I always wonder if Emmy is trying to open it properly or not. The key is to open the peelable seal right in the middle where the seal comes to a point. If you open it at that point it allows you to focus all of the pressure on a small part of the seal. The seal fails fairly often anyway but it helps if you try to open from the right spot.

I’m near deaf and so rely on the captions to enjoy Emmy’s videos and the captions for when she says “Itadakimasu” where so weird and different every time it took about 10-12 videos before it spelt it right and I understood what it was she was saying every time she went to eat! You don’t want to know how confused I was at the start, thinking “what is this lovely woman saying, she doesn’t look crazy but for this one line!?” I thought it was a competition where different viewers wrote in and got her to say different weird lines each time!?

Use just a little bit of water, the sugar packet, and the creamer packet mixed into the cocoa drink powder until it's a thick paste. Bingo! You have Ranger pudding. I remember wondering about the "Patriotic cookies" when I got some in an MRE, it made me laugh when I opened the pouch, cos I too expected something in the red white & blue theme, but I just got broken pieces of everything, I'm sure there's a political joke to be had in that too... :P

My mom grew up in RI and she called it Goulash!! I grew up eating it as a kid, my grandpa would make it a lot! It's basically beef, pasta and tomatoes. I would add cheese on top, it's very yummy!!!

We made goulash when I was growing up. Basically just browned ground beef, elbow macaroni, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, sautéed onions, and sometimes a small bit of onion soup mix. Pretty tasty stuff.

Here in Michigan goulash is pretty common, we do it with ground beef, elbow noodles, tomatoes, some onion... Kinda like a drier spaghetti, served similarly, too. We just heat the meat with everything else after cooking it through, add it to pasta, and done. My mom even does it fully from canned ingredients.

I grow up with the Hungary beef goulash which is basically a beef stew made with lesser cuts of meat, lard or olive oil, onion, bell pepper, tomatoes water, paprika and sour cream that requires a low and slow cooking time in order to get the meat tender. My mother got the recipe from my great, great aunt Rose who was born in Hungary and ended up in Wisconsin with the rest of her family. My mother either make it with egg noodles or spaetzle but you can serve as is. The American version your taking about is more or less like American chops suey...it good, quicker cheaper to prepare adaptation made with ground beef with filler(carrots, peas and a larger pasta ratio using elbow macaroni). Chicken Paprikash is another simple Hungary dish that's really good.

Fun fact: you can make brownies with your hot chocolate powder. Just mix in a bit of water to make a thick slurry, grab your canteen cup and put your batter in. Leave on a hot engine block for however long it takes.

I would so love to see a Babish and Emmy cook off or say a collaboration holiday meal, recorded Babish style with no heads showing , Emmy style with a history lesson and a fun ending, plus random burping.

The goulash that I grew up on was from an old Betty Crocker cookbook (probably dates from the 60's). It was labeled Hungarian Goulash and doesn't contain any vegetables, other than onion. Main ingredients of the sauce are ketchup, worcestershire sauce, dried ground mustard, paprika, onion, and garlic. Mom served it over egg noodles (No Yolk brand in the bags). I made a photocopy of the recipe from my mom's book and make it any time I see a good deal on stew beef at the store.

I come from a military family and when I was a kid (early 70’s)our grandpa would get us the MRE’s from Camp Pendleton that came in a box and the food was in green cans. My favorite was the beans and weenies and the peanut butter. There was also crackers and chocolate. Once you mastered using the funky little can opener tasting everything was fun. We were always excited to see what MRE’s were waiting for us.

C-Rats (with cans) predated MREs that came into service in the 1980s. I left the service in 1986, never had MREs, only C-Rats. I'm one of the few who actually liked "Beans and Mfers". 😄

Fun fact, Emmy: the gum doubles as
a laxative. With low water intake, and high protein & salt, the meal’s final course is meant to be the gum which is there to help you out later.
Ps, without going into detail, just know that I learned the hard way. 😄

My grandma made American goulash my whole childhood! A can of stewed tomatoes, a pound of hamburger, a box of plain macaroni, and generous salt and pepper. I think Clara would have approved of it as a poor man's meal! Nourishing, tasty, and cheap. ❤️

As someone who just got out of basic training, I seriously miss the MREs
They taste SO good especially when every other day you’ve been feed dry chicken, old fish, and mushy unseasoned veggies
We had a snow storm and couldn’t get regular food but we received MRE’s in the morning and lemme tell ya
    The breakfast MREs HIT 😋😂
