It's fascinating hearing christians such as Johnathan in a discussion, when a point of his is completely shredded, he just ignores it and just moves on to the next assertion as if he heard nothing...bizarre.
So bizarre I agree but then I remember me when I was a Christian I most likely would have done the same thing because the non believer is always wrong therefore why listen and I must continue my testimony and help them to salvation. SMDH 🤦♀️
If you're following this link from the other version of this video with bad audio... TURN IT DOWN!! This one is nice and loud. I nearly blew my ears off with a pair of headphones.
Create Synergistic Transformations I was reading through the comments as the video was playing. When I came to your comment I was at exactly 22:20! God must have set that up.
14:19 actually we can assert something with a 100% certainty. Things that are currently happening. Such as I'm writing this text. This is 100% true. I can tell it with my senses. Unless you go into spirituality and start the infinite argument about "what is real and what's not".
he is either irreducibly confused or realizes, halfway through his questions , that the question makes no sense. Whereupon the narrative breaks down. I think he may be on the verge of a breakthrough.
Basically the caller's problem is that scientists are being honest by admitting that most things are not 100% certain. Its basically the same problem with the presup argument, and its not rational.
Why wouldn't it have been a better thing for the God of the bible to give Adam & Eve the ten commandments from day one? It would have at least made a little more sense than the trick He pulled with the talking Snake. But it doesn't really matter, it's all BS anyway.
If the god of the bible exists freewill is an illusion. Not sure if anyone thinks about it but the character's Jesus and his disciples had no freewill either.
This Christian/apologist caller becomes more and more dishonest as the conversation goes on. This is especially true in his second call-in with Matt & Tracie. The 2nd exchange between Matt and Jonathan is one you don't want to miss.
Combination of Appeal to Authority and Appeal to Popularity. The caller feels that because a text has been considered authoritative for a long time, everyone should look there for answers.
At about 13:00 -- "...because we didn't create those particles that they're testing, they really can't 100% know, right?, that, um, that they've really discovered something." We, humans, discovered microbes. We didn't create them, but we know that we really discovered something. The arguments for an all-powerful god are always so pathetic.
It's entirely fitting and true to form this caller as a christian believer/theist gets his binding evidential conclusions from tv and movie fictions. Repeatedly, these people demonstrate they can't make distinctions between fact and fiction. Continuing debilitating products of religious indoctrination/mental poisoning. Event some of the best revealers of the faiths, Matt & Tracie have remaining scars, or shadows of their former religious beliefs, never entirely cleans it appears.
GOD is a concept, it was never meant to be worshiped or killed over outside of crisis. It saw its origin in the great period of perilous darkness and danger within the hearts of men longing to survive another day in hell. Today, its rampant, abused and an all destroying force upon human consciousness. Those who realize the truth about it either become atheist or create their own personal theism well outside of the understanding of other human beings.
How does a show like this ever get recorded with such shitty audio? Is the person recording it just letting the meters peg constantly, and they just don't know shit about what they're doing? I just don't get it.
Have to agree with that rant. Some background noise typically comes from the caller's location, but I don't understand why so many other audio issues. AE is one of the most influential shows on the internet, yet it seems like every other week they have "a problem with the phones"...like it's some kind of emerging new technology :-)
It's NON-PROFIT, that's all it takes. There's no real operating budget, and they were, at that point, guests of a public access system, which would have a sketchy budget at best. Doesn't matter how influential you are, without cash or good equipment, the PV will be compromised. Thanks though, @LeggoMyLamb, for the enhanced audio here-- really helped me out.
Theists fail to understand the concept of free will is an illusion. It is a goto argument when you corner them on logic but let me explain why free will is an illusion. This will probably be a TL;DR so a heads up. Even atheists are exempt from the concept of free will. Free will means the way I understand it, the ability to make a choice whether that choice is moral or immoral or indifferent. To explain this better, every single choice you or I ever made, the factors leading to that decision were factors outside of our control. No, I am not talking of whether you masturbate or not as a choice. But even in that scenario, biology is dictated by hormones and pheromones and other shit so, slapping the monkey is just a way to get that out of your system for awhile. From the time you were born, where you went to school, college your career etc. All of those things were governed by factors outside of your direct control. Even when you become or deemed a responsible adult, everything up to that point, decisions made were influenced by factors you had no say in and by the time you are an adult, these past influences actually continue to influence future decisions/choices. Retrospection is the exercise in remembering your past and reflecting on (major) decisions made, some like to play the "what if" game but in reality, you would do it no differently b/c you would not have the current knowledge you have. This of course sounds a hell of like the calvisist's concept of predestination and ironically, that part, they actually got right. An example here, I once had simultaneous offers of employment which were very similar in benefits and salary but one meant moving. I had to make a choice on which offer had the least impact on my family. I could not realistically accept both offers. Does this mean your life is mapped out for you by some ethereal being or something? No. You and I are trapped into the path we are on (assuming you're not into something self destructive). The reason I say trapped, had I been born to different parents in a different country, chances are very likely, "my" past (equivalent me) would have been entirely different. Born in Zambia, my dad had managed to find employment in Australia when I was still a sprog. They (his prospective employer) had furnished him with a paid cruise with all of his shit (shit, inclusive of family) to come to Aus, he just had to get to Cape Town with his shit and it was all taken care of. That was doable as he had access to free passes on the Railway he worked for and his last trip would still have been free as was his first. My mom said no (reasons) so I did not end up growing up a wallaby supporter or someone with a funny accent. Had my dad married someone else, this post would probably not be here and so it goes all the way back to stuff that happened before you were a twinkle in your dad's eye. The illusion of freewill to the most mundane of things is governed by other things that happen without your micromanaging. The choices we make appear to be free but they are not. The mere fact you breathe, blink and other biological things we take for granted, are governed by your cerebral cortex. Yes, now I have made you aware of this, you can cognitively refuse to breathe or blink. Once your body needs O2 or when your eye starts to dry out, you *will* breathe and blink. The last example is one that actually supports evolution. Imagine if we had to cognitively do this? I'll leave you with this thought, most of our choices are reactive not proactive. Even a proactive choice was governed by other factors leading up to that choice. Life's a journey, enjoy the ride... For the theists reading this, Arminianism of Armenius is the dude that conned the term of free will. Ironically, he was a student of Calvin who was the inventor of predestination or predetermination in some circles. The TULIP doctrine is of Calvin and while some may lean towards this, inferring they were "chosen" to believe and be saved, that is all bullshit. Likewise, the folk echoing the concept of free will and a goto for everything when logic makes you look stupid, both Calvin and Arminius were wrong in their respective doctrines. The only way to see this is to put both concepts side by side and evaluate their claims, both go begging the question however; Calvin had obviously stumbled onto something but sought a theistic conclusion rather than a secular one. This aspect does tend to lead to causality which is mind boggling because it infers (subtly) to multiverse scenarios or alternate realities. It is a "philosophical" view in futility, be warned.
Atheism (*by it's very DEFINITION*) is a single position on a single proposition (a "God" exists). Everything else, aka their worldview, varies tremendously because each individual is free to construct their own. That's the beauty of it; we aren't bound to silly religious dogma.
Basically what Jane did was say 'Yea, my religious christian worldview is stupid as fuck and indefensible, but you atheists have a worldview to so ha ha ha we're equally stupid'.....no we're not.
It's fascinating hearing christians such as Johnathan in a discussion, when a point of his is completely shredded, he just ignores it and just moves on to the next assertion as if he heard nothing...bizarre.
Yup...most of the theist callers end up randomly throwing crap against the wall and hoping something sticks.
So bizarre I agree but then I remember me when I was a Christian I most likely would have done the same thing because the non believer is always wrong therefore why listen and I must continue my testimony and help them to salvation.
SMDH 🤦♀️
This one does sound better.
My left hear is pleased :) Thanks for posting man

I know you posted this a year go, but i had to say it :P
do you really think a single person is going to read your comment before starting the video?
Science predicted existence of higson bosom decade/s ago, that was last unfounded particle needed to current models to work.
Thanks, good job with the audio!
sound coming into both ears bliss :) thanks leggo
I love how nonchalantly he's sipping his mug throughout the video

Combination of Appeal to Authority and Appeal to Popularity. The caller feels that because a text has been considered authoritative for a long time, everyone should look there for answers.
Matt's eye roll at about 22:00 is just perfect.
What the hell is he TALKING about?
WTF....hey Jonathan turn down your blaring TV or radio or whatever that is.
Haha, no shit. The random background noise they get on some of these calls is ridiculous.
At about 13:00 -- "...because we didn't create those particles that they're testing, they really can't 100% know, right?, that, um, that they've really discovered something."
We, humans, discovered microbes. We didn't create them, but we know that we really discovered something.

"The Higgs-Boson supposedly particle and whatnot..."
Why do I get the impression this guy isn't exactly scientifically literate?

THE most BORING caller yet...
jonny boy you are not as smart as you think you are

That's just plain false, the god of the Bible absolutely was meant to be worshiped, at least originally. Your rant makes no sense.
