It's my Birthday today... I'm 37 :"(
THROW ME A LIKE IF YOU WANT TO WISH ME A H-B!
Hello happy Bday
socket dirty - questions whether it had ever actually been in contact with pins at all
Ya' still got a few good years left until it's all downhill.
Buy yourself a little air compressor for your birthday, you will save money
I was 37 once..
"I've never seen a socket so dirty!"
School Computer: "Allow me to introduce myself."
garage and attic and basement pcs aint no better gota love buying yard sale and auction pcs I've seen so many dirty ones that were way beyond this but yeah school pcs can get extremely bad rofl
Plz tell me how did he record on that pc bootup
@@Nav1i probably a 2nd pc and a capture card
@@Babbages yeah me too, I sometimes get old pcs but I put them to better use as linux machines, or simple servers for email and stuff
Good ol' AMD socket. CPUs getting ripped out with the heatsink for years lol. I did this with a 3950X and almost had a heart attack
I find putting a little rotational pressure on the cooler helps keep from ripping the processor out with the cooler.
Same with my 2700x and 3700x.
@@davidhodge0201 Doesn't matter what CPU it is. It still hurts every time lol
@@SOU6900 This is what I do as well. I tend to go into autopilot sometimes and forget to twist and pull.
I did it to my r5 2600, its drop off to the ground after me trying to take it of the heatsink, then i RMA it, and AMD accepted.
I can smell the cigarette smoke through my computer screen.
Now I know why Timmy Joe is always so energetic -- the credit card and the razor blade gave it away.
"Not even a 6 Core" Christ it only felt like yesterday when 4 cores were seen as the norm for gaming...
The first time I was able to go all out and buy nothing but the best, I had a newly released Pentium II MMX at a whopping...450 MHz, I want to say. Anything over 1 GHz almost still sounds like overkill to me.
:(
@@plaguis1391 hhhwhat...
I have a 4 core i5 xd
Phenom chips had way worse ipc than contemporary intel chips, so you needed a ton of cores to get decent performance with them
@@notabagel Which was fair, because Phenom II CPUs were much cheaper. It got bad after FX/Bulldozer.
Dude! I never thought about switching the molex the other way! Awesome video.
But how though it has the shape and can only go one way or do you have to force it?
7:30 Just get yourself an air compressor, it is what we use in the shop and it works much better.
Yeah, no point to buy a couple of those things
+1 me too. though another investment for less intricate work: leaf blower
@sᴀᴠɪᴏᴜʀ ᴍᴀᴄʜɪɴᴇ not necessarily. if Timmy is a tech, he'll be cleaning PCs for clients on the regular. 6 cans @ $4/can = $36 CAD. for 135 USD get a cheapo 24L compressor that'll do the job
They tend to be noisy. If he's in a building sharing space, that may be an issue.
@@PacketWrangler You can get ones made for indoor use that are less noisy than a vacuum
This reminds me of a customer I had a few years ago that JB Welded his CPU on to his CPU cooler.
haha wow!
@@TimmyJoePCTech Yes sir!! He thought that the thermals would be better with the CPU permantly fused to the cooler block.
@@jameysummers1577 That's a smart move at first thought but a idiotic one if you think more about how the unevenes of CPU and cooler affect thermals
@@jameysummers1577 And???

Sounds like a message for a happy marriage
Happy Birthday Timmy Joe! Thank you for all the videos you have been posting! Looking forward to your next one already!
That laugh when the CPU comes out with the cooler reminds me of Salem from the old tv show Sabrina the teenage witch. Where do I get one of those stands that you're using?
that's how you know that it's time for a new tim application
Happy Birthday Timmy! Also please do more videos like this, I'm really digging these trouble shooting/repair videos
I've seen some dust buildup in my day but that's the first time I've ever seen a heatsink with a full beard.
Nice work, Timmy Joe!
And Happy Birthday!!!!!!
Happy Birthday !!!! Wish you all good things in this new year, both for you and your family! Stay healthy, stay safe, stay fresh!!! Hope to see more videos from you good luck!!
Happy birthday, Timmy Joe! Thanks for the video. There's a metric doodoo ton of PC cleaning videos, but I enjoyed this one as much as any. Keep it up man!
Your molex fan trick just blew my mind. I have a whole box of old fans that are noisy, ill try this to quiet them down next time instead of buying new ones. Thanks brotendo!
Congrats on making it another year! I've learned to twist the cooler back and forth not pulling or pushing up to break that seal that makes it pull processors out of the socket.. After the second one and having to spend a day straightening pins..
The CPU coming out and bending the pins was a feature on those Phenom processors. Almost every one I have ever worked on came out the same way. I have become quite the expert in pin straightening over the years.
bmh67wa happend with my phenom ii x6 a few month back...but i guess i was super lucky all the pins were fine....
This is why you gently twist the heat sink side to side to loosen it before you pull it up.
Nice repair. I did a similar one years ago - a soft toothbrush and some 90% IPA got me home on the socket. For bending pins back, a tip that one of my mentors taught me was to use a mechanical pencil with no lead in it - the pin fits perfectly inside of the tip and gives you good control. I've only had to do it twice, but it worked like a champ both times. Cheers!
I really like how casual and genuine these vids feel
The last time I dealt with a Molex fan connector was probably about a decade ago, but that tip with plugging the connector in the wrong way round was still amazing :D
Happy Belated Birthday Timmy :D keep up the good work, and have fun while you're at it :D
Favourite video in recent memory! Keep up the good work bud!
Love troubleshooting videos. Happy birthday. 37 isn't bad.
Happy birthday!
Love the phenom series, have a retired phenom ii x6 1045t that was a major work horse for ten years
Happy Birthday Timmy!
MAN that Molex trick is genius!
Never thought of that, thanks :)
Oh and Happy Birthday man keep the content comin!!!
Happy Birthday man!
Happy b-day buddy! Love the vid! Yep gotta keep em clean..had a friend bring her sons rig by to put a 1.5tb in it for games n ran into problems and I just cleaned the dust out n cleaned it up while she got back to me about installing a 1tb :)
And they laughed when "The Verge" was thinking tweezers. lol Happy Birthday Timmy!
Yeah but verge called 2 zip ties tweezers...
Happy Birthday Timmy Joe
Happy Birthday Timmy sir!!!
Great vid Timmy, event though its old tech, all the techniques apply to all tech. Keep up the good work!
Electric duster. Best gift I've ever received. Had I known how useful it was going to be, I would have shelled the $100+ for it years ago. Well worth the money and you'll definitely recoup your costs not having to buy arm fulls of compressed air and the. Running out at the worst possible times.
Definitely worth the watch for the molex connector tip alone, for those of us that fix friends and families poorly maintained and aging computers. Thanks Timmy Joe for talking about computers on the interwebs!
Tortex nylon guitar picks work great for straightening bent pins. You can get any size and thickness you want for different cpus. They don't scratch circuit boards or the pins and are super cheap. Picks also work great for opening cases for laptops, tablets, and some cell phones.
Couple of tips for you, NEVER spray a can of air on powered equipment and Twist the cooler off instead of just yanking it out, those bent pins were your fault.
You must go through those air cans like crazy. I'd recommend you just pick up a cheap air compressor and get a mechanic style blow gun. It will save you money in the long run.
The mechanic style one can cause damage by blowing off small components like surface mount caps and resistors.
@@Crunchifyable2 just gotta keep your distance
@@Crunchifyable2 limit the pressure
@@Crunchifyable2 The triggers on them are pressure sensitive meaning you can adjust the amount of air pressure released. Just be careful and it will be fine.
Using a compressor will introduce moisture and potentially static into the machine. Do not do this.
really appreciate the troubleshooting video like this
Just found your channel loving it so far, some isopropal alcohol would of been great to clean the socket and I know buying those cans of air gets expensive an air compressor with an inline drier and filter would replace the need :)
I have a few of those CPUs and Boards. For those not getting a CPU temp reading I noticed that happens if you have core unlock enabled in the bios. If you turn off the core unlock you should get your CPU temp readings back.
nice content :) ... always funny to discover what's the problems in this old dusty computers
That *és* logo brings back 90s memory. Half of my school wore that

Oh and happy birthday Timmy.
well with all that dirt in there, no wonder the computer got Phenom-enally hot... (micdrop, i'll see myself out before the veggies and beerbottles hits the stage)
Also,, Happy Birthday Timmy Joe.. Thanks for so many good videos. May your day be joyful and amazing.
Happy Birthday buddy.
I clean my pc every 2 weeks.
You should of gave that motherboard a alcohol bath, and tooth brush to get the gunk from that socket. Probably would of fix that sensor issue not being able to make contact with a pin from CPU.
@sub1ime81 😆 I have the same thing, It’s supposed to be an electrical brush and the handle is wood. Works great when I get used parts clean them up work and look like new.
Happy birthday man
POP! "like a glove" dear lord haha xD that's how you do em AMD pins in!
When mine made that pop on my first build i was like fuckkkkkk.... but hey it runs fine
Happy Bday Timmy Joe!! btw that's not air it's refrigerant in the can
Happy Birthday 🎂!!
This was so satisfying to watch.
First time I had a PGA come out like that, I about died. Glad it worked out. Also, happy birthday!!
Great,you bean hearing us,keep on!!!!
This PC needs the TECH YES LOVI'N....
AYOOO
Happy Birthday Timmy Joe! Canadian Tire has mini compressors on sale for $100
Happy birthday buddy
Love ya videos Timmy Joe! Keep em' coming :)
I have that same antec case with a old q6600 system I use for a media server in my cupboard under the stairs lol amazing what a clean up and repaste can do
i dont understand how it is still possible with all those tech channels that people dont clean their case 1 or 2 times per year??
I forgot the most important....HAPPY BIRTHDAY Timmy Joe!!!!
Oh man, an Antec three hundred case. I know with my Antec three hundred the top fan has a speed switch, but I can't remember is if the switch was permanently attached to the fan cable, or if it was an extension that had the switch.
Cool video, I corrected a socket pin on an old used asus sabretooth board, fixed my ram issue, used a magnifying glass and an box cutter. 🤗
Great video man!
YES Timmy! This is what we love! MORE MORE MORE MORE!!
Happy birthday Computer Master
It's your birthday and I found out there's a new star wars open world game coming out . Must be a good day
I did that with my 2700x not long ago. Managed to fix the pins. It's rough but technically it's a good sign that your thermal paste is good.
Happy birthday mate! I stayed in Toronto for a few months visiting a friend and family, love your country and beers, wish we had Mad Tom's IPA by Muskoka Brewery here in the UK.... p.s "got any batch" is an usual phrase I picked up there haha.... not tobacco.... not baccy... but "batch"? Strange but nice people haha.
Happy bday killer
Love these troubleshoot/fix stuff videos
New thermal paste can make a world of difference for sure! Good tip on the molex fans, though I hope to god to never have to use it!
I'm surprised you don't have a datavac man! Also, happy birthday!
"don't put that on my table!" 😂
Holy hell, an Antec 300. I had mine since 2008. I just got rid of it last month. 12 years, and 5 different builds went into that thing. Still had the original 120 and 140 exhaust. It was a chunky boy, but it did everything I needed it to do. Was definitely a great value case for what it was at $69.99 USD. I ended up getting rid of it because it just had almost no cable management to work with. Had plenty of cooling though.
On old am3 processors there is no sensor on the cpu. The max temp is listed as 62c but they mention this is case temp.
"like a glove" Proceeds to snap it into the socket lol.
Anytime i needed to fix bent pins on a cpu i just used the cover for the pci slot in the back of the case. The thickness is almost perfect and the are rigid as well. Also there are usually some left in every case.
you can also run at 7volts if you use +12 volt then ground black wire on -5volt... there are actually fan selectors that have 4 speeds that just either ground it on 5volt or 3.3volt to get 8.7 volts
happy bday t.j!! dude that molex plug trick is something i wish i known about two weeks ago. i got a d.i.y. water cooling kit and the pump is LOUD AS FUCK. 12 volt molex. i am going to try this trick with my pump for now until my silent ones come in and hopefully it works.
Happy B-day. I would recommend brake cleaner for future cleaning. Just let it dry after and hit everything with WD-40. Saves me a lot of work and dust. Have a lovely day!
Happy Birthday ya old bastard! 😉
Years ago I dropped a blob of thermal paste into an LGA775 socket. CRC makes QD Electronic Contact Cleaner, and even with dousing the socket with that stuff, it dried super fast and made the socket sparkling clean. No issues on that motherboard for years after that. Just a thought.
love your content bro, keep going
Happy birthday. You should use QD (quick dry) electronics cleaner for the socket.
happy birthday timmy joe
Happy Bday Timmy, have a sub.
Hey just a tip that I've learned from my own experience. Buy a shopvac that you can dedicate to cleaning out computers. It'll blow clean air, you only need to buy it once, and it doesn't get cold or have the risk of dripping condensation.
Dont need a shopvac, a datavac electric duster doesn't cost much!
happy birthday brah 😄👍
hey that's the same case I have. Never seen any video of a pc being built in that case.
I find that a paintbrush can get off of loosen dust that's a bit more caked on.
Why don´t you use one of thos one way scalpels to bend the pins back? More control
Timmy please..what is that test bench where you are finding out whether the 960 works? And can you tell me where can I get it?
loved the vid, seeing that looked like my sons pc, though he smokes around his, so it's even grosser to clean, I think I've had to replace his fans 3 times now as he's killed them
I can recommend a Datavac for cleaning computers if you do it alot :D
Also HB dude!
I'd also clean the motherboard heatsinks and put new paste on them. The ones on my 11 year old Gigabyte board (using a Phenom II 965 Black Edition) were loose and when I took one off Gigabyte just used a tiny dab of heatsink compound on them.
can of air in my area in the US is 6-8$ a can at dollar general. You can get cheaper 3 - 4 packs for like 12-15 some times at Walmart or the like.
Great tip about the molex fans!
HB Timmy!! Keep up the great work!!
Heh, I know that case, lol. I used it for my mother's desktop in 2010. That PC is still truckin' today, I've updated it here and there, but its still most of its original components I put into it. I've replaced the GPU, as the previous one died, and when I added in an SSD, I cleaned it and re-applied the thermal paste, since it was overdue for that. Its an older Phenom 2 Quad Core in her PC, X955 Black Edition, still trucking today, even with Windows 10.
