I was gunna just get a 1.0 and buy a 1.2 tip but now may just buy a 1.0 and a .5 tip for very small projects , that or 0.8 and 1.2? We’ll see, but if you have any takes that would be awesome. @@peteshelby21 , The 0.5 is quite limiting in what it will do, but obviously for really intricate things it's ideal, i would say a 1.2 and 0.8 would be a great combination, would cover everything, it amazing how versatile a 1.2 mini gun is, really handy for most things and the size or lack of size more to the point is brilliant for small intricate work.
      I've only recently got the F160, it 1.9, i have been really impressed with it, seams a step up from the Devilbiss FLG5 or SBK I think it's called in the US ?, I have only used it for primer but may get a 1.3 tip set and try it with clear and base, as i say, very impressed 👍

      Hey , Pete. been 2 years from our last conversation. Just now finally gunna order the R160 after I was already impressed with the F-160. I asked ANI about HPS compared to HVLP. Since here in the USA we mainly use HVLP and LVLP. Seeing if you can confirm. They say the HPS is similar to LVLP? Is that accurate that you know?

    Interesting vid Pete, it's surprising how much the different tip sizes effect the size of the fan. I do have the ANI R150 with the 1.2 it was my second gun after getting fed up with the cheap amazon one I got to get me started with spraying.
    After I got the SRI the R150 didn't get used as I liked the SRI so much I just kept to that brand apart from trying the AZ4 which I didn't get on with.

      They are a great vfm mini gun, they don't have the finesse of the Sri or many others to be fair, they rely on pressure rather than design, still, for me the best feeling min in my hands and a great physical size, I've been having a clear out of late, to make way for new stuff so I've only kept the R150 in 1.2, the rest have gone, I've got the R160 in 1.2 as well which I'll also keep👍

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 3 роки тому +2

      Although I liked the R150 I didn't think it was giving me as good a finish as the SRI does which again was just down to my lack of experience at the time.
      I didn't know that the R150 needed higher air pressure to get the same result that you would when using the SRI at 2bar but I do agree that the R150 is a nice gun to use and sits nice in the hand as like you I have shovel hands 😁🤭

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Vedran, it's a combination of the two really, you need a big tip for primer normally particularly if it's high build as it's thicker, if for example you are spraying a cycle frame you would ideally need a smaller tip for base and clear than you would for primer but both would ideally be smaller than you would use for a car panel, this is because ideally you want the fan wide open for a better pattern but don't want a lot of overspray, hope that helps

    Can I shoot with a compressor that is rated 6.1 cfm @ 40psi with this gun? Also, for metallic BC and CC only, is the 1.0 or 1.2 the right choice? Thanks for the help!!

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, it would depend on the tank size assuming it has a tank and how much spraying you have to do, 40psi is fine as you will only need 25 to 29 psi at most, 6.1 cfm is right on the limit and is probably more or less what the gun uses, so i would say it should be ok but only for smaller parts, not ideal though, if i was only going to have one tip it would be 1.2, this will cover basecoat and MS/HS clears

    • @alienxyt
      @alienxyt 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback. Its a 29 gallon tank (110L) and I only want to do smaller pieces. Maybe a little bigger than a motorcycle helmet. I bought the compressor because someone else told me I could do that sized job with a 20 gallon compressor. I never checked for myself though. So I bought the compressor 1st and then realized the guns I was looking at were all going to need a much more robust air supply. I was hoping these mini guns would work though because I don't need a full-sized gun in the first place. I did this all backwards and now I'm trying to find a way to still get some use out of the compressor and paint some small fiberglass parts.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  4 роки тому +1

      @@alienxyt, A 29 gallon tank will be fine, you can obviously let the tank fill before starting and you will find the tank will last you around 60 seconds of continuous spraying before the pump would start, that's loads of spraying for small parts, helmets, etc, indeed it will allow you to do plenty of larger parts

I thinned the clear 1:0.75, using 0.8mm tip, 25psi, fan fully open, and fluid two turns out. If I reduce the fluid any further the fan gets too small. Heres a photo

      @peteshobbies5383  4 роки тому +1

      HI Mark, so you put 75ml of thinners to 100ml of clear? , I'm not sure what clear you are using but most 1k clears i know of aren't meant to be thinned, the data sheet for your clear may say different, if the clear is affecting the base coat it does sound like it's either over thinned, so the thinners are reacting with the base or it's on to heavy at the start, over thinned or to heavy would also explain runs, not sure what the temperature is where you are but if it's less than say 20c then get a heat gun on the fairing before you clear and in between coats, be careful though as obviously this stuff is flammable, plenty of ventilation needed, also heat the clear if possible so leave the tin in the sun for a hour or two before you use it

    • @jaykrom852
      @jaykrom852 3 роки тому

      I didn't see the runs, but saw what looks like a lot of orange peel. I would guess that 1) it wasn't thinned enough, 2) It wasn't sprayed evenly enough- too wet in some areas and dry in others- runs vrs. peel. Some 1k lacquers in the past needed 150 percent reduction, not 75%. That shape does look tricky to spray!
