@@fbmimpy yah its def become a hidden gem. imo i put it up there with platoon, apocalypse, full metal, etc. i remember when it first came out the commercial on tv i was at my gfs house and her best friend was there who had just enlisted and she was hyped to see it coming out. it didnt have the action i thought it would have, more of a drama, but the acting and dialog of all the actors is what i love. even in saving private ryan my favorite part starts as they start walking and talking to go look for ryan and the dialog they have.

This makes alot of sense after I wathced the airforce documentary of their bootcamp where they followed 5 recruits (or trainees as they call em) through the whole bootcamp experience. From wake up to bed. Was an amazing experience as a documentary can be. One of the guys whose name is "Garcia", after 4 weeks, decided to tell them that his father murdered someone before and he was mentally scarred for it... He had another 4 weeks until grad and was doing ok up to that point. What did they do then? Give him proper pscologic and psychiatric support? Oh nonono they sent him this "chaplain" guy as if they are some fukin warhammer 40k space marine chapter and not a modern military. Not to mention he got kicked off immediately from training but not completely from the premises... Oh no... They then forced him to stay alongside actually hospitalised people and misdemeanor suspects with same hellish routines until his flight graduated so he would feel bad for coming clean and seeking help... No more further comments.

I completely understand why he didn’t want to get a lawyer agains the Marine corps, even though they are fucking him and his career over Something so minor he still has love for his branch and doesn’t want to do anything that would harm the Marines corps, he’s owning up to his faults and he’s taking his punishment like a real Marine ....... fuckn integrity

They changed it for the movie. He never had a criminal record but got in trouble when he was stationed in the Phillipines so they would not let him re-enlist when the time came.

Had Jarhead been a Tour of Duty type TV series (I’m avoiding referencing more recent things like BoB or The Pacific) you could have spent and Entire episode covering the subject of this scene but a movie tends towards Conversation that are way too quick to be real.

Troy's a formerly convicted felon (drug distribution and possibly B&E for his car). He lied to his recruiter and on his written application about his past, somehow slipped through the background check. Flash forward and the bureucrats finally realize their mistake, hence Troy is awaiting verdict on his case. It's either a court martial, or he accepts whatever punishment is ordained to him for breaching his contract with the armed forces (Not truthfully disclosing past felonies is a breach of clause within the contract). Most likely he's getting kicked out, and thats why Swafford is pissed.

@@mrandrossguy9871 No it's real. The book is called Jarhead by Anthony Swafford. It's his memoir of his time in the military and the Gulf War. Legit stuff. Mostly about the hurry up and wait life of deployment and how mundane it can all be whilst also being incredible tense and on edge.

This movie was one of the most degrading movie, and lump of bullshit. 8 years I spent in the Marines. This pile of garbage destroys one of the fiercest most honorable branches in the World. The boot camp scene was cringe worthy at best. The closest movie about MCRD Parris Island was Full Metal Jacket, because it was shot at Parris Island, and had a real former drill instructor.
