It definitely is not, and he absolutely didn't steal it when he thought D&D was going to be a one-off thing
Well at this point the only similarity is the whole cursed pirate treasure, he acts nothing like Sparrow and he (Corazon) was an aristocrat....So I think it is more of an homage to PoTC otherwise there would be many law suits against the House of Mouse for all the other films and stories about cursed treasure.

@@Brian-tn4cd She gave it to Egbert during the dungeon crawl so he could literally carry the rest of the party across the oil room (which is probably Egbert's greatest feat of strength given it seems he was carrying them all at once)
I love that part of her finding out for the second time that she could bestow it on people was her this time expressly booping herself on the nose like she had to bestow it upon herself when before she would just spider climb
It's my head canon that when she's not watching her books are trying to mate with the other books, and that's where new sentient books come from.

She had it as one of her Invocations for a while and never used it, and eventually swapped it for _Eldritch Spear_ to go along with _Agonizing Blast_ to make her Eldritch Blasts super dangerous at long range.

I try so hard to make my DND sessions fun and interesting but nothing beats what the players themselves come up with, like calling this very serious thing the curse hole for example. It's just a dumb name, but that fun kind of dumb that I love in these kinds of games

I think the original Moonbeam revelation might have been what inspired my wholly un-magical Tabaxi Monk to learn Detect Magic by watching a bunch of his party members do it, go into a meditative trance, and then "cast" it himself by pointing at the nearest wizard. I thought I was being so original at the time...
The fact that Percy was a prefect and his father was still disappointed in him makes sense but is also another tragic detail in his backstory. I'm gonna go cry now.

I really love the atmosphere of this one. Gives me real Catacombs of Carthus vibes for some reason, mixed in with some proper Eldritch horror (like if FromSoftware had put more of a Bloodborne twist on those catacombs). Not that the Catacombs of Carthus really needs a lot to be rather creepy (well, if they'd put some of the ghosts from Irithyll of the Boreal Valley in there). That one room is very much like the penitent man bit of The Last Crusade, which I also enjoy a lot.
The Wonderful Mechanical Fans and "blades in the dark" bit really got me laughing.
I love that Merilwyn knew exactly where Johnny (Paniers) was going with the "I've heard tell" bit and moonbeam. Can't wait for the next one!

He's not immortal, when the crew got cursed he ran away to save himself so he didn't get cursed.

I was thinking about this honestly, bc yeah he didn't steal the coins initially from the curse hole but he did steal the one at the collector's exhibit; if it's a matter of stealing the coins at all it would be possible that stealing that coin from the exhibit would have cursed him the same way, but if it's specifically stealing them from the curse hole he isnt
@@jprofio I think it is specifically from the Cursehole, because that's where the creature is. If everyone who had ever been in possession of one became immortal, there would probably be a lot more immortal folks running around

Why is cursed captain (Panias?) doubtful of the existence of moon beam? Both he and possibly the whale have seen it in the musiem when all his flesh and skin got melted off, then again when merilwhen got dropped off by the whale while Corazon (and eggbert) moonbeamed a bunch of fish.
In fairness the first occurrence was right before his brain got dissolved by acid which can't be good for the short term memory and the second one was while he was having a difficult time in his relationship and spending some time apart from his partner so he might not even have been there. Plus it's such an uncommon spell, barely anyone can do it.

Isn't like half the gang under various curses currently? Dob's death curse, isn't Prudence still a werewolf, am I missing one?
Counting existing, repealed, theorised and removed curses, here's my list on what you don't have.
Spoiler warning for oxventure thus far.
Collective skeleton joining the hammer curse, collective hammer exploding and the owners die curse, Merrilwen's banshee curse (which was from the brooch which is gone but it existed), Prudence's hermit head necklace curse (again removed), Evil Dob curse (also removed), baby Prudence curse (again removed), we don't count rabies since that's a disease although the magic stealing might have been a curse which got removed, I think there was a curse with Corazon where his crew would always know roughly where he was or they just search well, Corazon's curse for killing the sea birds (repealed), possibly whatever made Egbert a dragonborn (I don't count Prudence being a tiefling as that was a birth condition whereas Egbert explicitly changed), the collective body swap curse (removed again), the transfiguring curse from Egbert's mace on Dob (seemingly ended) and Corazon's curse to always be melodramatic. Prudence and Dob get cursed a lot in retrospect.
If we included cursed items the guild possess we might still have the now empty demonic pokeball, the hammer which summons 60 skeletons, a flaming skull and a skeletal mule, two animated books of eldritch lore (debatable whether they're cursed but I think unnatural animation could be a curse unlike the idiom book), an eldritch tome which turned a bandit leader into a goblin and opened a secret passage, potentially Dob's Hellraiser lute, Egbert's cursed mace, all the cursed coins Corazon collected, the strength boosting gauntlets maybe and whatever the items they picked up in the snow globe adventure are along with the estate at Necropolis on Sea (I don't think the Joyful Damnation is actually cursed although Lilliana has summoned it before). Maybe Dob's rapier, Corazon's magic cutlass (he has multiple nonmagical) and Prudence's dagger which they found in a dragon's hoard or Merrilwen's bow from the treasure room of a dungeon (she also has an assassin's +4 magic arrows which might have some added spice)?
@@consolescrub4031 you....have a loose definition of the word "curse". And an even looser definition of _being_ cursed. Like, in what world would I be asking about _removed/repealed_ curses and have phrased it "aren't [they] under"?
@@micahnewby7964 I probably do have a loose definition but what constitutes a curse feels pretty vague to me and those are all negative long term effects caused by magic/supernatural powers. What would you define a curse as?
Did I need to list all their previous curses to answer your question? Definitely not. Did I think it would be mildly entertaining to do so as a means of recounting just how many of what I would consider to be curses the party has been under/what cursed items they possess? Yep. My apologies if you found the answer vague but you would think they would be used to curses by now considering the amount they've previously received which I thought was the line you were going down.

for anyone reading since the idea will be useless if i hold onto it: how to make curse of immortality scary? you can feel your body. everything in your body. your brain, your liver. your kidneys (or *kidney* in egberts case lol), your heart, your lungs, your muscles, your nerves... everything. you feel everything working. the idea of your loved ones eventually dying while you live on? thats so far away! but feeling every single thing in your body actively keeping you artificially alive, even pulling you back together in death? horrifying beyond measure. id take actual final once and for all death IMMEDIATELY over that
idk whether this is a thing later on, im only part of the way through this episode and this is the furthest ive seen of oxventure, but it came in my mind as prudence was asking why curse of immortality is so bad, and it just sprung to mind. love johnny as a dm, theyre amazing as always (none of this is a dig/insult, the answer was obviously spur of the moment and not thought of before and im sure its hard to think of an answer on spot for every single thing ever as a gm), but ive never heard any good answer for this line of questioning and absolutely this is the answer id understand the most as to why curse of immortality is bad and why youd wanna lift it ASAP (as opposed to living with it for a long time and THEN getting rid of it when the "real" consequences come into play)
Does anyone know what level they are at the moment? The last level up video I remember was the one before Orbpocolypse where they leveled up to 9 but I’m not sure if they mentioned it since then.
Its not really a surprise that warbow arrows can support a human in full plate. Those arrows are thick, much different what we use on fairs and stuff today.
Merrilwen also has some +4 magic arrows which in 5e equates to legendary or of equivalent impact to a 9th level spell in the DMG. You could probably drop an adult dragon on them and they would be fine.

Poor D.D.; Ellen misremembered him as having a one way affection when Merrilwyn was actually into him in that Legacy of Dragons episode where he was introduced, and they had that squid with benefits arrangement. To be fair, Johnny absently called him "that horny crew member" and if you don't know who D.D. is then you might assume the worst. Ah, the life of a non-particular crew member really is fickle and fleeting.

Can someone who knows this game well explain to me sneak attack, because I feel like there is no way it just is given to you in five feat because that is just garunteed if you are a melee fighter and does it just double your damage? What that basically means is you always do double damage if you use your sword and I dont know much about DnD but thaf does not seem right

I think if Merylwens bow always teleported you where the arrow went and you couldn't choose, it would be an utterly useless weapon. Imagine trying to fire an arrow at someone and you get teleported next to them. The weapon would end up hurting you more than the people you fire it at.
Also does she have metal arrows like Green Arrow in Arrow? Those would probably be sturdy enough to hold them
well you can shoot an enemy without first hitting the teleport button. the question is if you still teleport despite missing the target and the arrow fell a thousand feet off a cliff on the other end.
I see your point if the arrow misses. But if I remember correctly, in Baking Bad they managed to “tele-frag” something by shooting the arrow to where it was. So her and Prudence materialized they just blew it to bits 🤢
im always so conflicted when watching oxventure because they are bloody hilarious but im naturally such a stickler for rules and it cases me pain when there do something impossible ps. it happens a lot
I feel that. I love watching the chaos and they're clearly having so much fun but I don't think I could ever play this loosely myself. Not to call anyone out for using spells in creative ways since I think that's more fun than being a stickler for definitions but some spells have definitely been pushed beyond their intended use within the rules and combat is a strange time where Johnny has to try come up with numbers for the most wild ideas including but not limited to punching someone as a bear, welding a guy's foot to the floor, pantsing a guy in plate armour, boiling an opponent, attempting to trip someone over with their own arms, nut shot of instant death (admittedly no numbers needed here but there could have been), throwing a demonic pokeball, hitting someone with a chair (if memory serves this one has happened 7 times thus far), firing a cannon at someone, steering a boat into a person, shoving someone from a bed out a window, throwing a bear at someone, dropping a bucket of acid on people, drowning someone in wine (twice), garrotting someone with lute strings and the ever classical move of danger close feeding someone a lit bomb (4 instances I recall).
I like their playstyle and try to take elements from it for my own games but I genuinely don't think I could think fast enough on the fly to keep up with them for long especially with their unique brand of blocking with your face problem solving. I fully admit that I would probably have given in to the voices and killed at least one of the PC by now were I dm'ing and all the more credit to Johnny for not indulging so. I should also note the amount of times the party has talked to Merrilwen in Wild shape expecting a response hurts my soul as a druid player (you can get around this by writing something and saying what you write for the benefit of your friends but technically the Message cantrip requires you to speak the message so that's out if you're playing entirely by the rules. If you happen to make know a GOOlock willing to get you a deal you can use telepathy and an aberrant mind sorcerer or Kalashtar could give you temporary telepathy to them). Honourable mentions to all the useful abilities sitting by the wayside like how Dob can block charm effects and stay up at one hit point, Egbert has auras which make himself and nearby allies resistant to magic damage and much better at saving throws (it's like permanent advantage statistically), Prudence can literally always see unobscured magic within 30 ft of her when conscious or snipe people from a distance equal to three blue whales (she also has racial smokebomb aka darkness), Corazon can attack with his bonus action if he doesn't feel like hiding or giving himself advantage and Merrilwen walks 16.66% faster than the rest of the party and either goes to sleep later or wakes up two hours earlier than them giving her even more time to create puns (she can also hide in light rain, mist or convenient knee high grass).

Seems like Egbert isn't the only careless member of the Oxventure Guild. or did Corazon deliberately ind the gears with his scarf? Hmmm- a sneaky maneuver if so.
