Ty... Thank you for presenting this conversation. Some researchers present Anne Lister in an unkind way which is a shame. Anne Choma’s analysis of Anne Lister is more holistic and explains how she changes as she matures. There are many facets to a character... as the amount of experiences and people encountered throughout life and so much more. Respect to Anne Choma for her research.👏
It’s a valid opinion to think that Anne was not a nice person. Why was this shut down? Everyone doesn’t have to feel the same way about her. Doesn’t mean she isn’t worth studying or isn’t an important figure.
Ive started doing research for a character in my novel who is lgbtq, openly lesbian and I'm actually looking up lesbians from history beginning with Anne lister I've always wanted to dive into her story so I'm looking forward to hearing this video! 😄❤️😊
My “bullshit alarm” was so close to having me click off this video at “My pronouns are they/them” Gotta keep telling myself... I am here for Anne Lister. Fascinating, inspirational, factual Anne Lister
@@PrimeMinisterRetsuko I don't feel like i'm going to get anywhere arguing with someone in a youtube comment section - but there's a LOT of things in that comment that sound so ignorant and stupid. Firstly not everyone has a penis or a vagina - intersex people exist. I don't know how your mind works that you can understand that people want to transition to binary genders yet you don't understand why some people don't want to identify as either. And of course it's all in your own mind, gender only exists in our minds and you clearly don't understand the correlation between lesbianism and gender non-comformity. There's a lot of boxes that society tried to put Anne Lister in which she defied with courage and pride. So why are you trying to put everyone in these two groups? If you are happy identifying as a binary gender that's great! But some of us aren't and i really don't see anything wrong with that.
@@PrimeMinisterRetsuko you can't just tell people that what they feel is not true and just imagination, you're not in their head. Besides, there are people who biologically have both male and female reproductive organs, so the whole 'only two genders' thing is bullshit in any way
@@leahbindmancohen2428 I don't agree with That One Blind Chick's disrespectful comment, but let's not strip Anne Lister of her identity as a woman! She was a formidable woman who shattered boundaries of the time, expressed herself in the way she wanted to and defied sex role stereotypes and limitations, but she was no less of a woman for that! Just a woman who expressed herself differently.
Dupuytren didn’t treat Maria Barlow, but AL herself, who wrote about the treatment extensively. Disappointing to hear that kind of mistake from a supposed scholar. (Anna Clark)
I dnt kno if there's a inferiority complex latent here but we really dnt require to nasal gaze and adjusting the camera 🎥 to head hieght wud in general be far more conducive to communication. Grt enquiry otherwise of such a remarkable lady.
36:44 So glad Anne Choma stood up for Anne Lister! I’m so tired of those who disparage her as not being nice!

Thank You for the subtitles the sound is muffled and it's hard to catch some of the texts they are talking about. Subtitles are key.
Brilliant, thanks for making this available.
Our pleasure!
Thanks so much for this!

Where I can read them too?
@@m_t3901 like the illegal version? so you dont have to pay
Maybe Isabella but wrote L or an I.
I heard "lesbian" was found in a poem at the time...

Why would you say this? How can you have such disrespect towards nonbinary people while understanding Anne Lister? Make it make sense

Unfortunately the British womans audio is really not good, which is a shame.
