Anthony (Jake Gyllenhaal from The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain and Zodiac) and Alan (Peter Sarsgaard from Orphan and Green Lantern) come back to camp to see all the soldiers partying around a fire. They are shirtless and drunk. They are celebrating their imminent return home. Sergeant Sykes (Jamie Foxx from Django Unchained, The Amazing Spider-Man and White House Down) tells them to relax and smoke a cigar. All the soldiers shoot in the air with their rifles to celebrate.

That reminds me of a old video tape I have of my Dad in '91. He was in his last few years in the Marine Corps before retiring. As a Master Gunnery Sergeant he was in charge of casualty control back at base. He was doing a 7 o'clock interview with the local newstation about families getting false claims that their servicemember dying in the war. Basically giving information on where to call to verify such things. Anyway in some of the other interviews on that broadcast was at the mall near Camp Lejeune. One of the customers there was giving the journalist an opinion that said, "we need to get this done all the way, or we'll be back later." That was a bit prophetic. My sister did three tours over there (one in '91 and others in the 2000s), I didn't see Iraq myself, but did have a short deployment in Egypt. Never fired a rifle in combat myself, may have had one fired at me (still have no clue if that was a few pot shots where we were staying or just a wedding celebration, or both).

Imagine walking back to base from a mission, alone in the desert at night and the only source of light are burning oil wells. In the distance you hear screaming and see smoke. You immediately begin to panic, as you crawl slowly up the hill, you find what appear to be beheaded Marine helmets with gas masks, as if the Iraqis ruthlessly slaughterd your team. Your adrenaline starts rushing and your excitement rolls in as you ready your gun and prepare to ambush. When you jump over, you see your entire unit celebrating the end of the war, none of them getting a single kill.
Prepare to ambush the guys who probably whipped out your entire unit on your own? I like your attitude.
You should write a book

During MCT, at the range. Hot brass from the person shooting next to me landed inside my blouse. In my attempt to wiggle it out, I ended up wedging it in between my back and my blouse. The burning shell dug itself into my skin. Good times. I still have the burn scar

Because, in "House fight Situations", alot of Rifles are a pain in the ass if you basically change to an left hand grip and are forced to swallow the casings basically.

249 Saw has considerable more weight than the M4 but fires the exact same round so it wouldn’t be crazy if he was able to control the recoil to the point where the muzzle flashes obscure any noticeable recoil but I do have to agree with you, dude is literally standing completely still and it looks as if the gun isn’t even moving, let alone cycling it’s bolt and dishing out brass. I really don’t understand how they don’t catch simple stuff like this in editing. Like they literally added a muzzle flash but couldn’t be bothered to make it look even close to realistic😂

A little detail I just noticed. At 1:53 troy is seen holding down the trigger on his M16 and it is seen producing fully automatic fire as opposed to the 3 round burst feature that the M16A2 typically would have. This means Troy's M16 has an A1 lower receiver on it therefore not making it an M16A2 but rather a very early version of the M16A3.

It doesn’t make it an M16A3. Movie armourers don’t have many A2s. Much easier to 😢 up a more readily available transferable A1. This is the case in almost all movies showing A2s.
There is something addicting, somehow calming, of shooting a firearm. It is just feeling that much power, and lethality at your total control is soothing in some strange way.

I worked with a veteran back in 2007, an Army Ranger who had been back in the states for nearly a year, he told me a few stories about Afghanistan and Iraq, one that I remember is he described being on patrols and marines would kick potholes to check for IED devices, proving to each other how brave they were. He said it was unbelievable and then he saw Marines who would sprint from cover to get insurgents to shoot at them and give themselves away.
I’ve had the police surround my house over 100 times since getting out of the corps. They think I’m crazy. I’m average at best.
