Both defenses played bad but here’s the difference. One defense was regarded as the #1 defense in the league while the other was considered average. Bills defense didn’t rise to the occasion like they should have.
Another Chiefs fan and you guys have nothing to be ashamed of. The Bills have made me a fan of your team as well. I don't know if we could have won that game if we were on the road in your house. But I think if we played each other 10 times it would be a 5/5 split. As one of the greatest games I have ever seen. It came down to who ever had the football last was gonna win. The vaunted Buffalo defense couldn't hold the Chiefs passing attack for 13 seconds at the end of regulation and totally collapsed in OT. Yes, a squib kick would have taken a few seconds off the clock, but a truly sound defense ought to be able to hold any team from scoring for 13 seconds. I don't know what defensive scheme the Bills were playing during those 13 seconds, but it functioned like the old "prevent" zone defense that only seems to prevent teams from winning. Why change from what was working most of the game? But Buffalo's defensive woes were not limited to the last two KC drives. Over the course of the game, Buffalo allowed 42 points. The "best defense in the NFL" shouldn't allow any team to score 42 points. Buffalo has a good team, but to contend for the Super Bowl, the defense needs to be much better than it was last night. Buffalo's defensive backs are catching all kinds of criticism from the fans, but some of that ire ought to be reserved for the pass rush, which couldn't get to Mahomes when the chips were down. To beat the KC passing attack, you must make Mahomes roll to his left and hurry the throw; when he has time to sit in the pocket and let pass patterns develop, his efficiency goes way up. The KC receivers are simply too fast for any DBs to cover them for long. The rushing offense bears some responsibility for the loss, too. Buffalo only rushed for 109 yards last night. To beat KC, you must be able to run the ball consistently to keep it out of Mahomes hands. The Bills put up 329 passing yards in a heroic effort, but the result would have been very different if the Bills had been able to run the ball and work the clock when needed. Finally, this game was far from one-sided. Josh Allen found some weaknesses in the KC secondary too. After all, Buffalo put up 36 points against KC at home and almost won the game. If the KC coaches are not worried about that this morning, they ought to be. KC came within 13 seconds of being out of the playoffs, and Cincinnati was taking notes.

Try to play our week 5 defense with Levi and Dane on those speedsters. Zone defense and keeping everything in front of us and winning a shootout is what the loss of Tre forced us into. We almost pulled it off. Turns out, we needed one defensive splash play. When you are forced into that type of game, you expect that one or two of those long drives gets stalled. With Tre out there, we win this game running away. We stall them out more. If there is one issue that has eaten at me ever since the draft, it’s double dipping at DE when we really needed cb depth. When Tre went down, the negligence not addressing that position was amplified. I can’t be mad at this team. Oh wait…when you are in that 13 second situation, you hold the hell out of Tyreek and Kelce. Take the 5 yard penalty and the 5-6 seconds off the clock. That advances them to the 30 yard line with 7-8 seconds remaining. THEN they need a miracle 70 yard play. I think that was the biggest mistake in the final 13 seconds.

There’s been a lot of talk about our defense yesterday but before the 4th quarter, we forced the chiefs to multiple punts and FGs. Only one of those stops translated into a Bills TD. We didn’t score enough TD’s following the defensive stops when we needed to.
Not to mention there was a catch near the end where the chiefs player had one foot clearly out of bounds they didn't even bother to review it I know it may not have made a difference but still? Even the announcers showed it right after anyways the bills defense should've played better

Before this game I kept thinking of how loud Arrowhead would be and how a loss to the god damn Jags with the Bills asleep at the wheel cost them the two seed and a slip in Tennessee cost them the 1 seed. They have got to play every single minute of every single game like it matters and that more than this result, was one of the most painful takeaways of this year. They just didn't -- they lost games that they should not have lost and it cost them dearly in the end. I don't think the Chiefs offense would have been able to hum like this in Buffalo.

It could be that I'm still calloused from Wide Right, but yeah, the pain from this is no where near Wide Right. We didn't talk after the game after Wide Right. Just silence. No one talked about the Bills the next day in school after Wide Right. Even the kids, that didn't like the Bills, didn't rib us about it, which was crazy 'cause they loved messing with us during the season when the Bills lost. They actually gave us time to grieve and process. It was a weird time. But yeah, I said the same thing to my daughter at the end of tonight's game. "There's still 13 seconds". Regarding the defense, that's another thing I told my daughter. "They need to play them straight up like they have all game. If they play prevent, KC will kick a FG". The defense couldn't stop KC most of the game, but you know when they did do? They slowed them down other than a couple plays. KC has to use a lot of clock and a lot of plays to move the ball on the Bills tonight. The Bills should have stuck to that same defense they played all game and made KC beat them with a miracle play , rather than handing them the FG on a silver platter by going "prevent".

I blame McDermott and I blame Frazier. You squib. 100%. That's not a question. And Frazier has been exposed multiple times this year, but this last offense is unforgivable. The Chiefs had timeouts, and this guy has them defending the sidelines. The Chiefs didn't have to make any Tyree helmet-catches. It was backyard football. Our secondary is not that bad. The only way that happens is if they're out of position because you called a terrible scheme.
Obviously, the Bills defense just gave Kansas City too much respect at the end of the game. Mahomes has a kind of mythical aura, which I believe caused Buffalo to abandon a logical coverage package. To Mahomes credit, he just took what the Bills gave him, 2 short passes to his best receivers with lots of running room.

I’ve said all year that the Bills defense is overrated. They played a cupcake schedule. Excluding the rainy stormy week 5 game they sucked against the good offenses they faced this season. It’s the same defense from last year. Do not get it twisted. What this team needs is a veteran star DE like Von Miller or Melvin Ingram. The defense got pressure today but you need someone that can finish the job. Levi Wallace is not bad but not great either. He’s the definition of an average cb. We cannot hang with KC using average CB’s.

While I don't want to take anything away from the greatness of Mahomes, Allen definitely had the better performance last night. The 2nd half of that game last night was more about Tyreek Hill putting KC on his back and willing them to victory. On top of that, you also cannot discount play calling, considering how open many of Mahomes targets were. Again, I'm not saying Mahomes didn't have a great game. I'm just saying he didn't have the game Allen had.

The Bills weren't just playing prevent defense, they were playing Hail Mary defense, meaning they were conceding 20 yards a throw. So that's not to take away from Mahomes, he took what was given to him, but the key part there is that the Bills gave it to him. What Hill did was different. The Bills weren't giving him anything, he was just making something out of nothing over and over again in that 4th Qtr.

There’s been a lot of talk about our defense yesterday but before the 4th quarter, we forced the chiefs to multiple punts and FGs. Only one of those stops translated into a Bills TD.
We didn’t score enough TD’s following the defensive stops when we needed to.
We gotta get faster at the corner back position. We need more than Levi and Dane.
Not to mention there was a catch near the end where the chiefs player had one foot clearly out of bounds they didn't even bother to review it I know it may not have made a difference but still? Even the announcers showed it right after anyways the bills defense should've played better
We're better off having an average defense because our defense wastes so much time off clock not giving up big plays, so JA17 and offense can get ball more!
The only negative that comes from this game is a lot of sniveling BS about changing the OT rules. The rules were already changed recently. They don't need to be changed again.

Before this game I kept thinking of how loud Arrowhead would be and how a loss to the god damn Jags with the Bills asleep at the wheel cost them the two seed and a slip in Tennessee cost them the 1 seed. They have got to play every single minute of every single game like it matters and that more than this result, was one of the most painful takeaways of this year. They just didn't -- they lost games that they should not have lost and it cost them dearly in the end. I don't think the Chiefs offense would have been able to hum like this in Buffalo.

It could be that I'm still calloused from Wide Right, but yeah, the pain from this is no where near Wide Right. We didn't talk after the game after Wide Right. Just silence. No one talked about the Bills the next day in school after Wide Right. Even the kids, that didn't like the Bills, didn't rib us about it, which was crazy 'cause they loved messing with us during the season when the Bills lost. They actually gave us time to grieve and process. It was a weird time. But yeah, I said the same thing to my daughter at the end of tonight's game. "There's still 13 seconds".
Regarding the defense, that's another thing I told my daughter. "They need to play them straight up like they have all game. If they play prevent, KC will kick a FG". The defense couldn't stop KC most of the game, but you know when they did do? They slowed them down other than a couple plays. KC has to use a lot of clock and a lot of plays to move the ball on the Bills tonight. The Bills should have stuck to that same defense they played all game and made KC beat them with a miracle play , rather than handing them the FG on a silver platter by going "prevent".

This game came down to one thing - the final 13 seconds of regulation. This wasn't a "they made one more play than we did" game. We had the game in our hands, and we blew it. I blame McDermott and I blame Frazier. You squib. 100%. That's not a question. And Frazier has been exposed multiple times this year, but this last offense is unforgivable. The Chiefs had timeouts, and this guy has them defending the sidelines. The Chiefs didn't have to make any Tyree helmet-catches. It was backyard football. Our secondary is not that bad. The only way that happens is if they're out of position because you called a terrible scheme.
Obviously, the Bills defense just gave Kansas City too much respect at the end of the game. Mahomes has a kind of mythical aura, which I believe caused Buffalo to abandon a logical coverage package. To Mahomes credit, he just took what the Bills gave him, 2 short passes to his best receivers with lots of running room.
Nothing positive about losing a game like this. Because you never know what next year is going to bring. Injuries etc.

I’ve said all year that the Bills defense is overrated. They played a cupcake schedule. Excluding the rainy stormy week 5 game they sucked against the good offenses they faced this season. It’s the same defense from last year. Do not get it twisted. What this team needs is a veteran star DE like Von Miller or Melvin Ingram. The defense got pressure today but you need someone that can finish the job. Levi Wallace is not bad but not great either. He’s the definition of an average cb. We cannot hang with KC using average CB’s.
We will never get a good defensive end because most of them come with baggage and McDermott loves the good choir boys that are upstanding citizens! Atleast we get more jerry Hughes and Mario Addison though!

While I don't want to take anything away from the greatness of Mahomes, Allen definitely had the better performance last night. The 2nd half of that game last night was more about Tyreek Hill putting KC on his back and willing them to victory.
On top of that, you also cannot discount play calling, considering how open many of Mahomes targets were.
Again, I'm not saying Mahomes didn't have a great game. I'm just saying he didn't have the game Allen had.

The Bills weren't just playing prevent defense, they were playing Hail Mary defense, meaning they were conceding 20 yards a throw. So that's not to take away from Mahomes, he took what was given to him, but the key part there is that the Bills gave it to him.
What Hill did was different. The Bills weren't giving him anything, he was just making something out of nothing over and over again in that 4th Qtr.
