Thanks Rusty. An exercise with no sweating or heavy breathing.😄Have a great week.
You’re welcome Ray! This is definitely a easy-going concept. Thanks for checking in! I hope you have a great week also buddy.👍
IMHO this is an excellent lesson and as a side note it could not come at a more perfect time for me.. it is already opening so many doors in my lead playing........Direction instead of noodles.... Thank You very much my friend.
I’m glad to hear it! I’m always happy to help! Let’s keep working on this stuff together! Thanks for the comment👍
Oh , one more thing here comment wise , I just watched a mini documentary about the band “ Kansas “ and in the video it was mentioned that the guitar melody for “ Dust in the wind “ was inspired by a finger picking exercise that one member was doing & his wife told him that he needed to share that with the rest of the group as she was sure it had the initial makings of something huge song -wise . You just never know Randy ….😉
I love that story! Thanks for sharing it! A lot of famous songs started that way! Thanks a lot, Stephen! Many thanks…Rusty
Great simplistic approach...........you have a great way of explaining how to play what sounds good and why it works.........I'm in awe of your teaching style Rusty it's done so so much for my playing..........a big thank you Paul from Ireland
I really appreciate the kind comment Paul! Thanks a lot for all your feedback. I know we will keep moving forward. Working on this stuff together. It’s always good to hear from you Paul. Greetings from Chicago. Have a great week 🤛
I have played the guitar for most of my life casually. In a band as a teenager but life happened and left it alone for a long time. Now that i'm retired, and have a beautiful Strat, Les Paul, and a Hot
Rod Deville, i wanted to get back into playing and enjoying it. I was stuck due to lack of fretboard knowledge. I watched a lot of videos showing how to play different songs, but the songs were all i knew. Your approach showing how chords and shapes work together up and down the neck have unlocked a whole new world for me. I have advanced more in 2 weeks with you than years of learning songs. Thank you so much for such a simple method to get better, and know more about theory and fretboard management. My fingers are sore now since you have inspired me to pick up my guitars everyday for a few hours.
Hey Dale, that’s awesome! It sounds like you’re having fun with your guitars and equipment. I’m glad you’re getting something from my lesson videos! I appreciate the comment! I hope you have a rockin rest of your week.✌️
Wow, Rusty, you're showing everyone who wants to learn how to be very melodic! Excellent lesson! Thanks buddy!
Right on GM!!! This is definitely starting point to start sounding melodic! Simple but effective! I appreciate all your support, my friend! Let’s talk soon👍
Excellent Rusty, when you think you can come up with some great sounding solo's with just 3 notes ,its a great starting reference point .have a great week 👍😎🎸
Yes, you’re right. Barry! This is just a starting point, but it’s some really good framework to create a melodic solo! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great week also.👍
Good morning

Hey, buddy!! Our other good friend and great YT instructor Mark Zabel gave you high marks and shoutout in the lesson he posted just today!! Right around the 7:18 mark!! Both are great lessons for us all to study this lesson if we're not Chiefs of 49er fans!! Jim C.
That’s awesome! I love Mark Z! We want to do a collaboration in the near future here! Thanks so much for your support, Jim! Have a great rest of your weekend👍

Wow, this is a great lesson! Great pattern. It sounds a little melodic. I love how you can use this pattern anywhere on the neck.
Hey Kevin, good to hear from you and I hope all is well! Thanks for checking out the lesson. Later buddy.✌️
Learning patterns and then understanding the intervals is the way to go! Another great lesson! Thank you Rusty 👍🏻😎☀️
You’re right William! And seeing the shape of the pattern on the fretboard. Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos! Have a great week.👍
Unintentionally I played the root, the fifth, then back to the root then second and third. It sounds really good. Thanks for the lesson Rusty. Cheers from Indonesia.
Yes, I use that Move myself! It sounds good to alternate the strings. I appreciate the comment and cheers from Chicago. Thanks.👍
Thank you again Rusty!!! You showed this a month or two ago but thank you for the reminder a little different this time. I don't think you mentioned the minor which is awesome. I definitely been using this lately and then trying to add to it. I followed a lot of teachers on here and I'd say you're the top five. Thank you sir. For your time!!!
Rusty did mention the minor.
Oh OK 👌
You’re right Marc, with a little different twist. It’s so good to know these little patterns and shapes around the fretboard. It can really help us connect the chords and scales together. I did briefly mention the minor chord. But it was mostly about the major shape. I’m glad to hear that I’m one of your go to teachers! Means a lot! Talk to you soon, brother.👍
👍
🤛
Great lesson ! Thanks Rusty 😊
Thank you, Alan! And you’re very welcome! Thanks for checking out the lesson👍

More gold, as usual Rusty!
Thank you for encouraging daily habits! They really do help!
All you have to do is practice something every day, it'll make you a better player, and will inspire you when you try to improvise.
You'll start noticing the improvement fairly quickly.
Hey Jeff, well said! Thanks for checking out the video! Talk to you soon buddy ✌️

GOLD!!!
There’s GOLD in them hills!!! I appreciate the comment. Thanks so much, Jim.🤛
Great tutorial Rusty!!!
Thanks Bert! Always good to see you here 👍
Dude… you just gave me that missing piece that unlocked the final piece of the fretboard. I have been learning minor and major modes etc for a year, learning to improvise with major and minor etc. i knew the notes of the e strings and the A and a lot of the B, I knew the different triad shapes, the caged shapes anyways. I was able to still improv and go and go forever- but for some reason I was always overthinking everything’s relationships to each other. I would see bits of the chords like the caged shapes, but it was still a piece here and there. But for some reason just now for whatever reason focusing in on one note I started to see all the shapes in 3d. Like up and down the strings vertically and horizontally now I know where the scale degrees of all the root notes are forward and backward and up and down. Holy shit!! Fretboard fluency? It’s finally here?! Now I can see all of the possible steps from whatever note I’m on. Holy fn sht!!! Now wow now I know like what B’s minor thirds major fifth is etc. wtf. My life is worth living! Now all these shapes lock together and the golden tetris shapes glow and stand out in every direction.
Watch out world. Here comes the next guitar hero. The next Jerry meets Keef is coming
I’m glad to hear that! It’s always exciting to make those connections on the fretboard. Thanks a lot for checking out the lesson! Keep rockin my friend.👍
very useful, thanks
I’m happy that the lesson video was useful! Thanks for watching and have a great week👍

extremely great 🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👌👏👏
I’m glad you liked the lesson! Thanks👍
Awesome again. thanks Rusty "Ruts" cool name right?
I’m glad you liked the lesson Alex! We always need those RUT notes!😂 thanks for watching Bro😎
Also, I have never found out how to do the bluessy-rocky bends on the last 3 strings, what works together. Seems basic for many, but a simple lesson on this would help a lot.
Yes Jeff! Bending lesson coming up soon! Thanks mate 👍
@@rustysguitar1would be great, kind of basic for many, but for +40-50 home players like me who did not advance during their + 20-30, due to other ocupations, will apreciate a lesson in that area. We see people do stuff with their fingers, but we can't figure out what the combinations of notes are that make it sound good
Reminds of the theme from Gran Torino
Nice! That’s a good one! Thanks for checking out the video✌️
Thank you.
Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks Rusty this in opened my mind to new idea’s! Did you see my earlier request for a lesson on some fingering tricks and techniques to better facilitate playing lead lines and solo’s? To clarify, some players play everything using the index and ring finger - others use other combinations to facilitate their lead playing - I don’t see many lessons explaining these choices or the advantages/disadvantages of each… I’m sure there are other fingerings used to best facilitate playing particular runs and/or licks. Would really appreciate some lessons addressing this subject.
Hey Kevin, you’re right I don’t talk about that much in my lessons. Mostly players choose what fingers they use because it’s what’s comfortable for them. And the other factor is where you are headed to next on the fretboard. Honestly you don’t want to be thinking about what fingers to use, you want to use the fingering that’s comfortable. Thank you for the feedback Kevin! Will definitely talk about this in my upcoming lessons. Other players might be asking this question to themselves also! Talk to you soon buddy.👍
@@rustysguitar1 Just your comment on considering where you’re heading next with your fingering is something I had not consciously thought about or perhaps just not thought about enough - thanks for the great tip!
@@kevinking2468 cool! Thanks so much, Kevin! And I will talk about it in my upcoming videos. I think other players are asking that same question! Talk to you soon.👍
Woww sir very easy to learn....it's a great excercise...for every guitarist....
But sir I can't improvise with backing track...plz sir tell me some trick..how to improvise properly ....🙏🙏
You just need to use exercises like this and follow the chord changes. Practice this daily and the notes will start to flow together. Keep working at it! Thanks for checking out the video.👍
I want to break free
Oh! That’s a good one! Thanks for watching👍
Rusty thanks for your insights. A bit too basic for me and I'm wondering if you could show us some speed lead break tricks here-and-there? Like yourself I mix a lot of slow and medium speed stuff with just SOME speed stuff. But that's because I often can't get my head around the high speed tricks, not because I want to be stuck in the slower lanes. Other teachers show us "shreds" but they're not suitable for the way I play. Sorry no bucks in it because I'm in another country (Australia). We do like your guitars though.
Thanks for the feedback! I definitely will do some more advanced and faster lick lessons, coming up soon! Thanks for watching the lesson. Catch you later.👍
I think I noticed a Bible on the table behind you if that be so...just wanted to commend you for being not being afraid to show your faith !
I’m glad you noticed the Bible, John! I do read it in my studio every morning! And just leave it on the table. I do get quite a few comments about it. Mostly positive, a few negative. God has blessed me all my life and I won’t hide my faith. I really appreciate the comment, John. Blessings 🙏
I do appreciate that...also the very professional and quality video drops are watched and absorbed ! Like you I'm a older player and I'm sure if we was to ever meet up music would be made..... Thanks for your reply and Blessings as well.
@@johncraven1168 Right on my friend! I do appreciate the comments! Thanks, John✌️
Rusty as a newbie, do you have tabulature available for this exercise?
Hey Maurice, sorry, no tabs. But if you watch sections of the video, then pause it you will get this exercise down. Seeing and hearing these phrases helps make it stick in our brains so much better. Thanks for the comment.👍
SO sorry I called you “ Randy “ in my recent texts Rusty 🥴. I was trying to maneuver my way home on flooded roads in Stop & go traffic here in San Diego and was paying more attention to roads & traffic than what my fingers were typing in on my phone 😆. Sorry ‘bout that !!! BTW I made it home in one piece in case anyone was worried ….😉
No problem, Stephen! I’m glad you made it home in one piece! Crazy weather lately! Thanks for all your support my friend✌️
Thanks Rusty!
Fun Fact: A band called Greta Van Fleet makes a whole song called "Highway Tune" using this technique and made about a zillion dollars doing it!
If you haven't heard them, treat yourself. They've got a real Zeppelin thing happening, and they're only like 20.
I have heard of them! Definitely a huge, Zepplin vibe! Thanks for checking out the video Crash. Catch you later bro. 😎
Sing this along with this exercise:
How dry I am
How wet I'll be
if I don't find that bathroom key
I found the key
and opened the door
it's to late now
I've pissed the floor
Why is your subscriber acting so stingy!
I’m not sure what you mean with that statement. But thanks for watching the video. Let me know buddy. Thanks 👍
To what end? Seems senseless
It’s just another way to improvise over the chord changes
A big like 👍beautiful song ❤❤ thank you for sharing. Have a great day.
I hope you liked the lesson
