When I was ~19 to 20 years old (~42 years ago) I ran a similar press, but that had a motor. Stuff happened in between, now I'm a software engineer and have been since about 1994.
I spent many an hour doing just what you are doing. We used the red sealing wax on the pins though, not painters tape lol. I would imagine the tympan paper, lasts a lot longer though.
Ahhh, the familiar sound of a C&P. Mine is 1929 and run with a motor. My safety equipment is my belly. I can't reach too far or get my hand caught in the platen.
Doesn't that round flat plate has 2 pieces and both rotate in opposite direction????? Can you please make a video on how fountain mechanisms works? What is the rollers material? It should have rubberized surface but it looks like metal surface!!!!!!!
5:03 What does that lever do? ~ 6:33 After cleaning it, do you give it to the customer to hold for future printing requests? If not, what do you do with the used ones? ~ 8:35 What does the fountain do?
i dont know why but looking at these old printing presses is very satisfying and oddly relaxing
I have the same feeling!
Thank you Howard!!!!! ❤❤🧠🧠 we all appreciate each and every video! - NY
This was the first video I ever watched from this channel
Very cool sir. We have one similar to this at the print shop I work at. Thank you for the video.
Thank you sir for giving us pleasure ☺️
The cleaning is my favorite part ❤

Howard Powered 💪
Looks like this old man loves his job and enjoying it. And that is all matter.

But Howard, you ARE the engine!

“Don’t do what I’m doing”
Ah, I love this old man
Awesome!
So relaxing and awesome to watch these ^_^ Mellow Taco Tuesday! Hope you all enjoy it!
I’ve been binge watching since your videos showed up. Was always curious how you went about cleaning these.
The momentum on that HUGE wheel with all of the metal to the outside edge. That thing must go for a while with little top off energy.
I wish we could see how the ink fountain on top worked.
I know they're rarely used. But it would be nice to see some close up shots of it.
Work with C&P's for 35 years
I need one here.
In your museum, how many printers do you have? It looks like there are several of various sizes! Great content as always!!😊👍
Why not? Because this big manual machine is dangerous. 0:34

I know someone that make close to 4k prints in a day on this machine
When we have an IT meltdown we can trust on Howard en Jarred to keep the printing going.
No wonder the wheel becomes SO CLEAN!!!! You are using kerosene!!! 😮👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Tricep workout
You would have to be strong 💪 to operate that? Looks like you def need some muscles 💪 and to carry an iron board print to set in the machine …..💪
Y el motor?
Why would you advice people to not do that?
Moving machinery and hands/appendages usually don't mix. If they do at least one stops being useful.
When putting ink or adding, you put spread it wide and thin at the edge of the disk, it spreads faster and easier than spots he is applying.
I think he knows what he’s doing 😉
