Bruce Lee. Real Fights and Dispelling Myths

  • 45 years after his death, Bruce is still recognized as the greatest martial artist in history and the mastermind behind a generation. To achieve so much, to rethink the genre of cinema and, in principle, to acquaint the mass audience with the true beauty and effectiveness of martial arts, and all this in 32 years of life, is truly incomprehensible...

    As a young featherweight amateur boxer in the 1970's I went to the cinema to see Enter the Dragon. It changed my life forever. I watched in utter amazement at the speed and talent that Bruce Lee possessed in his repertoire . I actually incorporated some of his moves into my style. It helped me win many of my bouts. Like Bruce, I was a bit of a fitness freak and lived in the gym, I never drank or smoked and lived a clean life. I read many books to help me understand his philosophy. I was saddened to hear of his passing in 1974 at the height of his career. We never really got to see the greatness of the man, only glimpses. Bruce Lee left us with a legacy in history which I don't believe anyone can replicate.

    His philosophy still lives today as a way to look inside oneself and extend the answer currently before him to the outside self in the form of physical power. His much remembered “Be like water my friend” is still as powerful today as it is was from the time he uttered it on a Hong Kong TV show. I enjoyed this look back at Bruce Lee and his Gung fu. Thank you very much for producing it.

      Bruce Lee wouldn't have had 30 more years to develop. Biologically speaking, when Bruce died at the age of 32, he may have add another 10 to 15 years to continue to develop before biology took over and he started the slow decline that happens for all men. Even performance-enhancing drugs, or in Bruce's case, health supplements, can only help stop or slow the degeneration to a certain level, before age is too great a factor.

    • @waltersimmons946
      @waltersimmons946 6 місяців тому +2

      @scottnever8732 That wasn't the point. Had Lee lived longer, and the brain edema episode NOT have happened Lee would've definitely kept training , kept doing interviews blasting classical techniques which pissed some "masters" off. He would've most likely at some point got behind the camera because he already had Concord productions with Raymond Chow so he never had to sit by the phone waiting for an acting job. Since the brain edema did happen . If he lived after the second incident on July 20,1973, most likely he would have not been able to act or fight anymore and the way his personality was due to being highly active. He most likely would not have wanted to live that way not being able to do anything himself. He had stated he didn't want to be a helpless old man. Basically he lived and died the way he expected. Burning out rather than rusting out. Just saying.

    Bruce is the reason I became fascinated with martial arts in the first place. His style, his philosophy, his very way of being was nothing less than beautiful. If I was given the opportunity to resurrect one person from history.... It would be a hard choice between him and Christopher Hitchens but I believe I would take Bruce. Both great minds, both great thinkers. But I believe that Bruce has not only changed the world of martial arts but changed an entire way of thinking and to that effect the world is so much lesser without him. The first movie was enter the dragon and it will always be the most memorable movie I have ever seen . I was about 10 yrs old and after the movie was over and we left the theater everyone was imitating his moves we all thought we were Bruce for months after us kids were still doing the fight scenes and the iconic sound he would make when delivering a blow . It was so impactful to so many people from 3yr olds to 40yr olds . You would see them recreating fight scenes and it would real serious cause everyone wanted to be Bruce and no one wanted to be the opponent especially when it came to the final scenes of the movie with the levels on each floor and the top floor final fight it was epic . As I got older the movie took on a whole new meaning and realization of the wisdom., discipline,and how extraordinarily special and unique he was . There has never been another human being of his nature to exist and in my opinion never will. There is only one Bruce and the impact on so many millions of people in his short time on this earth continues today and will for eternity. R.i.p my brother.

I'm 64 now still trying to be as fast as her. 1974 my mom was 45 when she was coming out of the bathroom and she was hit in back of her head, My mom had two moves a punch to the gut and a upper cut to chin.the lady was 6feet tall she was flying in the air landing on a table broke it, everyone there said she was out before she hit the table and Mom was on her before she hit floor . That's powerful enough to left 200 pounds off floor in just a punch.

But still I have watched this video twice. Why ? Bruce Lee has an influence far beyond marital arts and I feel this influence pushes far into humanity itself. That's why I am (in a strange way) proud to say I am not a marital artist or a boxer just to show legitimately, that in the hearts of many "Bruce Lee" was clearly someone special. "FOR ALL". He was my inspiration in formally studying martial arts in early high school (1984) and continue to do so now, evolving as I age. One of the main reasons for my decision was also based on the circumstances that Bruce found himself in - constant attempts at bullying of me and my siblings because we grew up in various places where we were not immediately accepted, we had to fight everyday, but we were glad we went through that because all those experiences toughened us, made us wiser and smarter, and more understanding and respectful of people regardless of status, age, education/intellectual capacity.... So, thank you Bruce, and to his family who continues to manage the publication of his stories. God bless you and all those who were similarly inspired by his life.

      @UNTRIABLE GAMING Bruce was so far ahead of his time as he was a student of several crafts even beyond martial arts like boxing. He’s the true father of mixed martial arts. So if he lived today he would have put his incredible learning skills to tighten up his only MMA perceived weakness of ground game though in movies he took opponents out with rear naked chokes & triangle chokes which he used to kill Chuck Norris on film. So he could have perfected jui jitsu seeing how he used submission moves before they were well known 50 years ago. Dude was 1 of a kind & though of course many skilled fighters would favorably match against Lee.

Instead of cursing the world he just said fuck it I’ll go be a star somewhere else. Did just that and got people crawling back to him begging to work with him. As much as dad would have liked me to carry on his his boxing legacy I was under the spell of the magnificence of Bruce Lee's martial arts, Kung Fu or his form, jeet June do, I became fanatical and later left the boxing ring to try my hand at martial arts. I was so awe inspired by not only his martial arts prowess but also his philosophy's. I watched every one of Bruce's movies multiple times, but one movie caught my attention undeniably.... Enter the Dragon, I saw the movie enter the Dragon 179times, I even drove to different cities even a different state once to watch this particular movie, this guy just blew me away with his kicks and punches and the speed and accuracy with which he could execute them, I was so engrossed in this movie I actually learnt the script and would sit with my friends and mouth the script word for word, I've seen many good martial artist in my days but never has their been an exponent as good as nor as dynamic as Bruce Lee, and just for the record I'm 5' tall and I will tell you also size does not matter 😊

Here I sit in awe once again, taken back to my childhood in the 70’s when I first saw him in “The Big Boss” on a Sunday afternoon after church when one of only 3 stations we had played it for free. I watch as tears well up in my eyes. A 60 year old man now a Grandfather. Heart broken to the shear loss of such a talented man not only in his physical prowess but his gentle loving kindness that he spread to those that knew him. The only positive takeaway I can see is that he didn’t have to suffer the loss of Brandon or see the sad state of failure that humanity has achieved.

But, when he got hit, he normally made it funny and made himself seem like an average guy with martial arts training that was caught in crazy situations. He was so relatable. I always respected Bruce, but it wasn't until the last decade or so when I started to realise why he was so revered. I have endless respect for the man. That being said, I also truly believe that what MJW said was completely true. He's still training in the modern world, even with UFC fighters. To think that Bruce could hang with him is crazy given the size and weight difference along with the modern approach to martial arts. I just wish that Bruce would have lived long enough to see his vision come to life as it is now in MMA. I think he would have been even better than he was if he had lived to continue expanding his philosophy and style.

    When Bruce fights Chuck it's so hard to watch as they were both my dad's idols.
    My dad looked like Chuck but darker hair everywhere lol
    He took his life when I was 10, 31 years ago.
    I love Bruce Chuck Dad and anyone you is a legend like them thank you for the videos!!!!

    Just watching this video made me tear up. I was a teen when Bruce 's movies were released. It was such a shock when he died. The Green Hornet and Kato were my first memories of Bruce. I am so glad he went to Hong Kong so he could have control of his movies. He is an amazing person. His comeback after his back injury inspired many people. I really respect Kelly for not indulging his knowledge of who Bruce sparred with. Not everything in a person's life should be for public consumption. The second shock was when his son Jason died on set. Such a strange death also.

    For such a little guy, he had tremendous strength. He was only 5'7" and about 135 lbs. Despite his small size he had such explosive power. He could take the strength of his entire mind, body and spirit and put it into his fist. There will never be another one like him.

      then you have schmucks like MJW trying to downplay Bruce. Bruce hit hard as ANY HEAVYWEIGHT is what people in the know have described.
      if you knew he invented protein shakes, and was very aware of carbohydrates long before Atkins, and had special equipment made because normal stuff was too weak, and he invented the TENS unit which his friend built for him which would electrically stimulate his muscles while he was writing and studying and was the equivalent of doing 1000 pushups.
      most people know nothing about Lee. they know he was in some movies so they think he's an actor.

    • @pope66
      @pope66 3 роки тому +2

      We now know that when someone is electrified, say by grabbing a power line, and they are "blown back", that electricity itself doesn't move the body; our own muscles contract and push us away, which can be several feet. We now question the depths of what our muscles can actually do. Mr. Lee could tap into strengths unknown. The connections between our mind and body are strengthened through practice. His entire life was his practice of mind and body. This is why his strength is legendary, and unmeasurable.

    This is a great, no-nonsense look at a great man, without the hyperbole and fantasy tales that accompany many other videos. Bruce Lee's speed is what set him apart as well as his training and techniques. Like a martial arts friend of mine said, "If someone punches a 500 lb bag and it moves even a little, don't fight that guy."

    In my 80’s childhood and dealing with discrimination, Bruce became a part of my protector. I remember white kids constantly calling me names but they were scared to fight because they really thought I had some Bruce skills in me and that I might just whoop them. Lots of confrontation ended peacefully, thanks to the fear of Bruce. No joke.

      I’m Jewish and feel your pain. Dealt with discrimination in my life and drudged through my fair share of elementary school bullying. But hey, we’re still here so eff them, right? 😂 on a serious note though, I’m so sorry that happened to you. And glad Bruce Lee was there for you. When you think of how many lives he probably inspired, touched, motivated, saved and yes even gave a sense of protection to, it’s truly incredible what he accomplished in his all too tragically cut short life. Probably millions of people, more than he could have ever known. But Maybe, just maybe, he’s watching over you still, right this minute 😇

The way he was and what knowledge this incredible man had. thought me to be true to self and be confident. That you can fight without fighting this helped me a lot through my life . I have fought people bigger then me and had success. The wisdom he had to give in his short but impactive way of life lives to this day in me and I am great full for all he has done for the world in the time he had 🙏 truly an great and inspiring man and will for ever live on in hearts of many and will continue to

    During my high school days in 1970s, boys of our section and all others from A to C idolized Bruce Lee, and most cut classes who went downtown Cebu City to view the movie "Enter the Dragon". Thereafter majority enrolled in Karate Clubs led by Bruce Lee-like staunch fanatic classmate. Our youthful days centered around Lee and basketball, as extracurricular activities. How life would be great for us in our happy go lucky days.
