A vocalist’s vocalist! Love her. Model good looks, even though she’s only 4ft. +, friendly down to earth personality (she helped her family financially singing at an early age), and that powerful touching voice. My mom took me to see her at the Bloomsburg, PA fair around 1980. What a performance! Every genre from rock’n roll to country to pop ballads to gospel. God gave her a gift and she shares it with us all. - BIG Fan and 50s 60s and Church singer: Jack James, Hazle Twp. PA
This woman never lacked confidence , When you have a voice and talent she has you can't lose. Thank you Brenda Lee for all your pleasure you have brought to us.
She never suffered from stage fright. She loved to sing and loved an audience. I think that once she was on stage and started a song, nothing else was on her mind and you see her total focus on the performance.
Brenda Lee has a Sweet & Powerful Voice , Recently Her Christmas Classic " Rocking Around the Christmas Tree " is at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
One of my favourite female performers & this video is priceless LIVE- Always awesome singing & sounds - Thank you Brenda Lee beautiful memories over many years of being Entertained by you.
I challenge any of today's idolized, female, billionaire, so-called "stars " to equal this simple live performance.....and I doubt that any of them will accept the challenge because they haven't the voice, the presence, or the talent
I agree 100 percent. There will never be anyone like Brenda Lee! I've been a huge fan since 1960! She's just the very best! And she was also the biggest selling female vocalist for 24 years 1960 to 1984!
You're welcome! Yes, a live vocal, live full orchestra, innovative arrangement and some choreography thrown in for good measure, And all you had to do was turn on your television that night.
Love those crinolines! They always added a feminine touch to women's apparel throughout most of the 1950s and even well into the early 60s. I always enjoyed Brenda's ballads.
Yes, thats the one! One of the other bg-singers had a chin like Jay Lenos. One of the Jamabalaya versions I saw yesterday looks like it was from the same show - 1965 I think.
And dance too. I've seen the dress on an album cover and also in a performance on Ed Sullivan, so it may not be as constricting as it looks. She couldn't buy off the rack. Her entire wardrobe was sent to a seamstress to be modified for Brenda's special size.
@louann5840 When Brenda goes to that southern honey drawl "I'm not gonna tell you, but one more time..." , that guy is comin' home no matter what she wearing!
There are not very many Brenda Lee covers that are successful. Break It to Me Gently is one that comes to mind. Pretty much all the rest are avoided by singers and producers because they would pale in comparison - my humble opinion.
@@MostlyBrenda Joey Heatherton had a single of "I'm Sorry" in early 1973 from her M-G-M Records album! Of course it wasn't that great! I have no idea what M-G-M thought they were doing, but as I recall, that record didn't do very well on the charts. I'm a Brenda Lee fan from 1960 after her HUGE hit of I'm Sorry! Too many people think that Brenda was 16 when that record hit number one in late June of 1960, but she was just 15! Also, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree was recorded on October 19, 1958 when she was just 13 years of age. I think your channel is fantastic. Keep posting more Brenda Lee, please! Thank you!
@durgaaa A live performance of "Break It" is difficult to find. She did it on Bandstand, but it was, of course, a lip-synch and all those shows are presumably lost. There exists a promotional clip of it, but I have never been able to find the whole thing. For fun, see her amaze Dolly Parton and Glen Campbell in one of my videos with one note on "Break It".
I've never heard this version before, but it's killer! I've always loved the LP version. One can definitely tell she dug Lady Day, 'cuz she picked this tune for the "All The Way" LP. By the way, I dig Lady Day too!
200K views! In honor of that milestone, I am changing the name to "Brenda Lee sings Tchaikovsky!". What? Has your friendly channel owner gone batty? Maybe, but I just wanted to point out that the bridge of this song - "I remember every little thing you used to do" - is from Tchaikovsky's June Baccarolle. Listen to ua-cam.com/video/R7O7hAV1qtc/v-deo.html to see what I mean. Siggie Romberg stole it from good old Peter Ilyich! Well, today, we would just say he "sampled" it.
The only child spitfire singer, actress that reminds me a little bit of her is shirley temple because they started out very young in.the entertainment business.
Shirley was an amazing dancer for her age. Not nearly the singer that Brenda was though. Both were very fast in absorbing new material, they had that in common, for sure.
Yes,Brenda was the brilliant singer/dancer!Shirley was the dancer/actress.Definetely two very talented girls who became stars and grew up in the eyes of the public.Shirley for the United Nations and Brenda a famous singer. Two awesome women who are legends!
Yeah, Brenda was "Miss Aqua Net" several years running 😉 Just kidding. The dress, however, was puffed out by petticoats. Read the description for a story on the time that came apart during a performance.
I did enjoy listening for comparison`s sake. As i stated, I do like Brenda, but I`m a huge operetta fan and I miss the tender romance of the original Romberg/Hammerstein composition. Lorraine
I have to disagree with Bluecru88. i much preferred the less elaborate arrangement on the "All The Way" album. There was Floyd Cramer on session on that too!
i kinda agree...although i gotta admit that i have like 10 different jazzed up versions of this song...as well as other thumper & the other kid songs covered by other artists...
I like Brenda Lee, but I dislike this uptempo pop arrangement .I.prefer the lilting, lush, soaring, operetta melody composed by Sigmond Romberg for the original broadway production of NEW MOON and the Herbert Stothart arrangement used in the 1940 MGM film adaptation. Romberg`s music and Oscar Hammerstein`s poetic, poignant lyrics were perfectly matched. The song loses much of it`s sweet sentiment with the uptempo rendition. Thanks for sharing with Us. Lorraine
LegitimaMENTE, Maravilhosa!!
Parabéns!!
That song actually has alot of flats and sharps, tricky runs. She sings each note flawlessly. Stunning performance, & she’s gorgeous to boot!
Star qualities are forever. This is one talented person. A star............
Talentosa cantante excelente voz

Happy holidays!
Best female singer ever. Love her performance always great. What a beautiful and talented performer
This performance is superb. She looked so pretty, her voice was amazing and she swung in time to the music. Love it.
All I can say is WOW!
She sings so beautifully and so loudly...
Where is that kind of talent nowadays?
no where
@@willzimjohnI Don't Consider Hip - Hop & Gangsta Rap Talent .
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those dynamic movements, dance steps, plus the twirl...Reason why she was nicknamed "Little Miss Dynamite"
Not only does Brenda sound wonderful in this, but she is so gorgeous it's worth seeing for her beauty alone :)
One of my favourite female performers & this video is priceless LIVE- Always awesome singing & sounds - Thank you Brenda Lee beautiful memories over many years of being Entertained by you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great live performance by the greatest female singer of all time!
Little Brenda - great voice! Wonderful singer.
You can never beat oure talent!!! Gorgeous and timeless.
Loved this when I was seventeen--- still love it.
Lovely song and what a amazing dress.
She makes that dress look beautiful 😯🤳
My Favorite!
Amazing voice!!! I love her!

Successful covers of a Brenda Lee song are almost unknown. On the other hand, Brenda's covers are almost always better than the original.
I agree 100 percent. There will never be anyone like Brenda Lee! I've been a huge fan since 1960! She's just the very best! And she was also the biggest selling female vocalist for 24 years 1960 to 1984!
A living Doll.Truley, perfection!
When the Lord made Brenda,
he even out did him self.
They broke the mold as they say when she was made.No one like her in the world!
This post alone more than makes up for all today's bad music. Thanks!

I just love you. You rock.

Love her dress. But how could she breathe having it so tight let alone sing! She is fabulous!!
And dance too. I've seen the dress on an album cover and also in a performance on Ed Sullivan, so it may not be as constricting as it looks. She couldn't buy off the rack. Her entire wardrobe was sent to a seamstress to be modified for Brenda's special size.

She set the bar very high for female artists, actually too high cause she has no peers !

The cool thing is that this is TOTALLY live. Great performance.

Brenda was still in High School (lycées), but was also on national television.

COOL !
Every road I walked along, I walked along with you; no wonder I am lonely...
A l'époque sylvie Vartan et Jocelyne ont repris quelques unes de ses chansons ,mais pour ce qui est du talent en
étaient loin
Oui, il semblait que chaque pays essayait de trouver une "Brenda". Lulu, Helen Shapiro, Rita Pavone, Celly Campello etc.

Fascinating!!! Anyone else get the many Bobby Darin connections from this vid? Great stuff......thx for posting! :)
@BTLfanIam The Beatles also opened for Roy Orbison when he did a few tours in Europe in the early '60's.
@MrCallipygous I think the Beatles opened for Mary Wells too.
Aged just 19 years, what a fantastic age for a woman!
"FOUR FOOT SEVEN BALL OF FIRE."

Earlier there was a TV version of this song present at Utube. That one was even better - "groovier" sts. Where is that gone - copyright block?

All the starch in that dress and all the hairspray in that hair…she has a hole in the ozone with her name on it! LOL!😅

Does anyone know where I can get sheet music for this? it's such a lovely song!

She sounds like a "45 Yr" old "Peggy Lee".
My Lord, shes just a Kid Here.
WOW!!!!
i kinda agree...although i gotta admit that i have like 10 different jazzed up versions of this song...as well as other thumper & the other kid songs covered by other artists...
ohhhhhhh my god. what a rude thing to do to a beautiful, haunting song!

She's sounds like eartha Kitt when she sing this song.
She behaves in those days following a crooner mode
The bop
is it me, or does she sometimes seem like she is a bit off beat, its not really syncopation. . its kind of wierd, but it may be me
like an old and original Amy Winehouse or somethin'
Bobby Darin in drag?
Stop it!
I love listening to Brenda, usually - but this song?? A classic from Jeanette McDonald ruined with the jazzed up pace. Phooey what a pity.
