Absolute genius Eric. Yesterday won my matchplay grand final 7 and 5 with your (this) advice. Played off 12 hcp overall score effectively 7 hcp after completing the round. I tried this technique for 2 weeks 4 rounds. I shanked the irons for 5 years and could only hit hybrids and woods. Best handicap was 12 with hybrids no irons. The iron shanks were depressing. Im am now hitting irons better that the hybrids. I am drawing the ball on all shots including the driver. I spent approximately $3 grand on resolving the over top iron swing over the years. I cannot thank you enough.
I find when I accent the "crunch" is easier to get my trai leg to turn into the position that Steve Sieracki talk about in your newer video on the movement of the trail leg. More and more I find that watching different/similar Cogorno videos accelerates the dots getting connected for me. Thanks so much.
This is the most important move in golf, my friend. Right side bend, WITH rotation. You can’t have one without the other. Right side bend, without rotation, will cause you to bottom out behind the ball, and also get the club stuck behind you. Too much in to out swing. Rotation, without the side bend(level shoulders at impact), will cause you to come over the top, and release the club too soon. Great video!
I am new to golf and I can’t wait to try the drill and method at the driving range tomorrow. I feel like my instructor could not explain this to me as clear as you did! Good job coach!
In my opinion - this is the most important move in golf! By keeping the right wrist and arm bent- rotation is easy--no more early extension- cast is over! You have a unbelievable way to explain the golf swing! Can’t thank you enough! 🥃🥃🥃🥃👍

I just turn my right shoulder through the ball; my hips clear out without thinking, and my arms whip out and create lag without me trying to manufacture it. Great lesson Eric.

Also the sensation of my right elbow coming in front of my body or on the side of my body helps me a lot.
Very good. I've been working really hard to take the fat shot out of my game but in the process was hitting quite a few shots on the bottom grooves. This really helps to hit down on the ball with the divot after the ball and has the added benefit of allowing me to feel the right side in the swing... i'd been trying to ignore it because it was too dominant, but in reality, I just feel more comfortable thinking right shoulder down and through

Great video (as always) and just the info I was looking for. Just wanted to mention double White glove guy and the guy right behind you in the background were hilarious! Almost put me off what you were saying.
Same here. Whew... just not pleasant to look at, but entertaining nonetheless. To have such a killer coach right there, yet still have such a raggedy looking golf swing just ain't right. Really good information here. Just what im working on. I know a lot of people would understand this, but I reach points in my swing evolution when I can feel a significant leap of improvement is very near and I can tell that once I dial this in fully, good things will happen.
Looking forward to trying this move. I think this may be the piece that I have been missing. I keep coming up to early and can't stay down, partly because of lack of flexibility. Perhaps the shoulder forward will help
Could right shoulder going more out and not under be a cause of shanks and heel shots? Also should you have this motion, move shoulder down (to a lesser degree) for pitch shots also
Thank you for this video. When I work on this at time I plug the club into the ground behind the ball. I suspect I am straightening the right are too soon. Any advice on how to think of keeping the right arm bent longer.
Yeah...turn chest more, keep right arm more bent and right wrist more bent. If that doesn't work I would need to see a video of your swing to say for sure what YOU are doing so I can give you specific advice If you dont get it sorted join www.cogornogolf.com so you can send me your swing and I can help
Just learned this in a recent lesson and it's very effective. In my case it took the left side of the course out of play because I couldn't spin out over the top. It may take some time adjusting to low point if your typically throw your hands like I did (and sometimes still do).
Good info. In the lesson you talk about explain that the shoulder goes Down (toward the ground) and Forward (toward the target) and Around. No problem. My big question is: Does the shoulder move out towards the target line?? Slow motion videos I have watch seem to show the right shoulder stays behind the address position relative to the target line until impact or very nearly impact. Is this true? Seems like almost all the body parts except the hands and arms stay behind an imaginary line established at address that is parallel to the target line from delivery through impact. Right Knee, hip and shoulder never get closer to the target line than at address, and the Left knee, hip and shoulder move slightly through this line on the backswing and move away from the target line through the entire forward swing. Very wordy but I hope you understand. Might make a good lesson!
Thanks Eric, great video. Another thing that would be helpful, since you always suggest watching yourself on video, would be to show some analysis of actual swings, one where a player is not getting their right shoulder where it needs to be and another where they are
With rotation and open shoulders at impact how do you have square to line club head impact movement. Are the arms producing a compensating movement? My logic tells me that it's a glancing impact?
@@CogornoGolf Hi Eric-first out what a great coach you are. To your question-When your shoulders are open at impact (through rotation) and continue to open, will this result in an inward movement of the clubhead at impact (tracing the line of the shoulders as it were-arms being attached to the shoulders) unless there is some compensating move to have the clubhead moving down the ball target line (albeit for a fraction of a second) I guess in other words can you have open shoulders and a clubhead path straight at the target at impact
Oh-I gotcha! Thanks for the kind words. Yes-as the shoulders is moving UP and LEFT (BACK) the hand path will work UP AND LEFT as well.... As the hands are moving UP and BACK the clubhead is working DOWN AND OUT.....because of the wrist angles changing (Ulnar deviation and flexing trail wrist/extending lead) You will see this if you search slow motion down the line swings of any of your favorite player.
@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric-The 'compensating' move is then the natural consequence of ulnar deviation and the practised bowing of left wrist (aiding compression) This observation on my part has been bugging me for some time so thanks for clearing it up for me.
Nope... Pressure shifting in feet, left back back and around, stomach turning, then shoulders kick more in from about left arm parallel through impact.
Hey John! I would have to see a video of your swing to see WHY you are shanking to be able to show you how to fix. Join www.cogornogolf.com if you dont get it sorted so you can send me your videos and we can work together. This may help in the mean time:ua-cam.com/video/nC-dVMXehqQ/v-deo.html
Yes thats about the time most would be going from flexion to extension with the upper body You started flexed forward at address Gradually go from flexed forward to extension at top (mostly 1/2 way to top) Go back into flexion early downswing Back to extension near impact through follow through
Yes... Rotation and side bend are separate things... But maybe you are asking if you just rotate the ribcage and spine and stay bent over (right shoulder down) will right side bend automatically happen? The answer yes...if you do it correctly.
When I watch my swing on video I see my trail shoulder (I reference lead/trail since I'm a lefty) start moving out immediately in the down swing. I hit heel shots and shanks. I also noticed that my hips tend to rotate very level on back swing and downswing. I've been focusing on moving my lead knee toward the ball and tilting my hips on the back swing. I'm hitting the ball much better and longer.
A good way to drill this ... Right hand only golf swings. Grab a PW, grip down on it a bit to make it lighter... And make swings with it using only your right hand. You'll ONLY be able to make impact if you get your RIGHT shoulder working properly the way Eric discusses.
Yeah...more or less....will be some adjustments with ball being teed up and angle of attack ua-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/lnJ3S7eU0sw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/F2rzdLvXi7g/v-deo.html
When I try to over exaggerate this move of getting the right shoulder to the ball position before the club head I sometimes shank the shot...would this mean I’m standing too close?
Hey Nathan! I don't know...I would have to see a video of your swing doing this so I could see WHY its happening and how to fix. Likely there is something going on earlier that made your right shoulder get higher to fix.....now you're not doing it and it doesn't match you other motions. Check out www.cogornogolf.com so you can send in your swings and I can help!
There are some...but video is alway the best learning tool. See what you are doing compared to what you are supposed to. Exaggerate and go slow enough until you get the look. Rinse and repeat.
Hey Mike! Could be several things...I would have to see to say for sure Either swing direction too far right....or it was already too far right and doing this changed your release pattern (where the face and loft are at impact)
Some of the guys behind you could really benefit from watching your videos. Need to have a monitor at your range with your videos playing. New clients would sign up daily!

I dont think anyone should play golf without knowing this. I dont think I will watch another coach on youtube. You da best!!

This is the most important move in golf, my friend. Right side bend, WITH rotation. You can’t have one without the other. Right side bend, without rotation, will cause you to bottom out behind the ball, and also get the club stuck behind you. Too much in to out swing. It is a great one off guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my neighbour got excellent results with it.
This is glorious, I've been looking for "butch harmon golf swing philosophy" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy got excellent results with it.
Great video (as always) and just the info I was looking for. Just wanted to mention double White glove guy and the guy right behind you in the background were hilarious! Almost put me off what you were saying.
:)
Same here. Whew... just not pleasant to look at, but entertaining nonetheless.
Feeling the right shoulder coming thru has really helped my irons but seems awkward on the driver. Is there a feel for the driver and right shoulder?
Hey Steve!
Check these out see if this helps with differences: ua-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/v-deo.html
Sensei: thanks so much for posting this video. Only had 10 minutes to try this technique. Birdie on 1 and gimme on 18. Thx!!
Love it, John!
Excellent video. It seems like this move also helps your left hip to get pulled out of the way so you can stay “in the box”👍
Absolutely! Going to do a video on this today funny enough so you will see that in a week or so!
How do you sequence the right shoulder turn with the hip release where the left knee faces the target? Would be a good lesson
Good idea! What someone would need to FEEL depends on where they are coming from but for all intent and purposes I would think same time.
First class definition, thank you
Thanks Barry!
Love to see you do these with a driver! Great videos!
Thanks, Robert!
Looking forward to trying this move. I think this may be the piece that I have been missing. I keep coming up to early and can't stay down, partly because of lack of flexibility. Perhaps the shoulder forward will help
Hope it helps my friend!
That's a really good lesson.
Thanks, Roger!
Could right shoulder going more out and not under be a cause of shanks and heel shots?
Also should you have this motion, move shoulder down (to a lesser degree) for pitch shots also
Hey!
Yes and yes. Much less.
Thank you for this video. When I work on this at time I plug the club into the ground behind the ball. I suspect I am straightening the right are too soon. Any advice on how to think of keeping the right arm bent longer.
Yeah...turn chest more, keep right arm more bent and right wrist more bent.
If that doesn't work I would need to see a video of your swing to say for sure what YOU are doing so I can give you specific advice
If you dont get it sorted join www.cogornogolf.com so you can send me your swing and I can help
Just learned this in a recent lesson and it's very effective. In my case it took the left side of the course out of play because I couldn't spin out over the top. It may take some time adjusting to low point if your typically throw your hands like I did (and sometimes still do).
Hope it hopes moving forward! Heres another similar one

@@CogornoGolf Haha! Just watched it! It was great. Thanks Eric.
excellent vid. thank you
Thanks, Anton!
Hey!
Yes it will go SLIGHTLY forward of where it started just past impact in the follow through.
Great explanation Eric!
Thanks, Garry!
Thanks Eric, great video. Another thing that would be helpful, since you always suggest watching yourself on video, would be to show some analysis of actual swings, one where a player is not getting their right shoulder where it needs to be and another where they are
Thanks, Paul! Great idea!
Very clear explanation. Thanks.
MY pleasure!
With rotation and open shoulders at impact how do you have square to line club head impact movement. Are the arms producing a compensating movement? My logic tells me that it's a glancing impact?
Hey!
Not sure exactly what you mean here...can you explain "square to line club head impact movement" ?
As the hands are moving UP and BACK the clubhead is working DOWN AND OUT.....because of the wrist angles changing (Ulnar deviation and flexing trail wrist/extending lead)
You will see this if you search slow motion down the line swings of any of your favorite player.
@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric-The 'compensating' move is then the natural consequence of ulnar deviation and the practised bowing of left wrist (aiding compression) This observation on my part has been bugging me for some time so thanks for clearing it up for me.
Do you think that shoulder turn toward to the target, should be the first movement of downswing?
Nope...
Pressure shifting in feet, left back back and around, stomach turning, then shoulders kick more in from about left arm parallel through impact.
Awesome Eric..Going out in an hour!!!
Have fun!!
Best lesson ever! Thanks
Appreciate it!
Tried really hard at this over the years. Always shank. Help!
Thanks guys, another great video. Any / many differences between compressing iron shots and hitting up on driver? 👍
Absolutely!
Eric, imagine there's still some forward flex at impact with the right shoulder "past" the ball? Does extension happen shortly after impact?
Yes thats about the time most would be going from flexion to extension with the upper body
You started flexed forward at address
Gradually go from flexed forward to extension at top (mostly 1/2 way to top)
Go back into flexion early downswing
Back to extension near impact through follow through
OMG this is a million dollar tip. Thanks
:)
Is the right side bend more than just the rotation around your spine?
Glad you found a solution my friend!
Will this help the hips to turn better?
It could...this will for sure: ua-cam.com/video/ZdsdYwXa-M4/v-deo.html
A good way to drill this ... Right hand only golf swings. Grab a PW, grip down on it a bit to make it lighter... And make swings with it using only your right hand. You'll ONLY be able to make impact if you get your RIGHT shoulder working properly the way Eric discusses.
I like it!!
How does this work with longer irons, fairway woods, and the driver?
Hey Steve!
Here are the main differences between irons and driver:

WOW! Thank you so much for responding!! Wasn't expecting that! Love your content!
Jeans shorts is killing me!! 😂😂😂😂
those golfers in the background are 30 handicaps
i like feeling this on 30-70 yard pitches too
Yep!
Would this same technique apply to the driver?
Yeah...more or less....will be some adjustments with ball being teed up and angle of attack

Thanks! Your videos are super informative. Appreciate all of the content you share.
Great video. I noticed a big improvement
Excellent! Thanks, Ryan!
Is there any drill for this?
There are some...but video is alway the best learning tool. See what you are doing compared to what you are supposed to. Exaggerate and go slow enough until you get the look. Rinse and repeat.
Ok thanks.
Great stuff champ I'll be doing some of that thanks
Appreciate it!
This is a great way to shift your low point/sternum forward with your chest rotated open at impact, sweet compression from there!!
Absolutely!!

Thank You エリック
You are very welcome!
I think it's possible that this is the secret to the golf swing.
Then again, I've thought that about many tips..... But this time it's different!
Its a BIG part for sure!
I love the sound you added at 7:01 LMAO!
:)
“Production Value” 🥇
Doing this. Ball's going right (not slicing, a push). What's the cause? FIX?
Mike Perski too far under the plane with a square face if it’s not turning right on top of starting right
Hey Mike!
Could be several things...I would have to see to say for sure
Either swing direction too far right....or it was already too far right and doing this changed your release pattern (where the face and loft are at impact)
Can't stop watching Spalding in the background. SPALDING! get your foot off the boat!
jibboom2112 SPALDING!!! You’re playing golf today....and liking it!
Lmao! Been hitting bad shots for 30 years and still watching it fly in disbelief...
Want to keep it entertaining for you guys :)

thanks a lot 👍
My pleasure!
Wouldn't it be better to focus on the LEFT sholder than the right .
?
I don't think either is "better"...depends on the person and where they currently are.
Dude in the background must have gold plated tees. Dude absolutely refuses to lose one.
I think the guy behind you at 5:30 might need to watch some of your videos.
Your right shoulder moves exactly like a top tennis professional hitting a forehand.
I'll take it :)
Some of the guys behind you could really benefit from watching your videos. Need to have a monitor at your range with your videos playing. New clients would sign up daily!
Lance Hester - ain’t that the truth!
:)
I love the guy ear hustling and walking to get more balls lol
Will you please turn around and help Mr Jorts!?
He needs to grab the guy behind him. Very hard to concentrate, but the content is excellent.
Appreciate the feedback!
There is no right or left shoulder the work as a comparison the same time together
Thanks for the feedback!
I think only iron swing is the boundary of the drill. The action ruins driver swing.
Thanks for the feedback!
My husband says that my right shoulder goes too soon!
:) Hope this one helps!
Haha that guy isn the back in the grey could use some of your tips.
watching those 2 behind you "practice" makes me feel like a pro. lolol, excuse my snobbiness
