Words can't express my gratitude. Used to be an 8, but after kids and not playing for 10 years, I can't break 100 because i hit a low duck hook. I paid for lessons, and hit countless balls, but i was still missing something. It was this exact message of right wrist position. This video coupled with a few range sessions, and SHAZAM.....I'm back to old form. I'm still exaggerating the wrist placement on takeaway, but I've never been happier to fix this problem in my golf swing. I owe you a beer (actually way more than that).
I had to search and search to find this video (because I didn't hit like the first time). I have played for 6-7 years and have watched every video imaginable. Endless hours sometimes. People out on the course would say "Wow...nice swing", but I just couldn't get consistent contact/compression and after watching this video I realized I was doing everything right but my fault was coming from underneath and it was causing me to cast to compensate. Shot a 78 today with this change (I've never broken 80...and average around the high 80's low 90's). I only missed around 3 fairways. This was my "gotcha" moment video. Best round of golf I ever played to the point it almost seemed surreal. It all makes sense now as long as I remember to just stay lose the ball just flies of the clubface. I've never in my life struck the ball better and this video was the reason for it. What a great instructor you are Eric. Simple and to the point.nWe all know golf has it's up and downs but I have a feeling this tip/video will make the ups more prevalent. Thanks Eric.
I stumbled on to what exactly you are talking about. You are 100% spot on. This idea has dramatically changed my game for the better. I’m a right handed player. Because I grip the club with a slightly stronger right hand beyond neutral...when my hands are set at the top of my backswing, they do NOTHING on the downswing except hold the right hand hinged angle. I simply turn through my downswing. My right elbow naturally, and gradually unfolds... and yes my hands release the club, but well after the ball has been struck. I love that I can flight my short irons much lower, AND hold greens. My compression is SO much better. Great video!
This is what should be taught very early for anyone learning golf … you learn and practice this and 80% + of your golf swing is set for life! Eric, this is your best video ever. I have been watching hundreds of videos for many years and had many golf lessons… without much success , switching my swing to too many complicate tips. This is the Saint Graal of golf !!! Claude … from Montreal,QC.
This Video changed my Golf Game so much I have never struck the ball so well in my life! I was literally bending my wrist the wrong way I was bending it to wear it would massively leave the club face wide open and then I would flip at the ball. This video changed my swing for good!! It felt really weird at first but after trusting it OMG it's crazy! The divits I take now are so good I literally can't believe it's me hahha! U are the man Eric! Best Instructor in the World right here!!!
This might be the key to unlock the problem that has plagued me for years, early release and flipping my hands through impact. I took the information to my practice at the driving range yesterday and saw dramatic improvement in power and carry. Thanks. You have some of the best demonstrations and lessons on UA-cam.
This video, by itself, has altered my game in a positive way more than anyone I’ve viewed anywhere. I’ve shot 80 a couple times this year on a pretty tough course but actually broke 80 the day after watching this and applying it on the range beforehand. And it wasn’t so much that I broke 80 but it’s the way I struck the ball consistently which really had me and my playing mates impressed. Honestly if I was chipping better I would’ve shot in the low 70s. I’ve watched a lot of videos from very good teachers but yours are the clearest and understandable examples of golf swing mechanics that I’ve witnessed to date.
Great!! This was Joe Dante's Magic Move. He set the wrist immediately and maintained it. The first time I tried this, I was sure I was going to drive the ball directly into the ground. I was wrong. I had simply played my whole life with an open club face, then flipping to square it at impact. I played some decent golf if my timing was perfect, but I'd follow a scrambling 78 with a dispiriting 95. I'm 63 and have played golf for 50 years and have quit and picked the game back up several times. Eric's wrist angle videos have helped me play my best, and more importantly, consistent golf ever. I have played my home course at least 700 times in the last ten years. However, I have hit my longest, straightest and best shots on every single hole in the last 50 rounds AFTER incorporating these ideas. Instead of moving up to the gold (senior tees), I have moved back to the blue tees from the whites. I can't recommend these videos or the Cogorno Golf subscription site enough.
This is one of the best lesson i have ever seen. Clear. Clever. Generous. I have studied a lot about these points, and this lesson has clarified and enlightened me, harmonizing all my ideas, making my swing solid and consistent. Thank you, Eric.
I'm 20+ years into playing golf, and the more I learn, the more I realize that the absolute FIRST thing anyone should learn when it comes to playing golf is the finer mechanics of the approach/impact/release. Assuming you've played any sport where you "swing" something, you don't need help on that part. Players need to understand exactly how to generate the proper lag and speed and impact in the golf swing. Once you get that, you can just figure out how to do that faster/harder for yourself. If you don't figure that out first, nothing else will truly make you better. I learned some really great course management skills that helped my scoring, but I always fought my poor ball striking. Eric's videos on the release and impact have, literally in a matter of weeks, changed my approach to the swing and my ball striking for the better.
Reading all the comments down below it lets you know how much you are loved by those golfers and I am one of them, your honesty, your tuition, explanation is spot on - your jokes are crap, but hey - keep up the great work we all love you - golfing wise!
This really works, I am taking lessons and we worked on this yesterday. The other is the follow through. He had me make sure my arms kept the V all the way through my swing. Everything went straight. If I could consistently do this I would shoot in the 80s. That has yet to be proven as when I am at the range everything goes straight, on the course not so much. I just learned this move so the future looks bright.
In the process of hinging the trail wrist to the maximum and holding the flex, the elbow is held and tucked into the waist. ONE simple focus thought on the trail wrist and (for me) the rest with the correct rotation falls in to place. Great instructional video. Many thanks.
Eric ! The more I watch your episodes, the more I get impressed.. It is amazing how much you describe the details of every each moment of action in all aspects..! It is just Wow ! Two thumbs up ! Thanks a bunch !
I've been a 12-16 handicap for most of my life. I've had more lessons than probably one should take. But, today, i finally think all the lessons I've taken get the point across with your videos on the right wrist bent back because I didn't understand how the right hand worked in golf. I was always taught to keep the left wrist flat but i continued to have problems with loss of power because of casting. Thank you so much for theses videos. I can now practice drills called the P6 and understand the importance of the right hand staying bent and swinging to the left.
Eric, I have seriously been struggling with my golf game for the past 4-5 months. I was shooting mid-eighties but after a lesson (was try to add some yardage) the pro strengthened my grip i could never get comfortable with my hands/wrists at the top. Since that lesson I have been shooting mid to high 90s and extremely frustrated with the game. After watching this video I went to the range this morning - weakened my grip back to neutral and concentrated more on my right wrist bending back instead of fighting the awkward feeling strong grip left wrist cup and Voila! I haven't struck the golf ball that well in a very long time. Thank you very much for creating this video!!
One of the best and MOST IMPORTANT videos I've seen. It is amazing how one little change in the swing can make such a big difference in swing quality. Well done!!
Single handily the best golf video I’ve seen. I took a lesson last week and I was instructed to do this very thing. Yet I couldn’t find any videos on it to learn and implement it more.....until now. Thank you!!
Good stuff, thanks Scott! Appreciate it. I have other videos on this topic as well...here's another one you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/eseEJ90WEnw/v-deo.html
Realized at the range today that instead of focusing on flat left wrist, focus on flexing the right wrist accomplishes the same and is easier. Came home, searched for "right wrist in backswing" and this video came up. Thank you for confirming and explaining how it works!
I have no doubt at all he's great for a lot of people. I'm a real decent player and don't need to know the top 10 things people do and I shouldn't. With all due respect, and as a gentlemen of this game, no one instructor can be good for every level, all players at once, all the time. It doesn't work that way, so for my need it wasn't so good, but I promise he'll be great for many. Peace out.
Just found this video. Never had I seen such well described instruction on "how" to get club square at impact and still keeping right wrist bent with forward shaft lean!! Thanks Eric. Mike W
The last video on this helped to dispel any misconceptions on wrist hinge or just how to hit it straight in general and since then have been striking the ball a lot better! So anyone that was like me.. feel confident in this information and thank Eric for saving you loads of frustration later on. At first you may pull the ball but as this becomes second nature you'll straighten out. I even given this tip to struggling people on the course and their shots got better immediately. It's such a simple concept too and if more golf rookies learned this right away they'd skip that first 6 months of crappy striking lol.
Great video! Have watched MANY on this subject. Yours is the first I have seen that isolates the RIGHT wrist. This is much more impactful for me. Also, I really appreciate your comments on the TIMING of this move. I guess that trial and error will let me know which timing will be best for me, but I am glad to know that any of the three will work. Thanks. Joe W
This was interesting. It had a very positive side effect that I did not expect. I stopped hitting with the arms and it became all turn with a very soft, balanced and natural finish. And it happened all by itself. Thanks, hope is back.
FANTASTIC video! I used this drill this summer to work on delivery and contact. It’s scary how much it helped. Also, for those that think they can’t “release” doing this, you do it for a bit you start hitting further and further shots. You hit a little harder and harder. Soon, you can’t hold off if you try. The momentum will make your wrists release. I noticed that doing these 3/4 “hold off” shots were not much shorter than my full swing. Most likely due to the solid contact.
My last lesson with my club pro was about holding a firm left wrist through impact, but it was something I was struggling to do. I asked him if it would be easier to try to keep the right wrist broken for as long as possible and this was better. I think the missing piece of my puzzle was the tip in this video about trying to keep the right hand facing towards the ground. Suddenly my ball striking has become much cleaner. One of the earlier comments disagreed with holding onto wrist angles to impact, but I think that the point here is to get the right feel. Unless you are immensely strong the correct release will just happen through clubhead momentum. Trying to make the release happen at the right time will just open up a whole new box of problems for most of us. It's not an instant fix, I think it will take a bit of work to eradicate the old movements, but it's getting better round by round. Best of all, this move has improved my pitching which was very inconsistent. Now it's well flighted, bang on line and distance control is fantastic.
I’ve been working on this concept with my pro the last few weeks since winter school started. This is a great addition to what he’s been trying to drill into me. Love your teaching style.
Really great advice. I'm an overthinker when it comes to golf and this video/drill allows you to focus on one consistent thing if you work at it and advances the goal of a repeatable, consistent solid swing. Kudos, Eric.
Great video, thank you. My coach spent weeks trying to get me to bow my left wrist, focusing on a left wrist movement. I just couldn’t get it, and the left wrist just stayed cupped. Your idea of concentrating on the right wrist movement and the left will automatically get into the correct position is spot on. I can do it and it works. Don’t know why I could move one wrist correctly but not the other, the brain is a strange thing. Massive improvement in quality of balling striking.
I definitely agree with you. I was having a very similar problem. I am happy I found this video. Concentrating on the right wrist is much simpler for me as well. My golf coach worked with me on Friday regarding setting my wrist. I was cupping my left wrist and pull hooking the ball.
Just by watching and executing the elbow under the pointing down through impact, I hugely improved impact and consistent improved distance with less effort, best lesson I've ever applied
Hey Chuck! You can! Try it and see if it helps you Some people I see who set right away get the club too far inside under plane in the backswing which causes an opposite reaction of steep coming down
Due to your video i was watching Eric i have been able to see what i have been having trouble with my wrists even in my daily life i have trumor tension due to a car accident so i am so thankful for what you put into your videos
Hell yeah my golfing brother, this is the real Secret, to your best Golf, the hands and wrist, Along time ago, i worked on this, and i played great, thanks for reminding me, iv been looking at your videos for some time now, and now you nailed it,
Eric, thank you so much,I could never figure out why my ball contact is so bad , why I’m not compressing the ball, and why my ball flight is so high and why I’ve been losing distance, this is exactly why, great video my friend.
Great video Eric (again). I've been working on my bent right wrist for a while now and i find that my right elbow is kind a twisting inside and toward the ground. Makes me feel like i'am under throwing a baseball. Is it a good feeling? Should i avoid it what do you think? BTW i'am not bless with you're wrist flexibility. I can only bend mine about 30 degrees. Again thank you for you're time Eric. You are simply the best!
Really appreciate your support, Norm! Yes, that feeling could work! Whatever FEEL produces the correct movement pattern works :) I think you may enjoy these videos below as well for more details! ua-cam.com/video/i0Tdk9XYTqg/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/wDl5b_PULsU/v-deo.html
Spent a lot of money on lessons in the uk , basics (grip, stance, alignment) apart my biggest steps forward iv found on Cogorno Golf , love your patient explanation on this vid and others Eric, seems so simple , time to get to work 🏌🏻♂️👍🏻🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Great video. Always too much emphasis put on the left hand v ‘switch off the right hand’!?! I’m always struggled with flipping but am slowly getting there with this and the right arm under left drill. But I am struggling to ‘complete’ the swing. Everything feels a little sawn off at the finish. I’ve got pretty much full extension at parallel past the ball (post impact) but seem to be holding on to the face a little and curtailing the finish. Contacts great though. In your opinion, does this sound ok vs the traditional club over the shoulder at the end of the swing? It could be that I’m struggling to rotate the arms without flipping. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hey Sam! Of course for me to answer specific questions for you I need to see your swing on video....or else I'm making too many assumptions and guesses. Feel free to check out www.cogornogolf.com so you can send me your swings and I can help
I have a bad lower back, (very painful) , so I have adopted the Moe Norman single plain swing. Your instructions on the right wrist seem to be applicable to that swing plain. What do you think about this?
Hi Eric- Great job and always enjoy learning from your channel. Quick question that seems no one talks about regarding right wrist. My question is - Do you keep the pad of right hand palm against the thumb throughout the golf swing? I try to keep my hands loose, but noticed in a home video that my right hand palm pad floats a little away from left hand at top of swing to start of downswing. Not sure this is a dumb question, but like to know how firm should you keep hands together through the swing? Thanks!
Hey Frank! "My question is - Do you keep the pad of right hand palm against the thumb throughout the golf swing?" -Yes. Keep them together. Firm if needed. Firm hands fine...loose arms good.
@@CogornoGolf Thank you Eric and appreciate the response as I know you are busy. Thanks for the great breakdowns in your videos and seeing my golf swing improve. I have a bit of tennis elbow from my job coaching surfing, so its been hard to perfect my swing at the moment with the pain, but taking it slow and you have helped a ton!
Nicely explained. .where are you based Eric..I taught my son from when he was 14 months old..I had him on full size clubs by the time he was 7..seven pro's had a look at him and said he needs to be fitted for clubs and to shorten his back swing..I taught him to have a massive back swing with full finish ..There were 2 pro' s who grasped what I was doing and said keep doing what your doing..William (my son)had all the shots at nine years old ..that was 5 years ago .. now my memory for the last 4 years has deteriorated and I can't show him anymore..Gutted...He needs someone who would be willing to work with what he has instead of changing him..his longest drive by the way is 360 yards measured by someone at west lance golf club..He has a great short game and is good at his putting..he is a good player with all his irons..he's been stagnant for 4 yes..I see truly great potential with this child..I don't know what to do..Regards David..
Hey David! Appreciate the kind words....I hope you find a solution for your son! We are in Bethlehem, PA but I no longer offer private one on one training. Best to find a good local coach who has experience with players of your sons age and ability level!
@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric...But for now I'm going to have a look at your other lessons on you tube just for now..I was mad on shotokan karate for 16 years and I taught to a very high level..when I started karate I never dreamt that I would end up being a good teacher..But what I've found which is relevant to all pastime hobbies such as golf karate and anything else is;..Not everyone who is particularly good at something can teach or pass on their knowledge. .My friend was in the England squad because of his level of skill but..could not teach..so I will watch your teachings on UA-cam and hunt for an instructor who can relate to William..Thanks Eric
Great video and explanation! Couple questions: 1) Are you having more “feeling” of the hit in your left hand or right had through impact, 2) are you suggesting it’s ok to have open shoulders at impact? For a long time I’ve tried to keep closed or square at impact and not sure it’s the most consistent (sometimes creates a flip), and 3) still unsure how you get the club down to the ball with the wrist staying so bent that late in the downswing..? (right wrist bent keeps the club head from ever getting DOWN to the ball)
Thanks! 1. Right (for me) 2. Yes....average tour player is 10-30* open if you eliminate the protraction/retraction part of the shoulder. Ribcage well open. 3. Forward bend and right side bend of body to get down I explain #3 here: ua-cam.com/video/Lbluc0YCwlE/v-deo.html
Eric, I have a strongish grip. I am currently focussing on maintaining my trail wrist angle when I hit the ball, but I am tending to hook everything especially on the longest clubs including the driver. I have excellent contact with my irons. What could be the issue and is there a drill for this? (I am currently trying one-handed shots with my mid-irons using only my R hand to get some soft of feel).
Hey! Unfortunately I cannot say without seeing your swing. There are simply too many variables. Feel free to check out www.cogornogolf.com where you can send me your swing so I can help. Here is some info on matching grip with release pattern: ua-cam.com/video/8Cg2O8atmYY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/3QQUyRnRSJU/v-deo.html
I am a two handicap and I agree with most of Eric's videos. Especially about wrists and wrist angles. I disagree with this one as far as holding any angle into impact. The right wrist should bend back all the way through the backswing and unbend all the way through the downswing. This will help you get full extension at impact. This is where effortless power comes from.
In literal terms there is no arguing that the right wrist will lose extension in the downswing. Of course we know this. The question is what do MOST people need to feel so that the right wrist is still in some amount of extension at impact (which all good players do) What if a player FEELS what I say and still does what you say?
Eric Cogorno Golf I need to feel the release. I throw the heck out of it from the top of the backswing. Since the swing is a fully dynamic movement and the body is turning properly in sequence, it appears on video as though I’m holding the angle like you say but I’m actually doing the exact opposite. Point is that it is possible that you may be inadvertently creating a lot of blockers, late hitters, club-stuck-behind-ers with this lesson. The club cannot be placed in positions, it must move very fluidly through them at very high speeds. If a golfer tries to think and put the club in positions along the path, he or she will always be stuck. In this case, they will hit pushes and slices then they will try to cure by slamming the face shut at which point they will be wondering why they are hooking and pulling. Perhaps you should explain the importance of the release more.
phat nut sak yep - lower body pivot, arms drop down, hands throw release all in a dynamic fluid motion. Those are the feels. Looks very different on camera. Left wrist is flat at impact and releasing around the body (not down the line or from in to out). My miss is a 5-10 yard pull if I’m out of synch. Rarely do I hook or slice.
Eric, as my previous posts, thank you for clarifying this for me. I have mis-understood the wrist cock for most of my golf career. I played Baseball in school where I am blessed to have good hand eye coordination. How do I go about having you look at my swing for your suggestions?
i love this lag drill. i swing a hammer everyday and its the difference between driving a nail in 3 vs 10 swings. same principal. gonna practice this along with your shallow down swing drill. great videos and detail!!!
Great tip. As a 2 handicaper this has improved my striking consistency immensely. Only trouble I have is now hitting it left due to a more closed club face, particularly with the driver and longer irons. Any advice?
Hey Matt! Thanks for the kind words! I would have to see your swing to say for sure...check out Cogornogolf.com if you can't figure it out so you can join and post your swing. I would be looking at swing direction, ball position, etc. to start.
Another great video. One of my problems is that at the top of my backswing my right hand wrist and arm tense up as my brain tells me get ready to hit the ball from the top. One way I overcome the urge to hit at the top is to absolutely relax and soften my right hand wrist and arm at the top (still keeping angles--extension and hinge) and trust that I will have power to hit ball solidly by turning my body into the ball. When it works it's wonderful!
Amazing man. I had all but given up on trying to get my left hand flat in the backswing. I just can't get in to that position as my right hand always takes over. So much easier to think about bending my right wrist back and having the left follow. Can't wait to try it out at the range. Thank you.
Thanks for this detailed video , my only confusion was the statement that you can bend right wrist back anytime. To flatten the swing plane in transition it seems you would have to keep it straight in the backswing until you got nearer to the top of backswing. So should the conscious thought of bending back happen at the top during the transitional phase to downswing?
See John Rahm as an example of someone who bends the right wrist back almost immediately in the back swing. At the top he is very bowed, very laid off, and basically preset to shallow the club. Second, shallowing the plane in transition is a product of many things including wrist angles, body rotation, and forearm rotation. For example, try making a backswing where you cup your left wrist leaving the clubface wide open. Then try to shallow just by driving your right elbow towards the belly button. Conversely try bowing the left wrist in transition, but then stand the club straight up. Weird movements, but possible. I think the key idea is to make sure you're 'matching' and working within what your body is capable of or what kind of swing patterns feel best to you.
I think the risk here is early bend can also cause the hands to move away from the body which is in general not good. Watch at 15:04 where he's showing what not to do, the hands also move away from the body.
You're right....keeping it less bent during the takeaway and mid backswing and going more into extension late backswing, early downswing is more normal! The point I was trying to make is that it BEING BENT BACK is the main goal. I'd rather someone do it "too early" than not at all
Great videos. I watched one recently in which you address that whatever you do on the backswing will cause the opposite on the downs swing. If I tend to comedown with a cupped lead wrist should I exaggerate a right wrist bend at takeaway or should I take it back straight for a bent right wrist on the downs swing?
Yessir....wrist angles not one of those action/reaction parts from my experience. If you want right wrist more bent back I would bend it more going back as well
I think putting pressure on the shaft or left thumb by the right palm helps set that right wrist at the top, and also is a preventative measure to not overdo or over extend the extension of the right wrist at the top (I also watched Eric's great video on over swinging in the backswing). I had a bad habit, once I figured out flexion/extension of the right wrist, of trying to extend the right wrist too much at the top, and therefore would sometimes throw off my timing as well as the clubface through the ball. Anyway, my two cents.
Great teaching as always. The right wrist is the secret to improving my (and all others) golf. 50 years ago I was taught to bend/cup my LEFT wrist at the top of the back swing, that could have been OK is Pro had told me to reach the correct impact position. Thanks for your help.
Hey Dennis! Good question! We did a few videos on that specifically...here ya go ua-cam.com/video/8Cg2O8atmYY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/lxyLhDS_UrM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/v-deo.html
I did this drill years ago and it really improved my ball striking then. I still practice it and my ball striking still gets compliments. I believe that for me to improve I need to get better with driver off the tee and improve my short game (100 yards and in).
Want to let is throw more.... More past the ball if you have enough speed A little earlier if you have less speed That will give more loft and AOA to hit it farther!
Great question. Depends A LOT on your SPEED! More speed the trail wrist can be more extended by impact....less speed you need some more throw to have enough loft to get the ball high enough to carry far enough. More speed you can keep more bent. Certainly the release pattern also depends on your GRIP and club face angle. The more open the face the more you need the arm rotation part, the more closed the less you need it ua-cam.com/video/8Cg2O8atmYY/v-deo.html

I stumbled on to what exactly you are talking about. You are 100% spot on. This idea has dramatically changed my game for the better. I’m a right handed player. This is the best advice video on golf and this guy really knows what he's talking about. Radically improved my game in distance and control
Love to hear that my friend!
This might be the key to unlock the problem that has plagued me for years, early release and flipping my hands through impact. I took the information to my practice at the driving range yesterday and saw dramatic improvement in power and carry. Thanks. You have some of the best demonstrations and lessons on UA-cam.
My pleasure...appreciate the kind words! It's a feel that can definitely help if you lose right wrist extension too early normally.
Love to hear that! Appreciate the kind words my fiend!
Thanks, David! Love to hear that story! I'm glad you're here and you're enjoying our site. Happy you're part of the team!!
Cogorno Golf is the best golf tuition online - period.
Thanks, Andy! Appreciate it!
This is one of the best lesson i have ever seen. Clear. Clever. Generous.
I have studied a lot about these points, and this lesson has clarified and enlightened me, harmonizing all my ideas, making my swing solid and consistent.
Thank you, Eric.
Excellent! Appreciate the kind words!
Eric leaves no doubt about each component. Never knew my right wrist cannot be bent too much. This guy has helped my ball striking more than anyone.
Love it, Kurt! Thanks for being here with us!
100% agreed! Appreciate the kind words and glad you are heading in the right direction!
Your teaching style and awesome explanations are so helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant. As is the left wrist bowing video. I love your no-nonsense clarity. Thanks.
Appreciate it, Ed!
Reading all the comments down below it lets you know how much you are loved by those golfers and I am one of them, your honesty, your tuition, explanation is spot on - your jokes are crap, but hey - keep up the great work we all love you - golfing wise!
Haha thanks alan!
Hope you keep seeing progress!
@@CogornoGolf My swing is fabulous at the driving range but on the course it is not so good. Psychology I am sure.
There are a lot of videos out there, but I think your videos really help golfer who hits below 90s and looking to improve! Good job!
Appreciate it!
In the process of hinging the trail wrist to the maximum and holding the flex, the elbow is held and tucked into the waist. ONE simple focus thought on the trail wrist and (for me) the rest with the correct rotation falls in to place. Great instructional video. Many thanks.
Love it! My pleasure, Robert!
Eric ! The more I watch your episodes, the more I get impressed.. It is amazing how much you describe the details of every each moment of action in all aspects..! It is just Wow ! Two thumbs up ! Thanks a bunch !
Appreciate that!
Nick Faldo has a chapter like that in his book. Hit it with right forarm. Outstanding video. Thanks
Thanks Thomas! Our pleasure!
Love to hear that, Terry! Glad you are here with us my friend!
So did your handicap go down?
Excellent! Love to hear that! Back on track my friend!
Went to the range and tried to keep this in mind and had the best range session I think I've ever had!
Love it, Jonathan!
One of the best and MOST IMPORTANT videos I've seen. It is amazing how one little change in the swing can make such a big difference in swing quality. Well done!!
Thanks, Art!
Brilliant. Very well explained, well done young man.
Thanks Gordon!
Single handily the best golf video I’ve seen. I took a lesson last week and I was instructed to do this very thing. Yet I couldn’t find any videos on it to learn and implement it more.....until now. Thank you!!
Good stuff, thanks Scott! Appreciate it.
I have other videos on this topic as well...here's another one you may enjoy

Realized at the range today that instead of focusing on flat left wrist, focus on flexing the right wrist accomplishes the same and is easier. Came home, searched for "right wrist in backswing" and this video came up. Thank you for confirming and explaining how it works!
You got it Jack! :)
This trail wrist tip is magic thru the bag..Thanks Eric.
MY pleasure my friend!
I've been using my right wrist as my key swing thought and it has really helped me explode through the ball and make more consistent contact.
Love it
Best instruction on UA-cam, period.
Thanks, Russ!
This guy is the best for me I love the way he explains things in a clear way, thank u for helping me to see my mistakes
Appreciate it, Connie! Thanks for being here with us!
Peace out.
@@dennislaux You should be on the sites that talk about how to get the most out of shaping your blade iron shots into the green instead of here.
Just found this video. Never had I seen such well described instruction on "how" to get club square at impact and still keeping right wrist bent with forward shaft lean!! Thanks Eric.
Mike W
Thanks, Mike! My pleasure my friend!
Lol :)
Bro I love u. This one video, fixed my swing path and created more draws for me instead of fade/slices. Wasted 10 lessons trying to fix my bad habit.
Love it! Appreciate you being with us my friend!
Well explained Eric, the right hand is key especially in the downswing enabling us to compress our golf iron shots. Cheers, Troy
Thanks, Troy!
Thanks. Joe W
Appreciate it, Joe! Hope it helps!
This was interesting. It had a very positive side effect that I did not expect. I stopped hitting with the arms and it became all turn with a very soft, balanced and natural finish. And it happened all by itself. Thanks, hope is back.
:) Glad to hear that, Gunnar!
100% agreed!
Glad to hear that, Kevin! Happy you have found a solution!
I’ve been working on this concept with my pro the last few weeks since winter school started. This is a great addition to what he’s been trying to drill into me. Love your teaching style.
Thanks, Paul! Appreciate it! Happy to hear you're heading in the right direction!
That's what she said
Really great advice. I'm an overthinker when it comes to golf and this video/drill allows you to focus on one consistent thing if you work at it and advances the goal of a repeatable, consistent solid swing. Kudos, Eric.
Thanks, Jeff!
So clearly and comprehensively described Eric. Excellent video as always. Thanks for demystifying the golf swing in the impact zone.
My pleasure, Alan! Appreciate the kind words my friend!
Glad to hear that my friend!
Love to hear that Keye!

Eric, great video. Question… why not set the right wrist back at the set up then keep it bent throughout the swing?
Hey Chuck! You can! Try it and see if it helps you
Some people I see who set right away get the club too far inside under plane in the backswing which causes an opposite reaction of steep coming down
Due to your video i was watching Eric i have been able to see what i have been having trouble with my wrists even in my daily life i have trumor tension due to a car accident so i am so thankful for what you put into your videos
Happy to help Anthony! Hope you are well my friend!

Right wrist bend worked very well for me, Awesome advice Eric!!
Love it!
Eric, thank you so much,I could never figure out why my ball contact is so bad , why I’m not compressing the ball, and why my ball flight is so high and why I’ve been losing distance, this is exactly why, great video my friend.
:) Thank you! Our pleasure!
Hey David! I would say these trail wrists alignments would be fairly universal regardless of swing style (generally speaking)
Thanks!
Hey Frank!
"My question is - Do you keep the pad of right hand palm against the thumb throughout the golf swing?"
-Yes. Keep them together. Firm if needed. Firm hands fine...loose arms good.
@@CogornoGolf Thank you Eric and appreciate the response as I know you are busy. Thanks for the great breakdowns in your videos and seeing my golf swing improve.

Pure gold Eric. This video (and others) has helped me immensely
Thanks, Jay! Appreciate it my friend!
Thanks!
1. Right (for me)
2. Yes....average tour player is 10-30* open if you eliminate the protraction/retraction part of the shoulder. Ribcage well open.
3. Forward bend and right side bend of body to get down
I explain #3 here: ua-cam.com/video/Lbluc0YCwlE/v-deo.html
Eric Cogorno Golf Ahhh got it. Thanks so much!

Hope it helps!
The question is what do MOST people need to feel so that the right wrist is still in some amount of extension at impact (which all good players do)
What if a player FEELS what I say and still does what you say?
@@yelnikmcgwawa454 wait you throw your hands at the top? That sound like a recipe for a high hook
phat nut sak yep - lower body pivot, arms drop down, hands throw release all in a dynamic fluid motion. Those are the feels. Looks very different on camera. Left wrist is flat at impact and releasing around the body (not down the line or from in to out). My miss is a 5-10 yard pull if I’m out of synch. Rarely do I hook or slice.
Eric would you do the same with a 3 wood? Bend the right wrist back and hit down?
Yes...but likely let it throw a bit more during downswing.....unless you have a ton of speed. You will need some more LOFT.
Completely bloody fabulous as always. Great instruction.
Thanks, Ian! Appreciate it my friend!
Nice drill! Someone explained it to me as a similar motion to skipping rocks. That helped me achieve this instinctively.
Thanks! That works!
Hi Eric does this apply to driver thanks Roger
Yup! But you most likely want to THROW it more with the right wrist.....especially if your clubhead speed is 100mph or lower
Eric, as my previous posts, thank you for clarifying this for me. I have mis-understood the wrist cock for most of my golf career. I played Baseball in school where I am blessed to have good hand eye coordination. How do I go about having you look at my swing for your suggestions?
You are very welcome my friend!

i love this lag drill. i swing a hammer everyday and its the difference between driving a nail in 3 vs 10 swings. same principal. gonna practice this along with your shallow down swing drill. great videos and detail!!!
Thanks, Michael!
Love it!~
Great Tip Eric
Thank you, Michael!
Brilliant Eric! A game changer. If Hogan ever shared his secret this is it.
Thanks, Alan!
Does this also relate to driver swing Eric? Superb video by the way 👌👌👌👍🏌️♂️
Yes...but right wrist throws a bit more/sooner with driver.....especially IF you have less speed you need more loft
@@CogornoGolf thanks Eric, really appreciate that 👍 keep up the amazing content 👌👍🏌️♂️
Amazing man. I had all but given up on trying to get my left hand flat in the backswing. I just can't get in to that position as my right hand always takes over. So much easier to think about bending my right wrist back and having the left follow. Can't wait to try it out at the range. Thank you.
Yessir! You're welcome my friend!
I'd rather someone do it "too early" than not at all
Finally i understood the Right wrist Action! Thanks.
My pleasure my friend!
If you want right wrist more bent back I would bend it more going back as well
For those of us that are right hand/side dominant, this is gold, thanks Eric!
:)
I Agree, Rick! That pressure point helps!
Wow exactly what I was looking for
Hope it helps!
Great teaching as always. The right wrist is the secret to improving my (and all others) golf. 50 years ago I was taught to bend/cup my LEFT wrist at the top of the back swing, that could have been OK is Pro had told me to reach the correct impact position. Thanks for your help.
Thanks, James! Agreed!

Is this principle the same for hybrids woods and driver please Eric
It can be....really depends on the speed. More throw most likely for players with lower speeds

Thanks :)
I did this drill years ago and it really improved my ball striking then. I still practice it and my ball striking still gets compliments. I believe that for me to improve I need to get better with driver off the tee and improve my short game (100 yards and in).

Made a big difference already. Turf impact after the ball.......never done that before!

Saved in my fav! Great key topic!

Hi Eric, how does the bent right wrist work with the driver?
Want to let is throw more....
More past the ball if you have enough speed
A little earlier if you have less speed
That will give more loft and AOA to hit it farther!
Does this work with fairway woods or not? Seems like it would close the face too much hitting low snap hooks?
Great question.
Depends A LOT on your SPEED!
More speed the trail wrist can be more extended by impact....less speed you need some more throw to have enough loft to get the ball high enough to carry far enough.
More speed you can keep more bent.
Certainly the release pattern also depends on your GRIP and club face angle.
The more open the face the more you need the arm rotation part, the more closed the less you need it
