Jason was the bassist and wrote this song for his friends who passed away. Later Jason died and Pennywise re-recorded it changing the names to Jason and they always end their set with this song.
''Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you'' is the different lyrics you hear on this song (The lyrics are dedicated to Jason Thirsk’s friends Tim Colvin, Carlos Canton and Tom Nichols who had passed away (The former two, due to a car accident, the latter whom drowned)
The lyrics are technically correct depending on the version of the song. This is the original (just remastered sound) version with the original lyrics. V2 is dedicated to their former bass player Jason Thrisk who unfortunately committed suicide and passed far too soon. Live, this is a great song and they typically reserve it as their last song of the night. To be honest (just personal opinion, so don't kill me!!) I love the lyrics, but I'm really burnt out on this song as a whole. It's just personal opinion....I've heard it so many times over the last 30+ years that I hope I never hear it again. Doesn't change the fact that it's a great song though!
Like other said, the lyrics you read were from Bro Hymn Tribute which was referencing to their former bassist. This version i from their self titled album which contains some really good songs like 'Homeless' and 'Living for Today' if you want to hear more from this album :D
Pennywise was one of my first shows, they played with the Skatenigs at a small club in San Antonio TX. I was just a little skate punk back then, and my has the world changed in the last 20+ years.
With the exception of recording Unknown Road, which happened when Jason quit. Randy Bradbury stepped in to record most of it. Jason re joined, after he died, Randy came back.
My favourite band. Would love to heard you do a full album reaction to their album Full Circle. It's the first they wrote after the death of Jason and tackles mental health and being the best you that you can be. The re-recorded version of Bro Hymn is also the last track on that album
There’s no better atmosphere than a PW show period go see for yourself. I’ve seen pretty much every punk band you guys have covered multiple times like skinhead o Conner said nothing compares.

JASON MATTHEW THIRSK, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!

Awesome songs. Keep bringing them and keep them alive to a new audience
They play this to end EVERY live performance, and pull people from the audience up on the stage, grab people from other bands, etc. It's a lot of fun.

Definitely understandable! :) - Joel
This is the 1991 version about friends who died in a car accident. The 1997 version is about their former bassist Jason Matthew Thirsk.

Tribute (second version) was better IMO... Off Full Circle
You should do that one too right now and tell us what you think.

Jason Matthew Thirsk the bass player of Pennywise from 1988 through his death in 1996

Your reading the lyrics from the 2nd version on perfect circle but listening to the first version before Jason died.
seeing this live in a packed venue with the whole crowd joining in on the chorus was an amazing experience, tbh
see them live on Wacken Open Air this Year and Bro Hymn was a experience by itself, was just amazing
The Special C version is so good too

The re-recorded version of Bro Hymn is also the last track on that album
