I'm a returning player from when the game first came out. Used to play and trade at the local Books a Million. This is very funny that you decided to do this video. I live in VA and Cimooo has been promoting the Pro Play Tour stop in Richmond next week. I'm hesitant to commit, mainly based on knowledge of vast amount of Meta and Rogue strategies and my lack of experience with Side Decking and some other important play experience. But I've been sucked into the game and assembled a Top Tier Rogue deck. Love watching you Yugitubers and the live duels like the replay of the NAWCQ recently. I really rambled haha Thanks for making this video and I really like your channel and this one will definitely make me think about the upcoming tournament!
As someone who played casually for years I’m proud to say that now I’m looking forward to competing. Just need to find areas to play and have some fun :) also thank you for these videos, it’s helped me a lot with getting back into this game after about 15 years

I personally don't go to tournaments because I don't know all the card interaction rules and most don't make sense to me. I'd miss a ton of opportunities and would need a dedicated judge just for my matches.
Most rulings are very simple. Just remember action words: Use, Activate, etc. and the keywords of the game. Your opponents will help you especially at a local level event no one actually cares about winning locals(bar a box tournament maybe). Locals is where you test your deck for high level events like regionals and ycs and since everyone wants the best testing they will help you become the best you can. It’ll get easier as the weeks go on.
Went to a locals last Friday and it was great! Got Ghost Ogre, Ghost Mourner, a new copy of Ash Blossom and the rest of the cards I needed for my vendread base!
Going to yugioh events is always fun. I went to my first regionals in years and i ended up in the top 32 which let me go to my first NAWCQ ever and it was a fun time, despite my round 1 opponent being really unsportsmanlike, all my other opponents and everyone else that i met were supper nice and supportive. Hopefully everyone can experience these events at least once
I'm here from the future in the year 2022 and after getting back into the game during the pandemic playing with my coworkers on our breaks or in the back after we punch out after having not played for many years, I'm now preparing for my very first tournament I found a card shop that is does tournaments on my day off thankfully.
I remember going to my LCS interested in getting back into it after being away for over 10 years. Naturally I had questions but the owner of the LCS didn't like the fact I had questions. He was rude to the point it was insulting. I ended up going to a different store in the next town over and they were super friendly and helpful with my questions. Fair to say that became my new LGS to attend events and of course spend money
The rush is a legit thing, good point Paul. Just finished school in April and working full time now and I find between exercise, social life, and work I haven’t been to locals in months and all I wanna do is play with my Guardragons before they’re taken from me damn I miss yugioh
As much as I really want to go, I live wayyyyyy too far away. None of my local card shops actually have tournaments for yugioh due to the game not being popular in my area. I do go to magic the gathering events though, that's about as close as I can get.
Locals costs like $5 maybe $10 if there’s a box tournament going on and most locals have free days, at least once a week. Go to those. Find a OTS near you if you can and give your mom the number so she can clear things up. The official Konami site has a list of stores just put in your zip code.
The only reason why i haven’t entered a tournament (locals at least) is i can’t drive so my friends parents have to pick is up at a specific time before the trafic starts and the time they pick us up is when the tournament starts
I started playing about a month and half at 2 o my local shops I have been attending once a week and so far the the people that I have met are outstanding, very welcoming, they are super friendly and teach me how to play , I’m currently playing a dark magician deck build as competitive as it can be and I went 3-1 at my locals this past Saturday playing against meta , not gonna lie I felt good beating the good decks
I can agree to this, stopped playing yugioh around the time synchros came out then came back and decided i want to give it a try again and went to my locals met some new people that helped me get back into the game and taught some of the mechanics that i missed mainly how pendulums and links worked an now we we see each other at locals maybe every week or say and have fun throwing together random decks for the tournaments. While it also showed me people that ive seen at my college and never talked to before and we bonded over the game and hang out a lot more outside of yugioh
"Not everyone is going to shark you" "Not everyone is playing the big bad meta decks" "you can win Playmats in the highest events!" I Feel this is the most disingenuous message y'all have ever sent. To get to the prizes that you tout in this video, you have to get to the top cuts, and at the top cuts, YES, everyone is going to shark you, YES Everyone is going to be playing the Big Bad Meta decks. I agree that playing online, is not 'playing' yugioh, but anyone who has a competitive locals, or goes to the occasional regional will see everything I said above if they don't get knocked out before the top cuts start to happen. I realise y'all want to encourage casual players to aim higher, but videos like these are ridiculous coming from a team of players who have gone to regionals to YCS's, to WCQs for years, who are trying to convince casual players to make that leap. Being casual is fine, and hopefully, those casual players have a casual locals. Those of us in popular, metro areas have no choice but to play meta, because our locals bring in the regional teams, playing to win.
THIS I stopped mid XYZ era having started playing competitive in the middle of the Synchro era. In the beginning, it was fun attending set release events but that’s it. That’s the only time when everyone’s enjoying themselves as well as winning a mat randomly (won two playmats at random) at my first event enticed me to keep coming back. I tried my best to attend weekly tournaments but eventually it left a bad taste for all you see are other casuals and then the regulars with top tier decks ALWAYS topping. At the time, I couldn’t afford a top tier deck and I slowly stopped attending altogether. There really isn’t any investment in time and money to play IRL imo. Even now, I could go out and buy a Sky Striker deck and possibly top but probably wouldn’t get too far considering the saturated player base using the same deck (or other top tier decks). Oh, and regionals is hella scary going in as a casual.
+Team APS My biggest thing is when people swear. I have to listen to that at work all day, and I don't wanna have to listen to that while I'm trying to relax and have fun. Also you save a lot of money just playing online. Unfortunately being in a small town means you don't have a lot of choices on who you can play against
Me and a group of friends show up to every regional we can. It's awesome seeing the extremely rare cards some vendors have, meeting new people, and of course having a full day to play the game. I usually show up with at least 60 dollars. You might run into a toxic player or 2 in the first couple rounds, but after that most of them leave because they're X2 now and have no hope of an invite to nationals which is sadly all they are there for.
i just sit by myself when at locals, unless i am in a tournament, even then, i sit alone in between rounds, and the only tournaments i've been to is just locals, even when regionals comes near me, and i have never topped, always placing towards the bottom of the list, and i never pull anything good, and i have never gotten better
Just my humble and simple opinion You could make the video with more editing and more dinamic, i think 10 plus minutes videos with only 1 person talking and appear 95% of the time can get a little........meh And with that the video would be better Idk, just my humble opinion PS I love this channel
I can agree fully. I was a newer player to the game, only fifteen years old, And I had a copy of Dingirsu. I was horrible with technology, so I could not sell it online, and I was afraid that my lack of a lot of Yugioh knowledge at the time would end up getting me scammed. But only did I meet these older people at my local card shop that were interested in the trade (of course) but they helped me work out the differences and refused to give me anything less that was not equal to The Dingirsu. They were really nice and not I am a regular at the tournament at the card shops.( up until recently of course)
I went to my first locals this weekend most fun I had in a long time and really help feed my competitive nature lol won the whole thing Friday went back Saturday and got spammed like a red headed step child lmao definitely gonna go back
Yugioh got hit hard in my area, alot of people migrated to either magic or dragon ball card game, some card places even stopped hosting tournaments cause they can't get many people together. Only one card shop does it now in my area.
So heres my situation: The nearest yugioh "locals" that has any tourney is always a Wednesday at 5:30 I get out of work at 5 like a normal person and the drives an hour away the next closest shop is an hour and a half away I'd love to compete but theres no way I can ever make it to ones around me any advice would help
Online ygopro can help you learn the effects of your cards so if anyone what’s to learn how to use there deck Better they can use there deck online to train and then you can battle others knowing the full extent of your deck🙂👍
I wish I could but ones that are 3 hours or closer never on good days be it finals day or seminar days for college. And the only locals I have only starts at 8pm on Saturdays and it's a 45 minute drive to that. so leave at 7pm and on wont get home until 11-1130pm breaks my heart. I just want a chance to play the game I grew up on.
Then give that locals a chance. Just do it once to find out if the drive is worth it and if the people are cool. One dude that goes to mine lives an hour away but he goes here almost every week because he loves this place and us.
@@questions7216 I've been to the couple but the problem is that there is usually only 4-5 people who show. There are even a couple of times that I went and no one showed so had to just drive home.
there are decks that force the opponent to play the grindy game. If you prefer this playstil play such a deck instead. For example you may like burning abyss.
I don't compete in tournaments and here's why: I find them boring. Especially if I'm losing every round or my opponent is taking 20 minutes to set up or playing solitaire, then prevents me from doing anything, that's not fun. Plus there's the downtime of waiting however long for everyone else to finish. If you find all of that entertaining then more power to ya but I don't.
Local tournaments are awesome, when I went my first time I got 4th with my Lunalight deck. Haven't matched that since but even then every time I've gone it's been so fun. My favourite experience is still my friend and I end up playing against each other at the end of the tournament. I take Game I've, He takes game two. Game three it looks bad, and I topdeck my sided Mystic Mine. It stalls out until he manages to pop it, goes for battle, and time is called. It felt so fitting
I am I kid what should I do I play casual and don't have a deck set on any card so what do u recommend I do not have cards to tribute summon most of my cards
I wish I can play in a tournament let alone "locals" they aren't anyin the city I am. Also I doubt their is any tournament since I live in the hood/ghetto and ever out of town locals Idk if alot of people even go to card shops and play. Plus having a full time job and not being rich with money for cards as well.
It is the best feeling when you can go to locals and win at least 1 duel with a nobody deck like Cloudians or Aquaactresses. (I like using decks no-one else uses)
I love going to my locals even when I dont top I tend to have fun we have a bunch of good nice players both casual and competitive also my local card shop has our own kaiba theres a dude who kaiba cosplays and we just call him kaiba
Reason #1 @1:05 honestly blew my mind. Been playing yugioh off and on since my elder brother introduced it to me back when I was younger... Honestly, didn't know online yugioh was a thing, I've only known yugioh face to face lol. It's 1000% more fun with friends all playing together.
Im usually a shut in kind of player I only had 1 real friend but going to my locals for the first time I noticed how much I was missing out there are allot of nice people I was kind of shy at first I didn’t what to go up and challenge anyone because of my fear of losing but eventually I mustered up all my courage an challenged someone my age it was super fun I was 12 back then sadly I think the shop shut down
al I know of where I live is a toy store where they play card games for afew hours on tuesday, so I wil just try out that before I go to any tournoment (+I need to build a deck first aswel~ lol) btw just as a quick question as someone who is trying to get into yugioh, is there any site where I can try out decks online to se what I like? just so I do not have to buy a bunch of diferent decks and test them all induvidualy~
YGOPRO (you do have to download it) is the best place to test etc. especially if you are just starting out, no need to rush out and buy the physical cards right away. All the cards are free to use on there. Other than that my only advice is to net deck net deck net deck. Basically just copying a deck from somewhere online, i.e. google search: Salamangreat Deck 2019 etc. Just keep testing different archetypes (Collections of cards that form up a strategy generally unified under a certain name, Salmangreat, Thunderdragon, Orcust etc.) until you find something that suits your own style :)
Team APS! Can you please make a video on how to make an extra deck? There are videos all over UA-cam on how to side deck. But not how to build an extra deck.

@@aaronashcaster5875 I didn't know that you already did go. Try the others now since school is out now unless you're in summer session
I used your code to get a custom playmat. Just waiting on it to come in.
i liked the days where almost every match was like a grind game... this break-my-board yugioh will never be as fun as the good 'ol days
there are decks that force the opponent to play the grindy game. If you prefer this playstil play such a deck instead. For example you may like burning abyss.
i don't go cause i don't have a good enough deck for it (mostly structure decks or other themed decks like yugi's decks)
I don't compete in tournaments and here's why:
I find them boring.
I am I kid what should I do I play casual and don't have a deck set on any card so what do u recommend I do not have cards to tribute summon most of my cards
i wish i could go to a tournament but the only place in lawrence kansas is a game nut locals😑
I would. If there were any nearby, that is. Aaaand if I could buy cards there, instead of having to get imported, even more expensive ones.
Hi Paul
I wish I can play in a tournament let alone "locals" they aren't anyin the city I am. Also I doubt their is any tournament since I live in the hood/ghetto and ever out of town locals Idk if alot of people even go to card shops and play. Plus having a full time job and not being rich with money for cards as well.
I dont even play Yugioh anymore, but your videos are very entertaining. I hope your channel will have more subscribers!
It is the best feeling when you can go to locals and win at least 1 duel with a nobody deck like Cloudians or Aquaactresses. (I like using decks no-one else uses)
I want to attend a local tournament so bad but since covid is here its impossible!!!
I love going to my locals even when I dont top I tend to have fun we have a bunch of good nice players both casual and competitive also my local card shop has our own kaiba theres a dude who kaiba cosplays and we just call him kaiba
3:29 - 3:35 thanks for saying this
2:53 a true man of culture
Reason #1 @1:05 honestly blew my mind. Been playing yugioh off and on since my elder brother introduced it to me back when I was younger... Honestly, didn't know online yugioh was a thing, I've only known yugioh face to face lol. It's 1000% more fun with friends all playing together.
i don't feel the same with yugioh with link summoning taken the fun out of it speed duels have made me love yugioh again
My best friend has been helping me get into Yugioh. I wonder if he’s gone to a tournament before. I’d love to go to one with him!
awesome video. nothing like a tournament
I havent played in a tourney in probably 5 years and I'm just recently coming back to the game while beefing up my Neo Spacian Deck 😂 wish me luck lol
lets all go play tournaments and get our game on!
Good vid and love your vids
I plan on going to my first locals in less than a week from now!
I wish I could but I live in Miami.
They have one by fIU. Pro -play games
I live in miami too i just found out there's one over by fiu we should go bro
@@stgtakeover9489 I would but i can't get there, I walk everywhere.
I picked up a new deck and will be competing again soon
I'm gonna be playing in my first non sanctioned tourney on Sunday for yu-gi-oh
I don’t play yu gi oh but this is a cool video that applies to a lot of physical games. Keep up the good work :)
Im usually a shut in kind of player I only had 1 real friend but going to my locals for the first time I noticed how much I was missing out there are allot of nice people I was kind of shy at first I didn’t what to go up and challenge anyone because of my fear of losing but eventually I mustered up all my courage an challenged someone my age it was super fun I was 12 back then sadly I think the shop shut down
al I know of where I live is a toy store where they play card games for afew hours on tuesday, so I wil just try out that before I go to any tournoment (+I need to build a deck first aswel~ lol)
btw just as a quick question as someone who is trying to get into yugioh, is there any site where I can try out decks online to se what I like?
just so I do not have to buy a bunch of diferent decks and test them all induvidualy~
Dueling book is also good. Everyone on there is really helpful to new players
Dueling nexus, it's online and free but the UI is kinda ugly
@@hahahaani Not the worst thing tbh
ok I wil test those out, ty~ :)
Team APS! Can you please make a video on how to make an extra deck? There are videos all over UA-cam on how to side deck. But not how to build an extra deck.
I'm only 16 and no place for me to play nearby :(
I'm 16 and we just asked our school to do a tournament 😂
Going outside? In the sun??? Absolute madness!
