Okay, so TNT did awesome with the Ambient insight. But OD did awesome with his sudden, "wait... why would it take it so long for him to match something with eagle?"

In german you go nuts with compound-words and quite often do 3-4 word clues.

Yeah, Narnia was ripe with potential. The mythological creatures in the series are pulled from greek mythology; centaurs, satyrs, griffins, etc. That clue was gold.

I probably wouldnt have guessed eagle and row at the end because when you think of those 2 words the first thing that comes into my mind is the big bird formations / migrations. So formation would tie it together but some of the other ones were quite hard.

Naming 300 for "pass" and "point" when "screen" was still on the table was a gameosing move. She could have said "piercing" or something.

A great hint for "point" and "pass" would have been the name of the game "Codenames". You get points and you pass in it.
This was great! My only fear is that, for fear of never being able to top that incredible third game, they won't do more Codenames streams. I'd love to see more MCDM Codenames games on UA-cam!
Anna turning around after every turn to yell at OD is so funny.
Have they ever explained "Vinyamar?" They reference it nearly every time they play this game, but I've never heard the full story. As a Silmarillion fan, I'm curious to see if I would have understood it.
Schmuck was trying to link "Beach" with some other middle-earth word and so he looked up "Middle Earth Beach" and got a word he didn't know; Vinyamar. He had never heard it, but he knew I was a LotR nerd and hoped I would get it. We bombed, we had no idea what he was babbling about. The closest I got was "It sounds Icelandic."
So that created the rule; If YOU don't know what the word means, do not give it as a clue!!

linking 'eagle' and 'row'? I thought 'ducks' might work (ie. 'all your ducks in a row' and the similarity in species) and it didn't;t really line up with any of the other options left.

Raymond of Toulouse late in the game Matt was trying to think of a good link for eagle and row. I thought ‘ducks’ might be a good link because of the saying ‘all your ducks in a row’ and because a duck is relatively similar to an eagle (at least compared to the other remaining options).

He could have given the clue Crow. It includes the word Row, and it would make them think of birds.
You can't do rhyming clues. The clues basically have to relate to the meanings of the words, not how they sound or are spelt.

They tapped on pass then it cut to the next turn.
i loved tom's quote at the moment of defeat. i've experienced something so wild that i said it and fully meant it. story time. i had this wonderful idea that if spiders could signal that they come in peace, only to eat bugs and not bite you, it would be nice. i reflected, how could they signal when they are so small. the first thing to come to mind was if they did a spin. then i thought, 1 spin is too vague, they do 2 full spins and you know they are peaceful. as i'm getting up to go to the bathroom after having this thought, two spiders are rappelling down the wall side by side. i smile and wait for half a second as i reflect on my thought. as i'm doing this, both spiders simultaneously do a double twirl in mid-air. i shook my head in disbelief and said what tom schmuck said. "i can't fucking believe it!"

Instead of "300" Anna should have said "touchdown", I guarantee Tom and Lars would have instantly gotten both words.

Does one team always have to get more names than the other team like in the last game when blue had 9 on the board to red's 8?
Whoever goes first, has the first chance to win. So that team always has one more clue they need to get.

I know this video is a bit old, but within the rules of codenames, could Matt have used the clue "Spare, 2" in the very last game, with the thought that they'd say "Spare row", realize it's "Sparrow", and then get "Eagle" too?
The clue has to be about the meaning of the word, so that would be against the rules.

For that tricky 5 in the first match, I would have gone with "uncloven - 5"
Deer are cloven-hoofed, so that would remove Buck from consideration.
Turkeys, Dragons, Whales - easy guesses.
Uncloven relates to feet, so socks could also be guessed.
And George Washington was a human, so also uncloven.

My friend group also leaves the timer in the box. You get cooler, bigger clues if you have unlimited time.
We usually keep it on the table so that the waiting team can flip it if it gets out of hand.
I've literally got no clue what's going on. Watched it a bit, rewatched, still no idea. You guys usually explain the games pretty well. Maybe if you play it next time you can do that.
The captain gives a one-word clue and the number of words on the board it refers to, trying to steer their teammates to the correct words.
One team’s trying to reveal all the red words, the other the blue words.
'Earn an honest buck' is a lot more well known than 'fair and honest'.

so because im new to this game and there wasnt even a clip of a quick run down of the game none of this makes any sense and what enjoyment i could have gotten is overruled by confusion and unanswered thoughts about what the games about, thanks mr. editor
The premise is both teams have respective captains that know where all targets on the board are. They're only allowed to give one word clues and a number to their team that corresponds with words on the board. The goal is for the other two players in that team to eliminate all their target words on the board without choosing the assassin, which loses that team the game, or the other team's targets.
The captains aren't supposed to talk except to give the clue and number while the two other team members (and the non-captains of the other team) can discuss freely amongst each other. The teams often try to psyche each other out.
It's _extraordinarily_ easy to figure out by simply observing the game. The only actual level of complexity is the captains trying to chose clues their team won't misinterpret and the other members trying to link the clues with the words on the board.
I completely agree. I get they are doing a deduction game. But I have no freaking chance of understanding the intricacies. I mean what is that board in the bottom? Why did the blue team put down a card on reds 2nd turn? I mean the rules are a mystery to me...
Stefan Eichen the board on the bottom is a card that only both the captains see, indicating the words on the board that are targets for their respective teams. They've decided to show it to us, the audience, so we can probably easily make the connections between what the targets the captains are going for with their clues. They also hid that board in the last game so that we could essentially play along side them, guessing the words the captains want them to target.
The reason the red captain put down a blue card is because the red team members chose a blue target, also ending red's turn. The black card is an "assassin" and will automatically lose the game for the team that chose it. The white cards are neutral, so neither teams gives an advantage to the other if those are chosen but it still ends the team who chose its turn. (On a statistics level it actually does have some beneficiary affect because it eliminates a possible target option but I'm sure as hell not explaining that in a UA-cam comment.)
@@SalexeSAE They started the video saying they're not going to explain it, but by the point this video was uploaded, more thna one "codenames how to" videos already existed on UA-cam, so if you really need an explanation you could have gotten it.
Play this again, but please don't reveal the board until after the game is finished! I enjoyed the last game much better than the others.
They reveal the boards so twitch chat can play along live, and then they do a blind game for the third game, so there's a balance of knowing and not knowing.
@@j0nasbs Revealing the boards spoils the gamestate to the viewer, which means they *cannot* play along.
@@CaptainDCap We can. We see what they are trying to link and we come up we clues in chat, and when clues are given we can see what they are going for. Is a different kind of suspense, because we have more information.
