LEARN HOW TO MAKE A VEGETARIAN / VEGAN CHINESE STYLE ONE PAN SOY SAUCE RICE RECIPE TODAY!
LAY HO MA (how's it going in Cantonese)! This recipe is inspired by the popular clay pot restaurants in Hong Kong. But since many of us (myself included) may not have small clay bowls and open burners, this is a bit of an inspired home kitchen / weeknight version. Join me in this episode and learn how to make a tasty one pan soy sauce rice recipe today!
    Ingredients:
    1 cup short grain rice
    2 pieces garlic
    small piece ginger
    2 sticks green onions
    60g fresh shiitake mushrooms
    1 plantbased sausage
    60g smoked tofu
    2 dried red chili peppers
    2 tsp avocado oil
    1 1/2 cups water
    1 tbsp soy sauce
    1 tsp dark soy sauce
    1 tbsp maple syrup
    splash of black vinegar
1 tbsp chili oil ( • Most addictive Red Chi... )
    Directions:
    1. Rinse and drain the rice 2-3 times and set it aside
    2. Grate the garlic and ginger. Chop the green onions into small batons
    3. Remove the end bits from the fresh shiitake mushrooms and slice them in half. Slice the plantbased sausage and smoked tofu
    4. De-seed the dried red chili peppers
    5. Heat up a nonstick pan to medium low heat. Add the avocado oil followed by the garlic and ginger. Cook for a couple of minutes. Add the dried red chili peppers and cook for 30 seconds
    6. Add the rice and cook for 30 seconds, then add the water. Turn the heat to medium high. When the water begins to bubble, turn the heat to medium low and be sure the rice is submerged in the water
    7. Quickly line the toppings onto the rice. Then, cover and cook for 15min
    8. Make the sauce by combining the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, maple syrup, black vinegar, and chili oil
    9. After 15min, turn the heat off and let the rice steam further for another 10min
    10. Turn the heat back onto medium and let the rice cook for a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, pour the sauce over the rice. Serve the pan table side and enjoy!

I was sharing this video with my husband, who has eaten many of your recipes that I have prepared, and he’s seen your cookbook in the kitchen, but he hasn’t ever watched one of your videos before. He loves the way you present the cooking, but the fun part was at 2:18 when you open your cabinet to reveal dozens of neatly arranged and labeled containers, his jaw dropped and all he could say was “oh my God” seeing how organized you are, and we are both in awe of how beautiful your kitchen is. Is that a stage for making videos, or is that your everyday kitchen you cook in at home?

I enjoyed the one pan concept and very freely adapted it, using cooked frozen rice, fresh asparagus and beans, and an improvised sauce eg i found a bottle of white rice vinegar to splash, and with a glass of red wine for myself, thoroughly enjoyed cooking. I'll come back to this recipe its conceptually suoerb😂

This recipe is worth adding to one of my favourite one
Plant based sausage is not a favourite though .
I going to use a wog type of sausage like pork and fennel sausage 😋

    That does look delicious.❤
I’m surprised by the ratio of rice to water, is it because of the sauce?

This looks like a delicious dish. For me, it will be for a celebratory event as I won’t eat processed ingredients on a regular basis. The veggie sausage and dried tofu are processed. I would replace the sausage with fresh seafood such as shrimp or sea scallops, and replace the dried tofu with fresh tofu.

@@nanetterolph2972I live in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas which is lacking in everything except what I call basics, traditional foods. They are big into frying everything!
I've ordered Mori-Nu tofu on Amazon in the past.
Making tofu at home is really very simple. U have to constantly stir like you make traditional lemon pie from scratch. Similar to making yogurt but it only takes about an hour. All required is blender/ food processor, nonstick Dutch oven, strainer, cheese cloth & nut milk bag if u have 1 (I've used a bread (material) sack when my nut bag was no where to b found) & you'll need a press specially for firm. But starting out u can use 2 (same size) plastic containers & you'll need to put holes in one. Old storage containers that lost their lids lint ago or repurposed food, like pint of fresh mushrooms cubes in.
Ingredients r simple, soy beans & a coagulant. Coagulant can be different based on what recipe tofu being used in salt or acid based. Example, I like using fresh lemon juice for tofu going into salads & salts when tofu used to make burgers/ faux meat sandwiches...
If u like to garden sounds are very easy to grow. Preserve them in freezer them pull out when your ready to make tofu
I enjoy growing my own edible garden because I know it's organic & non GMO vs being organic enough to get that gov stamp. Then I can pick the beans at different stages based on what I'm doing with them. Unsure beans make real yummy tofu, I forget the name. Making a roasted crunch salty spicy snack that's perfect served w micro beer.
My garden saves me ton of money and I'm 95% self-sustained having fresh veggies yr round, frozen that gets me thru to next yr harvest, 3 yrs of canned & everything else gets dried for long term storage.
