    This video holds up the long standing tradition as to why and how Embry Riddle produces some of the best trained and safest pilots out there, I learned how to fly in 1972 at age 16 in a C150 at Burnside-Ott aviation at KOPF!!!! This school no longer exists but Embry Riddle is alive an well and with instructors as yourself at the helm, we are all in very capable and knowledgeable hands! 100 % all the way, keep up the good work, your efforts are paying off!!!!

    Great review, only thing I'd mention for those who may not understand is VOR enroutes do not need to fly direct over each station like a pinball ball. That's why we fly 2 in order to cross the radial of 1 to triangulate your position at which point you might fly a new assigned route. So not as free or direct as a GPS but not hugely restrictive either. I've always enjoyed flying VORs

    • @aviatortrucker6285
      @aviatortrucker6285 Рік тому

      When I started flying 40 years ago, they had an RNAV system, which I can’t recall the name at hand that electronically moved a VOR’s from its physical location to a point in space, thereby creating a route that seem to fly in a straight line VOR to VOR. You had to dial in the radial and the DME from your course to the VOR that was off to the side and it would automatically compute it and treat it like it was in route and in line. Even better was flying point to point from NDB to NDB.

    This is good basic info for new Instrument students, but you don't have to "Activate" an approach after Loading it; all Garmin products will automatically sequence into the approach. Instead of the confusing Load/Activate choices, you should think of them as "Load" (Load later; append to flight plan), or "Activate" (Load immediately). The approach is then ready for use (no later activation required). Max Trescott set me straight on that.

    So will somebody eventually come up with a ADS-B transmitter with a FAA approved stationary code for the runway touch down zone... one on each end of the runway touch down zone.. this could be handy for GA if there was an issue and you needed a runway to set down on. mount it in a case buried in the runway like a runway light. that the insert with the transmitter bolts in for easy servicing.. think about minimum days.. knowing exactly where the touch down zone is..

    At 18:08: " ...activate the missed approach by turning off suspend mode." Why was the pilot in suspend mode after leaving the hold and on the approach? I presume that one would turn off suspend mode when leaving the hold in order to proceed down the localizer course.

    Correct me if I'm wrong (at 13:25)... in the profile view, isn't the FAF indicated by the Maltese Cross, and the lightning bolt specifies glide slope intercept?

    If ATC clears you for the approach with no further verbiage and you are approaching the initial approach fix from generally the same direction of the approach course. To clarify you are not using one of the “T” approach fixes you are using the actual initial approach fix in the center. You are approaching from generally within 5 to 10° of the inbound course, why would it be necessary to do a procedure turn for what seems like an unnecessary course reversal?

      13:30. Lightning bolt is glide slope intercept, not FAF. They happen to be the same on the approach used in this example.
