I love this series, but I liked it a bit more when you would commentate some of the moves of the puzzle with the storyline, not just giving the story at the start and end and only showing the puzzle in the middle. Yet, the series is still really well thought out, put together, and made. Please keep producing these videos, and I can’t wait for the next one. Thanks so much.
next episode plans 1. Stormtroopers capture joe and peter on who are en route to the ancient libraries 2. they meet darth vader 3. vader agrees to let them go if the solve a chess puzzle 4. nelson gives explanation 5. peter correctly solves it 6. vader agrees to drop them off at the edge of the dragons lair.
I like the idea that the row boat boy tested Peter and Joe to see if they are good at solving puzzles knowing full well that if they solve kraken's puzzle, they will have to go back. Essentially making it so that our protagonists won't cross the lake either way. And then he just told them to go the long way around. So basically the boy pranked them and wasted their time.
@@fifiwoof1969 Yes ! He called them thieves or bullies, and was too afraid to answer them so he set up to have them dead, with high confidence in the kraken not harming the boat. Some kinda torture AND sinking dat useless boat seems civilized, only IF the boy cannot solve their puzzle ofc. Anyway he still owes them, his long answer not enough.
I love this series. Really entertaining story and great puzzles. I have an idea of a Martin Challenge. I have a feeling you've done one similar but I still wanna mention it: Play against Martin but you have to mirror every of his moves. If you cannot mirror a move he made you are allowed to move the pieces freely which aren't mirrored.
From 3:05....I had another mate.....White King to C6....the key move for three scenarios at this point. Black gets a queen from Pawn to f8, rook to G8, checkmate after the rook takes the queen to block. But if black gets a pawn from d8, with rook to G8 check, the queen moves to block and gets taken by the rook, and checkmate. Now, if instead of advancing either pawn to a queen, the King is moved to the only square it can go, which is B8, then bishop to F4, check. If the king moves back to C8 that is checkmate with rook to G8. So king moves to the corner, A8. White king back to B6, either pawn queens and checkmate with rook to G8. That is my best guess at a late hour, and let me know if that works, although maybe your checkmate was better.
3:17 according to Stockfish on lichess, there are 3 winning moves: Rc7, Kc6 and Rf7, i am not trying to be offensive but basically to understand that if you choose one of these moves, it is correct Rf7 is not mate in 4 and it is kind of waiting move except that you are protecting f-pawn promotion, even if they promote the d-pawn you can still skewer it by Rf8 and then Rd8 and Rxd1
If the other lines are winning but are not mate in 4 we can ignore those lines, even if it's a mate in 5, it's always the case in such puzzles, we only look at two winning lines if they are equivalent or maybe if a slow line is spectacular, but otherwise we mostly look on different lines when they are different possible defenses.
Sometimes puzzles can have multiple winning moves, especially in variation lines, and that's fine. The objective is to win, and finding any winning move should count as solving the puzzle in that variation.
@@danielyuan9862 Yes, two or more equivalent winning lines are fine in a puzzle. In the puzzle _review_, one can choose its favorite only or show multiple lines, Rc7+ stays in the spirit of the puzzle and is somehow zugzwang after rook back to d7, when Kc6 is perfectly equivalent with a direct unavoidable backrank mate threat, helped with the Bf4+ move so there is no repetition. I mean the first comment is interesting, mentionning the existence of this second line, but it's not unusual for the puzzle review to kinda ignore those. On the second hand I would totally discard the third line with Rf7. I understand the comment though, why not mention it when it's there, the only other move that is winning, but as for the puzzle review, there would be such lines everywhere. On rare occasions, the length of the mate could be deceiving. For example here, if anywhere there would be a line where you could immediatly secure taking the pawns, and like it's insta resignable after one or two move, I would consider it as a short line regardless of it being a forced mate in 18. This is usually done, quickly, as a trivial line, in the reviews. But damn, there is usually a mate, and it should really be long and boring to not show it instead. For example here, 1. Rg7+ Kb8?, you can do 2. Rd8 and negate the threats, and I find it cool, but 2. Kb6 is mate in 5. I would go for the Rd8 line for the sake of showing it once :) The first comment was very polite, so here is a disclaimer too, I'm not contradicting the comment nor the answer I got, I'm giving some explanations for the "general reader", because honestly I think the commentators both know what I'm saying already.
This is a pretty long way for the two friends to get to the Dragon's Lair Also I noticed everything in this series are coming together like Bobby lost his chess rating and his friends received a pill which can make your chess rating become normal when you're not doing anything
That's 20 episodes at least, on the buddies lore alone. But there can be surprises, early reunion, routes changing, dilemmas, a dumb Peter Patzer needed to save the day...
"Can we borrow the boat to get to the dragons lair?" "Sure, solve the puzzles though" "We solved the puzzles and we were forced to turn around" "Right, I wanted my boat and you were borrowing it, theres a second path to the dragon's lair though" "............you're a jerk"
Argh! Had this one till Kc5 but somehow my board vision screwed up and I missed the net closing with Be5; from there, it's kind of intuitive. Expected something weird with d1N but no, that's just plain losing 😁
If Black moves Ka8, White moves Kb6, and in the next move, whatever black does, Rg8 leads to a checkmate. If black moves Kb8, White moves Kb6, creating Rg8# checkmate threat, so Black has to move Kc8, which is the same as it immediately moved to Kc8 at 2:14 position.
well, first all the places need to be filled with green, so we will have to wait until that last stop whether Bobby Fisher and his friends escape the island or not.
What if for the next episode they reach an inventor at their next destination who promises to build a machine for Peter Patzer and Average Joe if they can solve a Chess puzzle that the two can use to reach the Dragon's lair faster

Alright, this was pleasantly unexpected! The kraken doesn't play according to the island's rules. Interesting!
Kraken the rules lawyer: I'm not on the island, per say, but in the water surrounding it. Dragon: Oh, I don't think so.
Man, you come up with the best idea ever
Missing apostrophe in "I'd" @8:29, and an extra space after the apostrophe @8:35.

Excellent
What about moving the black king between c4 and c5 at the end? How will white make progress?
Bd6+c5 Then depending on what Black does either push the pawn to promotion or take the Knight with your King.
We need an update on Bobby and the caterpillar.

I wonder what would happen if they met Bobby Fisherman in the village. I hope he at least tries to get there in a way.
2:14 what do you mean? what's stopping the king going to a8 or b8 ?
Still Kb6, and Black's even worse off than if their king was on c8.
My guess is easy mate by white.
