People. I'm so tired of retarded comments like " the footage wasn't lost". AND YES IT WAS, because bruce died before he could finish his project. And the movie was never made. LOST FOOTAGE OR LOST MOVIE, dont try to act smart with me, making word games. Who cares? man, if Bruce Lee were to live to complete this film, i think this film would top "Enter The Dragon". This film was to show case his philosophy, his art and his style of "Jeet Kun Do" a way of an intercepting fist. A style of no style that can adapt to his opponent. this would be one of the greatest film of all time. dang! we missed Bruce Lee a lot. RIP master Bruce Lee.

But yeah with the technology at that time, it wouldn't have been possible to create such a scene, unless they casted someone as his body double. But the main issue with that would've been, nobody would've looked as ripped as Lee so it would've been obvious to the audience that it's somebody else and thus they would've failed to generate any impact.

Well Firewalker tell your aunt I believe you. But you were later to the party than I. I'm also from Vancouver (well born and raised in Burnaby) so I'm familiar with what you are saying. While you were watching Bruce on TV I had already seen Fists of Fury, Chinese Connection, and Return of the Dragon in movie theatres down in that part of Van. I saw Enter the Dragon at Lougheed Mall back when it had its 3 theatres. All before I was 11 (I'm now soon pushing 60). Like you I'm a life long fan and admirer of Bruce who's style and philosophical outlooks have had a profound influence on who I am today. After he died and Linda brought him back to Seattle for burial my parents drove down to pay our respects. At that time there was just a small plaque on the ground. Over the years I have been to Seattle 7 or 8 times always making a point of stopping at Lakeview Cemetery to say Hello and Thank-you to Bruce and am glad to see his final place of rest has become a shrine much more fitting to a man like Bruce and his son.
Stay cool Firefly and always remember 'Be Water'.

Unfortunately, the last soundtracks added (in the fight against Abdul Jabbar) doesn't fit in good way to the scenes, it sounds modern, like a fight videogame, and it sounds good but it doesn't match to the ambience and style from the original soundtrack. Plus, when this soundtracks was added, the voices and sounds from the actors lost presence.

That was Lee's real martial arts philosophy, at least when it came to the physical...protecting your self at all cost. Lee understood the concept of real street fighting. If you encounter a guy who is 6 feet, 5 inches and a whopping 300 pounds, you do whatever you have to do to protect your "LIFE." That's how Bruce Lee envisioned every possible street fight--you may have to fight to the death. Unfortunately, many people have died in street fights because they never considered the cost of life.

I believe this is Bruce's finest fight choreography.... the nunchaka battle with Dan Inosanto is really wicked with blinding speed on both sides. Ironically its my understanding that Dan Inosanto taught Bruce the nunchaka Bruce expanded on it adding his flare and speed to the mix. Of all the times Bruce utilized the nunchuks this one I feel takes top honors with the Chinese connection coming in second ....that fight with the Japanese wielding a samurai blocking Bruce's attempted blows with the nunchuks was phenomenal. But game of death was excellent nunchaka fight

The biggest thing that stands out is the Ji Han Jae (Hapkido master) footage. So much of his good footage was left out that in Game of Death he looked like a bit of a pushover, easily defeated by Bruce Lee. But in the unedited fight he showed masterful spin kicks and smoothness. The techniques he exhibited were the best example in an action movie of the concept of blending with the attack (Aiki) even Steven Seagal at his peak didn't quite film it as well as Ji Han Jae. The other thing was Master Jae had at the time completed a tour of Vietnam teaching the ROK armed forces (something he did for some time) and had likely been challenged and tested in ways Bruce Lee and others had not. I think the martial arts world missed out on a great opportunity to see this man in unrestricted action.

The guy in the black gi is Chieh Yuen. Game of Death would have been more than just a movie if he had lived to finish it. It would have conveyed Bruce's concept of Jeet Kune Do/martial arts in a physical, philosophical and spiritual way. I personally wished he had finished that project instead of Enter the Dragon to be honest. He did not need ETD to get worldwide recognition, that was inevitable anyway. Yes, pz3j, it's true he has a lot to share if he is still alive but he had learned everything he needed in martial Arts, and he was a real innovative martial Artist. If he had not died some 49/50 years ago, he would have created many innovative martial Arts techniques and/or new schools and movies that would take the Hong Kon movie industry to its highest peak and level. But the movie industry is a business like any others and competition is the key, together with some evil business entrepreneurs looking to make money and gain advantages in their movie businesses, they would do anything to get rid of Bruce Lee. I am a martial artist myself, so I don't believe that Bruce died suddenly because of overtraining. He might be weaker but would not have died because he was only about 33 years old. Someone that age with solid martial art background and body could not possibly die so suddenly. It would take at least 10 to 20 years for Bruce to die if overtraining was the cause of his death.

As far as I know there is no actual proof that Lee was too fast for the cameras to catch other than anecdotal evidence and hearsay. However, movie cameras in the ’60s and ‘early 70s were not as good or fast as modern ones, so it wasn’t uncommon for fast action to blur in the film, making this a completely believable assertion.

a guy who cant fight wont sit and make movies about fighting and directs them and also trains big stars. He had to fight in san=francisco to coach and he wont that fight. after that they just let bruce-lee do his thing.
he was revered in hk for a reason.
chuck-norris himself said pound per pound for his weight he was damn good. he was a world champ and wont be ready to take a fall unless he thinks opponent is special--even in movies!
van-dam is the closest you can think of as a fighter come actor( he has records to prove but he is not mme).

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do was considered the "broken rhythm" style that he mentions in this film. Traditional martial arts concentrated on "routine" movements that were repeated over and over again in practice. Bruce recognized these combatant patterns of movement and knew how to exploit them into his own fighting style. This is why he incorporated all forms or styles of martial arts--including Wing chun--with his own form of fighting. Unpredictability. Jeet Kune Do is "The style of no style."

Thanks for showing us this. I saw Game of Death as a teen back in 1980. Then again two days ago and was not impressed at all. I read Bruce Lee’s widow was not happy about the final product of Game of death. Now I know why….. they should have just shown this after the credits as a bonus . It’s way better than the lackluster plot from the movie.

Remember seen this in Bruce's lee legacy collection back in the days revealing some of Bruce's work found after his 2nd studio was targeted.
It's so unfortunate that we never got to see his work completed and 99% of his movies are scrapped together incorrectly and also due to incomplete scenes 💔 when he die they wanted to make money off him quickly and didn't bother to even try finding the other takes? Most footage was test footage he would go around to show other actors and fighters to entice them to come on board with his projects. Just remember everyone was against Bruce just bc he was different to he was moving away from traditions and asian film industry. I was lucky enough to go to Hong Kong o er 32 yrs ago to see his statue there, I hope it still stands there ❤

If lee had finished this film, i have no doubt it would have been his masterpiece,as far ws expressing his philosophy about jkd and the whole martial arts in general among other things. Lee's original story/plot sounded like a really good story. I hate that lee died so young..smh.. when i was young lad, I remember my older brothers saying"why didn't hod just take a piece of shite instead of Bruce lee." I swear Hollywood and the lee family should be involved...they should make this film or "remake" it with all this footage and Lee's story. Just find an actor that looks exactly like Lee or close to him..maybe use deepfake and put out the game of death as lee intended.👍🏻🐉
