There’s a Reddit post that gave hints to this event that he’s the guy apparently faked his degree and it worked for years but there was words he diddnt know how to do and at a high level event he just made things up

A deaf person can always write what they want to say.
The fact that the performance was fake was obvious to anybody with even the slightest knowledge of ASL, or even to someone who doesn't. I only know a handful of signs, and I detected that he was fake before the news services announced it. When a word that I knew came up, he didn't use the sign, for example. And he repeated nonsense hand movements when the spoken words were not repeated. And there were plenty of other indicators.
I speculate the security services were alerted after the first sentence. But security didn't want to make a scene, so they let it play out. Besides, they didn't have a replacement.

He seemed to know a few real signs, but not know a real language. Facial expressions and changes in body language/gestures are part of the languages, and all the major sign languages have many more signs -- he just ignored many words/phrases, & repeated a few simple signs. It's like someone who took 1st year French in high school interpreting a speech.
Apparently, he could sign (somewhat in Zulu) but certainly not in English.

I can't understand how noone else caught this at an international event of this magnitude there should've had a backup sign language person anyway.
Also, I heard closed captions and lip reading won't do, but I'm getting older and I can't hear too good so I'll mute the tv and have captions sometimes and I enjoy it just the same. So why the dancer?

UA-cam auto complete takes what you previously watched into effect. If a bunch of people who just watched a video search the same thing, for example something referenced in the video, youtube sets those autocomplete queries as priority for anyone who has recently watched the same video.

Funny story! When I first saw it on TV, I was watching it with my dad... Now mind you, I was nowhere near being fluent (at the time of Nelson Mandela's memorial), and we were watching it live -- BEFORE the accusations of it being fake.. as I'm watching it, I lean over to my dad... And I say to him: "I don't know, Dad. I know that I'm still new to learning ASL, but I don't understand anything he's signing... Maybe he's using some type of African Sign Language." My dad and I still laugh about it, to this day. After he was exposed as a fraud, my dad said to me that the Deaf ppl in Africa probably were thinking the same thing and thought it must be American Sign Language... sad that Nelson Mandela's memorial was overshadowed by this fraud. It's sad he had to ruin it for someone who had such an impact on the world.. RIP, Nelson Mandela! You're still in our thoughts
