Songwriters: Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, John Denver
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the sea
Younger than the mountains
Waiting there for me
Country roads, take me home
To the place where I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gather round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrop in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place where I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice
In the morning hour, she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Driving down the road, I get a feeling
That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday
Country roads, take me home
To the place where I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
*** The deleted verse ***
One story goes that Bill and Taffy were visiting some hippie friends at a commune and wrote another verse which was sung in a few of their coffeehouse performances.
So what’s the missing verse? Here you go:
“In the foothills, hiding from the clouds…
Pink and purple, West Virginia farmhouse.
Naked ladies, men who looked like Christ…
And a dog named Pancho, nibbling on the rice.”
brenda you are an exeptionel person the world luvs ya
Just to be clear, I am not Brenda Lee nor do I represent her in any way. It's just the channel name.

Was there ever a cuter, more adorable woman than Brenda?
I don't think so, she the real deal, as genuine as god makes em!
Bless you Bren, your's Bill.
An incredibly talented singer but so much more than that,
a wonderful woman.
+Bill She overcame poverty, the death of her father, her mom's disastrous 2nd marriage, illness, injury, record company cheating, mismanagement etc. She was the smiling, energetic performer on stage, but it was not an easy road to success. Somehow, she remained true to herself through it all.
True love travels on a gravel road.
For where the sun always shines,
there's a desert below,
it takes a little rain to make love grow.
+Bill Bright Thanks for the quotes. Brenda sang a lyric in 1957 that fits her perfectly:
Word by word and take it page by page..just one step at a time.
It may take a little bit longer but the web you weave will be stronger
one step at a time, boy, just one step at a time

ブレンダ リー大好き。
Love her, Mom named me after her.. her favorite singer!
Thanks everybody! 100k views for song that most people didn't even know that Brenda Lee sang. Now about those five dislikers.
Mostly Brenda i would have loved to have seen Brenda singing in the sixties she has the most amazing voice i have ever heard i just think she is stunning
Mostly Brenda George jones
GRANDE BRENDA!!!!! me encanta su voz
Many fans wanted this fabulous song by the world's greatest singer, and you are correct that it only was on a Japanese album until a few years ago. It was included on a
multi-set CD that was sold in the US. I have the CD but can't think of the name. But it is available now. Thanks for picking this up. I had never seen her perform it.

BRENDA es una de las mas grandes cantantes, y yo como joven cantante la tengo como mi guía , aunque hoy sean otros tiempos BRENDA siempre sera una grande... Antonella
The family was quite impoverished, but not in Appalachia. She was born in Atlanta and grew up in and around there. She lived in places like Lithonia and Conyers, GA. At age 6, Brenda was already on Atlanta radio.
Powerful song, Powerful singer !
Golden old song
Desde os tempos de Elvis(o Rei)sempre será a Rainha!
❤❤❤❤❤❤cool tanks you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have the PS and record (VIMX-1563) and not only is the cover unique but the back of the PS is also unusual in that it shows the picture from a different angle, from the front of the auto with the man's face and whole body with an arm on the hood. Although the same car it is shot at a different location. And the back also gives the complete lyrics to the song in English.
And, Mostly Brenda, you are so right in how much she changes the song. To my ears, two whole phrases, changes a couple of words in the middle and drops the first word or two on at least four lines. ( Going by what is printed there.)
Very interesting and I think it makes the song better. I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out although changing some lyrics isn't unusual for Brenda. Thanks for this rare video that should mean a lot to BL fanatics!
hey Don, I was mainly referring to the first verse:
Life is old there, older than the sea
Younger than the mountains
Waiting there for me
Originally,
Life is old there, older than the trees,
Younger than the mountains,
blowin' like a breeze.
I understand what she is getting at - home is "Waiiting" for me. It fits the idea of the song better than the original lyric. However, I don't know how life there is "older than the sea".
adoro tu voz tu carrera simplemente eres genial me producen muchos sentimientos el oír tu música .DIOS TE BENDIGA.
beautiful osng. great performance.
toujours cette magnifique voix !!
beautiful song. great performance.

Das Leben ist wechselhaft,
wie das Meer.
Mal ist es zauberhaft schön,
mal stürmisch und wild. Tollen Freitag ,,,Merci
She’s so cute
i am a huge fan-something that's always bothered me is how she was treated by pop music,in the mid 70's they allowed records to be played by past artsts-paul anka, neil sedaka, bobby vinton, frankie valli, chuck berry,4 seasons, but never allowed any of brenda lees country songs to cross over-and they were a lot better than much of the 70's schlock that was played
Luv this
I can't believe it's been already 10 years since this video got posted today is Monday April 5th 2021 and this video got posted on Jan 21st 2021

Super
I have to correct myself on the release of this recording. Not only was it on the Japanese album sited and on an American CD but it was also released in Japan as a single (45) with a picture sleeve cover. The "B" side was "My Way". The machine I have to play my vinyl on isn't very good so I can't tell if there is any difference in the
recordings. But given what was going on at the time my guess is the same as Mostly Brenda...they are probably all the song produced by Snuff Garrett.

We went to school together Conyers Lithonia Georgia yep we sure did
I forgot I am 75 years of age today
I’ve heard both Brenda Lee and Streisand sing “ what I did for love “ ! Brenda’s version stands out !
I never liked Streisand's singing. Her interpretations seem incoherent to me. I don't think Brenda recorded "What I did for Love", so you must have heard it in concert.
@@MostlyBrenda Streisand definitely has the pipes but lacks the soul. Often over dramatic performances for her ego. I like a few of her songs, I like all of Brenda’s
@@MostlyBrenda my mistake, the song was “Who Can I Turn to “ !
@@SuperBeachbum74 Ah, yes, we have that one on the channel and it is a good example of Brenda knowing exactly where to put the highs and lows. Barbra? I think i've heard the "fake" duet with Newley but didn't think much of it.
@@SuperBeachbum74 Yes, Barbra wants to do something emotional and it throws the rhythm off. Then one line does not follow another like it should. That's what i mean by incoherent.

Brenda. me gustaria Ser el Papa para perdonarte. todos los corazones que has roto. con todo cariño Mario.
A grand performance by the best and most versatile singer. She went from Rockabilly, to a superstar in early rock and roll and later had major country hits.
This is a very rare video and the song has only been released on one CD.
From 1960-69 she was the fourth most chartered performer, after Elvis, The Beatles and Ray Charles. She's the only woman in both the Rock and Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame. Thanks for the post. Don Hicks

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk se não conhecem nem sabem quem é Brenda lee, não postem besteiras... 28 anos, só se for na sua ótica...
Is this really 1972? That would make her less than thirty years old here. I know certain styles etc. of the area make people look older to the modern eye but I watch a lot of footage from those days.
ROADS 66
Lovely. Although Brenda has an irritating habit of heading an air soccer ball into the net during performances. Best to simply listen, otherwise one can accidentally scream 'Goal!'
before my time but she certainly is a good singer ,and I am not a country fan .
A too a bad Cafe, that she supposely diesel. As a "Rockabilly-Dude", I missä her so!
General Kolkki,
Let's fuck up them Russians, we have had a had too much problematiikka with those. For example there was a fuckin' russian helicopters right over our summer-house! Which is about 1.5 km/ about US-Mile from
great performance but if she was born in 1944 that makes her not yet 30 in this video. She looks like a gran.
I just watched a black and white performance from 1966 in which Brenda mentioned that in 1956 she was 12 (which would have made her 22 at that time) and she also said that ppl had been spreading rumors that she was really a midget who was much older. I don't know her so obviously I don't know what her age actually is but it does make one wonder. Still, much love to Brenda.
Brenda is a great singer, but she did not grow up the way Dolly Parton or Loretta Lynn did.
So what !
