The 3060 Omen 15 should be coming soon! I'll also compare the Omen 15 against the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro too 👍
Update: Apparently the battery drain can be helped by changing the BIOS setting "Adaptive battery optimizer" from the default enabled to disabled. I did not test this, but regardless do not think it is a great user experience given many people will likely never enter a laptop's BIOS. Most laptops let you set a minimum charge level through software, so having this on by default resulting in otherwise unknown battery drain doesn't seem ideal in my opinion.
Update to the update: I tried changing that BIOS setting, battery still drains under heavy CPU+GPU load. I only tested from 100% down to 89%, point is it still dips.
Either 1 of this 2 will be my go to for my new gaming PC this year.
Yess
Could you also compare rtx3060 models of the Omen and L5?
@@rushsoccer1355 I don't have a 3060 Legion at the moment so we'll have to see what Lenovo send over.
Any news on omen 17?
im not gonna lie, the reason i want the omen is because it's the only gaming laptop that doesnt look like a spaceship
Fr, the back panel is honestly so subtle and beautiful
same. but my budget only allowed me to get Pavilion Gaming 15 T_T. Still a great machine but still.
You forgot the Razer Blades! But those just cost as much as a spaceship.
How about the Zephyrus G14. It also happens to not look like a spaceship and has excellent battery life!
I removed the RTX and 144hz screen stickers and nobody knows that i'm using a gamer laptop at my office
I just want to thank you for including a full brightness graph including minimum brightness, i have a chronic disease that makes me very sensitive to light and without your reviews id struggle to find a laptop i can use as no one else does this and the information is very difficult to find. Ive just signed up to your patreon, keep up the brilliant work.
Are you the one from Discord who uses a $250 e-ink display?
Have you tried night light? It's the windows blue filter
Hey, just figured I'd tell you that with the app f.lux, you can further decrease the brightness of any display beyond the minimum. Hope that information is useful to you.
@@vulkov I'll check it out, thank you.
You could also try "Nelson Pires Dimmer" which reduces the brightness as much as you want
Jarrod doesn't review, he does a research thesis.
It’s the only laptop tech UA-camr I trusted. He help me choose the best laptop with the depth comparison.
Have you ever thought of making a laptop tier list??? That would be awesome
Pertaining to the battery drain when plugged in, some companies are doing this on purpose in order to save wear and tear on the battery. Rather than continually topping off the battery to 100 percent, they allow it to drain and keep the percentage at a "sweet spot". I believe there is a bottom threshold, though. For a previous laptop I believe it would never go lower than 51%. This may not be the case here, just wanted to give my 2 cents.
Bob of all trades covered this exact issue , you are right
My Legion has this feature as well, and you can toggle it on or off from their software easily.. honestly i find the it really helpful since laptop batteries never last very long, literally both of my old (laptops) ones dies immediately after a few months
Jarrod u were working so hard, thanks!
Was waiting for this review.
Yayy Omen 15 2021 Review!! ❤
I have owned several gaming laptops during my by now long life and I can tell you right now the Omen gaming laptops are simply put: The greatest ever made. Period. I have had mine now for four years, runs like a charm, doesn't heat up too much and the noise levels are nothing compared to all other gaming laptops.
If I'm looking for a gaming/ school work laptop should this one be near the top of my list?
@@dagotowka9191 100% no other gaming laptop like it IMHO.
I really appreciate your no nonsense approach to these videos. Thank you for your hard work !
thanks for uploading it this soon jarrod, hoping the legion 5's review will come soon
This Friday! But Wednesday will also be a Legion 5 Pro video so get ready 😄

I watched your other omen 15 laptop video yesterday. Today you are coming with this video. U're amazing man. Keep going like this
Thank you for this. This is the coolest laptop I know that you have tested so far.
Hey Jarrod amazing video as always. Just a suggestion - can you increase volume on your videos. As someone who watches them on my phone speaker I would really appreciate it of you can make it louder. Keep the great content coming👍
Waiting for Strix g15 and legion 5 reviews! Rlly enjoy ur vids

Nice review! Eagerly waiting for the Scar 15 vs Legion 7 comparison, any ETA?
This channel really great, i never find channel review notebook complete like this. Even in 11:42 , you check wifi in motherboard
hey jarrod there is this thing with omen battery it has some advance battery optimizer in bios , enabling that will reduce battery charging capacity based on your usage also under heavy load when plugged in it deliberately stops charging the battery and starts to charge again...i think it reduces over heating of the power brick and also increases battery health.
I’m pretty surprised that’s not enabled by default, huh
It is
After 50% battery it starts going back up, even under load.
This was enabled by default in the BIOS.
@@JarrodsTech thanks!
Thanks for this review too! 2:58 breaks my heart - cannot believe this is a MUX-less laptop :( Would have been perfect for me otherwise.
Thanks for the review man 👍
No problem, thanks for watching!
U r the best reviewer I ever seen
Your Reviews are amazing bro, Love from Sri Lanka
Glad you like them!
Is there a chance that you'll review a laptop with desktop CPU? Like the ones Hasee makes (they recently announced the new ones with intel 11400 and 11700).
We definitely need to address this keyboard issue that most of the HP Omen 15 models (2020/2021) have, some letters stop working after a few months and even after HP repair under warranty the issue comes back after time!!
Im waiting for the legion 5(non pro) for 2021. As always, awesome video Jarrod!!!
Me too! 17" 5600h+3060
Yes exactly.
What's the difference between non pro and pro???
@@himanshuaggarwal7 the pro has 16 inch screen, qhd 165hz display with 16:10 aspect ratio,is a bit heavier too
Pro costs more 😂
Great work as always. Would you do a comparison btw legion vs omen 2021?
Thanks for this review. I just got the OMEN 15 but i was surprised it doesn't have the RGB light keyboard but only white.
No problem!
Thanks for these reviews, Jarrod. They're super educational for those of us trying to pick a good gaming laptop. My only question is about freesync. Do we have any idea of the freesync range of this year's Omen 15? I recall last year's 4800H model having a noticeably worse range than the legion 5's and I'm trying to figure out which to buy between this year's Omen and Legion 5 models.
Thanks
Why are you buying a new laptop every year ?
40-60hz
Plz make a review of the tiger lake-h laptops ! I'm really curious to see how will it compares aganist ryzen
They do pretty well. But the nanometre matters. Ryzen is more efficient
I purchased an Omen 15 AMD Ryzen 5 5600H 512GB SSD 16GB DDR SDRAM with the 3060 GPU for under $1000 US during HP's Black Friday Sale in July. Lenovo Legion's are still in limited supply and higher priced. I'm happy with my choice.
Just had a cool idea for a more objective test of noise levels - adjust the fans manually so they reach 45 or 50 dB, and then see what clock speeds/temps it can achieve. This would obviously only work for laptops with manual fan modes which could be restricting.
Nice reviewing!
Btw will the zephyrus M16 review come out?
Really wish makers would have the SD cards insert flush with the chassis for us that like to leave them in all the time. I have to see if the reduce sized adapters will work, my laptop has the cards stick out 3mm when locked in.
this Laptop is a huge step up from my current laptop from 8 years tbh
Me: So what's new for this year?
HP: Two rubber nubs.
good video, between the HP and the lenovo legion 7 for you which would be the best laptop, construction performance screen which would be the most complete
Things which I need and can't afford..
And still watching the video gives another kind of satisfaction...
Hello,
Are you reviewing the new Samsung Book Pro? Looks like a neat laptop! Anywho, keep up the good content!
Love the videos! Although, one question. Watch Dogs 2 isn't a new game anymore, and I feel like newer games would push laptops more towards their limits and reveal their thermal performance under those conditions. Could you use newer games like MW 2019 or something else graphically intensive for those thermal performance graphs?
I agree. Go for intensive games.
Excited for legion 5 pro full review
Hi Jarrod, can you please make a small review of the different configuration of this HP OMEN 15, which is the AMD RYZEN 5 5600h and the RTX 3060 configuration, because from where I'm from, Asia, we only have this configuration and one more which is the INTEL CPU version. So I really hope you'll help us out.
Will you be doing a review on the Dell G15? Really curious about how it compares to this, especially since Dell is using a new Alienware style design for the new G15 series.
Looking forward to the day you review laptop with Ryzen 5 5600H processor
I bought this laptop one month a go and im so satisfied with its performance and design . The thermals are so good during intensive high demanding games temperature will hover between 63 to 77 C , connected to external TV i can get easily 4K HDR resolution without any stuttering at 60 fps . Ryzen 7 plus RTX 3070 make this machine a beast . overall nice design ,sturdy build up and powerful performance , so satisfied with it
4:37 One review I watched mentioned this was a feature to prevent battery overcharge or heat damage during heavy gaming sessions, and that it would never drop below 50% charge. Is this true?
It a feature found in most new Omen and Pavilion gaming laptops called "Adaptive Battery Optimizer". It can be disabled in the BIOS, but I wouldn't recommend doing so.
It's enabled by default in the BIOS, doesn't seem like a great solution to me compared to other laptops that let you just pick a charge level in software so you actually know what's going on.
@@JarrodsTech Pros and cons. Setting it in BIOS means that you don't need the Windows 10 software to be running for the battery protection to work. Jarrod, you not knowing about the feature and acting like it was an insufficient power brick may have been an honest mistake but you really need to fix this video. You made a lot of people think there's a problem where there wasn't one.
@@Fulle84 take a comparison. even the last year's legion 5 was equipped w 230w brick, therefore its capable of running the cpu upto 65w and GPU capped at 80w without any battery drain. so just admit that this laptop sucks with its underpowered 200w
@@apiis 200w power supply is sufficient to keep up with the power draw, but some laptops allow for some drain under heavy load to reduce the chance of the battery bloating. The power supply would mainly be an obstacle if you wanted to run a custom bios or something to push the system harder than manufacturer settings.
Hello, im new to this
Can you make a video about a guide to buy a laptop
what a gaming laptop should have to consider buying it
Thank you keep it up
hey man ive been watching your videos , which wa the most impressive laptop you've come across as of thermals and well having silent fan noise at the same time?
Hi Jarrod, can you do a review for the new HP Victus?
loved the detailed explanation.
however still a bit confused. Should I buy it?. Currently it's the only one fitting my budget with a rtx 3070.
or should I try other model downgrading rtx model to 3060? may be legion 5 with rtx 3060?
Nice! It seems that you can remove the fans without taking off the cooling, can you please confirm?
Hi Jarrod loving the videos. I will hopefully be going to university soon and I want to buy a good gaming laptop for university, any you could recommend to me?
Great Video like always. So here you have a comment from me fpr the algorythm. Have a great day.
Jarrod, how much trouble would it be to include some kind of VR benchmark? My niece tried mine out, and my brother and I were thinking of getting her a headset, and a laptop; I don’t think all gaming laptops are VR compatible, but I figured that you’d know if they are. I’m not really wanting anything super in-depth, but I know that even things that appear minor to the viewers can and will have a huge impact on the creator’s workload. I just figured I’d ask since with how big your channel’s getting, there’s probably a larger amount of people curious about VR. But yeah, I’m not expecting a plethora of games to be tested or anything; I’m just more interested in a ballpark guess for the stability and performance.
Thanks! I know you’re swamped with tons of anticipated reviews and like my job, you’re probably busiest in the spring, and late 3rd/early 4th quarter. The rush of getting everything out on time, and then being on cruise control, only for things to ramp up again is something I can promise you I relate to. Hahahaha
Pretty much anything with rtx will work. I also recommend making sure the display ports and HDMI ports are connected directly to the dedicated GPU. VR will not work with integrated graphics. If you watch this channel he will tell you if the ports are connected to the GPU.
Hi Jarrod, any chance of review 2021 msi gs66 stealth with rtx3070 model? Would like to see how the performance tho.. 😊
The omen laptops also have had keyboard ghosting problems for a long time
Can you please make a video stating your favourite gaming laptops in 2021? would love to hear your opinion before buying a laptop.
LoL we aren't even half way through the year yet and there a ton of laptops release yet.
@Jarrod'sTech can you do a review of the hp omen 16 which has a RTX 3070 with a higher TGP of 115W?
Great review like always!
Will u also review the dell g15? :D
I reckon that will be the best laptop this year!
@@JoeMaranophotography it will be definitly way better then the older dell g laptops. But as far as I know the rtx 3060 has in the model with intel only 90w
@@mr3_def I'm pretty happy with my last gen G5 5500 i7 10750h RTX 2070MQ
Repasted with just mx2 and I can play Cyberpunk with gameshift on 4.3ghz at around 90 degrees. In balanced mode 3.6ghz and 77 degree cpu and 67 gpu. Just using laptop cooler too.
@@JoeMaranophotography yea but build quality and keyboard weren't that great and cooling also wasnt that great. I mean u needed a repaste and a cooler to hit 90 degrees. The new cooling and stuff is much better on the g15
@@mr3_def Yeah it is supposed to be. I have an extra 3 years on site warranty on purpose just in case haha
Does the USB-C port support Thunderbolt 3? I go to HP's website and they are unclear if it does. Thanks for the review!
I've bought 2020 version but unfortunately had to return it. The left fan is producing a high pitched noise when spinning at low rpm. When you Google it, it seems like a lot of Omen laptops suffer the same issue. Its a shame as apart from that its a really nice laptop and I would love to keep it but having such noise constantly when browsing is unacceptable. Surprisingly when fans were off there was no coil noise at all which is not that obvious with many laptops.
Can you consider benchmarking in CPU bound games? There are some, like WoW. And these benchmarkings would be welcome.
hi, I love your video and i would like ask you if this laptop Is good in 2023 for video editing and 3d animation for 900 euro? Thanks for any support from Italy
I have the Legion 5 from last year and it has a bit of a nasty sharp bottom lip where the palm rests. Omen seems very similar. I would like them to address this in the future.

Hey jarrod ^^
Any info on M16 battery life? 0-0
Why will it matter less if we are using 1440p screen? In case of CPU - 35W and GPU - 100W limit. I'm curious since I ordered that version.
Are the wrist rests uncomfortably sharp?
I suppose the upside of having a lower w limit on the GPU and CPU means the battery is less likely to start malfunctioning as usually happens after a few years of gaming
That was my thinking exactly. I figured the hardware will last longer if they weren't pushed too hard.

Hi, just wondering if I should game in balanced or performance mode. Also, is 90+ degrees celsius CPU temperature common while gaming?
Consider reviewing rtx 3060 ryzen 5 model. There are not so many reviews out there😭
Jarrod, i have one question.
How does the so-called 'balance mode' have higher temps compared to performance mode while it clocked lower?
same did you get the answer ?
One more thing, the 40-60 Hz Freesync has been fixed on the 2020 4800H with 2060 omen.. HP just released an update for the AMD drivers which now enables full 60-144Hz freesync.
Don't know if this update also rolled out to the 2021 Omen as well
How can I switch from i5 to ryzen with rtx370, I know I have to buy a new motherboard but where ?
I bought this laptop after your review and I'm pleased with it(same specs). The only issue I have is with the power supply getting heated too much. Did you have this problem during your testing? Or did anyone else? Also if it's worth mentioning, I have it plugged into a 220v. The specs say input can range up to 240v so I guess this doesn't matter? Also, i haven't noticed any battery drain during gameplay(adaptive battery enabled in bios by default)
I notice thus laptop does not have a fingerprint reader. Does it support Windows Hello or any other technique to log in without typing a password?
@@johnfr2389 no it doesnt. It has built in bluetooth which can be used with an Android app to login with the mobile fingerprint or push notification

about the real time latency results, bob's review shows that it fails it (from longer usage) but you can tweak it, how do you do that
Would undervolting help the CPU in this case? Is it possible for this laptop and this BIOS/and CPU combination ?
hey jarrod, not sure if you'll read this. but imma give a try.
just gotten my hp omen 15, ryzen 5 5600h 8gb ram, rtx 3060 6gb and out of the box, i'm experiencing high CPU temps based on core temp. during idle, CPU temps average at 60°C with little to no software running in background. it gets worse when gaming (played overwatch in my testing - pls dont burn me i still think it's fun), as CPU temps can go as high as 95-100°C while GPU seem high too at 70°C.
is there something i should be configuring? appreciate your advice here. (great video btw, loving ur content)
Is high-density ram present in this model? Would any benefit be realized when switching out the ram?
Should I get the Intel version of this laptop since I believe optimus can be disabled?
Please can you check the charging adapter, dose it range from 100-220 V, because i want to ship this laptop from the US. Thank you for your great work, i like your videos❤️
