In 1959, the great Greek actress, Tzeni Karezi, recorded for the soundtrack of the film ‘Το Νησί των Γενναίων’ (The Island of the Brave) a sweet melancholic song titled ‘Μην τον ρωτάς τον ουρανό’ (Don’t ask the sky), composed by Manos Hadjidakis. Three years later, in 1962, the popular American singer Brenda Lee performed the song in English, this time titled ‘All Alone Am I’

I visited my dad and brother on the next weekend. My mom always told me she still loved my dad. My dad still loved my mom but remarried another woman anyway. He divorced her a few years later. This song came out in 1963 and haunted my thoughts as a young boy about love lost somehow. I never got over the fact that love lost is insanely tragic and probably unnecessary. 😢

Brenda Lee and I have something in common, we were born on the same day, the same year. This song is my favorite, I was in the Navy over in the far east when I first heard it in1963. A radio station in the Philippines played it regularly. And, I was to get married when we returned stateside....been married 56 years now.
November 23, 1963, the night after after Kennedy was assenated. A bus load from my high school was riding up to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for an over night field trip. Someone had this song playing on a transister. A girl I had never met fell asleep with her head on my shoulder. I was afraid to move, even breath, for fear she would wake up. It has been over 50 years and I still remember and say a silent "thank you Linda"
I am 70 and am so grateful to have lived most of my life experiencing the beauty and talent of days gone by. Songs had real emotion and meaning. Love was the core of the music that filled our souls with love in relationships. This song is mourning for love lost too soon.
I'm 62, due to my parents always playing albums on blast all night, every night, it gave me and my sisters (RIP to all of them, including my parents) so much musical knowledge on oldies like this not that many people even older than all of us have. True gems
This takes me bk to my young life that I wasted in clubs sex & drink, now I see how foolish I was, yet I so enjoyed being young as the song by 'Mary Hopkins' "Those were the days" brings my best times bk, as its so true, "Those were the days," 'my friend & they'll never end' as they made me who am now & tears flow everytime I hear it sung!
Every teen that heard this song cried listening to it. What teen doesn't feel alone at some point during those emotion-laden years? A simply fabulous rendition of a sensational song.
All alone am I ever since your goodbye All alone with just a beat of my heart People all around but I don't hear a sound Just the lonely beating of my heart No use in holding other hands For I'd be holding only emptiness No use in kissing other lips For I'd be thinking just of your caress All alone am I ever since your goodbye All alone with just a beat of my heart People all around but I don't hear a sound Just the lonely beating of my heart No other voice can say the words My heart must hear to ever sing again The words you used to whisper low No other love can ever bring again All alone am I ever since your goodbye All alone with just a beat of my heart People all around but I don't hear a sound Just the lonely beating of my heart

I never knew the name Brenda Lee til today. But somehow I know a voice as such, to be not just beautiful, but to be oh so divinely delivered through the talents of God.
I was pretty young when her hits were on the radio, and I suppose I didn't pay much attention. I think, though, that the music still found a strong chord somewhere in my grey matter. Today, at 64, I love this music, because I think it resonates with that long ago appeal. Such amazing artistry all around!
I'm 66 and Brenda was a favorite of my sister's which made her a fav of mine as well. My sister, Deanna, and I would listen each weekend to music as she tried to learn the cords on her accordion. My sister never mastered it totally before she was killed in a car accident at age 25. It almost killed me too when I lost not just a sister, but my best friend. She and I had shared many musical moments together. We loved singing so much. I still miss my sister every single day.

The song was originally composed by the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis and recorded in Greek by Tzeni Karezi for the soundtrack of the Greek film "To nisi ton genneon" (Το νησί των γενναίων - Island of the braves). To lose your spouse is the greatest hurt you can experience. I lost my wife of forty two years two and a half years ago and the pain of the loss remains tremendous. My greatest consolation is I know she is with the Lord because of the faith she had in her last days here. I pray the words of the Lord bring you peace and consolation: Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.
It is a beautiful love song well interpreted by the legend Brenda Lee, who has been singing for a long, long time. I honestly believe that she has not been given the proper recognition as the good singer she was. I didn't know this song was an originally Greek composition. By the way among the many faces of well known and famous actors & actresses intercalated in this video, I think that I can recognize the first one featuring them as that of dominican actress María Montez (1912-1951) , then called "The Queen of Technicolor" among others.

+arthur haecker I live near oak ridge, was it some sort of "secret city" tour?
+arthur haecker ..As one hopeless romantic. I have memories similar. It never leaves you does it? Ain't life Grand?
a very touching story. Memories so bitter sweet felt now as then sparked my a song.

I am 70 and am so grateful to have lived most of my life experiencing the beauty and talent of days gone by. Songs had real emotion and meaning. Love was the core of the music that filled our souls with love in relationships. This song is mourning for love lost too soon.
Ésta canción le encantaba a mi madre. Con ella siempre la recuerdo, es maravillosa. Saludos desde Chile.
This is what you call singing!!! and what a song.
Every teen in the Fifties identified with this song! Between this song and Brenda's magnificent voice...all that teenage angst came to the fore. Wow!
I'm 62, due to my parents always playing albums on blast all night, every night, it gave me and my sisters (RIP to all of them, including my parents) so much musical knowledge on oldies like this not that many people even older than all of us have. True gems
And likewise, inlaws', and later, our kids' favorites, broaden and deepen our appreciation.
I was only 17 when this came out, I'm now 67 and still love it
WOW... I turned 17 when this was popular, Cool for you!
I was 15.
Me too, I have all her records.

Matthew Kaczer she’s simply stating how old she was when the song was released. Never did she say anything about old is better or whatever.
What a fantastic era this was, nothing will ever beat it, we didn't have computers, mobile 'phones but we did have great music.

Good old days!
Wish I had a time machine i would just go back when this was out, it would be better than winning the lotto, meeting every one again! A great song.❤
Trouble is at the time we did not know just how special it was..wish in some ways we could go back..but life is as it is...we move forward.
Que voz... um instrumento na boca. Ainda de quebra essas grandes atrizes e atores nada mas nada menos de Hollywood. 1.000...

ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME, ROMANTIC, EVOCATIVE.
I AM AWESTRUCK WITH BRENDA LEE'S VOICE!
THE LYRICS ARE PRECIOUS. TQ
Hi Marian, how are you doing
Every teen that heard this song cried listening to it. What teen doesn't feel alone at some point during those emotion-laden years? A simply fabulous rendition of a sensational song.
Manos Hatzidakis, wrote the music 🎵. One of the greatest Greek composers!
Great Composer RIP!
Beautiful music
My mom passed in 2019..... She was named after this lady...... And my god I miss her everyday.......
All alone am I ever since your goodbye
All alone with just a beat of my heart
People all around but I don't hear a sound
Just the lonely beating of my heart
No use in holding other hands
For I'd be holding only emptiness
No use in kissing other lips
For I'd be thinking just of your caress
All alone am I ever since your goodbye
All alone with just a beat of my heart
People all around but I don't hear a sound
Just the lonely beating of my heart
No other voice can say the words
My heart must hear to ever sing again
The words you used to whisper low
No other love can ever bring again
All alone am I ever since your goodbye
All alone with just a beat of my heart
People all around but I don't hear a sound
Just the lonely beating of my heart

Hi 👋, how are you
Great song ,sung by a great Singer Brenda Lee.
Very nice voice capturing the feeling within and she is one of my favorite singer but the song makes me feel sad in my aloneness since my husband died 14 yrs ago but still happy to hear some music like this .
Hi Beth, how are you doing?
eran artistas de verdad ,vocalización perfecta sin artilugios técnicos ,hermosa interpretación
The lyrics touches the soul and makes you wanna to fall in love all over and over again. It reminds me of when I had genuine love in my world.
Essa música é do ano que eu nasci muito linda da impressão que eu estou ainda nessa época chego até me arrepiar de emoção
🙂👋
I never knew the name Brenda Lee til today. But somehow I know a voice as such, to be not just beautiful, but to be oh so divinely delivered through the talents of God.
Very well said. :)
Truly this was one wonderful voice and a lovely woman too . Thank heavens for making her visit this earth !
Que bella eres, el talento de su voz nos llena de recuerdos. Dios les bendiga por conservar estas joyas. Desde Venezuela, gracias

The song was originally composed by the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis and recorded in Greek by Tzeni Karezi for the soundtrack of the Greek film "To nisi ton genneon" (Το νησί των γενναίων - Island of the braves). The original song in Greek is titled "Min ton rotas ton ourano" (Μην τον ρωτάς τον ουρανό - Don't ask to the sky)
Brenda Lee one of a kind, just beautifully and unforgettable.
Im 68 and still come back to listen to this beautiful song. My mom and I used to dance to it when I was a kid, this and Connie Francis. Good memories!

Brenda Lee...One of my three favorite girl singers from way back when, Petula Clark and Connie Francis being the other two.I just loved. As an avid fan of these girls, I followed their careers and personals as best I could, and considering how things went, I feel compelled to congratulate Brenda Lee for how things worked out for her. Fans of these three girls know what I'm talking about, To this day, 2019, I love Brenda Lee and this Alone Am I song. Love it.

Esta canção da minha adolescência da Brenda Lee, marcou-me muito, está associada ao meu grande primeiro Amor que durou uma vida❤️
Yes, thank you. It is Maria Montez
With all of her hits, this is perhaps her biggest one. Memorable.
