Back in the 80's (yes I'm old) I made an ATV video transmitter from a kit and drove an RC tank around the outside of my house in the snow in the dark. I also have a UA-cam video of a different FPV RC truck tricked out with a can of wasp spray to get rid of the wasp nest in the attic. Mostly made it for a fun way to get rid of the wasps.😁
I LOVE this project. I'm absolutely NOT an expert in the matter, so take the following recomendation with grain of salt :D I believe getting the quad rotors lower when in flying-mode could greatly improve the stability. According to what I know, drones are very good at ballancing when their center of gravity is above their center of lift. This is because drones control for roll by accelerating the rotors on the side the drone rolls toward in order to bring it back up to level. When the center of mass is bellow the center of lift, this accelerates the drone's mass like a pendulum, and causes the drone to overcompensate. Then the same thing happens in occilation. When the center of mass is above the center of lift, this extra power has the opposite affect. The force, which is greater for greater roll, is matched with a greater and greater lever force from gravity. And as the lever force decreces, so does the power of the rotor, and eventually it returns to level without occilation! Thank you for making these awesome things!
But having the centre of mass higher reduces the stability. If the centre of mass is above the centre of thrust, the craft actually becomes statically unstable (though not unstabilisable), like an inverted pendulum, meaning the controller has to do more work. If the issue is the tuning of the controller then that should be what is adjusted.
Or if the issue is the rotation inertia of the craft, then moving the centre of thrust closer to the centre of mass may help, but the centre of mass should remain below the centre of thrust if stability is the objective
I'm planning an IR Drone build. It might be a good idea to run IRs on yours so your lights aren't blinding the neighbors and it gives you a bit of a "Stealth" mode if you include a switch on your running lights.
I can't see if you have a HUD, but if not, you should code something up for the display and add a battery indicator to the main screen. Speaking of which, you should set it up so that the main screen swivels out of the way. If you do it vertically like a gull wing door on a sports car, then it'll be significantly cooler too.
4:20 You're worried about Ice on the tracks how about all the ice that's literally raining down on your exposed pcb on top of the drone, watching that is giving me pure anxiety lol
yes was it really that complicated to print some enclosure for that :D also idk why hi not using angle/horitont mode for flying when that print have so much flexing on its own already it must be hard af to hold stable in acro mode
You could make a bigger version and a put a starlink mini on top, then you could put in the middle of some remote area and control from anywhere, that would be cool.
i have a great idea for the chair for the next, a fixed wing fpv drone and vr headset with head tracking and a dji o3 camera movement gimbal is controlled by your head tracking, oh and the best part, starlink mini for infinite range, maybe even solar panels on the top and team up with peter stripol to pull it off because of the size the project would be, but a drone that can fly anywhere in the world would be a crazy title
Man, I always wanted to do something like this but like an FPV RC car with simulator, wheel and all. Cool to see someone else did something I could only really dream about.
This reminds me of a project I did back in 2002 with an old X10 2.4ghz camera mounted on a toy RC car called the Ricochet. Range sucked but it was a lot of fun! Great idea and video!
There was no part where we saw it properly fly. It was kind of the point of making it. I know it didn't work in the day but it would've been nice if you tried it in the dark, cause there was no snow around it could've worked. Apart from that, absolutely amazing vid! Well done!
I'd love to see some range comparisons against the same components on a flight-only version, so you can really see the range benefit on a payload delivery system for that sweet government contract that is likely busting down your door. I really like watching rctestflight's tech explorations with all the maths and visuals. Amazing content!
You should make the body made out of carbon fibres so its light weight doesn't affect the flying so it could hide the wires and the 👩 from the rains, mud or snow 👍
Did you do something to waterproof the electronics? How does it not get fried by all that water? This is such an amazing design and build. I could see you setting up some kind of obstacle course with tasks that would make it even more like a video game. Thanks for sharing the fun with us!
I built a DIY tank with 3watt analog vtx and elrs 2.4 (what i use on almost every drone) i explored my neighborhood. I control it from insode my house. But it was slow so i did a rc car with dji vista that does like 40mph but so bouncy. Just not i built a henglong m1a2 with walksnail moonlight. Looks so cool. I explore neighborhpod. The workers get a kick out of all my drones
A quick vacuum molded polycarbonate body on that thing and you're good to go. A little spray on conformal coat would go a long ways for now though This is an incredible design.
How much range are you getting ? I would love do exactly what you are doing which is being in my house looking at my TV and ride the car outside around my property without signal loss (video and transmitter) I have a similar setup but with Walksnail-CADDX (without SimRig) and the thing I have problem with is the range of the video by itself: in open field or when having the antennas towards the vehicle it works flawless but whenever I am behind a building or not seeing the car or too much obstruction, the video signal quality decrease and go bad fast. I tried contacting a big brand antenna manufacturer to know if I could swap bigger and longer/better quality antenna but those stock antennas used on the VRX and TX are LHCP (left hand circularly polarized) and most of the 5 Ghz antennas available on the market (not RC related) are linear polarized which is different and will bring deterioration and 4-6 dB loss or even more... I am kinda unsure if I should try it anyway an buy expensive bigger and longer antenna to see if any gain is possible.
You could use this to make a live action horror game where you have a dark house or maze to drive through with a few of your buddies jump scaring you in the dark.
This comment relates to the RC car your building. I think you'll need to go with 4wd. I haven't seen any 2wd models in the videos I've watched(which is hundreds of hours) also try to lower your CG. As a passionate RC/Drone/Anything tech related I love watching your videos. Best of luck on the 100mph goal.
A couple of years ago, this would have been military grade tech.
Now anyone can have their own killer drone.
What a time to be alive
Yep and that's exactly what I'll have one day.. big ass RC rig with a turret on top 😂
we can watch corn from a head set VR 4k. what a time we live in

Bro u need better editing in ur vids
@@Code_Cyber considering his video is 18 years old it is ok for what it is , there were not much choice of video cameras back then as there are now.

This certainly does look extremely fun.
Make it so the tanks has a gyro to transfer motion to your chair 😅

I'm sure that exposed circuit board is "waterproof".
🤣🤣 I thought that was funny lol.

you ca also add a robotic arm, if the drone flips use the arm to position the drone.
I can't wait for the video on how to build the chair easier, its gonna be so cool if I can build it.
Hell yeah, Michael dropped🔥
I’m anxiously awaiting that next video!!! Dying to understand how you’ve gotten the usb controllers to work. Great work so far!!!
This strangely reminds me of the movie "Home Alone 1" and it's December too😁

That's so cool you built the Drone that I thought about 10 years ago except mine was a car that would start flying on the go 😊
this man is crazy .keep on buddy

For the screen problem of the chair I'd recommend xr or vr glasses. Much more compact and immersive...
Bro is really gunning for that LMT contract
Put an accelerometer+gyroscope on it and move your seat to that signal
since its a drone this stuff is already onboard
That's what the seat does in the previous build video, when he had it synced to some RC plane gyros :)

freakin awesome! that is something i need some day in my life!
Quois.. Je Paris que James Bond serais jaloux de voir ça., Très beau project félicitation.
You would make Two separate one and turn them into tanks that can shoot, and have battle with a buddy either flying or on the ground
great idea. if you could add 4g LTE connectivity you can explore random roof tops
Home inspection made fun 😁
I ride and fly on my EUC 😏
Nice work dude

it might have been a good idea to also the fpv feed along side the others so we would see what you're seeing

Good Michael 🎉 congratulations for you your work is very interesting, i hope you support for Indians people, our Indian people is very intelligent 😮❤❤
bro i love your video it is inspiring
Wouldn't it be better mounting a 360 camera and a VR headset?
Whats the range on a good analog system for the camera and pricing on what you recommend? First video awesome work! Blessings
Make it so the tanks has a gyro to transfer motion to your chair 😅
How did you manage to have live video on the screen from the dji camera module? Are you streaming from a dji vr? Thanks
think i need to make a non drone version with a snow blower attachment for myself lol
i want to see you improve the drone more so i can fly better and handle rougher ground and maybe even a way to flip itself over again
Amazing job , interesting invent but you can prepare a cover for its electronic equipment
Nossa esse projeto e muito sensacional mesmo oque mais me deixou feliz foi a Dublagem Automática pois sou do Brasil.
I have only one doubt how did you get your o3 air units video on your rig?
Are you using the trainer port to send command from computer to radio transmitter?
Super cool!
well I hope you had BVLOS for this
I'm hella frustrated that you didn't try to fly it again.
Great video otherwise! Merry Christmas!
parabéns pelo seu projeto , fiquei admirado pela sua sabedoria .....
Very cool! 🎉
Very nice

It’s so cool
what is the protocol communication ? is that bluetooth?
Future applications:
1.) Uber but working from home.
This is STUPID COOL
The video ended but we haven't seen it fly from the FPV chair?
can you give us a electronic schematic for the drone? it's very hard to rebuild it when you don't have any idea how to put the electronics together
This is so cool, Michael!! Very impressive. Where did you learn how to do this?
DARPA should hire you
Pretty cool
Use the new star link mini to go anywhere PLEASE!
realy nice guys

How are you getting hdmi out from?
how does ur electronics not short out constantly due to snow
Sir, if i may ask which type of engineering course did you study?
well done thanks for sharing
I'd ditch the tracks and fit TPU treads around the wheels.
Can't wait for the next video
By the way - what type of filament were you using (the green stuff)?
Carbon Fibre PLA from Bamboo Labs.
Where can I buy one????
You remind me my favorite class mate who has a same face as you but you look older than him and hes 16.

I am interested in this type video
So I subscribed your YT channel 😊

I hope keep uploading such videos in future🎉
Now it only needs a robot form
im gona need to see that bad boy fly son
It was flying in the previous video.
You should keep upgrading this thing by addung toggleable head lights, flamethrower, powder bombs, fart spray and more!!!
Goon cave for the tank
Nice ❤
Maybe transmit sound and/or head tracking
leaf blower would have helped you clean your drone
Michael Rechtin post!
How soon is this turned into a weapon????
Got here in under a minute
You dont need bigger light, You need wide angle lens
