God this fight is so good. The build up to the fight throughout the game, the pre fight intro, the setting, and the music. Perfection. Just like the rest of the game.
Just finished the remaster… all these years later, the only point in the entire game where I still lost a significant amount of health was this damn boss fight. Particularly in the grounded part and his charge attack. The common response to the toughest fight in the game is the Omega Pirate, but I still give it to Meta Ridley. Probably because it’s so lengthy. Super epic though all the same, love it.
i just played through this game for the first time ever, i only died twice in the entire game and both times were to the omega pirate. although i came very close to dying against metroid primes final stage. i think what makes omega pirate such a pain is dealing with the colored space pirates, and trying to juke out omega pirate and constantly walking into the phazon. although once i got in a rhythm i killed omega 3rd try with much more ease. and same goes for metroid prime with the color specific metroids. The crucial time to strike is when those annoying fuckers latch on to your head. id say of the final 3 bosses, ridley was the easiest just because his first stage is such a cakewalk. 2nd stage is a huge pain in the ass but I had so much health still so i just tanked it
hard no from me. Both of the Prime 3 fights, the Samus Returns fight, and debatably the Ceres fight all are better to me. That just makes me more excited for the Prime 3 remaster though
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 ok i can understand the first two you mentioned, but Ceres? idk about that. I think his actual Norfair fight was better than the Ceres fight
@@theflurker2435 Nah, the Norfair fight is a lot easier. You can kill him pretty quickly and easily in the Norfair fight whereas the Ceres fight takes a lot of skill to defeat him and is hard coded to be a certain number of hits to beat.
I know some people get tired of Ridley’s constant resurrection after Samus puts him down almost every game, but let’s be honest….someone, somewhere in this universe is gonna have his cells in a test tube and he’s such a good nemesis - the being who killed Samus’ parents who can be revived/cloned/healed/grown with little effort? The reason Samus is never bothered by his appearance is because she expects it - they’re a Batman/Joker dynamic
Indeed. Ridley is a foil to Samus. He serves as a constant dread (heh! See what I did there) to her. She knows that chances are, she’ll encounter him again sooner or later every time she’s on a mission. They also serve as opposites, while Samus is the lone wolf bounty hunter who jumps around the galaxy helping others, Ridley is the commander of the space pirates, going around the galaxy looting, pillaging, and killing those that stand in their way of conquest. And then we have personalities. These are both taken from Metroid’s wiki pages about samus, and about Ridley. Ridley: “Ridley is also shown to be prideful, and to have a sadistic sense of humor. He had Mecha Ridley created explicitly in his image, displaying narcissism. His bloodthirsty tendencies were indicated in a Pirate Data scan explaining his reconstruction as Meta Ridley, where the crew stated that Ridley becoming the mainstay of security after his completion was "a job he will certainly relish." Samus: “Samus is a hero of few words, and a fearsome warrior. She remains quiet and brooding in spite of her great accomplishments, and has devoted her life to maintaining peace in the galaxy…. Despite her reputation for combat, Samus is also known for her compassion, and has consistently stood up to secure the helpless and downtrodden. “ These two are specifically meant to play off each other. They’re nemesis, who duel in a deadly and continuous dance to the death. And they won’t stop… not until one of them is ended… permanently.

Yeah, I just did it on hard mode and it took about 20 minutes, with about 10 cycles in the second phase. I was just using the normal plasma beam on his chest, because the flamethower was too slow to start up. There must be faster strategies, because that was painful.
One thing that mildly annoys me is that his head is still purple. Not only was it plated in the original, just logically the cranium is the first place you'd want to enhance defenses for, right?
Is it just me or after ridley is defeated that chanting coming from the Chozo statues, was that in the original game because that gave me chills. Essentially it's the literal Chozo spirits literally coming to life through their statues and striking back at ridley.
I think something went wrong in my file all those years ago; any time I did this fight, I wound up having to cheese the second part with the Wave Beam Super-Missile Upgrade to defeat him (it locks onto his chest and deals damage while the fire button is held down)
I have to ask. I’ve been seeing quite a bit of footage from this game did they take the side dash function out? I never see anybody use it. It was key to survival in the original prime games. Especially on higher difficulties.
Its just that now days games are not expected to have skill or timing so everyone thinks they can just rush and shoot. No skill play really and it shows with this remake people dont even try to dodge. I watched this and respectfully was like , damn this guy sucks but then i was like , well im a 101% runner so i mean maybe im just harsh then i saw all the footage like you and now im just kind of disapointed. I remember doing a no energy tanks run on hard and having to remember every attack patern , i did a no save run i even raised the water to cover the whole floor in the flaaghara fight so i was constantly taking damage to make it challenging. People just dont have the mentality they used to....
Ridley was assigned to monitor Samus as once she unlocks the gate to impact crater, he would go and kill her then the pirates can go to it and extract all the phazon and then destroy the planet.
It was a good plan...until Samus killed them all before Ridley could do anything to stop her. I mean it's gonna be tough to extract all that Phazon when 99.9% of your teammates are dead.
@@theoddronin1 ikr They see her dangerous to them And decided to use weapons against her own. Especially when they want to use phazon as hazardous weapons. And besides, any info when will Prime 2 Ecoes remastered release? Can't wait for it
8:29 when he is doing the charge with his large mouth open use a charged plasma beam. It knocks his head back and if you do this three times. His chest will be exposed and just keep plasma blasting him till he drops.
The default in-game volume for the Iconic theme needed to be *much* louder imo. Sadly, it just just sounds too washed out and part of the background noise to have that thumping 'Mega' effect. 6:32 Also, I cannot believe how little punishment you take from Ridleys charge attack - this game was _way_ more forgiving than I thought!
A really great game, but this fight is bad... Controls are unresponsible to deal with the difficult of the 2nd part of the battle. The aim is useless. This video helped me to win it.
First time playing Prime. Most of this game is back tracking galore and pathetic enemies, litterally have only died to lava and radiation. Then I encounter this stupid boss. The difficulty spike is OBSCENE you move SO SLOW it has WAY TOO MUCH health after its wings burn. Honestly ruining an otherwise mediocre experience to be honest.
Sounds like you didn’t understand the overall fun part of Metroid prime. Yes it’s back track heavy, but that’s intentional. And if you think the enemies are pathetic, you obviously didn’t play the same game I did. Part of this game is also trying to enjoy the story and background lore. You want a game that has no meaning other than beating up enemies and moving forward- go back to playing Pokémon.
"Oh great, he lost his wings, he now has to fight on the ground!"

Fun fact: Ridley isn't a weaponized mindless beast. He's highly intelligent, a commander of the Space Pirates. In the Manga he's even able to talk.
And he canonically swears in the manga too
He also ate her parents and laughed at her about it. Ridley’s a fucking dick.
Yeah and super smash bros ultimate makes it clear that it’s not just some mindless character. He’s like vile from megaman but for Metroid instead
You're right.
I like to assume that he is telepathic, and can’t speak the same way a human can.
God this fight is so good. The build up to the fight throughout the game, the pre fight intro, the setting, and the music.
Perfection. Just like the rest of the game.
His weakness is the ice beam once he loses the wings. One charged shot will knock his head back exposing his core.

This is how a remastered game should be
This fight is so damn awesome... on normal mode.
On hard mode, it turns into tedium central
Yeah, I just did it on hard mode and it took about 20 minutes, with about 10 cycles in the second phase. I was just using the normal plasma beam on his chest, because the flamethower was too slow to start up. There must be faster strategies, because that was painful.
“Can’t let you do that, Samus!”
I love that they gave him his purple colors back, while Meta Ridley is awesome, I thought his silver paint job always irked me.
It is supposed to be Ridley as a cyborg hence the silver body
One thing that mildly annoys me is that his head is still purple. Not only was it plated in the original, just logically the cranium is the first place you'd want to enhance defenses for, right?
I legitimately think this is one of the few games on the planet where you can't say a single negative thing about it
Make no mistake. This guy will chew you up in his second stage. I’ve died a couple times to it already. It’s a real knife fight.
I just love that introduction.
The serenity, the sense of accomplishment. Then...the music hits

NGL, everytime I heard Ridley's roars here I kept thinking "Is that Dialga???"

The tediousness in the ground phase makes this fight the pits. It's so stupid because sometimes you dodge his attack and sometimes you dont
Ridley really is a cyborg!
Increíble como los artefactos no solo eran artefactos sino que eran los espiritus de los sabios chozo.

Meta Ridley (Female): why is this confusing I'm not a boy!
That MF killed me five times, damn... For me, hardest boss in the game.

Wtf. I brought back all 12 artifacts and it have them connect in the middle

I just use Plasma Beam for the whole fight. As much as I like the Wave Beam, Plasma Beam is just so powerful and more reliable than Super Missile.

Watching footage of the original, the remaster actually looks kind of bad. The textures are better but the particles look awful, especially the beams.
I know it does look better when you do a side by side, but on its own it still feels like reallllly old graphically
