When I seem to have a problem with my quad wether it's tuning or building I always go to your vids because I know your going to explain everything so I can understand it and for an oldman getting into the hobby this really helps me a lot. Keep up the great work.
Just thought I'd say, thanks for posting all your videos and sharing so much useful information, Andy. This vid in particular has been invaluable whilst I've been doing my first DIY build.
I'm just getting into Fpv, been flying wings for a while. Everytime I watch these build videos, I imagine myself in the goggles.... Soon enough I will build a quad for myself. I am leaning towards the the X style frame. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos. Have a good one! -Jamie
I wondered what that was, I couldn't find it in the comments... I looked up and down all the comments and was thinking "where is that message from" It's all good Andy
Great build and great commentary. thanks I think the only thing about the build that I would really comment on (and I would not have 2 months ago) is these types of frames with the component arms. The arms will not break but everything else will. it is a pain to pull the craft apart. I am now going to solid 4mm base plate/arm frames like the realacc 210 v2. QAV-250 like the alien and martian frames, the body plates break in behind the camera when you find the elusive tree jumping out at you. so cheers and thanks again.
Well done Andy on this really makes sense and I have learnt so much keep it going please. Other things I would like to see it difference in battery's and a cheap quad set up to an expensive one cheers
so I did this build but used a few different parts. I am having problems with the goggles and video. I am using the same vtx and the eachine VR 007 goggles. the issue I'm having is that I only get a few feet of range on the frequencies and channels that I have tried. I am using a GoPro that normally works fine so could you maybe tell me what you think is wrong
You mention on your video that the propellers you chose vibrate at low rpms. I did a search for alternative propellers and I keep bumping with propellers that are called "fishbone" shape. What's the difference between these are the regular looking ones.... are the better or just look fancier?
Hey, i ordered all the parts to build this quad next week, i have some batteries from the past (2200 mah 4s lipos with 70c, can i use them or are they too heavy?
Andy, I have the same charger and I like it. however, I recently bought a pair of fatshark Dom V3's and I tried to charge the battery and it keeps telling me that there is a balance port error. Is there something I don't know or maybe the battery is faulty?
Hi... wouldn't you need LC filtering for the VTX & camera power supply wires? I also have a question: If a PDB has a 5v and a 12v outlet, will that 12v outlet work if I only use a 3S LiPo? In other words, can I still use it to power my VTX (needs 7-16v) or will it shut down unless I use a 4S LiPo?
i Andy sorry to keep bothering you but I'm at the point of putting in the pins to the flight control board for the first regulator. do you put the pins in the boot holes? thanks Rich.
Dear Andy, Would you mind helping answering a few questions, what is the purpose of removing the small negitive wire from the ESC's, I have these ESC - (4X Racerstar MS Series 25A ESC BLHeLi_S), will they still work following your step in the video? Can the Camera an VTX run on 4S power direct or is it best to use a LC Filter? Thanks
I was also trying to build my own but some goofy seller in Aliexpress sent me 4*CCW motors by mistake. Waiting for him to respond and resend will take ages so I started to build my quad anyway. Will only the nylock nuts do the job? Do you think this self thread locking is a requirement or optional?
AndyRC thanks for the quick reply, didn't think you would be checking this comment section still, that's what I call actually caring about subscribers :D Anyways which one specifically would you recommend? Thx
Hi, can you help me with my quadcopter. I'm making it on QAV 250 frame. I am using 2300kv brushless motors, 12A ESC and 5inch triple blade propellers. I'm using Arducopter 2.5 as flight controller and 3 cell LiPo 11.5V battery. For transmitter I'm using Flysky 2.4 Ghz 6 Channel transmitter. The problem is that I am getting enough thrust to lift the quadcopter but the problem is that it is not getting balanced in the air and it trips. While programming APM Planner says, "Compass not healthy." can you please help me with this problem. Regards Anuj
Hey, if you use PPM you would just plug the three wire in to the PPM port in your receiver. Im am about to built this with a few swapped parts but I let you know if I can give a better response. There are tons of videos out there, watch his review for the wizard, there is a similar setup for PPM in there
I have 2 questions Would you recommend a cc3D flight controller OR a naze 32 for a cheap racing drone? Should I buy a whole DIY drone kit all together OR buy the parts individually to build it? Thanks, Jacob
Do you think 45C batteries is good enough for this build? I alreafy bought a pair of Turnigy Graphene 1500mah 45c packs for this build and realised that you were using 65c packs.
Hi Andy, Thanks for the video! I'm building my first quad exactly the same as this - except I changed two components. XSR receiver for my Taranis, and also TBS Unify Pro HV video receiver with Triumph Antenna. Do you think I will still need the Voltage regulator considering I have a higher quality Vtx?
My radio is able to bind with the receiver but in the receiver page in betaflight, the controls do not show up, it seems the radio is not connected. What should I try
"Diatone Micro BEC 5V 500mA Module For RC Multirotors 78 Series Regulation Chip" is out of stock in Bang good, is other voltage, 6v or 12v, can be used to build this quad? besides, is the regulator from Pololu can be used to replace the diatone micro?
So is it possible to change it to 20A one for this motors? I'm not sure how to count that.. But I'm extremely interested as I'd like to build a quad myself too :)
So you have two different regulators: one for the FC and the other one is for FPV Camera, is this correct? Can't you just use one regulator for both, since they are both connected to 12V output?
theres not a lot of room on these quads to play about with the cog. i have it in the center of the FC which should be in the center of the craft but really pids will compensate for slight inaccuracy if cg, not as important as planes
Andy Im new in the fpv hobby and I was wondering what props should I put on my 250 quad (2000kv motors and total weight is about 700g). Any suggestions? And I got bit curious, how can you fly with only 1000 degree/s roll and pitch rate? Im flying with 1500 degrees/s and it's still a bit slow for me.
Banggood sells items that they dont even have in stock and then holds up the payment as a delay cover when they wait for them to arrive. Use Aliexpress instead they have almost the same prices and independent sellers so you dont get scammed so easily.
Hi Andy I building quad now. I bought mainly the same parts except different 25A opto esc. Do you never connect signal ground or was it just those esc?
i sometimes connect it if im being lazy. but the esc is already grounded so theres no need for it, makes for a neater build without it. my next build im connecting them just for a change
Hi Andy, I have a problem changing the direction of motor rotation. In BLHeli Suite the com port section is disabled. Is any USB driver needed? Great tutorial!! Thanks!!
i prefer this one as it suits the 5 inch frame and the quality was better than the zmr v1 but if you want the option of 6 inch as well as 5 then the zmr will be fine also.
Nice vid Andy, I am about to order all these parts to help my little brother get into the hobby and I was wondering if the 4s battery is necessary, he is very paranoid that it will have a bit to much power over a 3s as it is his first Quad. Thanks
Hi Andy! I have a question. I bought a Mobius 2 from spy tech when I download the videos to my computer I don't get any video just audio. And on my other computer I get like a line in the of the screen like a graph with the audio? I'm charging it right now. I using a 32gig card is that the reason or do I have to go into the settings and set it up? Thanks Andy. Rich
Andy. Thanks, good stuff. I've noticed most of your builds are custom rather than using (or at least starting) with the full kits (frame, motors, esc, fc, etc.). I see quite a few 250 and 450 ARF kits for prices between $70 and $100. I assume you have reason for your approach. What are those reasons. What are your thoughts on those kits. Good for a first build? Are they okay as a base and then better components? I'd be interested in your thoughts. Thanks again.
i do both kits and scratch builds however i tend to find that the kits are more restrictive for example if u dont like the camera it comes with u are stuck it but if u go custom its cheaper in the long run to get the components u know work best together. for example id be really suprised to see the fpv camera used here in a kit but its the best one to get and doesnt break the bank
Nice build, I am building the same frame. Just one question, wouldn't it be better to rotate the flight controller so the USB port is on the side and the JST connectors are front and rear? Maybe that looks cleaner. I'm using a SP Racing F3 with Sbus, please let me know. Cheers!

Just thought I'd say, thanks for posting all your videos and sharing so much useful information, Andy. This vid in particular has been invaluable whilst I've been doing my first DIY build.
Thanks Andy! This video gave me the much needed jump to this awesome hobby and i love this quad that i have build with your easy instructions.
I'm just getting into Fpv, been flying wings for a while. Everytime I watch these build videos, I imagine myself in the goggles.... Soon enough I will build a quad for myself. I am leaning towards the the X style frame. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos. Have a good one! -Jamie
Thanks for watching Jamie. get one built ;)
all bought with my own money, no items sent for review. UA-cam Virus
I wondered what that was, I couldn't find it in the comments... I looked up and down all the comments and was thinking "where is that message from"
It's all good Andy
I understand. I couldn't find the notification in the comments I figured something was up. It's all good Andy.
Cheers Jamie
Best Build i've ever seen!! Verrry Nice! Thank you soooo much!!
+Jan Kalantchouk thanks for watching cheers
AndyRC how much does a set up like this one cost? I am brand new to this type of hobby. Thank you
Excellent, thanks for the video. Always nice to see how the pros do it! Picked up some nice tips on how to keep things tidy.
Great build and great commentary. thanks

so cheers and thanks again.
GREAT video.
Flying quads isn't all about high end gear, and a 'LOCKED QUAD'.
It's all about having fun.
definitely although this quad is pretty locked :)
Well done Andy on this really makes sense and I have learnt so much keep it going please. Other things I would like to see it difference in battery's and a cheap quad set up to an expensive one cheers
what could I do if my naze32 board does not connect to the PPM receiver?
try checking the uart is correctly selected in the ports
You can get the Radiolink t8fb that use s-bus but that radio is not that configurable. You can only access the menu via a cable to your computer
Why is the ground wire not needed on the ESC?
the ESC is already connected to the ground of the pdb so its not needed
hi, the video transmitter is out of stock on banggood. is there another which you would recommend at all?
so I did this build but used a few different parts. I am having problems with the goggles and video. I am using the same vtx and the eachine VR 007 goggles. the issue I'm having is that I only get a few feet of range on the frequencies and channels that I have tried. I am using a GoPro that normally works fine so could you maybe tell me what you think is wrong
Could the 12v version of the regulator used for the flight controller, fix the video noise?
You mention on your video that the propellers you chose vibrate at low rpms. I did a search for alternative propellers and I keep bumping with propellers that are called "fishbone" shape. What's the difference between these are the regular looking ones.... are the better or just look fancier?
Could I use a naze 32 acro rev 6 board in this build? I've got a brand new lying around. Cheers
Is it OK to leave the ESC's signal ground unconnected like that?
The zip-tie antenna idea is AWESOME!
thanks it works well :)
@AndyRC will I be able to use this Foxeer camera with my X251? does it have its own transmitter?
Why do you have to use 2 cameras ? is there not a cheap fpv camera that records ?
hd cameras have delay in them and dont handle light as well
Hi Andy another question do you use the boot holes to put the pins in to power the flight controller Thanks Andy! Rich
Andy this is gunna be a real noob question. If I'm using spectrum and have a satellite can & how do I use it on this flight controller..??
What is the name of the HD camera you used. The link is not working.
hello andy, by the way how much money so we can complete build like your video without Googles. thanks.
If you run the camera off of regulated 12 volts, is there still a way to get the OSD to show battery voltage?
camera has a separate voltage wire that runs to the pdb it doesnt take the voltage form the camera
AndyRC Thanks I've been trying to decide between the HS1177 or RunCam swift, have you got an opinion?
pretty much the same camera id say 1177 just cus i know it better iv got a swift to try soon
AndyRC Okay looking forward to a review of the Swift!
:)
great job Andy looks like alot work went into this Quad. really looks to have paid off. very enjoyable vid great job thank you for doing that vid
Thanks for the Feedback John cheers
Np
what i need to choose at f3 sp racing? deluxe 10dof or acro 6dof? some information about them.
thank you.
About that SPF3 Flight Controller: should I get Acro or Deluxe version?
Hey, i ordered all the parts to build this quad next week, i have some batteries from the past (2200 mah 4s lipos with 70c, can i use them or are they too heavy?
Andy, I have the same charger and I like it. however, I recently bought a pair of fatshark Dom V3's and I tried to charge the battery and it keeps telling me that there is a balance port error. Is there something I don't know or maybe the battery is faulty?
Hi Andy I have a question which hole do I solder the signal wire to + - or s I think its s Thanks Andy I'll let you know how it goes.
yes S stands for signal cheers
Would you recommend this built for beginners and is it still up to date?
hey andy, what size are the nuts? I can't use my 5mm nor my 6mm wrench!
Can this frame fit 6 inch props?
Sorry, but what you are applying stress to the PDB on a flight controller, Is there not a 5 volt?
+Alex Ka sorry I don't follow. Which section of the vid is the question about thanks
Shouldn't you re-heatshrink the ESC's, as to not short the solder pads to the carbon frame?
no theres no need they dont come in contact. the underneath is fully covered
Hi... wouldn't you need LC filtering for the VTX & camera power supply wires?
I also have a question: If a PDB has a 5v and a 12v outlet, will that 12v outlet work if I only use a 3S LiPo? In other words, can I still use it to power my VTX (needs 7-16v) or will it shut down unless I use a 4S LiPo?
no need to a lc filter these days. yes a 3s will work with that setup
Andy could I ask you a question about the desolding iron what is the alligator clip for a ground? Thanks Andy Rich
its to help u hold the wires. not a ground
Thank you Cheers! I almost have all the parts for my "cheap quad build" I going to build it on Christmas Day! Thank You! Rich
wonderful please post any vids of it id love to see. cheers
Ok
why not use heat shrink over the antennas to secure them to the zip ties
u can do that too of course
Do you really have to de-solder the ground off of the ESCs?
Constantine Apostolou
No
i Andy sorry to keep bothering you but I'm at the point of putting in the pins to the flight control board for the first regulator. do you put the pins in the boot holes? thanks Rich.
no that will short it. put it in the two below the boot + and -
Dear Rc Andy, (Referance the SP Racing F3) does the Boot pins need to be installed for the board to be flashed in Cleanflight or Betaflight. Thanks
no it only needs the boot shorted if the boards become bricked. cheers
Thanks
the only purpose is to make a neater build so you can attach it to the FC if you like (i did this in my 210 build if u want to see how to do that)
I was also trying to build my own but some goofy seller in Aliexpress sent me 4*CCW motors by mistake. Waiting for him to respond and resend will take ages so I started to build my quad anyway. Will only the nylock nuts do the job? Do you think this self thread locking is a requirement or optional?
Why Do you de solder the ground off the Esc? I soldered the ground to the FC. Is this a Problem?
its just not needed but wont do harm if u include it
Andy I can't get a camera strap from bangggod is there any where else to get a camera strap? Thanks RIch
I get mine from picnicquads
Really well thought-out and complete build video. Thanks!
Thanks for the nice feedback cheers
What is that green "GoPro" type camera that you have?
Did he use the cheaper parts or did he use the upgraded parts mentioned after the cost?
could get some long heat shink to hold the antennas to the zipties
yep u can do that check out the 210 build i did after this cheers
Would it be possible for you to do a build with altitude hold for the armature film makers
i have done one check out my high end 450 quad in the playlist cheers
How does this compare to the Medium Build?
Even in Dec 2021 That rip at the end was awesome! And that track tho...
The motors are good but the included nuts really suck. Get them separately so you can have all clockwise thread shafts and use normal steel locknuts.
i found them pretty nice myself
How much does it weigh?
hey andy, any recommendation on motors nowdays? thanks in advance!
Can you solder the PDB directly to the flight controller? Shouldn't the input power to the flight controller be 5V?
yes needs to be 5v cheers
AndyRC but isn't the output power from the Martian II pdb directly from the battery? :)
Would this one work on 3s? I dont wanna buy that expensive charger but i have a 3s charger, which 3s battery would work?
+Eng_JJ 25 yes works on a 3s cheers
AndyRC thanks for the quick reply, didn't think you would be checking this comment section still, that's what I call actually caring about subscribers :D
Anyways which one specifically would you recommend?
While programming APM Planner says, "Compass not healthy."
can you please help me with this problem.
Regards Anuj
It's Got Everything use betaflight to configure everything you can see every signal going in and change pretty much anything softwarewise
What pins go where if you're using the PPM Receiver???
Hey, if you use PPM you would just plug the three wire in to the PPM port in your receiver. Im am about to built this with a few swapped parts but I let you know if I can give a better response. There are tons of videos out there, watch his review for the wizard, there is a similar setup for PPM in there
I have 2 questions
Would you recommend a cc3D flight controller OR a naze 32 for a cheap racing drone?
Should I buy a whole DIY drone kit all together OR buy the parts individually to build it?
Thanks, Jacob
id go with an spracing f3 personally. and I always suggest you build one otherwise when it crashes you wont know how to fix it ;)
Do you think 45C batteries is good enough for this build? I alreafy bought a pair of Turnigy Graphene 1500mah 45c packs for this build and realised that you were using 65c packs.
45c will be fine yes
Hi Andy, Thanks for the video! I'm building my first quad exactly the same as this - except I changed two components.
XSR receiver for my Taranis, and also TBS Unify Pro HV video receiver with Triumph Antenna.
Do you think I will still need the Voltage regulator considering I have a higher quality Vtx?
its more likely that the tbs vtx has a good regulator so i would try without it first.
Great video. Found it after smashing my quad up earlier today and helped with some replacement components
great hope u get it fixed!
got exact same build and it flies amazing thank you Andy!!
What power distribution board are you using
its the martian 2 included pdb. :)
Very helpful. It must've taken a LONG time to edit all that!
So You've bridged that regulator pins on the bottom of controller? @27:22
no the bridge was a mistake nothing should be bridged cheers
Thanks!
What's the Payload it can carry ??
My radio is able to bind with the receiver but in the receiver page in betaflight, the controls do not show up, it seems the radio is not connected. What should I try
it depends on the radio what are you using? and what receiver
the ppm version FLYSKY that you showed in the video
"Diatone Micro BEC 5V 500mA Module For RC Multirotors 78 Series Regulation Chip" is out of stock in Bang good, is other voltage, 6v or 12v, can be used to build this quad? besides, is the regulator from Pololu can be used to replace the diatone micro?
no it needs to be 5v but can be any 5v reg yes
@AndyRC, please elaborate why you need 30A ESC?
you dont really.
So is it possible to change it to 20A one for this motors? I'm not sure how to count that.. But I'm extremely interested as I'd like to build a quad myself too :)
So you have two different regulators: one for the FC and the other one is for FPV Camera, is this correct? Can't you just use one regulator for both, since they are both connected to 12V output?
the regulator for the FC is 5v and does not produce enough amps to power both. the vtx and camera runs of 12v
How do you configure your center of gravity? What CG do you think is best (high, low, centered on camera position,) and why?
theres not a lot of room on these quads to play about with the cog. i have it in the center of the FC which should be in the center of the craft but really pids will compensate for slight inaccuracy if cg, not as important as planes
Thanks for the quick reply!
nice video this controller Flysky FS-i6X 2.4GHz 10CH AFHDS 2A RC Transmitter With X6B i-BUS Receiver is better ?
watched the whole vid, but what is the weight? without mobius with and without battery?
its 600 grams auw
Andy Im new in the fpv hobby and I was wondering what props should I put on my 250 quad (2000kv motors and total weight is about 700g). Any suggestions? And I got bit curious, how can you fly with only 1000 degree/s roll and pitch rate? Im flying with 1500 degrees/s and it's still a bit slow for me.
700 grams seems really heavy for a 250 what size motors are u using that are 2000kv? also need to know if u are running 3s or 4s thanks
using 4s battery and 2208/2000 cobra motors.
id use dal props oR HQ5040 links in the description cheers
would you enable serial rx on uart 1,2 or 3? when using a cppm spektrum reciver?
no its not needed for ppm only sbus and dsm satalite
Dear Mr. Andy, what is the difference between the IR block and IR sensitive?
ir block is for day flying and ir sensitive is for night flying cheers
Thanks!
Hey, so I am new to the whole Banggood thing. Is it a trustworthy site? Are there any things bad about it?
Banggood sells items that they dont even have in stock and then holds up the payment as a delay cover when they wait for them to arrive. Use Aliexpress instead they have almost the same prices and independent sellers so you dont get scammed so easily.
at what voltage do i need to change the battery
Hi Andy I have another question what voltage flight controller regulator do I need 6V or 12V Thank Rich
u need 5v cheers
thanks Andy
Hi Andy I building quad now. I bought mainly the same parts except different 25A opto esc. Do you never connect signal ground or was it just those esc?
i sometimes connect it if im being lazy. but the esc is already grounded so theres no need for it, makes for a neater build without it. my next build im connecting them just for a change
Hi Andy, I have a problem changing the direction of motor rotation. In BLHeli Suite the com port section is disabled. Is any USB driver needed? Great tutorial!! Thanks!!
you need the vcp drivers from ftdichip.com and it should work. cheers
AndyRC Perfect! Thanks!
Thanks again Andy always learning from you my friend. keep up the very good quality of videos u make.
hope your well?
Would you recommend this frame over the ZMR250 V2 (4mm also) ? Thanks for the detailed video.
i prefer this one as it suits the 5 inch frame and the quality was better than the zmr v1 but if you want the option of 6 inch as well as 5 then the zmr will be fine also.
51:58 aren't we not supposed to plug the battery when the quad is connected to the pc?
+Joel James no it's fine
AndyRC ;) glad you replied....
You got yourself another sub :D
Dear Andy on the fpv camera do I need NTSC or PAL Thanks RIch
+Slugo's RC what video receiver are u using?
sorry to keep bothering you but I watched the build video and ordered the NTSC one with the IR Block Thanks again Rich
no worries enjoy
Hi Andy I don't mean to ask stupid repetive questions but would this be a good first build? Thanks Rich
a good first build yes but make sure u have mastered a micro before flying it :-)
Nice vid Andy, I am about to order all these parts to help my little brother get into the hobby and I was wondering if the 4s battery is necessary, he is very paranoid that it will have a bit to much power over a 3s as it is his first Quad.
Thanks
Ac3inSpac3 u can buy a 3s and 4s and try it out. i did always 3s but i did ones a 4s and i dont wanne go back to 3 :p (rip my englis)
Rich
Hi Rich sounds like a codec problem are u using vlc player? cheers
So how do you do it for ppm because i thinking of getting that remote instead of the pwm that looks more complicated
just plug one wire into the ppm slot of the receiver and use the ppm setting in CF/BF
So i only need one cable and CF/BF is in the controller settings not another cable?
Does anyone know whether you could also use the dys be 1806 motors. there is a offer for about 40$ for 4 motors and 4 blheli 16A esc at hobbyking?
How many tabs do you have open
Beginers question, can I use my Hubsan advanced contriller with this quadcoper.
mike
+Mike Woodmansey no you can't sadly hubsan has its own protocol
Thanks
Great vid as always
If you were doing this today would you change anything?
Just curious, can you use another PDB to eliminate the the noise and the use of a regulator? Or can you only use the provided PDB with the frame?
i find the one i used here worked the best u could use another pdb yes
AndyRC Thanks Andy! Keep making great videos :D
Hi Andy, do you have a build log for a cheap micro quad (under 150mm) banggood based?
+Micro Brushed brushed or brushless ?
brushless!
All banggood micro fpv brushless wanted here too :)
they are coming :)
AndyRC wonderful!
Nice build, I am building the same frame. Just one question, wouldn't it be better to rotate the flight controller so the USB port is on the side and the JST connectors are front and rear? Maybe that looks cleaner. I'm using a SP Racing F3 with Sbus, please let me know. Cheers!
yes it would but u can still access it through the back too
