3:00 voidwalker has something CALLED “taunt” but it does not taunt in the native sense. You very quickly learn that the voidwalker gets super outpaced by even just curses and wanding which is where drain tanking comes from and why it’s important to only expect the walker to hold mobs ur not hitting or a mob until it’s around half hp.
Its called torment and it's actually a single target spell that deals minuscule damage, but that damage has upscaled threat generation similar to shield slam or heroic strike. The real disadvantage comes from the fact that it has no snap aggro like an actual taunt, meaning it still has to compete with others in an aggro table and since it is a spell, it gets resisted quite a bit. You also have to keep it upgraded or else the voidwalker won't be able to keep up with the casters dmg and pet abilities are expensive, hence why their lv40 mount is free of cost. As someone that has leveled like.. 10 different classic warlocks, the rotation usually consists on sending the walker in, tormenting once, corruption and affliction then wand, immolate depending on the threat generation.
I watched it yesterday on twitch. You got so distracted by everything, anything. Keep watching the map, minimap and follow the quest log. Be careful when you run clueless thru the zone, keep scrolled out and be aware of your surroundings.

when you were asking about how to press bindings while moving, this would have been a good time to tell you that you can move your character while holding down both mouse buttons, which is how most people execute advanced movement while pressing other binds with your left hand. you will learn how to seamlessly switch between wasd movement and mouse movement when needed.
Yo ! you can bind all your instant damaging abilities on your mouse's binds so you can have your left hand free to move ! keep your casting spells on keyboard because you simply just can't walk when casting. You can bind the scrolldown AND up too, with all possible modifiers (shift/control/alt) it's 20 different binds on a standard gaming mouse. Just a nice thing to do ! also you can debind your "move backward" bind ( usually S), you can just move with W and the strafe, you'll get used to it quickly :) Anyway love the content and i hope you'll have fun on your journey !
Hey Grubby i noticed you like to learn about the small nuances of the game. Here's a breakdown of some of the nuances and what class I recommend you should play. Mana Regeneration: every 2 seconds you will gain a tick of mana, this tick timer can never be shortened only the magnitude of each tick can be improved. 5 Second rule: The 5 second rule is the rule that applies to mana regeneration every time you SPEND MANA and the 5 second timer will start (this means that when casting a spell only when you finish the spell it will spend mana, and spells that channel use the mana from the moment you click the spell). You can strategize around this rule, by using only the spells you need in order to kill the mob at the very beginning of the fight, this way by the end of the fight as you let the mob rot from your dots and wand your mana will begin regenerating again, saving you time from drinking water and such. Spells: There are two types of spells "binary" and "non binary". Binary spells are spells that can only have two outcomes ie "Fear". Fear only has two outcomes, either the spell will apply fear, or the target will resist the spell completely, you cannot "partially" resist fear. Non binary spells are spells that can be reduced in magnitude partially, such as Shadow bolt. Non-binary spells can either deal full damage, or deal reduced damage or be completely resisted as well. The chances of the spell being partially or fully resisted depends on the targets "shadow" resistance and level (target higher level than the player = higher resist chances). This roughly means that for when a non-binary spell is partially resisted, a binary spell would be instead fully resisted, thus making binary spells have a smaller chance at actually hitting your target. In the case of when a spell has both a binary and non-binary effect, the binary spell interactions will overwrite the entire spell. SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: YES Weapon and Defense Skills: Every level you gain increases you weapon and defense skill caps by 5, however you still need to level up those skills after you level up. Each auto attack against a monster has a chance to level up your weapon skill (each weapon type has its own weapon skill that needs to be leveled up as well). Defense skills have a chance to level up from each attack you receive. This applies to mobs you are fighting as well, their defense and weapon skill caps will always be at 5*(their level), just like the player. Why this is important, because if your weapon skill is lower than your opponent your chance to glance/miss an attack will be higher. and vice versa, if your weapon skill is higher than your opponents defense skill your chance to hit will be higher, as well as crit chance will be higher. These rules also apply to mobs (if the mob is a higher level than you their hit and crit chance is also be higher than normal) Baseline crit chance is 5%, baseline miss chance is also 5%. Spells do not have weapon skills, you can assume a "spell skill" will be the same as the cap for your current level. SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: NO (Warlock can play around defense skill) White attacks and Yellow attacks: White attacks are auto attacks, that can miss + glance. Yellow attacks are abilities that can miss but cannot glance. Glancing blows are partial attacks for physical white damage. Ranged white damage cannot glance. SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: NO Auto Attacks: The moment you right click an enemy you will begin the weapon swing timer. Your dagger is 1.6 seconds (that is the weapon swing timer) When walking to the mob if it takes 1.6 seconds or longer to reach melee range you will immediately strike your opponent, then the swing timer will repeat as expected. Whenever you use a "magical spell" the swing timer will reset. This means if you are 1 second into your swing timer and you only have .6 seconds left to strike your opponent, but if you use a "magical spell" at that moment you will interrupt the swing timer and after the spell is casted you will strike the opponent once again after 1.6 seconds. "Combat spells" do no reset the swing timer on your auto attacks. Warlocks for the most part DO NOT have "combat spells". SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: NO (wands are automatic, but must be casted, so these rules will not apply to you wand.) There are still tons of more smaller things you can find out about Classic wow, but these ones I find really show you what to expect with the coding of this game. I recommend you go Orc Shaman as an orc Shaman will take advantage of all of these nuances the most. Even if this is too much information to soak in at one time, Shaman is still very playable for a new player.
It is such an odd experience to see someone I mostly watch for his knowledge historically in WC3 or HOTS, being this lost in a game I know so well. Of course you are, cause you are new! The big surprise is really how much of WoW is second nature to someone like me who has played since release. Thanks for this content, it was great fun
Not me just sitting here watching the whole thing over an hour and be amazed how a lot of this "standard"stuff is not know by a pro player by grubby. WoW shaped a lot of us hahah. Awesome to see. Can't wait for the 21st onward :D
Actually there is two benefits to jumping in combat.. 1) you continue your movement as you hit an instant spell while kiting due to momentum. 2) if a mob or warrior charges you. And there’s a root effect you can create a small gap for kiting. More useful for pvp scenarios but there are benefits
This was so awesome seeing someone learn how to play wow for the first time! Classic is the best place to start imo. I usually recommend Mage being the easiest class for new players but I also say just pick whichever class appeals to you the most. My reasoning behind Mage being the easiest for new players is because you don't have to worry about pet management or changing stances. Not that those are super complicated but it's just a little less overwhelming. But hey my first class was a Dwarf Hunter and I insisted on meleeing so I could be up close with my pet lol. One time a Warrior was so mad at me for meleeing he challenged me to a duel after a dungeon to show me Hunters aren't as good as Warriors at meleeing and I popped Beastial Wrath and beat him 😂 that's the day I decided pvp was the funnest part of the game.
Am actually excited to see Grubby progress through the game and improve over time. It's intriguing seeing a completely new player that has no MMORPG experience in WoW.
I really enjoyed your stream yesterday! I just hope the backseat gaming from Twitch chat doesn’t bother you too much. I really appreciate how you approach learning new games, and I’m confident you’ll get really good at WoW in no time!
The jumping has many benefits since u jump in a certain direction u keep ur force of momentum and can turn 180 in jump do a feks "frost shock" then turn back continue towards ur desired direction.
Very interesting to watch grubby play wow! Glad you chose classic, it's the best version. I think you should also try the PvP version of the game on the server Fengus' Ferocity after your HC escapades, it's a lot of fun!
59:30 Lol that homm system is so cool but also sometimes so dangerous, thank goodness for the mods these days that let you know the range of them cause man. nothing like ending a good run of homm3 cause you forgot how devastating a Throng was
Threat- Many things produce threat, Attacks-Heals-Being Close to attract it. Most abilities deal threat, as for Voidwalker- His Attacks Deal Moderate Threat, but not actually a "Taunt". Taunt is a specific "HEY LOOK AT ME" Used by Tanks- Warrior, Druid, Paladin (you won't use/play with Paladins they are Alliance only, and you're Horde). And Hunter Class also has a Pet, and it uses "Growl" which ""deals moderate threat"" as it were. So as say a Druid Tank, they can so a self heal (HOT- or Heal Over Time) and then go into bear form/tank mode, then they get extra threat for hitting + healing aggro. If you pull a pack, and you don't do Something to the other mobs, and a heal goes off, they mobs will run to the Healer cause they have the "universal threat", because you haven't (as a tank) done anything to the mobs (abilities like a ""Shout"" or a ""Cleave"" type thing).
Picking Lock is the best choice my man. Leveling is much easier as a lock, and also very fun since it is one of the few classes in classic where you can pull more than 1 mob, and do dmg to more than 1 mob since it's a dot class. Also you not needing mana since you Life Tap mostly, opens you to just getting gear with Stamina which is super important in HC wow as it makes you tankier (you can take more hits) also you can life tap more. Also warlock has a niche of stealing life with a spell called Drain Life, which you will be using most of the time, and then you life tap, so you do dmg and steal life (heal) and then convert that hp to mana with life tap, and you repeat that.
Knowing how much health your target has can be the difference between life and death - some enemies are stronger than their level suggests, and you can get a sense of how strong an enemy is by how much health they have.
Leveled plenty of shamans over the years and always landed on 1h and shield for 90% of the time with 2h on swap. Knowing your quests really helps the pacing.
18:62 Default situation: you are being battle rezzed during a raid eccounter, all your buffs are gone, some of them are usefull enough to refresh (spending GCD and mana) , some of them are not. I don't see Demon Skin in 1st group.
This brings back memories! I'm horde Only player! All classes are fun! LVL with a partner can really help when you pull to many mobs. Warrior shaman is Dope! Especially when the shaman learns Windfury and later can place a totem for it. This can give the Warrior Windfury as well. Windfury has a chance to give you a extra strike with bonus damage! Giving a warrior Windfury is amazing BC, warriors need Rage to use any abilities. They get Rage dealing damage or taking Damage. Having Windfury is like having a double swing or simply gaining Rage twice as fast. I have amazing memorys with my friend buffing my warrior shammy combo while lvling. Warlock it's a lot of fun! You can do the hybrid spec where you spec the first six talent points into demonology. This can buff the threat capabilities of your pets. And then the rest of your talent points could go into affliction for your damage over time effects like your your immolation. Play a warlock you kind of learn to be like the puppet Master because you can fear monsters or learn the ability to unfair the monsters so that they don't aggro additional targets. When you start to understand the Warlock you realize you become the puppet master and controlling your pet yourself and the mobs around you. It's hard to describe this but you could probably find speedrunners or or you can find warlock leveling guides. My favorite thing for warlock is making sure it's a tailor and enchanter. These are two jobs that can help you make money and also benefit your character while doing dungeons or when you're picking up cloths killing mobs. Because when you become a tailor you can make your own gear. This way you can always keep yourself up to date even when you're out in the field. And the enchanters very handy because you can buff your gear with permanent stat boosts. And then when you do dungeons there's even better quality stuff for your enchanting would need to buff the gear. Warlocks are very beneficial for dungeons. Is not just their pet they can use them for DPS or they can tank if need be if the tank dies you have your voidwalker. Or if things are going sour you could AOE fear to try and recuperate the group. Meaning of something's going south people need to run away or the tank needs a break or the healer is getting jumped on you can always fear this can be a double-edged sword.
Grubby, as a long time veteran player, I suggest you move your player and target frame closer to the center of your screen, you dont want to get used to looking at the top left to see important info, you want it all centered. Best to get used to it now, honestly surprised Soda didnt tell you about it.
27:10 Soda doesn't know about ranged and melee attacks having separate swing timers, allowing for essentially melee weaving. Staves are nice for this since they are usually slow enough to allow for two wand shots every melee swing, making it a bit less micro intensive. You might say that the damage is low and not worth the micro, just think about how you're already using DoTs that don't do a ton of initial damage but a lot over time. Wand + melee weaving is basically the same thing.
Do not be led astray grubby...Go priest! Healers are life. YOU HOLD EVERYONES LIFE IN YOUR HANDS. You have all the power, they NEED you. They will beg you to join their groups. Drink the demon blood and go priest!

I just move "forward" one key over to E instead of W. Opens up many keybinds.
when you were asking about how to press bindings while moving, this would have been a good time to tell you that you can move your character while holding down both mouse buttons, which is how most people execute advanced movement while pressing other binds with your left hand. you will learn how to seamlessly switch between wasd movement and mouse movement when needed.
I just recently started watching you for Warcraft content, very excited you are joining OnlyFangs!
Yo ! you can bind all your instant damaging abilities on your mouse's binds so you can have your left hand free to move ! keep your casting spells on keyboard because you simply just can't walk when casting. You can bind the scrolldown AND up too, with all possible modifiers (shift/control/alt) it's 20 different binds on a standard gaming mouse. Just a nice thing to do ! also you can debind your "move backward" bind ( usually S), you can just move with W and the strafe, you'll get used to it quickly :)
Anyway love the content and i hope you'll have fun on your journey !
this probably looked like my gameplay back when i started playing this game, now 19 years later my eyes absolutely bleed from watching this :D
This is awesome hope you guys show the whole process I'd love to see grubby recognize places from wc3 in wow
"When i left you, i was but the learner; now i am the master."
I swear you two playing Warcraft or WoW are probably the best thing i can watch on youtube in these days blessed be
so awesome to see someone new experiencing this masterpiece of a game. i was feeling really entertained watching you bro
SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: YES
Weapon and Defense Skills: Every level you gain increases you weapon and defense skill caps by 5, however you still need to level up those skills after you level up.
These rules also apply to mobs (if the mob is a higher level than you their hit and crit chance is also be higher than normal)
Baseline crit chance is 5%, baseline miss chance is also 5%.
Spells do not have weapon skills, you can assume a "spell skill" will be the same as the cap for your current level.
SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: NO (Warlock can play around defense skill)
White attacks and Yellow attacks: White attacks are auto attacks, that can miss + glance. Yellow attacks are abilities that can miss but cannot glance.
Glancing blows are partial attacks for physical white damage. Ranged white damage cannot glance.
SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: NO
Auto Attacks: The moment you right click an enemy you will begin the weapon swing timer.
SHAMAN: YES / WARLOCK: NO (wands are automatic, but must be casted, so these rules will not apply to you wand.)
There are still tons of more smaller things you can find out about Classic wow, but these ones I find really show you what to expect with the coding of this game.
Thanks for this content, it was great fun
i hope you keep playing that game dude cause i'd like to see you improve after a while it would be a nice journey to watch
29:43 when soda realized what a rts players recognize as a valid keybind :D
Grubby yessss please join us on the classic journey!!
That was really fun to watch! hope to see more Grubby in wow ;)
Please do not stop uploading this series I love this
Did Grubby find the fountain of youth? he looks exactly the same 2 decades later 😂
Not me just sitting here watching the whole thing over an hour and be amazed how a lot of this "standard"stuff is not know by a pro player by grubby. WoW shaped a lot of us hahah. Awesome to see. Can't wait for the 21st onward :D
The grubby + soda collabs are a match made in heaven. I am so pumped for Onlyfangs.
soda was part of the bullying that made reckful suicide, this guy is insufferable.. wow guys reallly became brainrotted more than anyone else
Omg this is amazing. Long time wow player and Soda fan, new Grubby fan and WC3 Reforged player. So happy :)
Actually there is two benefits to jumping in combat.. 1) you continue your movement as you hit an instant spell while kiting due to momentum. 2) if a mob or warrior charges you. And there’s a root effect you can create a small gap for kiting. More useful for pvp scenarios but there are benefits
The beginner vicarious experience is so tender
hell yeah more soda and grubby content
This was so cozy. Excited to see Grubby in onyfangs. Rav and Grubby would be fun
Please post all these to youtube. These are great.
10:45 "I can also press escape on this, and I can watch it later on youtube or something.. right?" so wholesomej
Quite fun watch, to me Soda explained the game in a somewhat convoluted way for a beginner, but everybody learns differently.
poor Grubby wants to immerse in the World of Warcraft during cinematic "i can watch this later on youtube right?" soda: "who cares"
I’ll be watching every wow vid. So excited to see you learn this ! You’re gonna be the goat!
I don't watch WoW content, but I will be watching Grubby's journey 100%
Am actually excited to see Grubby progress through the game and improve over time. It's intriguing seeing a completely new player that has no MMORPG experience in WoW.
I really enjoyed your stream yesterday! I just hope the backseat gaming from Twitch chat doesn’t bother you too much. I really appreciate how you approach learning new games, and I’m confident you’ll get really good at WoW in no time!
I hope you play a little more Grubby, would be so much fun to watch!😊
The jumping has many benefits since u jump in a certain direction u keep ur force of momentum and can turn 180 in jump do a feks "frost shock" then turn back continue towards ur desired direction.
Very interesting to watch grubby play wow! Glad you chose classic, it's the best version. I think you should also try the PvP version of the game on the server Fengus' Ferocity after your HC escapades, it's a lot of fun!
Please keep this series going even if your collab come to an end. I like to start wow as well and it's gonna help os much. love you ❤
59:30 Lol that homm system is so cool but also sometimes so dangerous, thank goodness for the mods these days that let you know the range of them cause man. nothing like ending a good run of homm3 cause you forgot how devastating a Throng was
Threat- Many things produce threat, Attacks-Heals-Being Close to attract it. If you pull a pack, and you don't do Something to the other mobs, and a heal goes off, they mobs will run to the Healer cause they have the "universal threat", because you haven't (as a tank) done anything to the mobs (abilities like a ""Shout"" or a ""Cleave"" type thing).
its so sick watching someone play for the first time lol
Two of my fav dudes playing my fav comfort game
Leveled plenty of shamans over the years and always landed on 1h and shield for 90% of the time with 2h on swap. Knowing your quests really helps the pacing.
Love this. Can’t wait to follow your wow HC journey
Awesome to see you playing WoW. Soda is kind of a bad teacher lol
Update: soda is a VERY bad teacher
@@EricEyetooth He was doing fine, he is very knowledgeable and could explain most things quickly without thinking twice.
"I - I could do that.. But.. How many fingers do I have?" 😂 😂
Does anyone remember why Grubby quit League of Legends? I never saw anything on it.
Grubby, as a long time veteran player, I suggest you move your player and target frame closer to the center of your screen, you dont want to get used to looking at the top left to see important info, you want it all centered. Best to get used to it now, honestly surprised Soda didnt tell you about it.
Despite living in the strangest timeline, I know at minimum we have Grubby doing Dota2 and now WoW? Bless
Why does soda sounds like hes acting like he knows the game
Do not be led astray grubby...Go priest! Healers are life. YOU HOLD EVERYONES LIFE IN YOUR HANDS. You have all the power, they NEED you. They will beg you to join their groups. Drink the demon blood and go priest!
