I throughly enjoyed this.....and now I want a 45-70. On a side note, I really liked the still photography in this video 👍
Thanks man
@@VSO_Gun_Channel i got a marlin 1895 i really like but i also love that henry
I just purchased a .45/70 but its a Marlin1895.Sale price and tax and all hat came to 658.99.I plan to still get a Henry X rifle but im looking more into a pistol caliber with greater capacity for home defense? My .45/70 is a cannon! LOL Fun as hell brother!!!
I got the Henry X in 357/38, you’ll love yours because it’s a handy little carbine.
I got this about two weeks ago and shot for the first time yesterday. It’s a beast and so much fun to shoot!
I bought a bunch of Steinel 300g jhp for mine and holy shit it kicks. Over 2000 fps out of the X is just Savage.
BlazerMountain the heaviest I’ve shot is Underwood Xtreme Hunter 325gr. It’s got a punch! Also got some Hornady leverevolution 250gr and it’s fast. I’d recommend either.
Being 5’9 and on the lean side, I don’t need a bullet that weighs as much as me 🤣
@@jtunderwood5545 I'm about your size ish and yeah it's definitely a handful haha.
Lever guns are fun! I have a old marlin 30-30 and a Henry big boy in .357mag. Love that Henry started making them side loading now.
I’m on the fence between a more daily .357 Henry or the 45-70 SHTF rifle.
This is Henry’s middle finger to remlin. Well played Henry, well played
A Henry with a loading gate? wah? 😱
Mines on order now! Can't wait!
@@Dillon-ux6it still waiting on my Henry X in 44 Mag, been on backorder since August.
@@jeffumbach I got mine in 357/38, you’ll love it because it’s a handy little carbine.
Never, ever reload ammunition like that with a metal vise. Extremely dangerous!
Makes a video about a levergun using ammo that won't feed through the magazine. I would have went with a powder coated lead, flat-nose, 405-420 projectile for sub-sonic ammo.
If they make this in the, All Weather Chrome finish, I'm buying it.
They do now!
@@kevinsteffe2402 Is it called anything special?
21st century lever action - cool!
I think the hornady subx 45-70 is already on the market, so there are subsonic factory loads for the 45-70
.45-70 is great, thanks for this.
Seems lever guns are the only rifles not flying off the shelves compared to others in all the beer panic buying
Which is too bad. Most lever guns will make a pretty badass home defense rifle even if you live in restrictive states. ua-cam.com/video/DSBmk-02eRE/v-deo.html
Don't reload, too bad. It's fun and relaxing and amazing how you can tune the rounds to your gun. To each his own.
Agreed! Much better to load your own rounds!
Get some trail boss...super quiet and no mess/corrosion with pryodex
That semi-pistol grip 45-70 looks like a Henry hit.
I want one of the new Henry’s sooo bad. I’d like to get mine in .357 though. I have a S&W .357 revolver already and it just makes sense to me to keep the ammunition the same.
I was thinking of doing that too since I have a Ruger GP100. I imagine if you have a .44 revolver you could do this too. I hope this will be available in California when dealers start restocking since it is a lever action gun. Does anyone know for sure if it is CA compliant. The state gets funny on things like silencers which are a felony here and I'm wondering if just being threaded would disqualify it.
@@lionelwhiskerknot Completely Legal in California for now. Just special ordered mine a couple weeks ago. Other rifles sold in CA have threaded barrels also such as the mini 14, and the M1A rifle. Praying they don't go after those next. Pretty soon you won't be able to own a sling shot!
@@Dillon-ux6it Yeah. It is hard enough just getting ammo these days. Who did you order yours from out of curiosity. Most of the places I've checked are sold out.
@@lionelwhiskerknot Barnwood Arms in Ripon CA. They didn't have it in stock. They said it could be November or December before I receive it.
@@lionelwhiskerknot Not sure if you reload but I've seen Large Pistol Magnum primers becoming available again recently. .44 mag is what caliber I ordered my Henry. Way more economical to reload vs purchasing Ammo for that.
Just bought the Henry All Weather 45-70, now I want the Henry X too!
That is one nice suppressor you got there
I don't know why so many people think its such sacrilege to put polymer furniture, mlok slots and QD points, and rails onto lever guns, I think they look really awesome and it keeps these guns from just dying out in the marketplace. I have the midwest industries rail on my marlin and i freaking love it but I am frustrated at the lack of aftermarket stocks available. Only Boyd's seems to be making Marlin 1895 stocks and they are all wood laminate of course :eyeroll: wish Marlin would sell the polymer stocks they fit on their dark series to the public as just parts! The hand guard on that Henry looks a lot like the one designed by Ranger Point Precision. I wonder if they are the supplier?
The same people that'll tout the 2A wasn't just for muskets.😆 So they acknowledge technological advancement was obvious to the forefathers but you shouldn't add polymer and accessory mounts on your 1800s weaponry for whatever reason.🤦
Because wood furniture on a lever gat fucks harder
This is about to be my first rifle
Trail Boss is excellent powder.
So this is what the MK2 carbine on modern warfare is based off... always loved lever actions, nothing like that crank and shoot... not that way guys lmao.
There is this powder called Trail Boss that makes a lot more sense than black powder.
Interesting, and informative!
Great video! Very cool to see the first round pop on the IR. I'm curious what you might think between this and the Marlin Dark in 45-70. Supposed to be a quarter pound heavier on the Marlin but the Henry gives you two more inches of barrel but one fewer in the magazine (I think).
Guns.com does a great video comparing those two rifles side by side. ua-cam.com/video/gY8DNy1zHwI/v-deo.html
Just got my 45-70 today, Then drove through three states to find ammo....Nothing :(
Clicked on this video from the UA-cam recommend after another VSO video. I thought maybe I had already seen it, but was interested in the Henry enough to risk rewatching a video.
Turns out, yes, I definitely saw this already, but I am still watching... I think I need this gun.
I already have a 45-70 lever gat, but this makes me want to get another.
New to the lever game and want a Model X. Do you suggest .45-70 or something else? Maybe .30-30?
Taylor G I’m just a huge fan of 45-70 so maybe a bit biased. But you really can’t go wrong with either .45-70 or .30-30. All down to your local ammo selection and what kind of hunting you wanna do if any. Just remember, the only good government is .45-70 gov 😂
@@justsomemincedgarlic truer words have never been spoken I don't think
Now you just need to try what those two Aussie guys are doing - offhand at 1000 yards with your 45/70.....😁
BTW, you can still get black powder. The flintlock shooters need it, but you are quite correct that the substitutes are what is available by just walking into your local store.
Pyrodex is quite consistent if you remember a couple things. One, the can needs to be fresh for best performance. A can you opened six months ago won't have as much "oomf" as one you opened yesterday. No, I don't have proof of that, but that's my experience. Once loaded into a shell, shouldn't be any issues. Two, compression of the charges needs to be consistent to achieve consistent velocities.
Thank you for making this video. I just bought one and am unable to test it out for a few months
Nice. Always cool to see a lever gun
thats a pretty badass blaster!
Nice. Unfortunately my budget doesn't permit another long gun purchase, since I already have home defense adequately covered.
What do you have
@@danielb27 A mosin 91/30, an AR, and a 12 guage pump
@@Life_Is_Torture0000 nice
Very NICE thank you for the video. :)
Would love one in stainless!
I'm on the fence, between 45LC and 45-70 for my next buy.Would like to lever and revolver in same caliber.
you could always go with the magnum research BFR in 45-70!
I'm considering that option.I know they have tight tolerances, and wonder if that will conflict with my desire load plinking quantities of black powder shells.I am hunting down an Ultra Slug this week to shoot all brass black powder slugs out of.
I've always liked big bores, got my 338 Win Mag at 16.
I have a Henry All Weather in the 45-70 and LOVE it. Can't wait till I can add the model X in the 45-70.
ur gunz are flapping bro!
Trail boss smokeless powder my man. Super soft shooting and they would be slow enough to be sub sonic depending on the bullet you use. Plus you wouldn't have to deal with the black powder clean up since we all love cleaning our weapons ya know?
30-30 and 35remington would be nice. Maybe followed by 350 legend
That bowers suppressor is so freaking big. Get you a hybrid 46. Smaller, lighter, just as versatile
The Bowers can is absolutely a giant donkey dick. The difference is the Silencerco product just sucks one. Which position would you rather be in?
The VSO Gun Channel bro, do you even have a silencerco hybrid? Sounds like you don’t know what you’re talking about. It has some of the best decibel reduction for most calibers and it won’t make your firearm weight an extra 10 pounds
Nah, I’ve shot them at industry events, not something I would burn a stamp on. Also. You know the bowers can is 338LM rated right? Do that to a hybrid and create an IED
The VSO Gun Channel you do realize the Hybrid 46 is 338 LM rated too? Lol. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Wish you would have put some of the subsonics into the dirt so we can hear how quiet it is
what is the length of the barrel on your X gun?I just love it!!!
19.xx" he said
Tactical Bacon!
I’ll be posting my X model 44 magnum review soon.
Brass Catcher 👍
Nice video.
I'm wondering, what factory ammo were you shooting before you switched to the reloading segment? It didn't seem to recoil too harshly, from here anyway. Do you recall the bullet weight and velocity? Thank you sir!
Looked through all of the comments, and the description... Does anyone know what the whistling song at the beginning and end is called? Really dig it. Also I want to get this in .357 mag. Can't wait to get it and a can someday on it!
I found one and I've been able to score Ammo for it too. One of the benefits of this model. It's easier to find the .38 Special but some ammo is better than no ammo.
Looks like a Tactical lever action
This suppressed with a thermal would be a good hog gun.
And a 458 socom ar if you can suppress them. Can you?
Yes you can.
Hey is it possible you can make a video on the five seven vs the 17 hmr I never seen a comparison between the 2 and I'm sure it would be interesting seeing the results.
Actually it would be much easier to make black powder than smokeless in the apocalypse I hear
Thanx for testing hunting ammo vice subsonic and awesome that you tested at night! Interesting results, the follow up shots were totally dark...
that's a sweet rifle!
What a beauty!
As always great information excellent video
❤️🇺🇸
Nice, but I'd like it alot more without the removable tube feed mag.
It still has the tube to use if you want to ! I like it with both.
Richard Maunder
You can use it without the tube?
@@samsum4525 The side gate fills the tube or you fill the tube from the front end like on others.
I had to give my 1/2 of our stim. Check and since i have been out of work for the most part for the last three weeks she would only give me 200.00 bucks of the check lol i used it for AMMO which all of us need to buy as much as we can for as long as we can! I have an odd feeling we are all going to need some to feel better or worse!!!?!!! What i would really like to know about the 45/70 is what kind of range can u reach out too accurately?I really want a henry but i want a 30/30 or maybe a 308 but i dont want to lose the mag tube? lol i think its what makes the whole look of a cowboy gun?lol
300 400 yards if you shoot good.
I must have this in my life. Henry > Marlin.
your vid popped up - cause i'm doing a LOT of 45-70 research. i need a rifle that can make a brown bear STOP in the 1st or 2nd shot. . . and provide an elk for the winter. for 45 years my .50 hawken was enough - 1 shot . . but i find that a 2nd or 3rd shot might be the new "norm" - Your pyrodex and other loads was what i wanted to know. "let's get to it" was what i heard in the army, and THANK YOU for not trying to impress me with 4 minutes of "i know shit" . .
Awesome vid and much science!
OH ... I didn't mention my 21 YR Devotion to my country... U.S.N.
You pretty much got your wish gun! :) Fun stuff
Sweet looking Henry.
I was hearing tons of oncoming ricochet in the last portion of the video. Could that difference in trajectory be because of the massive drop in velocity?
great video! have you tried lever revolution brass for your sub sonic rounds? the cases are shorter and may work for those bullets
def want this
So your carrying that on our fishing trip next summer for salmon?
PS- the big dude was hilarious. Love real people and not the UA-cam wannabes.
What is the best 45-70 bullet to deer hunt with
noticed these aren't really made for +p rounds what's up with that?
In the IR scene, the first suppressor shot flash was very noticeable the following shots hardly noticeable. Why is that?
Because all the oxygen in the suppressor was burned out in the first shot. Subsequent shots are noticeably quieter as well.
Nice I want one in 45 LC
What song is that? It's badass for a gun intro video
@minimalist outdoors Last of Our Rides - Sight of Wonders
wait......45/70 has an over 300gr projectile?Wow i may have to reconsider this one?Although i do need to know how far out they can reach accurately?
Standard 45/70 was a 405gr...can run up to 500ish grain of u run a cast lead load...guys shoot 1000yds with sharps style guns in old style shooting competitions
Watch "Quigley down Under"..
@@brentwinkelman1990 wow 500Gr? well i purchased a Marlin 1895 Classic 4+1 lever gun! I LOVE IT!!! but now i see a clear need to start reloading!LOL
@Lilac Tortoise sorry but even though i love history in all its glory ,nobody can know all there is to know about it?hehe i love shooting sports but im not a 100% know it all.But i love learning about stuff i like so i will look it up!??? hehe
@@paulbaerwald8055 saw it but it didnt dawn on me that he was using a 45/70? I just remembered it was a sharps rifle....lol I am seriously considering a single shot too now?lol
Sketchy reloading.
What do you mean, not as easy as mag fed?
@@davidlocke1668 no. Reloading like that in the metal vise is super dangerous and sketchy. If the primer was to pop. It would be a mini pipe bomb going off. Super DANGEROUS. Like people die doing dumb shit like that.
Just purchased one for my law bday / early Xmas gift to myself. I need some of those extreme penetrator rounds … got an inside track ?
Pretty sure the threading is not 5/8x24 for 45-70...
Why won't they make a 30-30 for the X model?
They could’ve evened the tube up at the barrel
I think the .357 model X would be a better apocalypse gun.
My thoughts exactly as well. Ammo is cheaper, lighter to carry, effective to mid-range, and can be matched with an identical caliber sidearm revolver. 44 Magnum would also fit the bill if you do your own reloads and can handle the recoil in the revolver.
@@GavinSwick the .357 also takes .38 special, which is also widely available and even cheaper than the .357.
Love the suppresor...another reason to leave California in the rear view mirror.
Wish it came in 30/30. NOTHING against 45.70 at all. It's just so darn expensive to shoot.
Beautiful gun. Where does the caliber designation or 45/70 name come from?
.45 caliber and when the round was originally introduced it used 70 grains of black powder. Hence 45/70.
What is that song in the opening?
Which can is that fitted on your x please
What suppressor did you use?
I wish they came in a 3030 20" barrel.
Ew why.
@@Blazerghost because its a much cheaper round, more readily available, lighter recoil, better ballistics out to 200 yards.
Yooooo how was the accuracy with iron sights
What surpressor did you buy on their website?
son of a bitch, I thought a bunch of stuff was falling down behind me xD 0:37
What’s the tune that is playing in the beginning?

Dammm marlin dark or Henry x now????🤔🤔
Neither...Taylor's and Co ridge runner all the way!
Henry; as I personally don't care for Remington's rifles.
Dude! 405 cast boolits.....
I'm still trying to get the 357 version of this gun. No luck so far.
Ray McCarthy these were released just before the pandemic. Henry probably had to shut down the factory and halt production as soon as demand hit.
