Also, Any resistance against dotting was only for the application of a dot... 300 res would have meant 80% resist but once the dot was applied, it did 100% of it's dmg. At least that is what I remember from how it used to be
I didnt know you b4 that tournament preparation started, that was so fun to watch, the journey. I like your takes on the game, keep having fun my dude!
@ziqo This isnt the way it was in 2019 classic Vanilla. I had a warlock with nearly 300 resist gear sets in nearly every element. I would never get affected by locks or shadowpriests when I wore mine. I found myself needing to use it while farming elemental water in azshara because of all the priests farming that area. Same with nature for druid/sham. That is totally not working as intended.
Source is memory. NO spreadsheets or websites clips or footage for vanilla. You could probably go back to TBC forums if they are archived and find complaints of shadow res being used in arenas in TBC.
In vanilla, I had the black book (bwl warlock pet trinket) as it was back then, it made a demonology felhunter capable of soloing casters due to its obscene resistances.

Getting partial resists based off the RNG of whether or not the first tick of the DoT resisted damage just doesn't sound right. That's like reaching into one of two buckets blindfolded -- 1 filled with gold and 1 filled with mustard, and after sticking your hand in the bucket filled with mustard (based off of RNG,) Blizzard just takes away the bucket filled with gold and you just gotta keep dipping your hand in mustard now. Lol. Great explanation vid and performance throughout the tourney tho Ziqo! New fan here!
Came here from the asmon clip! BIG Props to this vid dude ! really nice to see how you did the set up! keep it on ! you are definitely one of he coolest nicest wow streamers out there! Greetings from Switzerland!
@@l.a.w.5738 pretty sure it's just how the snapshot mechanic works. When applying a dot, it will check against the resistance of the target. If the first tick isn't resisted at all, it will continue for the rest of the dot without being resisted, as the first tick cleared the resistance and it snapshots the rest of the dot. If the first tick is resisted, the rest of the ticks will 'roll' against the targets resistance, again, snapshotting the initial application perameters
Partial resists can 100% happen mid dot. I remember it happening lots on my night elf vs poison ticks from mobs. I remember this, because I wondered for the longest time why I was resisting, cause I forgot night elves have NR.
@@TimeTraveler-hk5xo Warlock main for all my life here. It's not a thing at all with warlock dots. Once you get a DoT applied, it will never fall off, nor will any ticket get resistance.
Binary and non-binary spell... It's a 20years old knowledge. SW:P (Like all DoTs) is a binary spell, with his gear he has something like +80% resist on the application ( we see that the priest is almost oom when he managed to apply the dot on Ziqo). But once it is apply it's 100% damage per tick. A binary spell (with an effect other than damage like Death Coil and Mind Flay or Frostbolt which applies a slow or a fear + All Dots) its damage is "all or nothing". Non-binary spell (direct damage and not apply an other effect) can be reduce. This difference is particularly visible in mage between the frostbolt (binary) and the fireball (non-binary). It's always been like this on vanilla.

Bro buying and deleting the frost rings made me crack up, that is some next lvl crazy hahaha I commend you for going that hard for this tournament what a absolute chad
The mind blast partial resists always worked like that. The difference with frost bolts is that when a spell has a slow/cc even partly they don't partial resist but either miss or hit for full. Mana burn feels like an oversight and dots seem just bugged tho... I wonder why ppl weren't using frost resistance sets against mages tho since that should work fairly well but maybe they'd just lack damage and you don't rly need it on lock.
As a Warlock main in Vanilla I'm sure this is how resists worked back then too. You could definitely build gear sets to counter casters using other damage types because non-DoT spells would frequently fully resist but DoTs would apply and tick just fine. It did make it generally pointless to cast shadow bolts but that is all.
DoT application is supposed to be binary but the ticks could never partially resist. That's how it was in original Vanilla. In Classic however, DoTs have been bugged with resistances since it came out... :(

I don't know if that freewheeling joy can come back (for myself, no. For you?) but u have that ambition and killer instinct that set Kobe (cheesy? fuck em. parmesan) apart. Maybe the tournament gave that to u, maybe u had it all along, maybe ur fried, maybe this is just the beginning... Same animal, similar beast, and then the duels?! Chef's. Fucking. Kiss. We'd fuck around with a dust or two to get an edge for fun and chucking grenades to kill nerds was both try hard and elite, but this scene... This mage... Nothing like this existed b4. I don't think Snutz redefined Warlock gaming, these other players were very fucking good, but to my eyes, there are Priests, Warlocks, Mages, Hunters, Rogues... And Ziqo. Give this man 13,000 bucks Can u come back? Or can u only move on? Idk bro but the last few months have been ur Mona Lisa 🫵💅👐
Hi all. I did these kind of things too, like all of what he is saying, except for other items, but i spent days, months, hours.....and hours in months to get stuff that has also like 0,2% chance. I never gave a shit about pvp about WoW back when I played. I had a 15 year break and I still don’t give a shot about it. But man am I enjoying seeing you loving it and try so hard 👌💪💪
To be fair, while I can't say for sure with the DoT's, all the other spells he showed are working as intended. There are two different resist tables that spells can roll against. Binary spells, typically ones with bonus effects, have their hit rate reduced by resistances but if they hit always hit for full damage. Meanwhile, pure damage spells will have their damage reduced by an average amount by resistances in 25% increments. This was only changed in Wrath of the Lich King. Resists worked this way all the way through TBC as far as I know. Damage over Time does seem bugged though. The fact that SW;P seemed to have normal hit-rate and also deal full damage is definitely not the intended behavior.
Weird it should have worked! Your strategy would have worked in the past very strange... The application of the dots should also be resisting more... however as far as I know the ticking of damage over time effects will always do full damage no matter your resistance. Partial resist is only for direct damage spells like shadow bolt. Well played on the tournament!
no he does show damage from dots partial resisting, but it is RNG whether it can roll for it. Sometimes a dot will never have partially resisted ticks and will never check for them, sometimes it will.
Damn! Impressive Ziqo. Blizzard should compensate you for all the gp you spend acquiring the shadow resist set. And compensate you or make an NPC of you in game if it is indeed a bug on their part. Blizzard probably did not anticipate somebody able to gather all the gear you farmed and equipped it all at once. Then after resist mechanics is fixed there should be a rematch with Blizzard putting up the purse prize for the contest.
Just wanted to say mate i didnt like watching your content due to streamer privlages but seeing how you played through the tournament i was definitley wrong and you gained a fan and a sub, amazing work mate
Dot is binary cast, it's either you resist it completely when being casted or you take the dot cast and take all the dot ticks. Unfortunately, that's how it works in era. Also, when you are res capped its still a chance of 75%, so you will 'probably' get 1 of 4 dot casts. So mathematically it's better to go around ~120 shadow res and stack pen, and spell power. So this seems like really somewhere in between era and tbc and has to be fixed.
Just watched Asmon react to this on his channel but I'm now going to let the whole thing play all the way through in the background here too just for the algorithm. Ziqo deserves it!.
I aways knew something is wrong with shadow damage and shadow resist, but never tried to test it. Thank you Ziqo for confirm it! After I watch that video I wonder if holy resist will help agaist shadow damage.
For what it's worth, you could resist an initial dot application in vanilla for sure. i was a sweaty shadow priest and warlocks annoyed me, so I'd have shadow reflector, shadow prot, some other stuff but nowhere near cap and still regularly resist. you could always partially resist dots, this was part of why sp's were so weak to locks specifically. 0 idea when it was changed
Spell hit has always been separate to resistances, at least in classic. If you're relying on vanilla tech this late in the game that's kind of on you xD love your work though, big props, GG duels. The DoT interaction with partial resistances relying on the first tick definitely sounds like a very typical classic bug though yeah.

@@romnesia7729 that’s weird I thought you were aloud to change them in combat in classic
This was such a great strat and you're amazing. Then you said you bought all the cold resist rings and sold them... It was at that point I subbed. Legend.
Man...the sweatiness on top of the skill is why youre one of the GOATs
This video was so inspiring tbh lol. You’re a monster bro! Great plan and tenacity. Sucks it didn’t work
I'm really impressed with all the side hustles you did to get your char ready for the tourney.
Most of that gold was given to him because of his status. Not a free and fair tournament. Only those with 100s of helpers stood a chance.
sounds like real life tournaments wow!@@mattk2308
@@mattk2308I don’t think any of the competitors even had the skill to keep up with ziqo and snutz. Ziqo’s sweat was purely for snutz anyways. All the other competitors were never gonna make it skill wise
You’re the GOAT. Insane efforts for the tournament, tip of the cap to you and all the other constituents that helped you grind.
I love to see how sweaty you approached the tournament :p
I know of another bug back when WoD came out (I think), they had to downscale health and with it came some bad coding where I as a level 19 twink frost mage could literally kill a max level bis geared player with 4 to 5 frostbolts.
Also, Any resistance against dotting was only for the application of a dot... 300 res would have meant 80% resist but once the dot was applied, it did 100% of it's dmg.
At least that is what I remember from how it used to be
Wow.
Every PvP battle I've been in has always been a DPS race.
This is NEXT level!
I didnt know you b4 that tournament preparation started, that was so fun to watch, the journey. I like your takes on the game, keep having fun my dude!
Outstanding video dude. Great info for the developers to improve the next iteration of classic!!
Yem all the way up to season 4 TBC also.
Source? Any clip or footage or you just making it up
Source is memory. NO spreadsheets or websites clips or footage for vanilla. You could probably go back to TBC forums if they are archived and find complaints of shadow res being used in arenas in TBC.
@@zz10arfYeah but op talking about 2019 classic
In vanilla, I had the black book (bwl warlock pet trinket) as it was back then, it made a demonology felhunter capable of soloing casters due to its obscene resistances.
idk out of everyone in that tournament, you were the best to watch. I never heard about you until 2 weeks into the OTK tourney and now i watch you everyday lol
Mak'gora MVP award right here for dedication and excellence in prep work. Including a (possible) 🐞 report contribution on a core aspect of the game. 👏
Holy smokes....this tournament was definitely super hardcore and only for the best!
Only for streamers that have mass amounts of people helping them and giving them gold n gear you mean...
@@ogjuggalo4671 Look, I understand and sympathize with your jealousy, believe me I do, but you have to understand: Nobody whose ever made it big did it solely on their own effort alone.
@@MastaGambit lol all which stream you a fan girl of that made that comment hurt your feels that much, did they give you a mustache ride? it's cute tho seeing men simp over someone that plays video games all day
I cannot imagine the thousands of gallons of sweat that went into this tournament.
I would have loved to see the melee mage pulverizing his opponents
Shadow res def used to have partial resist on dot’s. I remember vividly fighting Shadow Priest, & SL/SL Warlocks comps in 2’s in season one in TBC and it was a 100% a counter & there was nothing they could do, early on when that comp was OP in season one before any of these changes.
Ziqo: I spent 100s of hours preparing to fight snutz after spending thousands of gold
Snutz: Maybe i should get an intellect elixir just incase.
Amazing how deep your strategy went. Big respect.
Very interesting video! thanks for making it Ziqo
Mad props!! Love all the homework and how you went into the think tank! You've gained yourself a sub! #EUBOYS
I'm like 90% sure there was partial DoT resist damage back in Vanilla. Thats brutal.
100% sure, I am classic r14 on warrior and WL and it was def a thing
This needs to be a PSA for those Reddit’s crying about it being rigged!
yeah this little men crying on reddit dont understand how many hours and start ziqo and snutz (and other) put on this tournament.
is like "ouinnn ouinnnn im stronger than ziqo and snutz but i dont have community for help me and gold" pffff this guy got delete like you slap a mosquito on the wall xD
He also put in those hours dummy, but he was nerfed cause he didn't have people carrying him through dungeons and giving him thousands of gold, what about that does your peabrain not understand?@@arnaudnono951
@@arnaudnono951 the point of their argument wasnt that its rigged. it was that really only streamers who can mobilize alot of assistance are able to even partake in the tourne. no one said these guys are lazy or bad at the game but if ziqo didnt have the insane amount of help that he did he would have 1/5th the gear he showed off in this vid. i mean i don't really care i have full time job not even a lvl 40 char yet and i started before tourney.
Holy shit, Ziqo living in a sauna sweating so much.
Omg that twilight scroll story is amazing
Aw would have loved to see that. Also wish I could see a melee mage DPS check with full coolies and consumes
DoT application is supposed to be binary but the ticks could never partially resist. That's how it was in original Vanilla.
In Classic however, DoTs have been bugged with resistances since it came out... :(
Huge pity it didn't work. We got denied an epic spectacle to remember all life long. Hats off for the idea and the effort.
man respect to be that patient, crazy work you put in there, appreciate it
still proud of you brother
Im still convinced that in a 50/50 fight Ziqo will sink Snutz. Unlucky final matchup.. (and no i am not Ziqo fan)
Doubtful. Both are equally skilled, and warlock still takes that matchup.
@@damnoh2940…
I'm new to wow, currently playing retail for 3 months. This is crazy to me, applaud the hustle.
Lmao the sweat was unreal, such dedication, I love it.
yoo ziqo me and my brother were rooting for you, favorite in our eyes. we even had a nickname for you "the pet killer". legendary performance, for me personally you're a big reason why this here tournament was the best competitive wow i've ever watched
Really clever line of thinking, for sure. Yo, I was a r13 (1wk from 14, weapons weren't worth it remember? xd) mage, I remember getting fucked by warlocks, we had shadow res from aq40, that shit sucked... But despite my equivocation, you are the same animal but an unspeakable horror of a beast. A mage who has died and reborn a thousand times. Loved watching u play b4 u got assassinated by the CIA in gurubashi arena because I remember what it was like to have engi at just enough to get rocket helm and rocking the level 40 mount alllll the way to rank 11 bc I just wanted to pvp. And Ziqo. Give this man 13,000 bucks
Can u come back? Or can u only move on? Idk bro but the last few months have been ur Mona Lisa 🫵💅👐
My man was born a hustler! Mad respect
Hi all. I did these kind of things too, like all of what he is saying, except for other items, but i spent days, months, hours.....and hours in months to get stuff that has also like 0,2% chance. Though I must say I was a bit more lucky then this guy I think. Much respect though, but you are not the only one! I want to send this guy a personal message how much respect I have for him. omg
I had wondered why you didn't pull out a shadow resist set. Now you're showing us that you're way ahead of the rest of us mortals.
OMG I love this content so much. Things behind the screen is always attractive.
I never gave a shit about pvp about WoW back when I played. I had a 15 year break and I still don’t give a shot about it. But man am I enjoying seeing you loving it and try so hard 👌💪💪
Classic era just keeps on giving. The classic content has been awesome.
Sad that it didn't work out, but the dedication is impressive ☺️☺️
learned so much about this game watching you during this tournament bro its been a blast liked and sub
Buying And deleting the frost resistance rings made me LMFAO.
The way people navigate this game is so fascinating. Love it
D4 has broken resists and now WoW has broken resists. Bravo Blizzard
Now? This shit is 15 years old
To be fair, while I can't say for sure with the DoT's, all the other spells he showed are working as intended.
Man? Your prep/studies? 4ME? You won this Tournament! Hands down to Ziqo! „Salute“
Wow man unlucky. Had no idea you went this deep. From sheer effort alone you deserved the $50K. Props to u Ziqo.
Snutz went deeper
We need to see this build working on a private server or something.
The duel would have been LEGENDARY.
this prepwork breakdown was more interesting than the actual tournament
gotta respect the hustle, well done Ziqo
WOW !!!! i have no words! epic, it would be so cool to see working right

So fun to see one of my favorite wow players since wrath still being so fkn good. Nice to see it working out great for you Ziqo 😁👍🏼
ziqo you are a DEMON buying res gear just to destroy it 🐐
That is messed up. Man, I would have loved to see the melee mage thing 😆
Damn that absolutely sucks! U definitely put in the work thats for sure, u deserved the win in my opinion
Great vid brother, if you can i just wanna see you melee the pet down with that staff and the flask would be great :D
❤️
I aways knew something is wrong with shadow damage and shadow resist, but never tried to test it. Thank you Ziqo for confirm it!
After I watch that video I wonder if holy resist will help agaist shadow damage.
Broo, im there. that's my character. 0:37
Some Oceans Eleven type strat 😂
For what it's worth, you could resist an initial dot application in vanilla for sure. i was a sweaty shadow priest and warlocks annoyed me, so I'd have shadow reflector, shadow prot, some other stuff but nowhere near cap and still regularly resist. you could always partially resist dots, this was part of why sp's were so weak to locks specifically. 0 idea when it was changed
I didn't watch the whole tournament but the one thing I knew was that I'd see you in the finals. GG.
Jesus the amount of prep that went into this is absurd. My hats off to you mate, fantastic job. I'm sorry it didnt work for you, but at the end of the day i still think Snutz played better and deserved the win
