I have to admit that this fan remake is truly top notch. The opening is definitely something I'd have expected from a Metroid game. Just like in Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Zero Mission, Samus gives dialogue at the start before the game play actually starts.

I haven’t had this much fun with a Metroid game (or any game) since Super Metroid and Metroid Prime.
This was definitely a remarkable remake. I remember being blown up by the power cell. I said to myself, I AM NOT GOING TO MAKE IT! BOOOM! After she got up...OH THIS WAS PART OF THE GAME. I came back and retrieved the energy tank later.
I like how one of the enemy types looks like a flying Samus helmet
I wish more fans made games like this. I know I will. This game is about exactly how I think fan made games should be made. It has the quality as if it was actually made by Nintendo, but at the same time it tries to go above and beyond what they've previously done. It's not afraid to throw in a few new things and experiment while it still holds true to the original. This game is a true love letter to Metroid II and it makes me love it (as well as the original) even more. I wish I could've been a part of the process of making this game, I would have had a blast! Metroid is my favorite game series, keep creating wonderful Metroid games people!
Even though I enjoyed my time with Samus Returns, this is what I call an true remake of Metroid 2.

I just finished this game and I must say I was very impressed with it. Somehow, it seems that fans are better at making games than the game creators itself. They usually have a lot more imagination and creativity, especially when it comes to the Mega Man X series. Anyway, I've never played Metroid II so this was a really fun challenge.

That's because fans make fangames out of love, while established game developers make them out of a love for money. The difference really shines through even if the people working on both are equally talented.

This game is awesome. It does even more for Metroid II than Zero Mission did for the original. The graphics are awesome, but my favorite part is the soundtrack. They took funky 8-bit early 90s music and revamped it into something completely awesome and new age. If there was a soundtrack for this game, it would be the second thing I would get, right after the game itself. Amazing.

yeah one of the things that helps is i think it's using the zero mission/fusion engine but it also has the super metroid feel as well. Even the song during the opening dialogue was from Super metroid which was an awesome throwback

Metroid 2 was my first Metroid. I loved it so much.

I love this game, even though I haven’t played this version. I loved playing through the original Metroid II: Return of Samus, and I also love Metroid: Samus Returns. This version should have been a remake staple in the actual game series. I only had one problem with this version in particular; You should have been able to get the Ice Beam earlier. Other than that, 10/10. 👍
Game is perfect except for 44:36 that's a metroid moment right there.
I find it funny people have an issue with this spot given it’s the same way you come into the area.

Between 12:15 and 12:24, the music eerily and creepily reminds me of Freddy Krueger's theme from the Nightmare on Elm street movies.

AM2R being better than Fusion? Yeah. I agree. Not that I hate Fusion reminding you. I like the game alot. But I found the game to be way too linear.
@Jaegar Ultima Fusion was good, the Sa-X encounters were great, but having a computer tell you what to do next at almost all times killed the absolute loneliness and banish that is key to any Metroid game.
I don't mind having an game showing me where I need to go next just as long I still have the freedom of exploration that I can go wherever before I can go for my next destination Metroid & not forcing my way goimg to this first with less exploring. Something that I think Zero Mission got it right.

But I think Fusion comes 2nd. It's still structured better than Other M.
Where can I get the power bomb? I just got super missile and I opened the green door on top right but soon after there is the symbol of power bomb. I actually located it but I fall onto a save point.

I am aware that it is because they hadn't come up with the idea of Metroid: Fusion yet, but isn't it odd that the X-Parasites didn't start immediately showing up as Samus eliminated more and more Metroids in the depths of SR388?
Apparently if this game wasn’t DMCA’d there would have been a reveal that the crystals in the end of the game were petrified X Parasites.
The official remake went that same direction.

This is an excellent remake. Honestly, while I really enjoyed Samus Returns a _lot,_ I would have loved if this were the official remake of Metroid II, as well. It really feels like it could be an official game.
I hope the creator is able to make other games, even if they can't remake Nintendo games. They really did a great job with this, and I'd definitely check out anything else they made.

My question is what version of AM2R is this? Another thing I do not get is how fast you will have to beat this game to get the ending with Samus with no suit.

very good overall; the only three things id have done differently if i'd had the skills would to have: 1) make the scatter bomb an upgrade,2) have the spider ball permanently change the morph ball appearance and 3) make the metroid queen the "last" on the counter; it would then go back up to one when the baby was born to add a sense of new beginning.
Hey, how do you use the scatter bobs I've been looking all over the map for it but u say you get it from the start. How do you activate them?
Did you find out? I've got no idea how this guy uses scatter bombs like that. It's crucial to get into places to find items such at 13:21. I don't know which button he uses, i've tried everything.

Sketchy way only, but you'll find it with a quick Google search. I have it on android and play with a controller and have no sketchy side effects on my phone

I missed this soundtrack with the 3DS remake.
Anyone know what type of graphic setting or mod he's using to smooth out the graphics? The default graphics are unfiltered and very blocky/pixelated.
@Gaitama Nah, it's more than just the video quality. I've seen the difference in both 480p and 1080p as well. You can still see the blocky textures in 480p, especially on Samus. There's definitely some smoothing or anti-aliasing or supersampling going on here.

Old comment but I'll answer. When you charge the beam and go into morphball, you tap on Dpad down a couple times and it goes vertical. I use a controller though.
Can anyone help me with the shine spark? I can't get it to last for more than a few seconds and he can get it regenerate or last longer on here. Especially at around the 1:39:30 mark.
You just hold forward while doing the Shine spark dash. Make sure it hit a slope/any diagonal Terrain

How come Proteus Ridley wasn’t included at the end of this one like he was at the end of the 3DS one?
Because he didn’t fit the end of the story.
A large chunk of the Metroid Community didn’t like how Ridley was included in SR, as it was shoehorned in.
AM2R was remaking MII, which didn’t have Ridley in it.
(Also AM2R came out before SR was even announced)

IMO, they should have just had a re-imagining of Ceres section from SM with Proteus Ridley to better tie the two games in.

Finally got around, after over a week, to completely watch this vid. Just gotta say this: DAMN! Before I looked it up, I actually thought this was a legit game! When I saw the End Credits, though, I knew something was up. But gotta say that this game looked AMAZING! For those looking for the DL for the game, you're most likely not going to find it, as Nintendo got those removed, sad as it is.
Was still able to download the game and update launcher, found in the first few results too, so Nintendo is struggling to keep it down

La version de 3ds tiene mejoras y la historia es mas parecida al titutlo original, pero ambas entregas me gustan por igual. Si quieres algo nuevo y diferente esta el 3ds, si quieres algo mas pegado al mapa original y al estilo zero mision, quedate con AM2R.

Unfortunately their remake isn't as good as AM2R would've become, it's GREAT, but it had some plans, which were shut down.
Nintendo isn't adapting, it's stuck in the 90's way of business.
Samus Returns is good, but definitely not good enough compared to what AM2R did right.

In the future is there anyway you can put the ad where it doesn't cover important info, I can here to see how many super missiles and power bombs there are on Normal at 100%. Just a tip hope you don't mind it, you will do what you think is best
On Normal, the maximum amount of Super Missiles and Power Bombs is 20 each. You start with 2 Super Missiles and 2 Powerbombs once you get those upgrades, and every expansion gives 2 Super Missiles/Powerbombs each, so there are 9 expansion each + the first one you get when you unlock them. 10 of each in total, including the very first ones.
I know that now, I have 100% the game, but when I made the comment I was not sure and clicked on the video to find out

lol which upgrades were you missing? I found them all by myself, except for the Power Bomb/Missile Tank in the Nest Area near the Hydro Pump section (the part where you have to do shinespark vertically in the metroid's chamber), the Super Missile tank in the other nest (the one hidden in the dark where you had to break a secret super missile tile) and that missile tank that isn't shown in the hydro pump map.

nah, keep holding down on the dpad and it shoots them directly upward... I haven't figured out the diamond shape yet. I'll let ya know as soon as I do
