      and it wouldn't make sense for Parallas to not have bullet drop as it is otherwise entirely statistically identical to EM4 Longshot (NC) and RAMS .50M (TR), while all VS rifles that don't have bullet drop, loses some muzzle velocity in order to justified.
      The only sniper rifles that don't have bullet drop is VS semi-autos, i.e. VA39 Spectre, Phantom VA23, and Phaseshift VX-S in its both firing mode.

    Could it be argued that the lack of bullet drop might make suppressors (combined with SPA) more effective? (Though admittedly leading your shots on a moving target is arguably the bigger factor when it comes to hitting moving targets.)
    Also a strange thing, in my memory I recall using the RAMS .50 at much greater ranges in the distant past, with them bringing down the 1HK ranges and infantry render distances at some point; but that might partially be me misremembering things.

    • @Alliegator93

      rams .50 is able to headshot people on its 2nd or 3rd dot at about 400m which is render distance for infantry, and one shot them at that range too, suppressors are only effective on a few select guns, namely the recently changed directive smg's (shuriken and tempest for example) having access to hybrid suppressors, and the guns that do well with a suppressor tend to be guns that already have great velocity, like the soas/stalker/artemis, or the bull, or gauss saw

    Bullet drop kicks in as an important factor at the 200+ meter ranges. It's also usually raised specifically around sniper rifles. When running sniper rifles, factoring bullet travel time, and drop is one more extra factor than just factoring in travel time.
    For long range snipers bullet drop matters a lot. So yes, the premise that bullet drop doesn't matter in short range and medium range engagements is kind of moot to begin with. No one should be complaining about bullet drop at those ranges. Long range snipe fests are where you will feel it the most because ranges of 200+ meters become quite common.

    • @Dudisfludis
      @Dudisfludis  2 роки тому +8

      I'm not denying that there is bullet drop at those ranges. I am saying that at those ranges you are being an ineffective team player because of how non-impactful of a player you are being trying to snipe at people that are at those ranges, therefore you should not be fighting at those ranges. This means there is no reason you should be having to worry about bullet drop unless you are intentionally making yourself ineffective as player.

    Scopes are scams, just use /fp_fov # and you can get arbitrary magnification. (though it does magnify(not sure this is the "right" word) mouse sensitivity while active)
    (Scopes are not just scams, fp_fov does require opening chat and this takes away control however briefly. So not ideal for close quarters, but if you are somewhere you can stare down a 12x, might as well ditch the sway and use a 4x and make up the difference, or more, with fp_fov)
    Also at those ranges you are attacking player sanity/morale, in my personal experience being on the receiving end.
    Now if that should be a valid target is a different discussion
    I can say I have had a number of shots that looked like I predicted the head location right, but failed to dome because I clicked future head position rather than above it.
    For a less anecdotal statement, Mathematical balance matters little if it doesn't /Feel/ balanced to one or more involved sides. You could have a theoretical FPS where, all else mechanically identical, one side had a 1 damage gun and the other side had a 100 damage gun. If both sides miraculously /felt/ equally powered, it is, in that time and with those people, balanced.
    My understanding is that some guns can /feel/ better and more powerful (or the reverse) depending on sound design, such that a mechanically better gun /feels/ less effective than the mechanically worse one with better sounds/visuals.

    • @pointmansf
      @pointmansf 2 роки тому

      Gun "feel" on firing had always been mostly about the SFX.
      You may be on to something there, I played Quake Team Fortress and QII weapons factory mods for over a decade, Sniper class never had zoom. You just shot for the actual one pixel that was the head hit box at range. I used to play with FoV 115 and it was manageable but FoV is not magnification per se. Also scopes are what, 50 certs lol?
      And last but not least, the TR Dragoon battle rifle. Heavy alpha, no damage falloff. And with that thing I've literally held off the target so much it was off scope.
      VS Has always been the "seems awesome, really tho needs a buff" since Planetside 1 which I was a vet for many years. PS2 they made some of the weapons including a Sniper rifle or two -Not Consume Ammo-, and that's going too far. If I'm the last Infil to spawn on a router up in a tree or something before it gets destroyed, without an engy up there I'll be out of ammo and have to rotate out from that treetop. This is why you often see Vanu infils way up in trees or other spots only a bailout will get you.

    • @pointmansf
      @pointmansf 2 роки тому

      Also FoV actually shouldn't be increasing zoom or mouse sens at all. Since normal is 90, how high are you setting it that it's becoming a problem? At fov 100, you have 10 degrees X and Y extra to traverse, but field of view has a set time at say 1.0 sens that it takes the player to freelook/aim 360 degrees.
      Also I would say try FoV hikes, at around 115-125 the fisheye lens effect gets really nutty but your target should be nice and cartoonishly prominent, also anything not at your target's range and heading will be smaller so for me FoV was always about target's standing out and other TOI's all getting minned until aimed at.

    • @Thk10188965
      @Thk10188965 2 роки тому

      @@pointmansf So changing the FoV may not be changing sensitivity, but when go from seeing in a 100 degree cone to a 10 degree cone, one degree of rotation feels like a lot more. my normal FoV is 100, my two goto 'zoom' FoVs are 30 and 10.
      I would preferably have my sensitivity be a percent of my vision cone such that if I see something on the side of my screen it is always the same amount of mouse movement to look at it, regardless of how many degrees.
      Yea it really isn't about the cost of scopes, but some weapons don't get big ones (or any) and scopes over 4x add sway. Though I disagree about FoV not being zoom, at least in terms of what I want out of a scope. Making the target more pixels on my screen

    The issue comes into play with the dmr/semi auto snipers like the obelisk. It lets you shoot through small gaps as if its a point and click game. You also only compared TR to vanu, NC tend to have some very slow velocities. I've noticed drop early on nc weapons. Bullet velocity determines the drop.

      No, velocity does not determine drop. Also, one of NC's faction traits is higher velocities.

    • @Dudisfludis
      @Dudisfludis  2 роки тому +1

      I literally addressed this issue directly in the video. The obelisk does not have bullet drop, this is true. You're ignoring the point in the video that, even though something like the obelisk does not have bullet drop, it is not effective at ranges where normal bullet drop would be applied purely due to how many bullets are missed because of bullet travel time. Also it is semi-auto which means you have to hit multiple shots on the same target to get a kill unless that target is somehow otherwise damaged from something else and you land a lucky headshot. This just means you will be even more inaccurate purely due to how many bullets you need to fire to get kills at those ranges considering how many you're already missing.
      To your point of NC having slower velocities, all 3 battle rifles (Dragoon, Obelisk, Bishop) have the same velocity, so that point isn't relevant when you're talking about those battle rifles.

    The "no bullet drop" thing is obviously not an issue at close range. You're also shooting stationary targets... that's not a good way to test this at all. The issue is with weapons like the obelisk that can be spammed from like 300 meters with no need to find the right tick mark to compensate for bullet drop. I partially agree with the "being ineffective at this range" comment - EXCEPT when using something like an obelisk, because you can spam that out to render range with zero consequences and still consistently farm kills. You completely avoided demonstrating the effectiveness of a VS weapon with no bullet beyond 200 meters, probably because that would have exposed the lack of logic in your statement.

      Ok, so there's a few things to unpack here.
      1) Shooting at stationary targets for a demonstration is a lot better at showing the actual drop of a bullet rather than trying to pick it apart in a live situation because it is controlled with no variation. Again, the demonstration was just about the distance at which bullet drop actually effects the bullets.
      2) The "issue" with the obelisk has already been addressed, and you clearly did not watch the video. At ranges where normal bullet drop would be applied, you are already ineffective as a player considering how many shots you need to kill someone with any battle rifle.
      3) Again, the term that you have used, "spamming", is appropriate considering how many shots someone will miss out at those ranges so thank you for indirectly agreeing with me here that a person doing this is ineffective even though you thought this was a point against my video.
      4) I did not avoid demonstrating the VS weapons because there was no demonstration to be had when we are talking about bullet drop.
      5) "That would have exposed the lack of logic in your statement."
      Ok, so given that you did not watch the video, or just didn't understand it at all, let me try to understand your "logic."
      You say that the Obelisk can be "spammed" out at these ranges, ignoring that every other battle rifle and semi-auto sniper rifle is spammed at these ranges as well. However, you lack the logic to see that this is just the point that I have already made in the video that, at these absurdly long ranges, you will need to inevitably "spam" rounds to hit and kill targets no matter what battle rifle or sniper rifle you're using on any faction. Another side note to add is that even if you do want to snipe at those ranges, for some stupid reason or another, once you know how much your bullet drops you then do not need to guess after every single shot how much drop you have. Therefore, you automatically compensate for the bullet drop anyway which means you are shooting without bullet drop effecting your shots in any way which means, according to you, "you can spam that out to render range with zero consequences and still consistently farm kills."
      Apparently your "logic" is taking what I have already said, repeating it, and acting like it is somehow a point against me meanwhile explaining exactly what I said in the video which is, again, that at these ranges it does not matter if you have to compensate for bullet drop or not, you are just being completely ineffective and barely doing anything to impact a fight. Let alone help your team in any way.
      Thank you for being one of the people I made this video for and still missing the point of it.
