roubles. Which does not make much sense, since Gazprom could convert these payments on its own. So there is some underlying reason like the one you mentioned (though I believe its not relevant now, maybe risk for the future that Russia wants to minimize), or it is just attempt to demonstrate toughness or excuse for stopping gas supplies to Europe.

If the EU sanctions Russian banks, then Russia has the right to demand payment in roubles. Russia has also provided a mechanism for paying, if Bulgaria and Poland still have a problem then could be lights out.
