I usually listen to scifi stories while falling asleep, so I tend to miss most of them. This one i happened to listen while doing chores so i caught all of it. Great story!
I do the same but with boring history podcasts so I don’t care if I miss anything 🤣🤣 British history podcast is a good long tedious one for sleepy time 🤣
Ive been listening to the catalog of stories you have from oldest to newest, but thus is the first one that made me comment. This story is so beautiful, its about someone who has been given an opportunity but dont know if they should take it and the way that is weaved with the Sci Fi elements it is so moving and touching that i just had to say, phenomenal job. Im excited for the rest!
I'm doing that too (oldest to newest) and plan on going through the playlists afterwards to get the groupings of storylines and characters melded in my mind.
I just loved this story!!! I think being a lifelong gardener made the harvest scene especially moving to me. We work so hard, so long, overcoming so many obstacles to achieve a successful harvest. This story did more to transport me into space than anything I can recall. Wonderful! Thank you! And as always, narration and voice characterization are among the best to be found in the audioverse. You rock, P.E. !
Great job on this story, my friend! I especially appreciate the interplay between "Birdie" and MSgt Eliot Ward. In just a couple of paragraphs, you introduced a character that has a small but very significant role in the story. I found myself instantly thinking, "This is a guy who can be trusted. His opinion/advice will be solid." If the powers that be had sent a PFC, his words wouldn't carry nearly as much weight. Without that, regardless of her decision to go or stay, she'd always be doubting and second guessing what she'd done. Bravo!
Love this story. I like the relationships in these stories and I like the science too. I was thinking about the energy requirements for the robot harvesters. LOL
Thanks, Alistair! That's a point that's not in there, so if you see a glowing puddle of transparent goo near a pile of cherries, you'll know somebody forgot to step on his charging plate in between runs 😃
Loved it! I felt vested in the characters and story in a short time. Loved how you didn't a lot physical description of your characters, I prefer my imagination for that. Really loved not dealing with tech besides what was needed for the story, much like Frank Herbert. Only one issue and a small one. More emotion when reading. 9/10 I'll have my wife listen.
Thanks, The Steve. Really appreciate the kind words and feedback! I'm working on the voice acting 😀 Not unlike writing, it's an artform entirely unto itself. I'll consider your comment license to be more expressive.
Thank you, Amy! Welcome! So glad you found the channel 😃This story inspired me to plant a strawberry patch this year! It only took me two years of thinking about it 😂
Ok... I was supposed to go outside and check the cows. My dogs are impatiently waiting. And here I sat, wondering how this sci-fi story was catching this ole' high fantasy gal. the images of fresh fruit had me hooked. I still grow them the old-fashioned way, off a tree - or at least the neighbor does and I show up with several 5 gallon buckets when they are ripe. If you can do the nano bots that crawl the pears right to the table, I imagine we'd buy them now. Alrighty then. C'mon dogs, time to go check the cows before it gets too dark.
@@RoweLit lol... yeah, I'll start working on that my new malli might just be smart enough to figure it out. Speaking of which... Ole Roxie, she's over the rainbow Bridge, used to help me plant. So, I'd prep the beds, plant the seeds, put in the kitty deterrent. The next day I'd find it all tore up. Rosie had dug it all out. So, I'd be cussing under my breath, and get more seed and straighten it all out. About 3 yrs in a row, I'd find a couple of pieces of dog food. Just two pieces. Just like seeds. The fourth year, I made a small bed for her dog food seeds, and she quit digging mine up. So... potato digging dog... we'll work on thar. 😎 👍 😎
@@RoweLit Lol... that would be devastating. I thought about this the other day and your stories. I said to a friend of mine that Border Collies are aliens from The Perfect World. Wouldn't that be funny to have a bunch of humans enter a planet and have it be inhabited by Border Collies...
Question for author of these stories: did you do all the world building before penning the first one? If yes, was the world building a formal process, or just something in the back of your mind?
Thanks for the question, Robert. Unfortunately, it's not a super clear answer. This story is part of my "Lifeboat" playlist, and all of the stories there are derived from the storyworld of my upcoming novel of the same name. So that, I guess you could call a formal process, because a great deal of thought went into that storyworld before I started writing the shorts that are here on the channel. Most of the other stories are evolving as I write them. I liken it to an impressionist painting with each of these stories filling in a dot of a much larger worldscape, much of which I'm still blind to (though I do have some ideas). To me though, the focus is always much more heavily trained on creating a single story each week that works. That's what I try to do to the best of my ability! Hope you're enjoying them!
I'm jealous 🍓I meant to get a strawberry patch going this year, but it never happened ☹at least on this planet anyway. 2024 is another year though 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓

Your description of the shuttle leaving Mars had me wondering what it would actually sound like on Mars with its thin atmosphere. I imagine it would be less loud. I wonder how else it would sound different.
I think not too much different inside a structure on the surface. I'm not a physicist, but my guess would be that inside a structure at or near one atmosphere, the sound would be little different wrt the character of the sound. The intensity would be diminished, surely, but it would still hit that structure and transfer to the air within. But I imagine much of the sound an observer hears would carry through the planet's surface as well. So maybe softer than being close to a rocket launch on Earth, maybe a more prominent rumbling, but again, I'm no expert. I wouldn't be surprised if acoustic engineers have tested something like this at altitude.
@@RoweLit My intuition suggests the same. By the way, I am so grateful for your stories! Thank you so much! They are my sanctuary in this crazy scary world. I hope that someday someone turns your universe into a virtual space where people can go and spend time and socialize. Not yet, the technology isn’t good enough. Maybe in a decade when it’s indistinguishable from reality.
Thanks, Observer! I actually hadn't really thought about that with respect to the Misfits storyworld. I've definitely thought about that over the years, the next iterations of immersive storytelling, but that was before I started this crazy adventure, and I guess I've been too busy to think about this kind of adaptation. Maybe by the time I retire, but it'll be a much bigger storyworld by then😃

Sure,,, plants make all the plants infrastructure, leaves n stuff, for no purpose. Perhaps you people may have heard of something called photosynthesis?
