Congratulations on the 25k subscribers. Love to see the elation of your sailing. Was surprised at how much the wind & wave was pushing the bow in in the dolphin shots. If it were me, I would be thinking, I bit off more than I can chew.
Hope you can get a new drone shipped to a collection point along the Beagle Channel. Great choice of music as usual. Love how you can dial down the Ruca to reduce load, prepare for the night, slow down, yet she sails well. Then you also know how the safely keep the speed up when required. Unlike in the epic film 'Master and Commander' you haven't lost the mizen mast or had to cut a crewmember loose with the wreckage of the mizen!
Wait until you start crossing the Pacific ocean. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot more ocean. Sorry you’re having a bad day. If both of you are anything like this Kurt your constant need for perfection is what maintains your sanity and is what feeds your sense of pleasure. I see it in your sailing. Damn you got me scared shitless. Sailing at night in rough weather is not for the meek. 😮
Quick tourist Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion: Double the Celsius then add 32. 10C x 2 = 20. Then, to that the result, add 32. So, 20 + 32 = 52F. The actual conversion of 10C to F is 50F. The touristy conversion works fairly well (within a few) most everyday situations.
Yes, sort of. It hit the backstay and dangled by the solar panel wires. Can't be lucky twice I guess! That was our old, bigger drone as well, which luckily we still have!
In the fifties, at night, blasting through the waves when most UA-cam cruisers would be cowering in their bunks, Kate lets out a “Yippee Ki-yay MF”! Awesome. Love this channel. Proper sailing.
It’s nice to see more sailing in challenging conditions. I do have a question though, it seems that you don’t open your boom vang when reefing. Reef points aren’t parallel to the foot, but angled so that in rougher conditions the boom tip is lifted further from the wave tops. But you seem to leave it low, and let the reefed clue fly. Is there a reason? Thanks and I can’t wait to see you double the horn!
Hi Nomad! Good question. The rigid vang just physically doesn't go that high. Also, on the upper reefs the stack of cars at the tack needs to be accommodated for.

This is a very nice sailing video, congrats.
Thank you very much!
Haha good movie though! Lol! Thanks for the kind comment and vote of confidence!
Hi Kate and Curtis, what temperature ranges are you dealing with…. John and Penny, Ontario, Canada… oooooooo
Anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees Celcius during the time of this episode 🥶 Hello to our frienda from the north from Michigan and Ohio!
Thanks for the comment and kind words! Lots more sailing to do for sure!
A good little tip to get us close! Thank you! 🥰
Is there some badge, tattoo or name you get for rounding the horn?
Supposed to be an ear piercing, but I'm sure there is a tattoo as well. Not sure we will be partaking however!
11:46 the top of your mast is bent pretty far back. Looks like you've got to ease up the back stay maybe?
Didn't the drone crash into the wind generator on a previous episode? I believe you saved it that time.
Yes, sort of. It hit the backstay and dangled by the solar panel wires. Can't be lucky twice I guess! That was our old, bigger drone as well, which luckily we still have!
Sorry about the drone and gopro. There must be 1,000 drones on the ocean floor. : (
So true! The show must go on!
Are you planning on spending time in the Patagonian canals and anchorages? If so, are you using the Rolfo/Ardrizzi nautical guide?
We are indeed! Thanks for looking out 🙂
In the fifties, at night, blasting through the waves when most UA-cam cruisers would be cowering in their bunks, Kate lets out a “Yippee Ki-yay MF”! Awesome. Love this channel. Proper sailing.
Hahaha! Send it!
