Just finished this game. Absolutely glorious in every way possible
Reddit is your best friend when it comes to finding a link.
Better than Samus Returns
Might be my favorite Metroid game honestly
@@suhailinayatulla652 yes
The transition from Golden Temple to Breeding Grounds with the same melody is absolutely genius. It works really well in the game.
If I ever find DoctorM64 in person, I swear to god, I'm gonna kiss that motherfucker like a 100 times.
DoctorM64 better run and hide now.
I hope you don't have herpes.
As someone who never played the original Metroid 2, this game was a very pleasant treat for me. It nailed everything that made a Metroid game a Metroid game and more. And the surprise Serris fight was a nice little nod to Fusion, while also making chronological sense. The Metroid Hatchling theme and sequence is probably the best way to end a Metroid game, since you remain in full control right to the end. It's a very beautiful and touching moment.
Thera are some Fusion easter eggs Serris, the Intro Horntoad Cave it left of the GFS ( when Samus got infected with X ). Sadly we didnt have a X Cutscene ( at the end ) nor did we have the BSL on the Night Sky or Orbit ( would be cool though ). But I played Metroid 2 as a kid and can tell you
this isnt even close to a remake... Its a remastered. There are soo many new things 2 1/2 new areas ( The GFS and Distribution Center and Lower Tower ). There are so many new things that I would need to write 3 pages for only minor changes. Screw Nintendos copyright policy. This Game is canon for me and I am probably never going to play Metroid 2 again ( You could though its on the E-Shop its a good Game in my opinion, but AM2R pulverizes it ).
Metroid II hasn't held up particularly well (although much better than other GB games) but it is worth playing still.
I played the first Metroid when I was 2 or 3, and beat it when I was a little older. Metroid instilled an explorer's mindset in me from a young age, and despite not really having time for gaming anymore, it is still dear to me, and I pushed everything in my schedule aside to play it through.
Overall, it's excellent, especially for a fan game, but there were several things that I think could have been improved:
1) They left out the "blob flower" enemies, for some reason. These were strange carnivorous plant-like things that would spawn small amoeba-like enemies, and I was really hoping to see one with updated sprites and animations.
2) The dev team made some mistakes with SR388 in terms of describing the setting. I'm pretty sure the liquid that drains every time you clear an area is supposed to be acid, and the final area (before the queen) with the bubbles has a poor explanation. Carbohydrates are sugars, and according to the log entry all the bubbles are made of "living organic carbohydrates" or something. So those caverns are made of...cotton candy? I appreciate the attempt to make sense of the setting, but they should have cracked open a science book or asked for advice for that one.
3) The "Genesis" optional boss fight was a joke. "Genesis" was poorly designed, really just a slimy acid-monkey that seemed too close to the xenomorphs of "Aliens", and it was really easy to beat. Serris was an unexpected, nice touch, but they totally missed any other opportunity to connect the game to Fusion. No X-parasites, no mention of the BSL, not even any space pirates. They could have at least had a space pirate recon squad be responsible for the failure of the federation mission; it seems unlikely that they wouldn't know the location of the metroid homeworld or at least be spying on federation activities, which would also explain why Ridley pretty much waltzed right into the Ceres station and ran off with the baby metroid.
Still a good game, but I was let down when the major "extra area" with Genesis was mostly pointless and did nothing to connect the series, when it was the perfect opportunity to do so.
I don't Think is a good idea to connect to much to Fusion. Yes, we have the Cave, yes we have Serris, but you should not do as George Lucas did with the Prequels. Some Connections becomes pointless and are not necessary either.
and besides, it couldn't exist any parasite, because the metroids ate them all.
And this is about Metroids, they are the main theme. Space Pirates are not necessary. The only Connection to the next game is the good ending, where you see Samus contacting Ceres station about the baby metroid.
And what is BSL?
BSL stands for Biologic Space Laboratories, their just a bunch of scientist who like doing research in their creepy basement in the Metroid Universe.
Que genial que el creador sea Argentino, son las pequeñas cosas que me devuelven la fe en este país, aguante bokita papa
16:30 That Super Metroid Brinstar remix with Prime's instruments. Wow! :) Interesting, they separated one classic tune into two tracks with distinctive moods (20:22).
See you next mission! =)
*removed by nintendo*
oh nevermind =(
Spookhunter7 thats probably why they removed it in the first place
See you next mission as well!
Bootlex - Longplays & Walkthroughs - metroid 2 didn’t need a remake
Metroid Fusion should be our next target.
Novus Talks except it was the only game from the original set that wasn’t of sm quality or had a remake to be in sm quality.
I just love the fact the soundtrack has a blended style between the fusion soundtrack and the prime ones. It's actually more alike Prime Soundtrack... and i love it...
While extremely simple and repetitive, the Metroid Queen Music is one of my favorite tracks in the game. It gives a sense of dread knowing that killing this thing will ultimately cause the extermination of an entire species, and if you know about Fusion's story, you know that it will open up a threat more devastating than any Metroid.
A sense of... DREAD you say?

@@Zyborggian ayoooo!!!!
When I first entered The Tower, hearing those chants just gave me nostalgic boner! Progressing, when powering up the area I started getting goosebumps; shivering with excitement. Then lastly when descending into the power plant - that was the last nail in the coffin! All 3 themes from a single track: Lower Norfair!

Haven't gotten to the end of this game yet but god damn, it's sooooo goooooood. I'd say Hydro Station is my favorite sound track (so far)
Hydro Station is actually a remix of an older track.
If you've played the previous games in the series, you should know which one. It's pretty popular...
I'm going to guess it's a remix of the Brinstar theme from Super Metroid?
a part of it reminds of the technodrome theme from the 1987 ninja turtles show
pretty random i know
just thought id mention it
I didn't mean to sound condescending, I actually wasn't sure if you played it and didn't want to spoil the "surprise" if you hadn't, because making the connection yourself might have been fun.
@@dynastesgigas6996 trust me dude. it always is fun
Who would have thought we'd get 2 Metroid II remakes, that are both fantastic with each featuring amazing soundtracks.
Tbh after seeing the game awards 2016 all I can just say is that AM2R was clearly my personal "Game of the Year". It has soul and spirit of a true Metroid game. Wait, what am I saying...it is a true Metroid game! When I played it I was like: "Wtf...this plays exactly like Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission. The same outstanding quality. Amazing!" All I can say is thank you to DoctorM64 and all those who made this game come true. As Noobslayerbob already stated: This game's subtitle "Return of Samus" is much more appropriated now as it was back in 1991. AM2R gave me the Metroid I was looking for after Metroid: Other M.
Also Overwatch didn't deserve the goty at all
I updated the track list to use the names from the Demo v1.41 Soundtrack release where applicable, didn't realize a lot of these tracks had names already.
Before Metroid: Samus Returns, we had this.
Just a week ago I discovered metroid saga and started off with it. Until now I am played Zero Missión, AM2R, Super Metroid and I am playing Fusion just now. It's funny though that my favorite metroid game for the time being is this one. I can't believe this game was created by fans. Great job!
Thoth is an awesome addition to the game, splendid theme, boss, background, easter egg (the cave of metroid fusion where samus get infested) and a much desired addition to the plot
My top 5 (Was hard because the entire OST is amazing)
1. The Nest
2. Golden Temple
3. The Tower
4. Industrial Complex
5. Initial Decent
Glorious game! best controllers ever on a 2D metroid game, Hydro Station and Power Plant are amazing!
I wish more people get to know this game and play it, is soooooo goooooood
Bro Nintendo shut it down
Excellent soundtrack. A lot more memorable than Samus Returns. It certainly helps where there isn't constant gunfire allowing you to hear it. Samus Returns does have some great tracks though, when you can hear them.
EggmanlandResident Samus returns doesn’t even have a soundtrack. It’s all prime remixes and nothing original.
@@novustalks7525 You're certainly not listening to it clearly.
@@novustalks7525 No? Most of Samus Returns' tracks are from Metroid II. Unlike AM2R, actually.

the metroid hatchling theme is perfect idc what nintendo thinks this game is canon in my books
For me too its canon period. I mean how can anyone hate this game its perfect, even the flaws it had got fixed. This will be my favorite Metroid Game. ( Metroid Fusion was it for a long time, but this is a masterpiece ). Hey if you want another cool Metroid Game ( wich will be released soon ) look up at Metroid X-Fusion ( A SM hack that isnt a hack anymore because the SM engine was expanded and is now at the same level as Game Maker Studio ( AM2R )). The Hacker or should I say programmer is redesigning Fusion on this new Enginge ( not a remake a complete redesign, completely different rooms, bosses and redesigned fusion ones, SA-X encounters, events ). Well I hope it doesnt get as much as attention as AM2R it has to be completed before its shutdown ( If Nintendo keeps up its policy )
AM2R was shut down because of the newly released Metroid game, so that Fusion-game probably would live to see the day until they remake Fusion (In fact, Samus Returns was originally gonna be a Fusion-remake, but the dev team got asked to make Metroid II instead, then they found out about AM2R)
Fan-games are great but just remember, theyre extremely risky
I love that everything starting at The Nest and onwards is a 100% recreation of the original game's track. AM2R's composer knew which music was good enough to keep
Main Cavern has an awesome sound. It's like I'm there visiting this mysterious world.
Somewhere out there, there might be a SR388 full of wonders.
I get chills every time i hear the genetics lab theme
I was a huge metroid 2 fan from way back amr2 was so much love to play. I absolutely loved it
Masterpeice!
Loved the Chykka remix themes for the Torizo battle.
No not Torizo. Its the Torizo ON CRACK.
Yeah that battle was pretty crazy. Having to stay in the air the whole time was so fun.
"Alright, you're dead, lemme out"
".................shitshitSHITSHITSHITSHITSHI-"
It's amazing how this soundtrack took the old songs and made them recognizeable in its remixes. Meanwhile SR has music that didn't stick to me at all, and I say this after beating the game twice, 100%, and listening to the soundtrack again and again. AM2R is the definitive M2 remake in my eyes.
Have yet to play a metroid game and this soundtrack is making me really want to play one right now it's so damn good
I'm only at:"Initial descent", and the choice of instrument is gold.
Beautiful remix.
30:36 el tema de torizo es el de chykka de Metroid prime 2 pero lo dejo sublime con ese arreglo :)!
What makes this soundtrack kinda neat is that several of these songs are straight up remixes from Metroid prime one and two. :)
Finally a version of the soundtrack without 30 minute versions of each song.
First title in the series in which I found 100% of the secrets. Even on hard only 2 parts, both bosses, were truly difficult: that flying Chozo, & the computer. I forget their names but it took many, many turns to beat that Chozo & his acrobatic flying antics, and I absolutely needed to bypass the computer defense system, grab more health capacity in the areas below, beyond it, & then come back only to barely beat it down.
Game is gd badass. Nintendo should hire the guy who made it.
I love this
they really should ask the maker if they can use it and put it on the 3ds eshop or wiiu eshop its just so well made just like the fan remakes of that sonic guy that got hired by sega later
Saddly Nintendo took it down. Do not delete your copy. I hope they will change their mind, because this is a masterpeace.
Nintendo is just mad because it's a better metroid game than anything they could ever come up with lol.
The Tower Soundtrack is very much to my liking :)
Was waiting for ya ma baby
Holy shit that initial descent theme
1:02:21 just gives me Stranger Things vibes
I really love this fangame
Greatest remake ever
Serris, yay! Hydro Station is very nice too.
I think the first moment I wanted to check out the full OST was when I entered the Hydro station and realized it was a remix of Brinstar jungle floor.
Better than the official version.
1.4.4 Hype lets go!
DoctorM64 released an updated version of the soundtrack for download and on SoundCloud, originally intended for a 1.2 update of the game. metroid2remake.blogspot.com/2016/09/soundtrack.html
I've updated the track names in the description where applicable.
sweet
Fun fact. Samus' voice actor, Jessica Erin Martin was asked to do some voice lines for them in the game. She sadly declined due to legal reasons.
From 11:15 to 11:26, the music eerily and creepily reminds me of Freddy Krueger's theme from the Nightmare on Elm street movies.
Hydro station is a remix of Brinstar from Super and Something from the Prime series?. So amazing, and of course The tower is a remix of lower Norfair
La meilleure BO pour un jeu Metroid.
This is like Metroid meets *90s* DBZ (Not that DBZ Kai junk). Makes sense it would be perfect for Metroid!
sin lugar a dudas Forlorn Descent
Flooded Complex -----> Awesome!
44:00 Norfair theme.
Between what nintendo did to AM2R, other fan games, and content claiming the HELL out of anything on youtube they wont get anothe red cent from me ever.
they did it because they're coming out with an official remake this september
So you don't want to play Prime 4?
1:08:18 I like a lot this song.
aw sheit the theme for the Queen Metroid has those trademark sound effects from Metroid Prime bosses. Just look up Vs. Parasite Queen.
1:07:44 is my new alarm tone
This game is far better than Samus Returns in any way, and the OST is just spectacular.
my personal favorite is the tower because it reminds me of magmoor caverns
I fucking love this game. Its my favorite Metroid Game so far ( dont care its fanmade for me its canon ). And this soundtrack kicks ass ( especially Gentic Lab1/2, Distribution Center 1/2, Hydro Station 1/BG and Serris and all Metroid Battle themes ).
You picked a damn good choice :D
This is based off a canon game, so yeah its canon :D
Hydro station 🙂🙂🙂
i hear lots of Metroid Prime 2 in this
Amazing remake of the M2 soundtrack. Nintendo could have put this game on their shop, made some change and cut a % to the people who made it. Instead they swept it under the rug like dirt. They make it really hard to be a fan of theirs sometimes.
I agree. I feel like one minute, I love Nintendo, then the next minute, I wanna punch them in the face
don't we all, they don't give a shit accept when they are losing money very quickly due to a bad game.
...are you people forgetting Nintendo just got their OWN Metroid 2 remake?
.
Lank the Dank i think they could have uses both of them
Nintendo needs to buy this and release it on the virtual console for switch
If you want to play it on your Switch, Use the RCM exploit to then load Android (LineageOS) and then just install the Android version of the game
So, you prefer AM2R or Samus Returns? Ah, the creator of AM2R now working at Ori and the Will of Wisps. Congratulations!
I liked AM2R better. Way too much of a focus on combat in Samus Returns, and some of the bosses were annoying like that big drill thing. Samus Returns is still a good game though.
Yep, Diggernaut is frustrating. But it's also awesome
Y pensar que un Argentino hizo tremendo juegazo
best metroid ever..
See you next mission! =)
*Metroid Prime 4 and AM2R #2 get announced*
Never expected that! =OOOO
Writter Gamer Is a pun, as the game announced was Another Metroid 2 remake, but this time is official.
@@henryt3301 Prime 4 is still waiting. Let's hope they don't f*ck it up. Even a prime game of prime 3 quality would be very satisfying.
best ones for me were the omega metroid area and the queen fight
I may be in the minority here, but even though I enjoy both of the remakes, I think only the original truly captures that "you are completely on your own" creepiness of SR388. Maybe it's because of the jet black backgrounds or lack of map.
going back to this game after playing the original made me feel the same way. Am2r is a fantastic metroid game, probably one of the best ones, but metroid ii's amtosphere simply isn't there. Mark Brown has a very cool video on the subject
Man, this remake is epic! I wish there were more of these coming out. Are there any similar recommendations?
There's an official metroid 2 remake coming out in september and announced development of metroid prime 4
oh, I saw these! I don't have a 3DS yet, but i'm 100% happy the Metroid series is back in 2D, at least for a bit.
Can't say I've gone back on my word since Nintendo DMCA'd AM2R. It's still one of my all time favorite video games, and it's still way better than Samus Returns.
chykka theme ftw
It's not super-powerful music; it just feels like it's seeping into my blood. Mmmmm, tasty.
I don't remember where the dance remix of Magmoor happened.
The tower, once it activated
Is there a way for me to listen and download all the songs individually? UA-cam MP3 doesn`t allow for downloads longer than 20 minutes ;-;
One (tedious) option that I did was to Download MyTube from the Windows Store then use that to download the video MP4. Then I got Simple Video Converter from the store as well to create an MP3. Lastly I split it into files using audacity.
All of the songs are stored as .ogg files in the game's folder when you install it.
Ahhh ok, thanks!
+TechnoSyndrome lol wish I'd know that. would've saved me some time
Have you tried Vdownloader? Simple to use.
You forgot the original composer Hirokazu Tanaka from the first Metroid game. Some melodies are from that too. 0:)
It's neat how some guy from Argentina can get a bunch of total strangers together and produce something greater than what Nintendo could produce with their own intellectual properties.
Why can't I recognize the distribution center music from anywhere? Would that actually happen to be an original track?
+Isometric Reality Sweet! I really like it so kudos to the composer!
I loved all of them. Except for 8:45 which I thought was super corny
I love this, but couldnt play it, its too laggy on my laptop (
¿Flooded Complex remix de qué canción es?
I shouldn't have played this game right before Samus Returns came out because now I don't really seem to want to finish Samus Returns as AM2R is so much better.
PReSS STaRT
Jentendrais presque Hooper parler, tiens
When you think about it, it's quite cool since Samus Aran is the only, single damn girl in the whole video game industry who is totally independent and a strong, badass woman (I don't count Other M, because that game has no right to exist)
agreed about other m. While i did enjoy playing it still i hated what they turned samus into. Even more so now that her image has been changed to the short super model look...... I really hate mainstream sometimes.
Darkness56 true, I hope they'll go back to the Prime series - if they make a Metroid for the Switch, because Samus didn't speak anything, just "Cannon, Camera, Action!" and everything worked perfectly. They even teased a new Metroid in Prime 3: Corruption and Federation Force with Sylux. I am so damn hyped for the Switch
Fransu & Toffi Hold on to your butt. There's one coming for the Switch.
Fransu & Toffi ...What about Lara Croft? Or Bayonetta?
Это просто пиздец... как круто..
Great job on updating the tracks for this game. The original tracks for the game would get a little annoying after a while. Still great game.

People been saying that AM2R will still be better than this remake on 3ds...
They are pretty much correct lol.
Just played the new one on 3ds. It's pretty good, but the entire thing does feel like it was pulled together in about 2 years, which is right about the time people were posting gameplay videos of an almost finished AM2R.
While fun the new one doesn't come close to AM2R in my humble opinion. I'd still support it though so we get more Metroid from Nintendo.
It's Serris, not Eris.
Thanks, I took all the boss track names from the file names. Fixed.
Weird how it's called that in the file then.
During the late demo stages of the game there'd be a soundtrack rar file you could download that had proper names. Guess he just decided to put all the music with the rar file and named some of them weird
+Derp Person *main rar file
Kinda glad the naming ended up weird. When I looked through the music list, I didn't notice the track, so when Serris showed up I was surprised. Were the song named correctly, it would have been spoiled.
as someone who has both playes samus returns and am2r i can say: am2r is the better game. it is clear now why nintendo had to take it down. you can clearly see how some fans used 10 times the time and 10 times the passion to create an awesome game (samus returns isnt bad though)
really sad that this got DMCA'd just for that Samus Returns trash
There is a happy ending. Milton Guasti, the creator of AM2R, was hired by Moon Studio (Creators of Ori and the Blind Forest) and he will be involved in the level design for Ori and the Will of the Wisps. And agree. AM2R is alot better then Samus Returns on 3DS.
