#YuGiOh #Classic #2002
Even though the decks are simple by mechanics, it is still way more enjoyable to see this stage of Yu-Gi-Oh than the current.
Blows my mind how everything is now. I miss the old days badly.
This 100% I downloaded the YuGiOh Master Duel app and I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing as this is the Yugi I know 😐😂
@@1990themule I did too. And I was waiting on a guy for about 15min to finally end his turn. One guy beat me while I was on my MP and BP.
Hard agree, now it's just a race to see who can do their "one turn kill" combo first.
Me: Dark Magician Attack!
My opponent: I use this cards special ability to search my deck for this specific spell card and activate it. It banishes 2 of my monsters to fusion summon this other card. It uses its ability to equip a card to attack twice. Because the cards in my graveyards effect, I can draw two cards. I special summon this one card to syncro summon this other card which will.....
4 hours later:
And that's why I can now use quantum physics to make your dark magician explode and you take 59573000 damage.
"I draw! I end my turn." "I draw! I end my turn." Finally, some REAL Yugioh!
Naw, I'm kidding, these were actually some pretty close matches. Especially that last one, right down to the final attack. Looking forward to seeing the other decks!
real yugioh is summoning a full board of strong monsters, not stalling for fucking 30+ turns just cause you can't draw a pathetic vanilla garbage monster to hide behind for even more turns
@@EBlade3529 you ain't lying
@@EBlade3529 Can we have something in between? Because modern Yu-Gi-Oh still takes this long, just with less turns.
Well not really that but like ore no taan Doro. Battle ox shokan. Kaado ichi mai setto. Taan endo.

I still remember actually getting these decks for the first time as a kid. I think I was in the 2nd grade, and I got Starter Deck Kaiba (my sister got Yugi) after LOADS of begging our parents! And so began my life as a Yu-Gi-Oh player...

I can still smell that KB toys carpet and if i close my eyes I can reach out and grab a starter deck from the cardboard shelf display!
Thus began your life as a duelist
My grandma bought me both of them because she forget which one I asked for when I went to the store. grandmas are the best. I remember I had so many friends mad when I would summon both DM and BWD.
Still hate how Starter Deck Kaiba only contains a single Blue-Eyes, when it should be 3. But then, players would see that Kaibas deck is much better as Yugis and he only wins cause of random ass-pulls and they cant touch the main char of course. F*ck Plot Armor
Soul exchange cannot conduct battle phase
You can tell how balanced these starter decks were. Really made for each other.
@djolo5140 you can still play like the old days with your friends, it's just not meta
except, you can't because nowadays you have to go to university and read a book to understand one card of your deck and you usually have 40+@@k1ngkaos252

It's hilarious that he managed to not only draw but play Blue-Eyes in every game. Truly the Kaiba of Team APS.

Eu só me pergunto,o que a troca de almas estava fazendo no deck cujo monstro às era do protagonista, quando sabemos que essa é uma carta do antagonista?🤔🤔🤔
Poisé,a Konami humilha o olhos azuis.
This whole opening took me back to '02! Who here wishes we could play Yugioh like this again?
You had a misplay when you activated soul exchange for dark magician. Once you activate the spell card, you have to skip your battle phase
Had all 4 of these decks! Still have most of the cards for each too! Fun fact also, if you had opened that pack and the Blue Eyes was 1st edition, you would’ve had a $700 Blue Eyes in your hands. I unfortunately do not have the 1st edition Blue Eyes either, so looks like we both have a $48 card.
I know I do. Hell it doesn't even have to be this far back. I could live with playing on the level of the early synchro or xyz era. At least the power levels back then felt more reasonable and there were less handtraps.
I miss this yugioh so much🥺
soul exhange does target play master duel if u dont believe me
A duel where literally every card in play is an old friend is so dang lovely.
Looking forward to the rest of this series!
This is hands down my favourite vid from you guys, this is literally my entire childhood, I remember making and delivering lemonade to my neighbours until I got $20 to buy SDJ and SDY, never to this day owned an SDK blue eyes
Yep I had four of them got them at twenty dollars each
No sdk blue eyes? :( I have 3, but none are 1st ed. They shouldn't be too hard to get online
@@nicholasfleischhauer191 never liked blue eyes personally always preffered red eyes, my absolute favourite was the Winged dragon of Ra, and I have 3x 1st edition ghost rares of him, my favourite playing card in circulation full stop
Ive always found this style of playing to be more exciting than the whole combo system the new system is a whole lot of waiting but the old ways are much more fast paced and exciting
I wouldn't say this era was fast paced, but it was more interactive and back and forth.
It was a better way to play but Kunami had to change it up.
@sheeplehunter505 Change your profile pic thats offensive.
@@benjaminposacki7060 I don't think they're gonna listen to you just because you say it's 'offensive'
It's just incredible how these old-fashioned duels are super fun. It seems like one doesn't need a card with a name of "evenly matched" to have an even match after all!
Yeah even in the very first tcg format games were still fast with back and forth. Whenever I play this format with friends monsters never stay on the field for more than a turn lol. You've got soul exchange, dark hole, raigeki, fissure, trap hole, wall of illusion, man eater bug and change of heart which can all turn the game around
@@chrismiller3548 played some yugi-kaiba format with friends too (if that's what you're referring to), really fun
There are so many turns where you just cannot do anything. Its surprisingly entertaining to watch you both flail with style at each other. That final round comeback from 100 LP had me on the edge of my seat.
Right? I love those moments when both players are trying to top-deck!
This is the Yu-Gi-Oh that Gen Z hates... Pfft
@@traincore1955 because it's boring, just stall for turn which ain't fun at all
@@EBlade3529 Ah yes, you prefer the method of: both players throw their deck on the battlefield and the winner with the biggest pile wins. So much fun...
That's what made yugioh so fun back was the back and forth play and the turns of having to stall till u drew something. Yea it is fun to blow ur load turn 1 but a good grind duel is always so much better
The camera set-up and editing in these live duels you guys do has gotten really good. Really easy to follow and super fun to watch. Great job guys.
i agree
hey.. don't i know you from somewhere? 🤔
agree, im a new player and i actually learned a lot from this guys
Now this is just pure nostalgia and awesome right here ladies and gentleman. 10 dollar starter decks you could get a Walmart was everyone's jam back in the day. I miss those days. blast from the past indeed. such a simpler and easy game back then.
Well they a lot more than 10 there like 100

This match was so fun to watch. Makes me wish I could go back to 2002-2003 and buy these starter decks when I had the chance.
Gotta admit this was like watching the anime, it had me at the edge of my seat lol! Seeing this reminds me of all the countless duels. I had growing up with my friends. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
This was sooo much more interesting to watch than today's meta for me! Way more back and forth and edge-of-your-seat moments. This is why I'm gravitating more to speed duels these days.
Same. This was one of the main reasons I got into speed duels and did so starting with the GX Duel Academy box set.
Yeah I have been looking for speed duels but there havent been any stores with them
In hindsight the dark magician starter was better. Everyone wanted the blue eyes back then though. 🤣
Then i must have been terrible because i could never beat my cousins kaiba deck with my yugi deck. Those were the days
Not me. I was Red-Eyes all the way.
Yeah yugi got all the meta removal for the time.
Only because Yugi starter deck had Summoned Skull
@@chrisshorten4406 I took all the high def and tribute and trap cards and made a deck lol
Remember when Lajin, Man Eater Bug, Trap Master, 4star lady bug were actually feared for being powerful and normal monsters were the main stars and effect monsters were game changers? Those were the days.
Sound like old man.
@@Newworld-gk6us many yugioh players still love old school, there is nothing wrong with this...
Remember when a 2000 defense monster could brick your opponent for a few turns? Lol I love how simple things were an not many monsters had effects and the ones that did weren't insanely overpowered like the crap we have these days, this video is the definition of dueling
@@Newworld-gk6usYou sound like a try hard edgelord.
Build a cube and make it so with like minded players.
Man these decks are a throwback--my high school buddy bought both back in '02 and basically forced me to learn to play it with him (I was still into Pokemon hard) and the rest is history! Actually started re-watching the anime a couple days ago!
Googling ultimate offering, I think it can only be used by the owner, either on their main phase or opponents battle phase. 7:51 Yugi just acted like the trap was his and used it on the owners battle phase which isn’t how the card even works 😂
Playing with these old cards back then was fun also because we always had our own interpretations of how the card effects actually worked even if they weren’t correct/legal.
yea.. im pretty sure ¨you¨ means owner of the card, usually older cards said you or your opponent´´ to specify
The original printing said:
"At the cost of 500 Life Points per monster, a player is allowed an extra Normal Summon or Set."
The rulings on it were all over the place, but it was interpreted back then that either player could use the effect of Ultimate Offering.
Man, I miss this non-competitive Yugioh. Kitchen table play was inconsistent, slow, and swingy as hell but that's what made it great.
When they showed off the decks, my nostalgia was not of the decks, but when the spell cards were called magic cards. That nostalgia hit me hard.
Who’s the character in your profile picture?
@@lamp6909 Elesis from the korean game Elsword
I remember going to Kmart the summer of 2002 and begging my parents for both Yugi and kaiba starter decks. I also remember going that winter to Toys r Us and getting Joey and Pegasus. Getting old is weird.
The amount of original 2002-2006 yu gi oh cards i bought man i be one wish ass millionaire right now.
Especially when you consider the absurd prices all 4 of those starter decks go for these days on ebay
This is so incredibly satisfying. I haven't played for so many years, seeing this classic match up was awesome. I'm sorry you had to crack open those decks but I think it was worth it!
11:26 When your opponent played Ancient Telescope you reversed the order of your own cards when you drew them one at a time onto the table, and then your opponent put them back in the exact same reversed order. This could have been a large enough impact on the duel to change the outcome. I think a rematch of 2 out of 3 is warranted on this mistake alone.
Also because these were great to watch and I'd love to see the rematch. 😆
Also think Ultimate Offering was used wrong. Most cards don't have effects both players can utilize beyond field spells. The text of Ultimate Offering states "You can pay 500 life points." You being the owner of the card as it doesn't state either player may use this effect.
@@davidkeller7031 That is only with the current errata. They were playing straight OG card effects, I think.
Oh yea you are right
@@Will_Forge no he's still right. it says during your main phase or the "opponent's" battle phase, he can use it. the other player shouldn't be able to.
@@Will_Forge either errata wouldn't allow the opponent to do that
Wow... I didn't realize Kaiba essentially has a trap that allows him to "screw the rules" for 500 life points per summon
Jaja lol good one
yeah the fun thing about oldschool Yugioh is that 95% of cards were total garbage but the remaining 5% are hilariously broken plot armor cards from the anime which have only become more broken in today's game and are all banned
That card is super strong as back then their just wasn't that many ways to special summon a monster.
I believe one mistake was made, however, with a summon during a player’s battle phase instead of their main phase or their opponent’s battle phase.
This feels so chill compared to today's game. I feel like everything just keeps getting more OP and with each generation and it's getting to the point where the games unplayable. Seriously so many new players are going to get discouraged with how BS some of the cards and decks are now.
Do you know magical scientist? Either you have like 2 generations of Yugioh or the state of today. Today is much better compared to either have no game at all (what would have happen if this cards were the only ones since the years) or the really op cards in the early games.
Yeah, I swapped to MTG shortly after XYZ's came into the game, I can't imagine trying to learn the current state of yugioh, its gotten nutty.
so you're saying pot of greed, delinquent duo, cyber jar, imperial order, that grass looks greener, return from the different dimension, and graceful charity (OG yugioh cards mind you) are balanced? your comment is a joke
I always never understood why people make that argument. Of course it makes sense that cars become op over time if you're looking at like some of the most powerful Staples now versus the most powerful Staples then there's definitely going to be a huge deviation. Or even just Dex in general. If you look at it from set to set because it's a slow power creep but if you compare it now until then of course it's going to be a huge difference because they want a car to be better okay they give it more powerful effect and then the next time they release a card similar to it it's more powerful because they want to make you buy the new stuff of course power creep is going to become a thing
@@lethalButters bro in the original Bandai OCG duel monsters (not yugioh) you can literally summon Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, and Blue-Eyes without tributing. That's where the anime got its rules. Also if you destroyed a monster with you monster but it's DEF was lower than the destroyed monster's attack, your monster dies too. Also, dragon capture jar was a monster card at one point.
I'd love to see ALL combinations of these 4 decks against eachother
Like the 4-way battle Royale from Battle City
Me too
You're having so much fun . It's almost like an actual YGO episode. Keep it up
Pwoah, I remember all of these cards so well! Still have the OG Yugi and Kaiba starter deck cards somewhere in a box
I feel like I'm aging myself for nearly remembering by heart what soul exchange does.. but @25:10 you can't attack with Dark Magician as Soul Exchange makes you skip your battle phase for the turn.
See I was thinkin that too! Like you tribute they stuff but you don't get to use it till the next turn. Old Yugioh was really balanced and about taking your time to think ahead. Not as 'oh you stepped into my trap so I fusion using Super Poly on your turn and use your whole field! Now you can't respond and I'll be able to attack you for game." as the TCG now.

Real ones know you merged the best of the decks together back in the day
The yugi deck was my very first set of cards! I came back to playing after 10 years and built a new DM based deck and the pace is so insanely fast compared to how it used to be. Thanks for a trip down nostalgia lane! haha.

11:38 actually those cards were not returned in the right order since they were dealt from top to bottom Beaver Warrior should be the top card again but by putting them on top of the deck it will actually be castle walls.
I noticed that too. The first was the 5th by the way it stacked up lol.
Yea good point, failed battle
Ah, I should have scrolled further into the comments before saying the same.
I thought the same immediately lol
That is the kind of duels I really miss. I know those sealed starter decks are crazy expensive but this was a great trip down memory lane

Thank you for this awesome, authentic content!!
Thank you for including the cards on screen when you play them but this was fun to watch, hope to see more!
I just wanna make a note that when you used soul exchange you wouldn’t have been able to use dark magician to attack his Lord of D. it ends your battle phase. Making the duel have a slightly different outcome.
He failed to destroy Lord of D the turn after with Maneater Bug' effect.
Didn’t lord of d protect blue eyes from the soul exchange anyway?
@@BondingleStudios honestly, that’s how I used to play back in the day too. Not sure why they thought that it doesn’t “target” the specific monster so you’re allowed to destroy blue eyes.
@@mikes_tcg_collectibles4836 technically, it's true. I've seen a video about how confusing "targeting" is in yugioh, and they specifically said how, officially, soul exchange doesn't target... I don't know why, but they're following the rules there
If you think that's bad, ultimate offering only works for the player who plays it... not both.
My favorite part, Paul activates and announces he's playing Ookazi, and he has to stop himself from saying "SpellCard," and say "Magic Card." Great show guys, can't wait to see the next duel(s.)
That Just Desserts activation is a total anime moment such nostalgia love your duel videos keep it up
This was awesome to see. Both summoned their strongest monster in the first duel. Brings me to the countless battles me and my friends would have during sleepovers! Ahhh nostalgia. 😭😭😭
the good old classic version the current versions today are just terrible ( in my opinion )
I remember when those came out, we were hyped. My dad picked Yugi, my sister Kaiba, I picked Pegasus. Oddly enough, mine was not as bad as you'd expect. The toons were good, so long as nobody had Dispell to destroy Toon World, but Relinquished was a beast. Take that Blue Eyes, or Dark Magician and they were fucked. Unless they of course happened to have Dark Hole.
Edit: And lightly modifying the starter decks immediately ruined the Toons lol.
that was a pretty sweet duel. it's really great when it gets so close like that and it seemed like you guys had a fun time
I literally have not played Yugioh since these decks. So much nostalgia. I'm sad to see that the game has gotten so out of hand over the years, but at least there's the good memories.
I have not played Yugioh in years but I still love watching y'all play it. Is that really how Ultimate Offering works? You can use it to normal summon on your enemy's turn? I never knew that.
No. The card specifically says "you". Perhaps it's... anime rules? But then they'd be able to normal summon more than once so idk. I think they both had a brain fart.
Edit: lol idk what's going on, dude just tribute summoned during battle phase
You can see that every friendship is really put to the test during a duel!! That’s the heart of the cards!!
16:50 That was the best possible use of Doma ever although you did miss 300 damage :P
25:12 Soul Exchange makes it so that you can't go to the battle phase that turn
Lots of fun looking forward to the other matches
was just gonna mention that, glad not the only one that noticed
Soul Exchange also targets.
That soul Exchange was a real criminal
24:58 Soul Exchange does target, but that might be hard to realize with the original errata
Also doesnt soul exchange prevent you attacking also the turn you use it.
Dude... Even just the boxes hit me like a freight train, god I miss this era of life so much. Staying up late, going through the 3 packs and like a 5 episode YuGiOh DVD I got at walmart, showing off my cool foil Call of the Haunted that has almost certainly been treated worse then I've treated myself over these years. Good times
Trying to show my daughter how cool yugioh used to be and all the videos I found were horrible. This video not only took me wayyyyy back but was so in detail and informative. Greatly edited and we were glued to the tv. Very intense battle and I couldn’t stop mentioning how amazing this video was.

I'm pretty sure Ultimate offering only works for the player controlling it. Or have I missed something?
I thought the same but then after doing some research, i found out that at that time both players were able to use it, just as Royal oppression for some reason.
@@marvinmusk543 ultimate offering: During your Main Phase or your opponent's Battle Phase: You can pay 500 Life Points; immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon/Set 1 monster. nothing about your opponement can use it. royal oppression : Either player can pay 800 Life Points to negate the Special Summon of a monster(s), and/or an effect that Special Summons a monster(s), and destroy those cards. either player so your opponement can. edit my bad, the starter deck had an errata on this card so with this text, both of player can use it your right
The SDK one actually states: A player (i.e. any player kinda) is allowed an extra summon at the cost of 500 LP. So I guess interpretation is key, especially in that era!
However, I can't find any version of the Soul Exchange card that allows the user to conduct their battle phase...
So what we have established is there was definitely some typical Yugi shinnanigans going on, we just aren't sure how much
The nostalgia nearly brought tears to my eyes. Oh to be 10 years old again opening my Yu-Gi-Oh starter decks and bringing them to school to play at recess. Great video guys, I no longer play the game but your videos are always entertaining and you all have great charisma on camera.

Man it’s deeper than just the cards. Seeing those decks makes me miss my old house, my old province, and my mum. She’d hide Yugioh card packs in the house for me to find sometimes.
This is a THOUSAND times more fun than the modern day bs where you watch your opponent throw their entire deck into the graveyard, take it back out again, magically destroy all your monsters and spell/trap cards while they're at it and somehow end up with enough monsters to insta-deplete all your lifepoints, if you even make it that far watching without going out to buy some antidepressants.

You did an illegal move with Ultimate Offering at 13 minutes and 54 seconds. You can only activate Ultimate Offering during your OPPONENTS Battle Phase or during YOUR main phase 1. Since it was YOUR battle phase, you cannot use Ultimate Offering. That's the official rules on Ultimate Offering. Otherwise, great match!

They were so cheap back then!
This is so nostalgic . Giggled the whole time. Crazy how far this game has come. Sometimes I miss the simplicity but am having fun with tenyi sword soul.
Thank you guys so much for doing these videos and verbally explaining the cards effects, etc. This is helping me learn the game better than anything else out there. Much love fellas.
Ultimate Offering can’t be used like this. Even with its original text. You could only use the first version of it on your turn since it allows an EXTRA normal summon or set and you can’t normal summon on your opponent’s turn. The current text is both a nerf and a buff.
I do remenber getting these 4 packs aswell as a kid back in 2002, me and my brother. I still have then, actually. That was the first time when my Yu-Gi-Oh! life has begun. Good old memories.
Honestly miss duels like theses with my friends
The long games but more due to weaker cards
It’s really refreshing to have such simple duels with not having to squint my eyes trying to read an effect that I’m probably not gonna understand

24:50 Soul exchange prevents the battle phase the turn it is used. Dark magician should not have been able to swing over Lord of D.
Also it does say target so he could have not targed blue-eyea
Also Paul could have used two pronged attack in response to stop it
Two prong attack targets too and lord of d wont let it go he protects all dragon
The Seto starter deck was the first Yugioh cards that I ever got. I still have my original Blue Eyes (not in great condition, mind you, but still).
SDK was my first Yugioh deck, too. Always loved the Blue-Eyes more than Dark Magician, but my favorite was always the Pegasus Starter Deck; Relinquished is one of my favorite cards of all time, design wise, and it was pretty strong back in the day.
I played a Relinquished/Crab Turtle ritual deck back in the earliest days. Its funny how similar the 2 monsters look too -thats kinda why i chose to play it. And the 2550 Crab Turtle could take out the DM, Summoned Skull, Red-Eyes, and many other boss monsters. throw in some Nimble momongas, Bad reaction to simochi, Dian ketos, and things... I was a mad lad.
back when yugioh was a fun game
Yup, had Yugi’s around 2002 or 2003 and thought it was the coolest thing ever to basically have his Duelist Kingdom deck. I remember thinking Kaiba’s should have 3 blue eyes white dragons, but it only had one. I also remember some of Joey’s had the Red eyes as the card in the window and some had the time wizard. If I knew how rare and expensive each one would eventually get, I’d have bought several and held onto them!
I know that it is a freiendly duel, but I believe that Ultimate Offering was used incorrectly. Only the person that controls it can utilize its effect and not the opponent. Would have likely changed the outcome of the first duel.
if they playing with an original star deck kiba one it says At the cost of 500 Life Points per monster, a player is allowed an extra Normal Summon or Set this was obviously errata but they prolly just playing with what that version says so in a way not really a misplay in this format only also fun fact UO has been Errata 4 times good lord
Yeah that’s why it was important to play the gba video games back then like world wide edition and eternal duelist souls because it showed you have to play the cards the right way. The writing on the cards are confusing and misleading
Yugi’s starter deck is interesting, so I wanna see it against Pegasus’s, for a bit of nostalgia action.
I once played ookazi + spell re-clamation and won against top tier decks and dullest in locals until they ruled it bc spamming it over and over and having the spell card keep coming back to my hand was to op.. so they limited it to once use after reclaiming.
Agreed with other comments.. the new cards have completely killed the game with all the meta-shit summoning and one turn kills.. First and Second editions were all the fun
Hey just to let u guys know but u was using ultimate offering wrong only the controller of the card can use it during their turn or during their opponents battle phase the opponent can't use ultimate offering
This was more exciting than trying to watch any duel nowadays
Man I wish I held onto these from when I was a kid, cant believe how much these shot up in price!
Guys during yours 3 duels
You use soul exchange on blue eyes white dragon
But lord of d is on a field
An soul exchange target
Also you cannot made your battle phase!
You have to rematch for this one 👍👍👍
The just dessert at the end is horrible!!
Plus you waited the very last moment for actived that
Very cruel!
Thanks for the nostalgia 👌👌👌👌👌

I would prefer this over the current game always and any day. I gave the new game a try recently and it’s absolutely miserable to play. Games last for about 2 minutes (counting the actual game and not the 4-6 minutes it takes your opponent to play their 40 cards combo) , everything feels like a coinflip and some cards might as well have the text „When you play this, win the game.“ Also face down defense position is just not a mechanic anymore I guess. It used to be an important decision if you want to attack because they might have a big defense monster that makes you take a lot of damage. Gone with it are the iconic flip and bounce effects.
But the biggest insult of all is trap cards being basically unplayable unless they can be played from the hand. Might as well make them monster cards or quick play spells at that point. What a disgrace, such a shame this game used to be so much fun back in the day.
Hello. Im new here and I really love YugiOh.
After watching your video. I want to say that for me the old generation of YugiOh is the best YugiOh cards and series.
Newer YugiOh nowadays is having a lot of reading and memorizing. The combos are literally time consuming. It's like while your opponent doing His combo you can eat, sleep, etc and still not done. 😑
As a beginner, this video really helped me. It's the first time I understood the whole match.
Thanks for saying your moves, turn and slowly playing
