    The Kobudo Asayama Ichiden Ryu, of which Seki Sensei is the 22nd headmaster, was one of the most popular Ryuha styles during the Edo period. In our golden age, we had over 7,000 students nationwide. Today, we only have 100 students. Our dream is to revive the golden age of Asayama Ichiden Ryu while Seki Sensei is still the headmaster. We want future generations to remember Seki Sensei as the legendary Sōké who brought back the glory of our Ryuha. Your donations will be used to cover Shogo's travel expenses to visit the main dojo from Kyoto, UA-cam video shooting costs, online lesson operation costs, and training camps in Japan and overseas.

    to quote Bruce Lee "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." the same goes for any martial art. practice becomes skill. skill becomes instinctual.

    I’m devouring these videos and practicing daily. Years of sparing and backyard cutting practice… I’m good at sniping hits and getting hit in the hands. I only say that to say: my footwork is awful and always has been…. I am truly grateful for your labors of getting this art to the world… and me. I need an iaito… and then I hope to join classes!
    I’ve always dreamed of being proficient with sword enough to become in instructor so I can live life with much more sword time. I’m retired. I’d love the dream opportunity.
    Oh this went long.. apologies, but again, sincere thanks to translator and Sensei!

    I think a lot of people after repetition will notice the footwork and body alignment come naturally. I noticed myself when practicing something simple like chudan uchi with a sai. Eventually my body began adjusting beyond the simple step to zenkustu dachi and strike. Things like hip movements, posture and movement of the knee to name a few. Come to find out these were focused on at higher levels. It's like our subconscious competence and body itself guide us where we need to be.

    Shogo, would you still suggest each of these exercises with a medium size suburitō? Should any be excluded if you are using the heavier sword?

    • @letsasksekisensei
      @letsasksekisensei  4 місяці тому +2

      If you could correctly use the axis of your body to swing your katana, then you should be able to do all these exercises without a problem!

      @@letsasksekisensei thanks; correct body mechanics is always key and with the added weight of the big bokken I always want to be extra careful. I’ll follow along at home slowly ;-)

    Man, it's unfortunate for me that the katana is almost constantly swung downwards like that, makes my low ceiling a bit of an issue...

    I am let handed/dominant. Feels very awkward having the right hand be main hand for sword. Is it ok to learn left handed or should I adapt to the right hand?

      If you're self teaching, do what you want. No one can judge you except yourself. If you plan to join someone else and their teaching, do it their way. Simple.

      @Erduk I'm asking I guess if it all puts me at a disadvantage? With kickboxing it helped me to make it open engagement rather than closed and threw people off. I would like to learn not just to pass a test but be efficient
