I work in aviation and have been trying to understand these concepts forever. I've learned more in the first 10 minutes of your video than in the last three years. Thanks for putting this together.
I have watched several videos on approach plates, including paid programs, working on my IFR training. This is one of the best videos, free or otherwise, that I have seen. You should be selling these!
THAT WAS THE BEST AND PRECISE INSTRUCTION OF APPROACH PLATE AND APPROACHES , WHERE ARE YOUR MILLION SUBSCRIBERS IN UA-cam , YOU TOTALLY DESERVE IT ,THANK YOU
Instrument Approaches - An Introduction - Is the best I've seen so far on UA-cam. The material was well organized, it was logical and easy to follow. Your explanation of the material deserves a A+
One of the best, clearest and most orderly explanation for reading and flying an approach I've heard. Thank you so much, this will help me study and become a better CFII so then I can teach my students to do the same.
You have the ability to present complex, factually dense material in a clear, easy to understand manner. Your students are lucky to have you as their instructor. Thank you for making this! Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona.
Best video, ever! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'm preparing for my practical/oral dispatch certificate. This video cleared up so much of my confusion!
I totally agree. So far I haven't come across any video that points out the difference between non- and precision approaches. Well done :) wish I had found it sooner !
Wow! What a great teacher you are. Why my instructors couldn’t be like that. In a few minutes you clarified 3 things that I never understood quite clearly. Thank you very much. Keep them coming please.
Indeed what k vasnaik said. Soo well to understand now. You took out all the mystery and missing pieces! Thanks so much for making and posting this video!!
Alex, thank you for this video! I have my instrument checkride in 13 days, and you have just covered one of my biggest weaknesses. Your teaching is very clear, and done at the right speed (not too fast).

Excellen...Excellent...Excellent lesson....!!!! Just what I was looking for... I took a online Instrument Ground School and I didn't leavenwith a strong foundation of totally understanding approach plates... (Until Now)... Thank you... Thank you... Thank You...!!! I'm subscribing to your channel
Would be nice if you had a picture of a traditional procedure turn, then "Hold in lieu of Procedure turn" makes more sense. Also, no mention of VDP nuances on NP approach, transitioning from en-route or STAR, and feeder routes. Best explanation of "established" I have seen. Thanks Great video. I am the Siskel and Ebert of aviation LOL Still get a thumbs up!
Others have said it as well...this is probably the best I have seen so far. Great job. Any chance you could also dive into the addtl. numbers on the plate that were not mentioned?
iIf your ever have your own instrument instruction channel, I would pay anything to subscribe. Excellent explanation and illustrations. Thank you. I just started my instrument training now and I am a bit nervous but you made me feel comfortable.
Great job explaining. Thanks. I have a question mark that maybe is not letting me be more precise on my approaches. Your examples from Gilde IAF to RVR, RW 27, non-precision approach shows rapid descent to the minima. Precision approaches straight angle line down. Well, my concerns that made me bust my minima several times is that the profile view shows a line of an angle descent down to MAP. I thought I only had to cross the fix no lower than the altitude minimum described. So, in other words, I have been afraid to go below the angle line on the profile view because there could be an obstacle under it. It seems that I could descend without worries. How do I know there is no obstacles under my descent path from the IAF to MAP, so I could made the rapid descent and be at the minima a little before to i\ensure I would cross it at the proper altitude? I appreciate it.
