I'm a long time lever action kind of guy. My first one was handed down to me when I was 14 from my dad ( marlin Glenfield 30-30) , and now I'm 46 and I handed it to my son when he turned 14 this year. Of course I found and bought me another one just like it and my dad had done the same back when it was my turn. Since then I've added a henry big boy 45 lc and I absolutely love it. Great video, very well spoken . I agree with everything you had to say 100 percent.
Love lever actions. Got hooked as a kid watching The Rifleman. There wasn’t one problem Chuck Connors couldn’t solve with that lever gun. The tactical rifle of the 1890s still has a place in the gun rack today. .357 or .45 long colt, is a good home defense round, especially in a suburban environment. It’s a good choice if you live in a place where an AR draws unwanted attention or the state has created a number of legal issues with possessing one.
They don't just make good home defense guns, but also hunting guns. Load a Henry 45 colt with +p ammo and you got your self a poor mans 45/70. Hell, if a .357 magnum revolver is good enough for bear defense, its even better out of a rifle.
I have the 92 In . 44 mag/spc. Been carrying it for 18 years. Carrying one cal. For both hand gun and rifle. Big enough for hunting or defense here in the rockies. 12 in the rifle 6 in the one on my hip haven't found a problem 18 44 mags can't solve
I have a Henry lever action in 357 with brass chamber and octagonal barrel. I was thinking of selling it to buy another gun but when I opened the case and looked at it in all it’s glory I just couldn’t do it. Think I made the right choice!!!
Just finished paying off a layaway on one of those a month ago. I'm glad I did because henry/marlin/Winchester levers are still incredibly hard to find in 357 at pawn shops where you can put em on layaway
....Same here, so it always was the biggest perk for me...Waiting on a used model 92 in .357/38 ...My first lever and thkugh its without the saddle ring and its has the normal loop I feel blessed since lever actions in anything other than .22 just never seem to be stock and when they are they don't stick around long.

I have several Henry rifles. (22LR, 44mag, and 30-30). I have an older Marlin 357mag, 1894CB, octagon barrel. I added Skinner sights. Just a fun gun to use. Lever actions are lots of fun. The 30-30 has taken plenty of hogs over the years. I have a Vortex 2-7x32 scope on it. This rig does a fine job. I like the good-looking wood on lever guns.
I've had a Henry and Ruger teamed-up in .44 mag., for years. I recently got/paired-up another pair but in .357, too. Trusty and lightweight but VERY effective for the tasks I expect to need them to do. I don't slap anything 'Fancy' onto any of them. I'm a huge believer in the K.I.S.S. principle. :-)

What the intro to this video clearly shows is the absolute utility of a split bench seat in a pickup if your truck carries a gun in the backcountry. I’ve carried everything from a hunting rifle to a Mini14 to an AR between the seats. My back country vehicle has a console, and I miss being able to have my long guns so easily within reach.
As a proud Henry fan boy, I own the X gun in 357/38. My main reasons are: cool factor, complements my pistol (Chiappa Rhino 40DS 357/38). I also run a red dot which gives combat effective hits out to 200yds.
The first gun I bought was a 1967 Winchester model ‘94 in 30-30. I added a sling, but that’s all I’m going to do to it. I want a tacti-cool lever gun in .357 with all the extras.
I'm in almost the exact same position. Have my Winchester 30-30 with a sling and I too want a 357/38 but I won't tactical it. Maybe a red dot but nothing more.
@@nodayatthebeach that’s the beauty of it. We could theoretically buy the exact same gun, but if we ever met at the range, they would look completely different because of the accessories we’ve added to make each one our own,

Great option and a lot of fun to shoot. Also, excellent choice where AR’s are either illegal or a legal hassle - AND lever actions don’t scare people. I predict they will rise in popularity through the next several years.
I absolutely love lever guns. I've got 8. 2 henry's, 2 Rossi's, a marlin, a winchester and a chiapa. I also have a couple of the rifles you forgot between muzzle loaders and lever actions. Falling block breach loaders. They took full cased bullets. Black powder, but full modern style bullets. Both of mine are sharps in 45/70 in modern powder. No black powders in my collection. I love guns of the late 1800s. Not american here either btw. Aussie. But love american west guns. Along with my regular hunting rifles. 👍
You need a nice leather adjustable sling on that Henry , you can use a D-ring choker wrap on the stock without drilling a hole in the stock if you choose, or you can have a D-ring added to your stock cover by a Leather fab tech. Henry makes a factory clamp on mag tube sling accessory for the fore end . Just like My Golden boy frontier octagon barrel model.
I'm left-handed, I have the same rifle, but I have the extra rounds held on the butt stock on the RIGHT side. It's easier for me to pull them out, then put them in from the same side.
Historically, they didn't jump straight from slow cap & ball reloading to lever-action repeaters. I'm sure you've heard of the Sharps rifle, a single-shot breech load. There were also revolving rifles with a multi-round cylinder, and double barrel rifles which functioned pretty much like a coach gun.
I have a Henry Big boy X in .45 Colt. Great fun! As far as furniture, the black synthetic it comes with is great. I haven't put any type of optic on it yet. It comes with a set of dang nice fiber optic sights.
I love lever actions because they are the best combination of speed, capacity and reliability (due to the manual action) that you will get from any firearm imo.
I have a Henry All Weather, without the side loading gate, in .44 Magnum because my brother-in-law bought one with a side loading gate. I really like that rifle. Because of its’ presence, I didn’t use my grandfather’s Winchester 94 that was made in 1950 in “.30 WCF.” Maybe I would have seen a buck if I had the old .30-30 …
Cool that you kept it minimally molested. You being a lefty I feel the need to mention the lever action is far more user friendly to a lefty than any right handed rifle. And these rifles come in everything from .22lr to 45-70 Oh and they can be converted to take down rifles and that allows the use of other barrel sets if you wanted to invest in that feature. It is expensive though. I own three lever guns Marlin 336 Uberti 1873 And a Shiloh sharps 1874
I have the Henry 30-30 Wildlife. It's silky smooth. I was able to improve the range with a Vortex scope. Been wanting to get the 357 to go with my El Patron. Im not into cowboy action but it looks like fun.
For sure! Feels like ya holding a rifle and it feels good ! Love mine, just don’t have side feed! And for most people it’s not intimidating ! And the accuracy n smooth shooting! Wouldn’t change nothing about it, like to add red dot and stock holster!
It's important to note that if you handload, then the 44mag can be easily tailored to match any gentle, soft-shooting 38 load you like, but it can also soar FAR beyond the power of even the hottest 357 loads. For versatility, the 44mag gets the nod.
More versatile? Yes. Cooler? Probably. However, at twice the price, I’m sticking with .357. I can load 180gr cast bullets for about 22 cents per round. Heavy for caliber 44 Mag is gonna run me 35+ cpr. That’s not even counting the more expensive brass. Besides, my 180gr XTP load moves at around 1750-1800 fps from my Marlin 94 and that’s plenty for just about anything. My Cowboy action load is a 38 SPL with a 105gr TCFP that’s moving about 600 FPS. My .22 LR lever gun kicks harder! But you are correct, 44 SPL can be very soft shooting, and no amount of hot rodding will ever make a 357 put out more power than a 44.
@blainewright6060 great points 🫡 I try to streamline, so I only shoot 4 loads predominantly. A light 240 grain Keith "skeeter" load using HP38, a general purpose 240 grain Hardcast Keith with a max charge of H110, a defensive 240 grain xtp with a max charge of H110, and a heavy field load using a 300 grain hardcast WFN with a max charge of H110. I only have to buy 2 powders and 3 bullets, and there's no problem I can't solve 😁 My 240 skeeters only cost me about $0.29, with the xtp loads making me cry a bit at $0.45. I'm honestly considering just using kieths as a defensive load. I seem to remember doing the math and seeing that my "light loads" with HP38 are equal to a mid-range 357 in power? Either way, you're definitely beating me in cost per shot 🤣 I'm just invested is all. You know how it is.
@blainewright6060 158 and 180 grain hardcast .358s are soooo good. Where do you get yours? I keep thinking that I'll step into the 357 world, buy a revolver and carbine, but I always come back to the same math. Just to break even on the cost of the guns and extra reloading components, I would have to shoot something like 35,000 rounds 🤣 So I guess I'm stuck as a 44 man 😁
@@ajm2872 I usually shoot the Missouri Bullet Company Hi-Tek coated Strikers. I think they’re like 12 cents a piece or something, but they’re actually hard cast with a BHN of 18. The 105s run me a whopping 9 cents and I use literally 1 cent worth of Clays behind them. Crazy cheap.
I have the same model in .44 mag. Less than 30 days old from Rice Lake. Your loop looks slightly bigger than mine, I wish it was like yours. Henry must’ve changed up the dimensions.
Ya i couldnt agree more, and im canadian i havent gotten one yet but my father in law has a win 94 in 30-30 and i hope some day i could buy that or inherit that gun. Agreed they arent really setup well to run optics and need a cheek riser and the old furniture is what gives it the look fiber optic peep sights more erganomic levers butt stock cover all good anything more and it loses that "heritage" look
357 level action is absolutely my home defense option 7 rounds plus able to tactically reload when / if needed. Also, 125g SJHP probably the most effective 2 legged predator round there is and don't have to worry about over penetration too much.
I also have a golden boy in 44 magnum it kicks like a damn mule when I shot it the first time I was NOT ready for the bite the brass butt stock gave me! Haha I had to adjust the way I fire it and hold it very tight into my front shoulder.
Good video but I just wanna add one more point to it. The reason you should own a repeater is because... With modern rifles, yeah having a detachable magazine and higher capacity magazines is cool and all, but that's just another component that can get lost or break. Less parts, less processes, less potential points of failure.
I have a Henry Big Boy in 357 without the side gate. Be aware that you cannot use Hornady 357 Leverloution ammo as you will not be able to get the front loading brass tube to go over that ammo. The cartridges cock over slight due to the pointed bullets. I called Henry and they said there was nothing wrong with the gun and said you cannot use that ammunition as it will jam in the mechanism. I’m not sure about the side gate model. So I have 6 boxes of high price ammo I can only use in my S&W 686 revolver.
As a lefty as well i approve this message! As a Canadian these are a great option to use handgun ammo while our present woke Prime Minister has our handguns in lockdown.
Great line. Another good one, "Anything happens to that boy, you're gonna die. My fault, your fault, nobody's fault. You're gonna die." Makes me sad that Palladin had to be the bad guy in that one.
Just the idea of having a sidearm and rifle share ammunition just makes sense. 357 and 44 are more than enough stopping power and it also takes away the “scary gun of war” bias that will hurt you in court
That is what you call the chilling effect of constant lawfare. If we get only the guns that are politically correct then soon the list of politically correct guns will dwindle until there is nothing correct to own and you're suspect even for owning a single shot bolt action youth model 22 in pink. I'm going for Max Fuck the Machine. Though I would still rock a lever action. Any thoughts of getting something because it won't upset people who are upset by guns? Those thoughts need to be banished until the day comes that they do something to make US happy.
Woke up one fine Spring morning last year and told my wife that I wanted a "Lever Action Rifle". She said: "Then you better go get one"! What a gal!! Bought the Henry .22 and LOVE it. Now I'm going back to get the Henry .357. Question: I know that it comes down to what personally "feels right"; but how easy is it to remove that Holosun Red Dot? I've actually never shot w/ a Red-Dot....But might be a good thing to have.....Any thoughts for this newbie; before I, "pull the trigger"?
This may be a stupid question on a video 6 months old but if you wanted to could you hunt deer with .357 lever action or would you want to do that with one of Henry's larger caliber option
Dang I was hoping you had some in stock to sell. I’ve been looking for a bit as I chest carry either a Ruger Match or G20 while hiking/camping, for brown bear. I’ve been dying to find a nice 357 lever to go with the wheel gun. I can always take my great gpa’s 1894 he bought in 1917 but I’m just wanting to take one round not multiple.
I prefer the rifles EXACTLY as they come from the factory-- NOTHING added.. No scops, no laser sights-- NOTHING.. I prefer the side loader.. and would love to have one of those with a set screw for rapid fire... LOVE shooting like that. Spin- fire, fire, fire, fire, -- up to 11 shots-- and flip . I WOULD use mine in defensive situations.. The caliber doesn't matter in defense-- accuracy matters. I've lost one eye recently and haven't fired one since-- but I USE to NEVER miss... and have done trick shooting since I was 6...(I'm 67 now.)
I am still learning. But the "Skinner sights"; those are the rear sight being a ring near the very back; right? I absolutely love those. Does Henry sell those or something? I would love this exact model as a SHTF rifle with skinner irons. I live in a restrictive area. I can technically get a "featureless" AR style 10 rounder. But it doesnt fit me as a lefty and I just loathe the way they look. I find ARs and modern weapons VERY UGLY save for some of the pistols. I would prefer to have a .357 lever, maybe a 9mm pcc, and a 12 gauge shotgun for my long guns. I already have a plethora of handguns. I wanted to pair this with my Taurus 65.

I only have to buy 2 powders and 3 bullets, and there's no problem I can't solve 😁
My 240 skeeters only cost me about $0.29, with the xtp loads making me cry a bit at $0.45.
Just to break even on the cost of the guns and extra reloading components, I would have to shoot something like 35,000 rounds 🤣
So I guess I'm stuck as a 44 man 😁
@@ajm2872 I usually shoot the Missouri Bullet Company Hi-Tek coated Strikers.
I have a rossi lever action 30 30. I love the lever action.
Wow, this video inspired me to go buy a Marlin!
If you want something better than buckhorn, get a Skinner peep. Looks right and a nice upgrade!
357 level action is absolutely my home defense option 7 rounds plus able to tactically reload when / if needed. Also, 125g SJHP probably the most effective 2 legged predator round there is and don't have to worry about over penetration too much.
I have the 45-70 Golden Boy. But that is a nice level action rifle.
I also have a golden boy in 44 magnum it kicks like a damn mule when I shot it the first time I was NOT ready for the bite the brass butt stock gave me! Haha I had to adjust the way I fire it and hold it very tight into my front shoulder.
The 357/38 special ammo capability did it for me.
Great post! Love that you are a Lefty!
Good video but I just wanna add one more point to it. The reason you should own a repeater is because...
With modern rifles, yeah having a detachable magazine and higher capacity magazines is cool and all, but that's just another component that can get lost or break.
Less parts, less processes, less potential points of failure.
It should also be mentioned that pistol cartridges out of even a carbine ups the speed and power considerably!
Between 200-500 fps depending on powder and bullet used. 300fps typical. Turns a special into a magnum.
@@mkshffr4936 Even greater when compared to 4 inch pistol barrel.
Love your shirt!
I have the full length in 357 also run a holosun green dot
As a lefty as well i approve this message! As a Canadian these are a great option to use handgun ammo while our present woke Prime Minister has our handguns in lockdown.
I liked the smash button real good.
Side loader is a go!!
I was pooping.. that's the only reason you got my like, you sorcerer
Walnut furniture. Beautiful. The way it should be.
Makes me think of John Wayne in True Grit. Fill your hand you SOB 👍.
Those thoughts need to be banished until the day comes that they do something to make US happy.
ngl you had me convinced in the first 5 seconds
The RDR reference made me like & subscribe immediately!
That's awesome. The Holosun is removed with an allen wrench very easily!
I'm guessing that you see a definitive improvement w/ the Red Dot? Thanks!@@GunMagWarehouseTV
less blocking your view of the target, but there are pros and cons to both really.
I have the 357 Henry lever action, but mine doesn’t have the side gate but that’s ok 10+1 !
I have the color case hardened version, rifle length though. Very much 👍
I’ve been buying all my mags and ammo here didn’t know I’ve been watching them lol
cowboy action shoot looks cool
I will like the smash button for sure.
Smooth Rifle Man move 👍
357 levergun works well on 4 legged critters too.
what a sick look 🔥🔥
Beautiful rifle👍
5:25 no lol. firing rate for British regular was 20 seconds. Thats with flintlock too.
I need a lever action because it will fulfill my cowboy fantasies. I’ve always wanted one I’m just too damn poor. On that pb&j survival diet rn
I love this gun ❤
pooping and watching videos on company time... you got me...
Great video, can you share the link for your cheek riser?
I liked the smash button
Go EOTech on that bad boy!!
Love my Henry.
is there a repeater that has a detachable magazine, instead of the side load tube?
