You just read a spec sheet out. I could've found this out going to GSMArena myself. I have the XZ3 and there are many gripes that could be deal breakers for many people. First, the touch input sucks. I have a video demo of this on my channel, but essentially the registered touch input on the bottom half of the screen is at a lower position than where your finger is touching the screen. The reverse applies to the top half. Touch inputs fine in the middle. Secondly, the curved glass uses touch prevention, understandably, because it is easier to trigger when you're rocking the phone without a case. However, when using the keyboard, the q and p are already half-eaten by these deadzones which refuse to register touches, even if Side Sense is off. For the next one, put your finger on the top right curved glass, and bring up the keyboard. Now type "o" repeatedly to find that the touch will also register "p" from time to time. If you're holding the phone same as me, this will be a deal breaker. This can be solved by a case. The camera is shit. Everyone agrees on this fact. Sony software ruins the image. Try it with Open Camera and see for yourself, especially HDR. Also there's no GCam port because there's no RAW support. No headphone jack. Why? The fingerprint scanner is slow and always take a few tries to unlock. I think the idea is to slide your finger into the reader, but even so, it is hard to use. Not to mention the unusually low placement. The P-OLED screen used is best-in-class, but not without flaws. Limit the brightness to 50% and look at anything white and you'll see grain and noise on the screen; a well-known trait of P-OLED screens. Same problem here with LG and Pixel phones. And don't look at any jpeg artefacts or you'll see the XZ3 puke out random junk noise all over the image. Oh and there's a noticeable banding on UA-cam too, mainly because UA-cam sucks, but it's more banding than an LCD. AMOLED does everything better in this regard. There's also no gestures option or even the option to hide the navigation bar. Immersive mode doesn't work properly as of the latest firmware update. The buttons do go away, but the bar doesn't, so in apps that support Immersive mode, there's a giant black bar with no buttons on the bottom of your screen. Enjoy. Videos in portrait mode works fine though, but not on Chrome. This seems to be a Pie bug. Oh, if you're thinking of unlocking the Bootloader, don't forget to back up your DRM keys or your camera won't work! Finally, for £699, how is it we are still stuck with 64GB and 4GB of RAM when OnePlus has 128GB + 8GB for cheaper? I would really want to like this phone, and especially when I got it for cheap, but it just wasn't a good experience (touch input problem for example). Plus, my Honor View 10 powered by Kirin 970 (in Performance mode) is somehow able to trade blows with this phone. All in all not a good investment.
2 great phones but a shame there are no Compact versions in the horizon! The XZ2 Compact is only available from O2 for sim deals, which would put a huge dent on sales for Sonys small phone market. There are so many great phones out there including Sony that can rival any big branded flagship out there but just don't get the exposure they deserve.
Three things, 1 the battery capacity wtf. 3300 mah for 999 euros 💶... Lack of 3.5 mm from the manufacturer who did invented the Walkman.. And the price is very high !!! For sure it will be the best smartphone display in the world.. Also maybe the best camera and of course the performance is at the top 🔝.
Sony has great battery optimization with Stamina Mode and Battery Care along with Android Pie which all will help with battery life. "Sony’s new Xperia 1 marks a change of approach for Sony, Trusted Reviews says. The phone features a triple-camera system with the BIONZ X image processing engine, RAW noise reduction, manual control of shutter speed and ISO, 21:9/4K/HDR/24fps video recording, optical and electronic image stabilization, 2x optical zoom, 10fps (with AF/AE), and Eye AF (the first in a smartphone)." Worth my money 👍
@@SonyEnthusiast I know all that. Im a Sony user and maybe in late 2019 I'll buy one when get shipper lol but tell me why I need optimization if u can put 4000 mah instead.. And OK great optimization than give me 3 days of battery use not one day with optimization. It's a fact it's true. Only if this phone can stand fully day without "stamina ! Also 999 euros 💶 is so high we talking about Sony it's straggling in smartphone business.
@@slmts6705 Sony may be struggling in their mobile department, but they are successful in gaming, audio, TV, and camera departments. With the new xperia line, they may make a comeback. Also, the price is not outrageous. Flagships are just luxuries. If you can't afford it, then get a budget or midrange phone like the xperia 10 plus. Also, understand that Android Pie and the new chipset will be very efficient on top of Stamina Mode and Battery Care. In the end, it all boils down to the user. I don't got time to watch movies, play games, etc. on my phone for 7-8 hours straight on one sitting. Do you do this?

@@slmts6705 Samsuck has bad battery optimization even though it has a big battery. This is 2019, so forget the jack and use truly wireless headphones or earbuds. Or use the dongle smh. And the on screen fingerprint sensor is a gimmick along with the battery share smh. At least Sony listened and put the fingerprint on the side this time instead of on the back really low. We'll find out the battery once a UA-camr gets to do a full review in it, but like I said, Sony has great battery optimization. Answer my question : do you spend 7-8 hours straight on your phone?
Mixed feelings on the battery size (3,300 mAh pushing the 4K OLED Screen) as I am disappointed with that on my S10 Plus , despite its 4,100 mAh battery! It kinda gets you through the day, no more, there is no way you will not have to charge it ready for the next day. I find I am getting better battery life on my Pixel 3XL. No bloat on the Pixel helps, no doubt. I suspect battery optimisation is far more important in determining battery performance.
My huawei p20 pro has a 4000mah battery... Compared to my old xperia xz premium with 3240mah it has no chance against the Sony... The software is better optimized and the battery is more efficient than the huaweis... Just my experience. And the capacity of the battery decreased very fast over the past few months... While the almost 18 months old Sony is still like on the first day... Due to the excellent software like battery care and smart charge

I'm currently using the Sony XA Ultra and thinking of upgrade to either one of these phones. Would you recommend I wait for the Xperia 1 or upgrade to the XZ3. The XZ3 is currently $669. That's the cheapest I can find. I heard the Xperia 1 will be $999 so XZ3 is more than $300 less. My main concern will be the camera because it will be my back up camera when I travel. I'm currently using their high end alpha camera, the a9.
I never understand these 1 year upgrade questions. To me it's obvious that it's not since the phone you just got is powerful enough to last 2 more years. I don't think it's worth it at all for any company as every company is making their phones with at least 3 years worth of use from their build quality
Depends on what you value most in a phone. Xperia 1 has a better display, camera, and specs. The XZ3 has a more unique design for a Sony phone. I'm going X 1 personally. I prefer the better design and cutting edge features and specs.
I became a fan of Sony phones when I unexpectedly walked out of the store with an XZ2 a year ago, after having enough of the Apple and Samsung bullshit. Apple is way overpriced, and Samsung keeps messing up Android with all kinds of unnecessary extras that just slow down the phone and eat battery - and completely oversaturated screen colors. But, despite how much I still love my XZ2 with its great performance and awesome battery life (way better than XZ3 btw), I feel like Sony keeps making one unforgivable mistake with every phone. This time, it's the battery size. I also think the phone is way too tall with its 21:9 aspect ratio. It's actually quite a lot taller than a galaxy S10+. And the bezels are large for a 2019 flagship
Notches and holes aren't appealing to me, so I rather have a slight bezel. Also, Sony has great battery optimization with Stamina Mode and Battery Care along with Android Pie which all will help with battery life. The 21:9 display is what theatrical movies use and it's perfect for multi-tasking. Yiu can also minimize the screen for one handed use if necessary. "Sony’s new Xperia 1 marks a change of approach for Sony, Trusted Reviews says. Thanks and a Great wid. It was a lot of thinking and in August i decide i'l keep my xz premium. Best Phone i had so far. I droped it and it broked. I found xz3 and bought it. Thanks guys for doing this. It helped me a lot. My finale dicision was that 5G Will never hit the country side here and I dont like the new ones with 21/9. Shit happens and I was going for the i10 but i love Sony and I see a lot of us do so because it's a Sony. 👍👍👍
I own both and the Xperia 1 is massively more beautiful in my personal opinions although I prefer the much more vibrant colors on my xz3, other than that I give everything to the ONe
The camera is probably going to be much better on the Xperia 1, and it definitely should be because Sony smartphones have very disappointing camera performance.
I think Sony is finally got the right idea and have made the right phone that could attract people. But now the question is is Sony going to actually have an advertising budget for the Xperia 1, and will they actually market and promote it?
Any differences from an audio perspective? External speakers, wireless earphones or wired ear phones? I like Sony phones but the main thing putting me off is the battery capacity. For a larger phone I’d really have expected 4000mAh.
I had for 2 weeks the XZ3 and really I loved each second of the amazing display but I sell it due to camera performances as compared with my R1 are really poor
Look man, it's real 4K Cinema Camera, no it's not just any camera phone anymore. If you really use it's features, no mobile battery can support you. So obviously you would need a huge power bank plugged in while you are using Cine Alta. Which is why it's unwise for a techno smart like Sony to make it bigger putting a bigger battery. I'm not even a fan of wirelss charging, that's so slow charging for Cine Alta. If you ain't a pro, then don't use a phone made for pro only. Use other Sony Phones instead or iPhone
I would have bought this phone if it wasn't for the battery size. Currently using the Mate 20 Pro and what a beast with the 4200mah. I can't imagine giving up 900 mah to go with the Xperia 1. Sony should have planted a 4000 mah battery then it would be completely a different game all together
i have a Sony xz premium 4k hdr screen and it lasts a very long time, all day for sure unless your one of the people who have their settings on sun brightness. lol but ya i was concerned until i realized the guy next too me has a bigger battery but dies faster... i was highly confused untill i did more research.
Oled screens are much more energy efficient on battery usage than the old xz premium screen and if they use the latest microchips in the phone also they will be more efficient too and the sony stamina mode is also pretty effective, plus the phone tells you when it's going to run out of juice under current usage rates in the battery app so you know ........it's not hard to plug it in.....also you can just wireless charge them with a Qi case or adapter........getting hung up on batteries when you can take mobile charge packs with you and they are dirt cheap on amazon.....just say no dude and get it
"4K" resolution on this screen size is useless, the battery could be bigger, the camera has a bump, practicality of 21:9 AR is questionable. SD 855 is 7 nm, so it should be either more powerful (questionable advantage), or more energy efficient. Camera has (as mentioned) bigger pixels than XZ3, larger aperture and OIS. Great placement of fingerprint sensor. XZ3 has no camera bump, some markets got 6 GB of RAM, display resolution and AR is more reasonable, its price will continue to drop. XZ3 camera is nothing to write home about, but still decent. Fingerprint sensor has the worst placement ever (on the back). Curved screen might be deal breaker for some (although it's not curved that much). Both are great phones, both have some disadvantages. Since I refuse to pay 1000 EUR for a phone, I'm considering to buy XZ3 in the near future. If the price drops a bit more.
4k is not useless. I switched to Samsung s10. Plus coming from an XZ Premium. Everyone I show can see the difference that my 2 year old 4k XZ Premium is sharper and more color accurate than my samsung s10 plus. Also fingerprint placement below is horrible.its not Natural for the thumb to scrunch down. Xz3 while not as good as powered fingerprint scanner is actually very easy. Fingerprint is halfway on the phone. Unless u have trouble knowing what half of anything is. Just align the power button that is halfway and ull be aligned with fingerprint scanner on the Xz3
@@_____0__ Samsung S10 dot pitch: 0,0483 mm, Xperia XZ Premium dot pitch: 0,0315 mm. Now: "The near point of the eye is 25 cm. The visual acuity of perfect vision (20/10) is 150 microradians, so that person could resolve two points separated by as little as 38 microns (about 1/670 of an inch)." These are very generous numbers. I have myopia, the closest I can focus my eyes is about 12 cm. My old phone has dot pitch of 0,0813 mm. From 12cm distance, I can barely see individual pixels on a single color background. On one-pixel wide lines, I can see them, only because of the shitty sub-pixel layout of OLED displays. From 25 cm, holding the phone in my hand with tiny movements, they are impossible to see. Seeing the difference between 0,0483 mm and 0,0315 mm at normal reading distances is straight up lie. No human has eyesight that good. If you and your friends have, go see a doctor, you might be unique and earn a lot of money with it. My computer monitor has dot pitch of 0,2652 mm. Each sub-pixel is then 0,0884 mm wide. On white background, I can barely, BARELY see them from 12 cm. Color accuracy. I'm not sure what calibrated color-critical display you are comparing it with, or what spectrophotometer you used to measure it, but vivid, overly saturated colors don't equal accurate colors. I also doubt an IPS display with black level of around 0,1 cd/m^2 can look even remotely good. That's light grey, or light blue in dark room. This goes for any IPS display. How do you display a true red color, when blue and green sub-pixels always shine at 0,1 cd/m^2? Fingerprint on the back is a design fail, no matter if it's on the top, or in the middle. Your thumb controls the screen 100 % of the time you use your phone, no matter where on the screen. With this new, super-narrow display trend, the thumb controls mostly bottom half of the screen, where fingerprint sensor is supposed to be. Your other fingers just support the phone, they are not supposed to locate and search for anything. If your index finger is naturally resting on the longitudinal center line of the back of your phone, it means your index finger is constantly considerably bent. If you bend it only to locate the sensor, it means it's a hassle and you have to adjust your hand each time you want to unlock it. Not to mention it can't be unlocked while it's laying on a table. EDIT: Fingerprint sensors used to be commonly where "home" button was. Since the trend dictates we want phones with no bezels, they needed to remove the button with fingerprint sensor too. The technology for fingerprint sensor under display wasn't available at the time, so they put it on the back. That's the only reason it's there. It has nothing to do with convenience or ergonomics.
The size of the Xperia 1 is ridiculous, the aspect ratio pointless, the lack of wireless charging inadmissible and the continued absence of a headphone jack plain idiotic. In everything else it's a better phone than the XZ3.
Ridiculous? Smfh... I saw the similar sized xperia 10 plus in person today at Best Buy and it's the same exact length as my xperia xa2 ultra. But the plus has more screen to body ratio
In terms of screen, it is not worth upgrading. XZ3 support full 10bit HDR and covers full range of BT.2020. Xperia 1 only supports 8bit HDR with 2bit software smoothing, and does not fully cover BT.2020. That's why the color displayed looks a bit washed out on 1 than XZ3. If you prefer 4K, Xperia 1 renders as 643ppi only when displaying 4K contents, while only 420ppi for normal use. And the whole screen on 1 looks greenish when being held over 58 degrees, which is really weird.
Ok but the camera is way better than the xz3. "Sony’s new Xperia 1 marks a change of approach for Sony, Trusted Reviews says. I'm afraid Sony still haven't got a clue large bezels top and bottom and the camera sensors 1 micron small, The smaller pixels are the worse the picture quality is..
Lol, you haven't got a clue what you're talking about. You just want companies to follow mindless trends. I'm personally interested in the Xperia 1 because it has no ugly notch or camera cut out. And don't talk too early about the camera. Let's wait for results.

Great vid. Sony always seems to come up short with their devices. First, they never used to add OIS to the camera module and now they haven't fitted a decent battery, I mean 3,300mah, really. But like you said, they might have some clever management system to help with that.
@@manveerghuman5276 yea I know. My point was Sony always seem to omit something important from their devices. They got the OIS on this but the battery capacity is bad. If the battery was on point, it could easily take on the S10+ and the Mate 20 Pro. But not so much as it stands now. But I take your point
@@symzg5995 That is true where they always leave something, but I wouldn't worry about the battery, my XZ Premium has a 3230 mah battery and I get 1.25 days battery life with medium brightness and no stamina mode. Also the S855 chip will be even more efficient.

With the new xperia line, they may make a comeback. Also, the price is not outrageous. Flagships are just luxuries. Also, understand that Android Pie and the new chipset will be very efficient on top of Stamina Mode and Battery Care. In the end, it all boils down to the user.

@@saadiqG99 why?
Notches and holes aren't appealing to me, so I rather have a slight bezel. Also, Sony has great battery optimization with Stamina Mode and Battery Care along with Android Pie which all will help with battery life.

Hello guys,david here
Indonesia Gadgetin : Halo guys, david disini
Love sony

In terms of screen, it is not worth upgrading. XZ3 support full 10bit HDR and covers full range of BT.2020. Xperia 1 only supports 8bit HDR with 2bit software smoothing, and does not fully cover BT.2020. That's why the color displayed looks a bit washed out on 1 than XZ3. If you prefer 4K, Xperia 1 renders as 643ppi only when displaying 4K contents, while only 420ppi for normal use. And the whole screen on 1 looks greenish when being held over 58 degrees, which is really weird.
