How come China so welcomes Tesla EV with such high volume sale allowing Musk earning big money and yet the US refuses to allow Chinese EV sales in the US with 100% tariff. This is no fair trade practice as the US always complains about China.

@michaelloong964 because China did it to the world from the 1980's up until ~2009. 80% tariffs forced foreign automakers into 50/50 joint ventures.

I would like to point out that this ranking is based on the data from July 2024. However, if you look at the data from the first half of the year, from January to July, you will find that the BYD Qin is in the first place with a sales volume of 271,082; the second place is Tesla's Model Y with a sales volume of 244,116. If you look at the total brand sales volume in July alone, BYD has 340,000, and Tesla has over 70,000, with BYD's total sales volume being nearly about five times that of Tesla.

My neighbour gave me a lift to town in his new Tesla recently to pick up my car after the aircon was fixed. I was amazed at how bland the interior of the car was, a bit like IKEA. It was quiet inside but a fair bit of tyre noise and rumble. Pretty boring, I just don’t understand the attraction of these cars. My neighbour is not overly happy with it as it doesn’t meet the advertised range between charges. But he doesn’t care much, it’s just a town car and they use their ICE car for lengthy road trips.

You've seen some criticism from me so here's a fun one. I just watched a vid about a company in London converting old 80's-90's Land Rovers. Awesome. The cost is low enough now that it's basically the same or even less than rebuilding an ICE drive train if you're restoring a classic car. Engines, transmissions and all the other stuff for these cars is getting hard to find and it's very expensive while EV conversion parts are coming down in price enough to make sense and that curve is only going to get better so I think the classic car industry could be seeing a revolution too in the future. Right now it's supported by old guys who grew up with these cars but younger people will be more open minded.
