Do you think the new version of this phone (Xperia 1 II ) would last for at least 3-4 years? In term of longevity like Apple does. Because I am using Galaxy s8 now and wanna change it (I got it in December 2017). I've had my Sony Xperia Z2 for almost 5 years now and it still works incredibly well! Sure it's a little behind on technology, but it's still super usable, and the camera quality is still respectable. Sony is quite underrated in the smartphone game.
The only problems with like a Z3 is the fact it's glass back, glass front and really hard to swap the battery (+ the flap that makes your USB port and SD & SIM card slot waterproof becomes loose) But otherwise? it's a really nice phone.
I had the z3v and unfortunately It slid off my car and completely shattered. I got an xperia xz premium, loved the 4k display, and now my xperia one is shipping next week. Once an xperia fan, always a fan. Sony makes great devices
@@SpencersStuffTV Back when iPhone 5 was still a fresh thing, i actually replaced it with an Z3 Compact because i needed the tougher type of phone for a while and afterwards even though it served me well i sold it to replace it with a really, really cheap Galaxy S6, well, my operator effed me over with that S6 and didn't get me one so i had to take a Galaxy A3 (same price, you can get why i went for the S6, oh and S8 was like just announced and not even out yet at that point so S6 was really, really good value for that 200 or so bucks converted) But yeah, the worst part about the A3 was the fact it's camera broke from unknown reason, all i know is that the top glass was shattered and that i had to change it, replaced it with a Moto C Plus. Even though i've had an iPhone and a Samsung and a Moto, i still somehow feel that i should get an Sony but they're always either way too high in price or don't give a perfect value for what it is, granted there was XZ3 for half the price just now on sale but... yeah. From all my experiences, i'd say that a Moto is perfect budget phone, reputable brand, decent quality and all-around just works and you usually can get them with good sales so you can even get a 400 phone for 100 or less. Meanwhile, an iPhone is like a really easy to use simplified phone that just works, it's expensive AF but you pay for the ecosystem and usability comfort. Samsung (Galaxy more precisely) is pretty much the iPhone of Android, a flagship type of phone that usually mixes multiple good things into one but shows that the fact you have everything or almost everything means it will cost a lot of money or you will lose in other things like battery capacity and such, also the software is very heavy to run. However, even though those three are basically best of their worlds, what is Sony on the other hand? well, they have just as good internals as the other flagships and Sony is well known for their Audio, Camera and Screen technologies which are probably nearly the best you can get in same package, the fact why Oneplus 7 Pro for example is technically "better" at marketing is the branding and the fact they use the great cameras that are MADE by Sony, so basically all that Sony is left with is their great screen. I think it was Austin who started to state that the only thing that you pay for/get in a higher grade phone nowadays is a better camera and that technically is true.
Xperia series has been the most underrated phone for the last 5 years, solid phones without throwing in all the useless "buzzword" trends and bragging about it.
There was once when Sony made solid phones like the Xperia Z and Z1. Then Sony made its downfall when the Z3 and Z5 devices launched. Until now Sony came back again.
Bullshit.I had the Xperia M4 Aqua, great phone but terrible storage management, and while the design was ahead of its era,the build quality was so low it couldnt protect the internals...
Sony's problem along with HTC is they don't put these phones on carrier subsidies anymore. If they would offer these phones through carriers again, I think it would be a great contender.
That side mounted fingerprint reader has been with Sony for a few years now. This is nothing new, if the YT community pays any attention, they would know Sony has been pioneering things from waterproofing to fingerprints and cameras for all the manufacturers for a well over than half a decade now.
@@kapilbusawah7169 Kinda It's a patent by Philips that wasn't really aimed at phones that's causing the problem. But their phones are the only side mounted power + fps on the market
The reason for the separate fingerprint scanner/power button implementation is due to a US patent that previously prevented Sony from having the fingerprint scanner enabled on their integrated power button/fingerprint scanning units on their Xperia lineup (such as the XZ1) in the US only. Sony changed to having the scanner on the back with the XZ2 and XZ3 before reverting slightly and making a compromise for the US market with the seperate implementation now found on the Xperia 10 and 1.
And the ironic thing about this is that the patent is owned by Apple. They don't even use fingerprint scanners anymore! Why would they own this patent? To scrutinize the others who actually want to make side-mounted fingerprint scanners?
GoldenRetroGaming Gaming Memes patents last for years and years regardless of whether you use the design or not. And deliberately holding on to a patent makes sense if you want to be prepared to use it again.

I have different feelings for Sony mobiles. Last time I loved one was a Sony Ericcson, before smartphones, that had really good music capabilities for the time.
I had a Sony Xperia something 5 years back or so. Admittedly it was a budget phone, but still.
The camera was amazing, but it had a tiny memory even for its time, and wouldnt allow installing apps on SD, so it was effectively a coffee cup holder with a good camera. Ten apps and it was full. Completely useless.

I really miss my Sony Ericsson Walkman W995. What a beast

I had the z3v and unfortunately It slid off my car and completely shattered. I got an xperia xz premium, loved the 4k display, and now my xperia one is shipping next week. Once an xperia fan, always a fan. Sony makes great devices
@@SpencersStuffTV Back when iPhone 5 was still a fresh thing, i actually replaced it with an Z3 Compact because i needed the tougher type of phone for a while and afterwards even though it served me well i sold it to replace it with a really, really cheap Galaxy S6, well, my operator effed me over with that S6 and didn't get me one so i had to take a Galaxy A3 (same price, you can get why i went for the S6, oh and S8 was like just announced and not even out yet at that point so S6 was really, really good value for that 200 or so bucks converted)
But yeah, the worst part about the A3 was the fact it's camera broke from unknown reason, all i know is that the top glass was shattered and that i had to change it, replaced it with a Moto C Plus.
I had the Z3 and X, but they didn't seem to evolve like the other phone changed in addition they were expensive compared to my OnePlus 6T
I had the Xperia P. That phone was cancer, laggy from the start.
Oh hell i agree with u
There was once when Sony made solid phones like the Xperia Z and Z1. Then Sony made its downfall when the Z3 and Z5 devices launched. Until now Sony came back again.

Ho do you explain LG phones then?
@@cdangers this was the reason Sony cited for the disabling of the fingerprint scanning feature in the US.
And the ironic thing about this is that the patent is owned by Apple. They don't even use fingerprint scanners anymore! Why would they own this patent? To scrutinize the others who actually want to make side-mounted fingerprint scanners?

@@chedmacr still using the Z5P. Still every shit works flawlessly. Sony messed the 4k switch timer in album in Android 6.0 and since then the 2sec switch time became 10+ sec. Battery didn't fail but I did replace it in 3 years losing the ip68.
Only screens that are better than this are all from Sony. The one on xz2p and the one on Xperia 1.
Only fault was using the awful SD810 which overheats and running this phone
pudencem1 the XZPREMIUM also has a better display too. It gets brighter mostly. Slightly wider colour gamut
I have the regular z5. Still works.
Sat on my shelf now, would never ever sell it. Even if its a bit damaged, still works decent after 4 years
Damn! this phone is so underrated
It really is. Criminally underrated in my opinion
I love my SONY Xperia XZ Premium (incredible camera, 4K screen & awesome battery life!)
I broke mine recently, feels bad man. Decided to go for Xperia 1 now tho
I have one, too. Camera is not that good, imo, but the screen is awesome! I am having issues with wifi, it disconnects after some time and doesn't come back until I restart the phone. Did it happen to you as well?
@@diego750il no, wifi has been perfectly fine, I've kept mine on android 8 with no plans to upgrade.
Maybe a software bug? Reset to factory settings?
@@diego750il Yes this happens to me, its like it disconnects then when i search for it, there is no wifi around i just switch off and on repeatedly and it comes back
My XZ PREMIUM died after the last update. Wouldn’t switch back on no matter what I try.
I remember my first phone. It was a Sony Ericson Xperia Arc. It feels so nostalgic now to see Sony come back. Awesome work Lew. Really enjoy your work.
Mine was xperia Ray.
@@naimeshirou9734 That was my dad's phone😂
My older brother's Xperia Arc was the first android phone I ever saw and it was so damn impressive at that time♥️.And my first android phone ever was Sony Walkman W8.Feels nostalgic.
Mine was a W810i and a P990
Watching this video on a Sony Z5 Premium. 4K screen and X Reality ON! Still a solid phone even after all these years.
Watching this on my XZ Premium in 4k.
Never thought I would ever see facial hair *THIS* detailed on a smartphone.
Me to 💪🔥
I have xperia z5 for the last 3 years... Not a single problem ever occured... Love for xperia
Finally Lew got the attention of millions of subscribers most request Xperia 1
Sony need a push fan from Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka ♥️
SONY ෆෑන්ස් 😍
From SL 🇱🇰
Yeah , I was like why isn't he reviewing this amazing phone! Besides the battery 😅. 21:9 i found out is so handy for typing and seeing content in scrolling format, like Instagram.

Lew: 643 ppi is largest density I've ever seen
Xperia z5 premium & xz premium : am i joke to you
...this is world first 4K OLED screen on a phone..
Previous ones had LCD
@Priyanshu Katwal z5 p and xz premium have also 4k resolution...with higher ppi...lol
@@amlan3669 Yeah but it isn't avaible everywhere in the z5 premium , for example in youtube the maximum resolution is 1080p and the only way to see it's native resolution is through the gallery by loading a 4k video, also it overheats very fast because of the Snapdragon 810 which isn't a good cpu for this resolution :/
@@IruzzArcana Nah, I think SD 810 should be able to handle 4k well. I have my xz premium and 4k feels like 1080p.
Xzp has 800 ppi very higher
the sony xperia xz premium has a higher pixel density of 807ppi also has the 4k screen
Rosé Godsé LCD not OLED
Because it has a MUCH smaller screen and aspect .
@@pochen4092 it's one of the best LCD displays at that time though
Yep the XZ Premium was a great phone already (was my previous phone) with an excellent LCD but the Xperia 1 (current phone) is a totally different beast! The screen is even better and the aspect ratio better in hand and pocket (although a bit taller) but narrower.
600+ ppi is already insanely sharp for normal human eyes, 800 was just way too much though.
Sony has had a dedicated camera shutter button for years. I remember it on my Sony Z2. Still one of my favorite phones of all time.
Z2 is a Beast literally 🔥🔥🔥love that phone, it had everything I now have Xperia 1 I fell this is close to the Z2
@@teradac2 Oh nice! That makes me really want to check it out. I am due for a new phone this year.
@@Travis_Orozco sound is louder now yet the quality of sound is still good.
Pictures are sharper where as Z2 was soft but still produced beautiful pics. 4k no longer app but you can always turn on in settings. Side sense is really really useful for short cuts to recents... Reviewers are iffy on this but once you get use to the phone and double tapping the side's ain't that hard 🤦🏾♂️😂
When you get the phone let me know what you think 👊🏾
Xperia SP in 2012 was best phone in the world I’m convinced , it had a hd display 4g lte a dual core cpu 1gb ram a great 👍 camera and also it enabled me to Skype with my turn gf who lived in LA whole i was in the UK 🇬🇧 and trust me the quality was crystal clear for 2012 standards , shame since then Song has made boring bland phones ,let’s hope with this new device people will take notice
it was the worst phone to me, but i switched to the Z3 and my experience was completely different, it was a great phone
U X I thought the SP was great for the time , only the Lumia 920 was as good at that time and as for Samsung they didn’t release a masterpiece till the S4 came out
Christophe Ayres I loved that light bar, but for today’s standards that’s just gimmicks. My experience with that phone terrible, the phone would heat up in my pocket for no reason, and the camera was bad, I couldn’t take a photo without being blurred due to shaking slightly like any other human would, and low light was bad. Maybe with really steady hands and patience to tweak the camera settings every time, maybe I could’ve taken better photos. After a year I sold it and bought a used iPhone 5 in 2013, The difference was night and day. I know t he SP was just a mid range and the iPhone was the previous year flagship, nowadays the gap is not that noticeable I guess
Ricardo Fialho Henriques camera wasn’t that bad if you enabled HDR , I took that phone to LA and the photos on my Fb page are crystal clear if I had used a Samsung or Motorola of the same price range my photos would not have been half as good anyway obviously compared to a modern device it’s antiquated but at the time it was a very good phone let’s hope Sony innovate again as they need to step it up if they are to compete with Samsung Huawei and Apple
Xperia SP was my first ever smart phone .One of the best choices i made till today
Now this is what I came for 😍 Finally you reviewing a Sony Xperia device!
Sony have side finger print scanner for long long time.. But the way you say like they copying other phone
alucard kaizokudan true.
.....ok
True
The way he said it hit me hard as well 😂
All of the companies are copying each other
Biggest selling point to me is the ability to play PS Games and if that has expanded. A demo on that please.
I've tested out the gaming on the Xperia 1 it's pretty awesome. The remote play isn't perfect yet... find me on YT if you want to see it in action.
BTW SONY IS ONE OF THE TOP 10 COMPANY..AMONG ALL...CAUSE THEIR TECH CHANGED EVERYTHING NOW....LIKE SOFTWARE TO HARDWARE.
Why are you screaming?
I believe ya preety girl
No it's not, you spouting shit, not that many dev on it as well to develop cool shit lol
Sentilong Jamir like what?
I've read that Sony Mobile will stop selling in the US soon. Will I still be able to buy their future phones online and still work in the US?
Don't use it like the way you use Samsung or One+ .Try the 3D creator app, Dive into Camera manual mode, Remote Play with PS4, Album app is slick Featured and simplicity, the Music app is amazing. The X1 will keep surprising you.
Thing is,people usually buy a Samsung or iPhone overpriced shit, because they like the non naturalistic colours and automatic mode to get vibrant non realistic pics, when instead if you put manual mode you can take way better pics
My girlfriend who is currently living in London just switch from iPhone after 8 years to the Xperia.. she loved it and now she's on pixel 2 and loves it more. Android is a major player these days. iPhone really needs to innovate imo
David cool story but why are you commenting about Apple on a Sony video
@@pranav3848 because Sony is what got her away from Apple (after 8 years)... That's important to anyone who realizes that apple is shit these days. Thanks for saying my story is cool tho man
What does your girlfriend living in london got to do with this?:D
@@letitbEat1 because I got her to switch from iPhone to Android from thousands of miles away.
@None of Urbiz I completely agree with you on that one
Actually liking what Sony is trying. If I was to switch to Android, this might be a consideration.
