IMO, this is a very underrated album. Not as many offerings, because side II is all Echoes, one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. Not sure if you react to that, but have a bowl ready.

A couple of months ago I was eating at a Wahlburgers in a Hy-Vee grocery store when Gilmour's cover of "There's No Way Out Of Here" came on whatever the restaurant had tuned to.
...I was kinda floored. I stopped eating to just sit and listen.
It WAS a good day. 😊

Seamus was Steve Marriott's German Sheppard that Gilmour was watching while Humble Pie was touring the US.
I think you're going to like going back further in the Floyd catalog. Lots of goodness awaits! Thanks.

The football team is Liverpool. The song is chalked "you'll never walk alone" (YNWA)
David Gillmore actually done a duo with Paul Mccarthy at the, now famous cavern club in Matthew Street, Liverpool. The just turned up at the club and done a few songs then left.

Yeh -- Pink Floyd before they realized that everybody gets old, and their parents and schools were the reason they were so messed up. The bits of humor are quite welcome here. I love Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, before that massive darkness set in. Thanks Roger!

The dog was singing (and a groovy chord change in his solo). They held a microphone in front of him as he howled with the guitar and piano. You can watch this. I think it's the Live At Pompeii film.

I never tracked with the disdain for the middle tracks off this album. I can see why but I always enjoyed them. "Fearless" for sure is a strong track. I'm gonna go play it on my acoustic after I leave this comment. Great solid acoustic rock song, and "St. Tropez" - like is there a better song for a BEACH PLAYLIST? Or a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway in California or something comparable on the Mediterranean I have never been too...I can imagine driving a convertible around the windy roads on the Greek Isle of Santorini...It is so like 'chill on the sand and let the breeze roll across you and waves sound in the background' - perfect. And David's playing is so rooted in the blues, despite how incredibly he developed his own unique tone and style to fit their music seamlessly across all kinds of melodies, moods, and sonic landscapes, that while the blues is evident quite often, and he obviously evolved into a world class all around player held in the highest heights of guitar legends, I like the simple delving back to the true original 'quasi' Delta blues style, from which he probably first fell in love with playing (as did so many of his contemporaries in the British Blues movement). Its nice to hear him just do an old acoustic blues song. He is one of my 2 primary guitar heroes and influences, so I studied and absorbed his every note in my teens. I didn't realize it then, but he was laying the foundation for my future love and lifelong passion for the Blues. As for those two songs, I see it as he and Roger each got to have a little fun and sure, the dog howling may not have been a great choice for musical staying power for the track over the decades, but it is easily forgivable. I mean, a couple years prior they made the song with all the squirrels and rabbits chittering and chattering while on Lysergic - so it's a vestige of the old as they head to the new. Those 2 tracks - as I've read through the years - are the lynchpin of most negative critique of the album, but for me, they epitomize this album as an expression of experimentation, enjoying music, and the ability to imagine the band just having fun together, a few albums under their belts, coming into their full selves. And all the while what's to come has got to be humming ever more beneath the surface. With all the storied tension that was to follow, it's nice to just think of them happy and having a good time (which it genuinely appears to be as such when you see the 'Pompeii' film.) That being said, "Echoes" and 'happy' aren't really words I'd put together much, but the lack of cohesion in the album (lack by comparison to what's to follow) is kind of nice, with the run of 4 albums from 'Dark Side' to 'The Wall' all being so - and it is all in a good/great way - SO cohesive and intended to be full ideas and listened to in their entirety, this album just works for me. And it does feel cohesive - with such powerful statement made by the incredible opening and closing tracks. "Echoes" may be their greatest extended musical piece (I'm not 100% on that, as compared to the other 2 being "Shine On" and "Dogs" and each so brilliant, it is a toss up for me - those are just my personal 3 not to say other earlier songs couldn't be considered, just my opinion, they're such an amazing accomplishment artistically to have created that trio of songs that all share DNA and yet have distinct sounds apart from each other), when I was spending a lot of time with this album upon first immersing myself in it, the light heartedness of these songs always gave me room to breath going into that epic journey of an ending. Enjoying this a lot! Thanks, peace//

Good spot, it’s the Liverpool Football Club supporters singing You’ll Never Walk Alone. It’s a bit strange because Roger Waters is a big fan of Arsenal football club and football rivalries in England can be very deep amongst supporters. The band even formed their own football team in the 1970s, Pink Floyd FC, I assumed they used to play kickabouts with the road crew and other English bands. I know Robert Plant is a big Wolves fan and used to play football.

The rising guitar chords on the first track remind me of It's Because I Love You by Aussie group The Masters Apprentices.....who were overseas at the time and recorded songs in the USA .

This is probably the strangest album cover on a Floyd album. It is two pictures laid one over another the background is a close up of an ear (with some kind of filter) and the overlay pic is of ripples in water. It is said that Storm Thorgerson (did all their cover art) had suggested a close up of a Baboons butt for the Meddle album cover and one of the band members piped up with "I'd rather have an ear under water" not sure who said it. So that's what Storm brought in for them to approve.
