Tic tic boom: The violent side of Tourette Syndrome | True Stories

- Опубліковано 6 жов 2018
- It’s the cruelest of conditions - and the uncontrollable tics and outbursts all too often mean a life of public ridicule. For many who have Tourette Syndrome, home is one of the few places they can find understanding and sanctuary. But there’s another little-known symptom of this condition that makes even family life hell. Violent mood swings, uncontrollable rages that turn loving homes into battlegrounds. As Alex Cullen reports, these rage attacks often leave parents fearing for their lives, desperate for help.

Perhaps waltzing into their room sticking a phone in their face doesn't help.
Eerie completely agree, it’s like they are looking for a reaction with the girl, leave her alone and she’ll calm down!
@@whatspoppin5358 my thoughts exactly.
Maybe they need some footage for this show exactly or need footage for a doctor. :/
Eerie when I was 12/13 I had these meltdowns and worse. I don’t have Tourette’s but constantly my mom would throw me in the hospital and claim I had autism - when who knows what the hell happened that caused these. I had severe depression aswell so I was put on multiple anti depressions - which I believe caused the violence. I was 10 times worse than these kids if you can even IMAGINE that, not pretty. I called my mom every name in the book, completely trashed her self esteem for good, would literally grab food out of her and my little sisters hands and say they were too fat, she fell asleep crying every night. Every time I think of those times I start sobbing - just imagining the looks on their faces when I did those things. All because doctors put me on the wrong medications for my age. But the thing is when I’d get mad usually I’d go off then go and slam my door and throw things etc and eventually I’d calm down. But then my mom started this thing where when I’d go off she’d start filming or come into my room and point a camera in my face , instead of calming down I’d do anything to grab the camera , break her phone , hit her anything. Filming a kid makes a situation A MILLION times worse - no one should do it , I have proof hah. Anyways now I speak out , I am a successful teen ; pretty, social , have a job, but do to my past I am 100 times smarter than any teen. Just because my life experiences ; some say I’ve had worse experiences and more life experiences than most 80 year olds. Minus the family etc etc. it sucks and I will never get over my extreme guilt and I can still barely sleep at night as I get flashbacks and HAVE to play Netflix in order to sleep - and I constantly feel pain for the things I did and the looks on their faces and way they cried will always be burned into my brain and I’ll always have regret even if they forgave me for all as it’s been yeaaars and I’m pretty much perfect ( well in emotions aspect noones perfect. ) I hate that part about my past and myself ; it sucks because no matter how many times they say they forgive me, if one were to die tomorrow I’d go off the edge with regret. But the past cannot be undone ; and that’s why I speak out for kids like this now and help them , and I’m looking to maybe become a counselor with my career. Sadly for these kids though it’s a physical thing and cannot be treated or stopped, barely curved. This is what they will always live with and it sucks.
Oath!! I was this severe when I was younger and the worst thing my dad could’ve done was get out the camera and film it.
That poor kid being filmed in his undies.

There is another violent case of tourettes from a girl in australia. Im glad she got a surgery to help
@@bceoofcharlescultandmember2428 yeah, I cried just watching the video.
It get can very bad. Some people's brains are just set to hurt themselves or their families, friends or even strangers. And since they can't control it, the tourettes can be very dangerous. But if they get a surgery they will be perfectly fine, not immediately, but after a while
Why are his parents yelling at him even thought he can’t control it.

I do know this, Cameron's mom SHOULD NOT grab him, drag him, or try to holding him down.
I mean maybe hold him so he dont break or hurt stuff but dragging him off the couch like bruh
He can hurt himself
@Dylan Dodge she can't it makes the ticks way worse and more violent
@@NyxInAshes I think what she means is that his tics are uncontrollable and it’s not really him. She got upset because he kicked her in the face but she should be smart enough and know that it was not on purpose so SHAME on the mother
I think the moms in the right here. She can’t be her sons punching bag either especially when in a state like that he most likely doesn’t know his own strength. Especially when he says he feels guilty and depressed afterwards. I’m sure he’d feel absolutely terrible if he came to and realized he’d just beat the crap outve his mother. You gotta do what’s best to protect yourself and your child.
The kids are literally asking not to be filmed but their parents are knowingly ignoring their wishes. That's literally just gonna make the ticing WORSE, plus the physical restraining. In many cases, physically restraining someone stimming or ticing can actually make it more violent and sever
It is sometimes necessary to film them for therapeutical reasons.

same ive never experienced this
It doesn’t lol
I have this but I was also diagnosed with autism and adhd and told that's what causes my tics, as far as I'm aware I do not have tourettes
Like literally I have never seen anything as close to my experiences as this video but I barely have visible tics and I know people with severe tourettes who as far as I know have never experienced this, I'm not sure what that means but it's interesting
I’m just gonna say if your kid has Tourette’s and they’re in a moment like this don’t film it!!!
It can be useful for, say, appointments in neurology but aside from that, and if they don’t want to be filmed then absolutely
It’s sad but evidence can help spread awareness and understanding. I mean look at all the people in the comments saying “I didn’t know it could get like this”
Any stressor sets off tics and can start an “attack” of them which, for my daughter, looks like seizures while standing. I can’t understand why these parents would push it so far... it’s one thing to set up a camera in the living room if the kids agree to be a part of it, but following them around and setting them off intentionally is just painful to watch.
“Don’t look at the camera” poor guy was trying his best not to think about it 😂 poor kid
It's like if they think something about someone they would just say it. I feel so bad like you can keep it to your self
Why would you put a laughing emoji man it’s not funny
Ruby Rosales I work with special needs kids and I can tell you with certainty almost all of them(those with tics) prefer to laugh at them instead of make something serious out of it. Making it serious just alienates them more.

@@AmberWoodMusicx it seemed that way to me too, but it sounds like you have a very definite opinion. I'm curious if you have experience with it (first or second hand)? No worries if you dont want to share, just curious.
@@chrismccaffrey8256 I have Tourette’s yes and although my words and movements don’t feel like me I’d never compare it with a dissociative disorder. I’m very much aware of what’s going on and feel the urges, and I know how to separate it, others won’t see what’s me because they don’t really know me such as strangers passing me by but it’s nothing like DID and Tourette’s with wires crossed
For Cameron it did seem like that yeah. I have tics and DID so I related a lot with this. You can have both.
That’s probably just how he describes it. I have rage attacks with my Tourette’s and I feel the same way and I have DID but I can tell its not because of my DID and I feel like and anger and tics I do are just out of my control like usual.

As a person with Tourette’s syndrome, this video is amazing as I think it’s meant for awareness. Thank you so much for spreading this.
I have severe Tourette’s and I’ve been through all of this stuff. But I’ve never taken a weapon and threaten someone i love. This is beyond anything I’ve ever seen for Tourette’s.
sorry about that but yes, even if i don't have tourette's, this is very unexpected and i feel sorry for them too
I feel like it’s mainly from anger which again, makes it worse and they can’t control it (I developed tics recently and I have a neurologist appointment soon so I can get a diagnosis but something similar happens to me just like them) Whenever my mom tries to stop me or won’t leave me alone while I tic, I get anxious/frustrated and start yelling at her while hitting myself to avoid hurting her. Personally it makes me uncomfortable when people touch me, talk to me, or won’t leave me to be which causes the tics and violence to get worse
This is not Tourette’s this is obviously pandas pans
This is sign that he doesn’t trust his parents. We can clearly see they don’t have patience for him. They don’t respect his boundaries (when he says, don’t touch me” they continue to touch him.) The father laughed at one of his tics (I understand sometimes we do things that can be interpreted as funny but it was just cruel of him to laugh the boy instead of trying to show compassion.) they grabbed him by the arm while the poor boy was screaming that he didn’t mean to, and they should know damn well he didn’t mean to. Filming him in a vulnerable moment where he didn’t want to be filmed (in his underwear no less!) these people are petty excuses for parents. It is disgusting.
This is why the kids get violent. They express their feelings and the people who are supposed to guide them and protect them are doing the exact opposite and they are FRUSTRATED. How else would you feel when you have a condition you can’t control and the very people who brought you into this world are the ones who are causing you greater frustration even though they KNOW you can’t control it?
@@shmoopsiepoo9169 i've never actually heard about it but thank you for the insight.

These kids saying they’re depressed because of their Tourette’s :( heartbreaking
The way he describes the feeling of going at the back of the head and seeing what's happening like it's an other person taking over makes it sounds like DID (dissossiative identity disorder)
Yeah my daughter has a fairly severe case of Tourette’s but it’s nothing like this. Some of these behaviors don’t seem to fit the criteria of “tics” at all. Tics are fairly quick and involuntary... these are violent mood swings. They definitely appear to have Tourette’s... you can see classic tics, but it seems like other things are going on too. The PANDAS diagnosis mentioned above does fit perfectly and is usually Tourette’s with a lot so psychological and psychiatric symptoms. Your heart just breaks for everyone involved. It’s a hard thing to watch your kiddo go through.
I thought of that, but DID stems from childhood abuse, not tics.
Agreed
I thought of that, too.
At first I wondered if it was a form of psychosis, but then it sounded like DID.
But I don't know what's actually going on. It's sad, though. I truly feel for him.
Yes that was absolutely my thought too!!!
Cameron has been in a few documentaries and news reports now. I applaud this kid truly. He's really educating a lot of people. It's got to be hard putting himself out there for the world and yet he does so and handles it so well. Thanks, Cameron. You're going to go far and thanks for educating people about Tourette's.
Brianna Gordy that’s true he is amazing!
not trying to flex but I know this kid personally, he really is amazing (irl)
Yeah, I saw him in the one with the other 2 boys where they were laughing and joking around with each other. They didn't show this part of his syndrome. He looked like a happy fun kid and I'd never have guessed the other side of his pain. He's gonna be a good man when he grows up though, that's for sure.

You have gotta be the stupidest human being I ever seen on the Internet. These kids have Tourette's, so they really can't control it like that.
The worst part about having tourettes is hurting yourself, other people, and animals.
When the school year started I was in class with 9th graders, when everyone was settling down one of my students screamed loudly and I told him to not do it again. He then asked me to come outside because he wanted to speak to me. I observed that his face was scratched and full of scars, and his right ear was seriously damaged. Then he started explaining that he had Tourette's syndrome and he told me he had short episodes where he uncountrolably screamed and hit himself (in the middle of his explanation he had an episode and I jumped because he really took me by surprise), he also showed me his chest, he had a small but deep wound that he had done to himself with his fist. We went back inside to start the class, he was quite participative but his episodes were about every minute or two minutes. He kept scaring his classmates and myself but everyone was understanding of him. Days later his mom came to speak to me about his condition and told me that he had gotten so much worse over the years because he wasnt being treated for his desease. Then she said he smoked weed to calm the pain, I didn't see him again. He became "homeschooled", we sent the exercises and homeworks but they never came back. Then we found out the kid was taken from his parents by social services because they gave him weed. The poor kid couldnt stay two minutes without having an episode. It's one of the saddest and most shocking experience I have ever lived as a Teacher. And its even worse that us teachers are not prepared to work with these Kids.
I read this all, that kid needs a friend and I got him if he needs one! 💜

It irritates me hearing Cameron’s parents say stop when he gets those attacks or when he’s ticcing and picking things up to throw things, like he can’t help it and you know that telling him to stop does. Not. Work. It’s a response to being overstimulated, I’ve worked at a Tourette’s camp for 4 years and this is so common, along with tics resembling seizures, I’ve been hit so many times it’s unreal the strength these kids have when they tic hit people.. trying to keep a kid whose having a cataplectic (seizure/paralysis) tic, their muscles are so tense it’s like trying to push a brick wall. Perhaps she didn’t even know about the condition
I wasn’t there so I wouldn’t know, but maybe she didn’t know? Doesn’t hurt to help educate her
That's not worth getting fired over
If the parent didn't inform the teacher about the child's condition, then the teacher shouldn't have gotten fired.

The outbursts and hallucinations part is completely disturbing and scary. Never in my life did I know there was a dark side of Tourette's. I hope the kids are doing alright today.
It's not! That's exaclty why you've never heard of or seen it. This isn't tourettes syndrome this is anger issues from spoiled children with pushover parents.
@@a.tbrown8813 No, it's Tourette's Syndrome. You never, or very rarely, see it out in public for a number of different reasons. Parents are sometimes ashamed and embarrassed because of their kid's conditions, many kids (such as myself) don't handle many public environments well, as it triggers our conditions.
@@a.tbrown8813 no this is an autoimmune disease called PANDAS/PANS/BGE being misdiagnosed as tourettes and being left untreated, bc you should always look into BGE if you have tics and phyciatric symptoms like extreme anger, but even if it was tourettes that is still a valid MEIDCAL diagnosis, and dont you see the adults lecturing in the video, they are doing the best they can. and physical medical issues arent always caused by bad parenting or menatl stuff so check yourself beofre you wreak yourself
It’s PANDAS and essential not to get confused with TS
see the parents screaming at them for it, it doesnt help
It's does
@@felixjmunoz6800 no.
@@vanessacalixto4340 yes it's does my cousin has that they never screemed and then it got somhard they had to send her away because they had a baby she came back from special camp and kinda calm down
@@felixjmunoz6800 it generally doesn't. You can't just prevent tics
@@felixjmunoz6800 what can prevent tics is making sure someone isn't stressed. Yelling at someone makes them more stessed
The clip at 6:02 : It looks like she is trying to calm down taking breaths but I don’t think it’s gonna help if you keep rushing in there with a camera in her face
100% agree
Hec yeah
I saw that too
Sometimes I scream and yell "Shut Up!" To my parents but I had no idea that, that could be one of my tics (I have Tourettes)
I didn't know this happened to other people, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone else going through an outburst like I do. I've known I had tourettes for a long time but never knew this was a symptom, I know these are kids and I'm nearly 30, but it's really strangely comforting to know that I'm not just messed up
people only see the tics but if you go a bit deeper you find that its emotionally crippling and physically debilitating. I fly into sudden rages quite alot. Mostly at home and sometimes at school. It's horrible, people sometimes just think that you fake it or that you just swear or that you can control it but its hard for us people with TS.
PRxZM SQUID as a person with TS I know this is all true
I feel you
I act like this
I get mad at something like if my grandma asks me how was your day at school I start to yell at her because I just want silence or I’m reading some thing then I apologize then it happens again but again for another small question or thing
😞
PRxZM SQUID Ik I have it I don’t hurt people
I just throw stuff but I say relay cruel things to people
But when it goes away I feel so sorry
4:18 I feel really sorry for the little boy he couldn’t help it and the mum shouldn’t be doing that! He didn’t want to do it she should understand!
That's what I said because his mom should be pulling him like that I mean he didn't mean to do it he just has a condition
That's what you do you have to unless you can get really hurt
My kid has another condition and it's very hard for me to still understand that he can't fully control himself
Those parents are so patient. And the little boy was such a smart articulate little man. Prayers.
I’m sorry. Those parents drag him I don’t think that’s okay…
Cameron seems really smart I hope he succeeds in life I hope all of these kids succeed in life bless all of them
The parents aren’t helping
They can't

My tics aren’t aggressive they’re just vulgar. My boyfriend calls my verbal tics savage mode because I’ll say the most random things in a situation that fit very well and it’s frustrating because when I’m in public people say I’m not a good person and often confront me about my behavior. It sucks really because some people just don’t understand that I can’t control it which makes me feel disappointed in myself because I’ve got Tourette’s which keeps me from leaving the house. Luckily I’ve got my boyfriend who makes the best of it because some of my tics absolutely crack him up which ends up making me laughing with him because of how stupid and weird some of my tic are.
Thats terrible. I hope you find ways to conquer the problem. Youll get through it!
I have some onstances where I cuss, but mainly its just movements
i’m really glad you have a boyfriend that’s not a dick about your tourette’s
Hey atleast your straight that's good.
Savage mode
If I have I kid with Tourette’s I’ll make like a room where they can break stuff or make a little room that locks lol
Lmfao I don’t know why I found this comment so funny
Um so like a soft room.. in a psycho ward 👁👄👁ummm
@@emilyyy5764 I mean ya basically, they wouldn't have to worry about it because they can be aggressive in there
Then you'd have to lock them in 24/7, not a good idea. Since it doesn't really come for a certain amount of time and then go away (the case in this video is a super specific case) plus it normally isn't this bad
How amazing to be informed.
Thank you kids for sharing you struggles and victories
my only problem is that half of these are where parents don't understand that they need to work with the syndrome EXAMPLE one girl said "stop filming me " if she doesn't like being filmed then don't blame her for an outburst,,,, Yes tourretes is very serious but some of this is mainly because the kids are upset about something (the things at the beginning)
hello freinds THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING
hello freinds if they’re having a rage don’t try to hold them back??? don’t tell them to stop?? as a person who has issues with anger i have a small insight as to what they feel
No. They are manic. When you’re manic you don’t even know what you’re saying.
I'm sorry but my son has tourettes and it is a living hell. Unfortunately no one believes the violence and rage that I have experienced and filming the episodes of rage is sometimes necessary to provide proof to the so called professionals so that they can see what myself is going thru. Its really terrible how my life and especially my sons life has turned out. There is no cure.
hello freinds It doesn’t start with the parents filming. When the outbursts start, the parents have to film to provide proof and film for the specialists. My sister has something similar to Tourette’s. I can get into detail if you want me to, but it’s complicated. The therapists need to know what’s going on, and I know that one of the specialists asked if we had recordings of my sister’s behavior when it all first started.
"Just don't bully. Don't bully anyone actually" 💜💜💜
also Cameron’s parents shouldn’t pull him and shove him it’s horrid
I just recently got diagnosed with TS. And I've been searching about it ever since I started to want to know about my condition. This is literally the first time I've seen or heard about rage episodes on people with TS. And I'm having a hard time believing that this is just TS. I mean, what do I know. But it's just really hard to believe. And it sucks that they barely explained anything regarding these 2 cases that have it. Also, isn't it supposed to be a Neuorologist who're supposed to explain TS not a Psychiatrist?
I just find it a bit troubling that they didn't explain anything about these 2 cases because it might give a very bad impression to people who're not aware or familiar with Tourettes which already has a bad image on media. People expect everyone with TS to curse or do huge movements.
Also have TS - as you know tics can affect all parts of you and your brain, I'm guessing these people might have a tic or something that triggers the part of the brain that starts rage attacks as it's very hard engrained in us with nature. Idk tho, there's probably an actual explanation.
Cameron to himself: Dont look at the camera. I AM SO SORRY
That made me cry so much, because he can't help it

Y r all the severe conditions of Tourette’s in children in Australia?
I know right? I just saw another video of a girl who was waaaaaay worse then these too. Pretty sure she was either from Australia or new Zealand
Grace Simm I was thinking this was strange also .🤔
I just thought the same thing
Grace simm Tourette’s syndrome is only diagnosed to people in Australia because of the pollution in the air and certain things in Australia
@@eyesomorty1710 your comment is retarded
Basically it turns you in to the hulk

You are so funny
Well, it’s nice to meet you Maddy….best wishes to you and your family
I relate to Cameron SO much its blowing my mind. I have Emotion Dysregulation Disorder and it is literally like he explained. Its like we are passengers in the back of our head when that rage hits and a completely different person takes over. Then the guilt afterwards...tremendous.
I feel so bad for these families I mean it’s heart breaking
Thank God I or my kids/grandkids didn't have this to this extent! I could not cope at all! My grandson had a very mild case at about a year old. He eventually outgrew it, thank God. I can't imagine the stress of parenting these kids. God bless them for persevering.
@Werner Ernst i also have tourettes but symptoms have improved but i also feel the same as u, i have head ticks and eyebrow ticks but no verbal and stiff so im pretty lucky but i feel the exact same as u
Devonte Willis Don’t worry, we feel bad for your family, not you.
I have mild tics(which is caused by either my ocd or anxiety) and you make me feel like im a freak. you feel bad for the families but you dont feel bad for the people who actually suffer from this? your sympathy should be thrown out the window❤
Edit: i meant mild not severe
@Devonte Willis ikr! Im tired of everyone pitying me and telling me that they wanna help me or wish they could “fix me” it’s annoying
I think marijuana would calm them down and make them feel happy. If it was my kid i would try it, what do you have to loose.
Nick j 100% agree. Need more people like you
My husband has touretts hes tried it now that its legalized it calms him down enough to sleep
the downside would be the decline in development at such a young age, again idk exactky if weed slows brain development so don’t take my word but def agree with you
I feel like it would be beneficial when they are older, but idk what it does to a body to a minor.
I think that is a good idea but I really wish something like this had a cure...this would only be temporary... :(
I can’t imagine what these kids go through they’re so strong I feel terrible for them

I got diagnosed with Tourette's when I was 9. Right around the time the parents divorced. It was pretty bad In adolescence. The ticks made my hands and joints swell. Noone understood. But now that I'm in my 40th year, it's almost non existent. Thank god it does often subside after adolescence. I feel for anyone struggling with Tourette's. It can be so painful and almost always misunderstood. 💜
It’s truly sad that these kids have to go through this.

*After watching one video this disability I'm watching more and more in an attempt to understand it, most videos made me cry because they're kids and they feel bad about the disability. Most wish they didn't have it at all.*
Same.
Watch the video about Bianca from Australia. She got DBS surgery and it worked amazingly to nearly diminish her tics completely. Very sad yet amazing story.
As a person with Tourette syndrome, I didn't know that tourettes can be that violent and severe.
Love you both! yous are amazing individuals.
This video made me realize so much. I did everything these kids did when I was young. Everyone told me I was just a bad kid luckily I don’t have the verbal Tourette’s but I would get random urges to say grab a hammer and smash a wall. I made the same chirping sound as Cameron did. I did the same blinking thing as Maddie causing massive headaches. I would get such terrible urges that I would break anything and everything in my path and then when my destruction was over I’d cry for hours after realizing what I did. And I remember in elementary school during tests or any kind of quiet time I would make sounds that I could not control no matter what I did. I would scream to such a high pitch at times I once broke a small shot glass. This video made me realize so much I wish I saw this sooner so I could tell my tinier self that I’m not a monster.
It's okay noodle juice... I acknowledge you ❤️
I can relate to the rage and ranting part myself.
That’s not Tourette’s that is pandas pandas
When cameron and the other sweet child hugged 🥺🥺🥺
It's must be really hard to watch your own child going throught this change of behaviour and knowing that your child just cant help it. Must be so hard for these children also. Thanks for sharing this with us so we can understand more. It's what i call being educated about something we know nothing about and we should not judge those parents and children.
