- In this video I make a serving tray with 3 types of joinery: finger joints to attach two pieces of wood together; a breadboard attached to each end with a mortise and tenon, using dowels with a draw bore; and legs attached with a sliding dovetail joint.
I made this tray from American black walnut and tiger maple so that there are highly contrasting woods to

Excellent! Always a fan of contrasting woods!
Cool board, Mike! I think the finger joints are my favorite part.
Looks like a great project for a wood class and great use of leftover end cuts. I would make this.
Absolutely beautiful.
I really like this design as it shows a number of techniques. Thank you for sharing!
Now that's a perfect serving tray for a woodworker!
Beautiful. Great job. Thanks.
Beautiful serving tray
I absolutely would. Not only a beautiful piece but a great way to prototype build for larger work with similar joinery... without breaking the bank (or my spirit). Thank you.
Very nice project sir!! Be safe and keep up the excellent work, Greg
Beautiful work!
Really great looking!
Definitely. Will be making this for sure. A very original/modern design.

Very nice
Nice I like it.
Hi Mike. I like your projects and presentation style. Just subbed.
Thanks, Michael!
muito bom!
Hi Mike!
It is a very nice video!!!!!
Congratulation.
im making it right now!!!!
Yes, I will make it.
Yes
You are one of the few that elongate the outer holes on the breadboard ends so it can expand seasonally. Several "makers" don't know what to do.
Yea but he also glued the end dowels to the tenon which negates that. Also I have no idea why he’s making a climb cut when doing the sliding dovetails. Very dangerous
I sure would :)
I sure would make it I even saved the video
SWEEET !
I wood make it! Very nice.
I'd make it!
Just received my INCRA I-Box Jig last week. If I give this project a go I will be sure to let you know how it turns out :-) Great work!
Awesome! Good luck if you decide to make it!
Excellent work, beautiful beautiful. My name is Marcos, live in Brasil
Thank you, Marcos!
Love it! Making one this weekend. A couple things though... when you are making the breadboard mortise, you are technically making a climb cut which is super sketchy to me. Also when you were doweling the breadboards to the tenons it looks like you glued the outer tenon dowels all the way.. isn’t that gluing the dowel to the tenon? Maybe I’m wrong but I’d think that completely defeats the purpose of elongating the tenon holes to allow for seasonal wood movement.
Yeah I would make it. Probably wouldn't do as much finishing as you though. Just my style though.
Would love to make this, I think it looks stunning. I don't suppose you have a plan for this to download?
But as a woodworking novitiate, I need to watch some more finger-joint jig videos and get some practice in on cheap off cuts before letting myself loose on the expensive stuff.
great design and tutorial on the different joinery methods! what is purpose for 6 coats of tung oil? isn't it's job just to soak in and seal the wood for preventing moisture...then you could do the parafin and paste wax for the final sheen you want?.. it wouldnt build up layers on the wood or anything correct?
Pumice stone polishing nice do you have a more indepth video on polishing with it.
You might find a little more information at the end of this video where I rub the chess board with pumice stone and paraffin oil. ua-cam.com/video/N2I2UacznHY/v-deo.html
Someone needs to introduce this guy to featherboards.......
Pretty sure he's met them already. He uses one in the video.
Are you Canadian?
nscr2 What gave it away? My accent or the ring?
Wood U Make It, it was actually the clamps you used when joining the finger joints
I am Canadian as well
Good eye! I've had those for a long time. I think maybe I picked them up at one of the Canadian Tire weekly specials at least 20 years ago.
