Awesome way to wake up to first cup of coffee! Thank you for sharing your adventure! I earlier mentioned my great grandfather being washed overboard after going around the Horn. His name was Edward Michael Devaney on the barque Callirhoe out of Liverpool. Washed overboard "by heavy seas" at Latitude 45 S, Longitude 85W (off the coast of Chile) enroute to San Francisco on 16 June 1886. If you are in that area after emerging on the other side of the Horn, please give him my regards!
Curtis reminds me of Tarzan in later parts of the Edgar R. Burroughs book, when Tarzan wagers with the British officers that he could kill lions with only a knife. The officers are in disbelief at the candor with which Tarzan takes the bet. ‘A wave just broke over the whole boat’ like it’s a casual affair. Thanks mate!

That's a alot of things to be managing between the two of you and although you don't have a cook, film editor, other crew, you do get to share the experience together and without managing a team. I like the improvised barber hauler on the jib, shows those racing techniques have a place at 52 south!

Don't go offshore unprepared though, sailing the cold waters of the 50s are the real deal. Remember, both of us are very experienced sailors and had thousands of miles under our belts before we bought the boat. Our boat is also very well prepared and we have all the safety gear.
Great video and adventure. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
At 0:36, was that Jimmy Carr's laugh? ;-)
Hoo Hoo! Hahahaha! Curtis is quite the comedian :-)
@@SailingSweetRuca Sounded like Jimmy's inhaling laugh. He's irreverently profane, but hilarious... Eenlish bloke.

Stay safe
Thanks Brad!
Be nice to see where you store your sails.
Perhaps another boat tour in the works sometime!
THIS is why I subbed to your channel. Thank you for this epic episode. Is Roxy sick?
So glad to hear it! Glad we could deliver on the big conditions. Roxy has not been sick in a long time, thankfully! We know to let her lick the potatoe salad bowl while offshore now...
Heavy Waves, but it seems like Sweet Ruca is handling them well. Stay Safe and Enjoy!
The big J loves these conditions. Same to you Michael!
OK... Brown or Red sauce in the Bacon & Egg Sarny? 😀 Nice going guys... 😀
😋 Haha, mmmmmm! We can't divulge our secret sauce ;-)
@@SailingSweetRuca 🤣😂 😀 Well whatever it is your adding, it looks like it’s helping Kate get a nomination for the ‘Gonads of Steel’ Award for her filming efforts... Well done Kate... Great Shots... 🌊📸😍
Do you have a windvane?
We do not.
I love your videos. You guy’s are so into it & coping so well through the blood hard work you both put in. Your enthusiasm seems boundless thanks to Kates cooking no doubt and then theses Roxy barking orders at you😅. Seriously though I really have to say that I’m loving every episode. If I had just a little bit of this stuff>💰ld give it to you guys, but unfortunately on my current income I am struggling to keep my head above the waves can be frightening as they seem to be getting larger. Thank you 3 so much for unwittingly taking me along 💚👍🖖🇳🇿😎.
Thanks for the great comment Wayne! Take care of your self and keep pushing forward. We are glad to have you sailing along virtually with us!
Thanks for another great video I do appreciate the effort you put in to post on the go. It is nice to see you two relishing in the open ocean conditions. I am also heading to Cape Horn from the Caribbean in 2024 so watching with interest, love your channel.
Hi Simon! Glad you enjoyed it! You won't regret coming this way. It is worth the extra effort!
@@SailingSweetRuca considering you are down in the 50's you appear to be having an exceptional voyage weather wise which has got myselfing now planning the option of bypassing the strait of mallegan and rounding the Horn if i get weather is as good as yours. Thanks for the insight.
It is always nice to have a boat which goes to weather as you do.
r u doing all your weather/route planning. you re on top of it.
Yes, we do all of our own weather routing and planning on board.
@@SailingSweetRuca again great job
great sailing footage, really enjoying it
Many thanks!
"Don't forget Navigator" as the 7th crew member. and Tactician...8th crew member. and....Roxi gets a playmate....9th crewmember...and...
Haha! Forgot about those! Moooooo! ;-)
Note a considerable improvement in the taste of fried eggs if you salt them before the white sets. So crack them in the pan with the salt right there and sprinkle in immediately. I don't know why but it works.
Thanks for the cooking tips! 🧂🍳
Autopilot is such a strange thing, a person in order to rest has to put complete faith in this device, so cool and yet so scary…
It does take some getting used to.
👍
Thanks!!! 👍
What's the reel all about on the port stern quarter?
It will get put to use in the next episode ;-)
Holup, so 30 foot standing waves are a thing? I don't even have sufficient swear words for that, it sounds like event horizon scale of destruction!
Completely agree!
Y’all are crazy. I’m telling your family what you’re up to.
Haha don't let them read this! 🤫😅
Delos ran 7 crew to pound out the amount of content they did.
Wow! That's a lot of beer! Delos was a great inspiration!
